A North Side All-Day Favorite Shutters After Nine Years | Eater Chicago

"A long-running gyros spot at 3129 N. Central Avenue in Cragin is scheduled to reopen on January 3 after closing in February because of a fire at a neighboring business; the shop has operated for 46 years and was previously highlighted on a map of Chicago's best gyros." - Daniel Gerzina

I had an incredible dining experience at Central Gyros! The Chicken Bekri Meze was absolutely delicious—flavorful, tender, and perfectly complemented by the melted cheese. The Bean Soup was amazing—rich, hearty, and comforting. And the Greek Salad was nothing short of phenomenal—fresh, crisp, and bursting with flavor. The food quality, portion sizes, and authentic Greek flavors make this place a must-visit. Highly recommend for anyone craving great Greek cuisine!

Been coming to Central Gyros since I was little and I’m 36. Food has not changed. That’s a hard thing to find. Ediet is always our waitress and she knows our order by heart. She gives me extra pita to go w my left over gyros. Shes amazing. Food is always good. The tzatziki sauce is homemade and the best I’ve had.

Google
We have been going here as a family for over 30 years. This really is the best gyros in all of Chicago, even better than what you’ll find in Greek town. Everything is always fresh and the customer service is always friendly. The prices are really getting up there. I know there is inflation but at $25-$30 per person you can go to a steak house. Maybe they should offer some lunch specials. I still love this place and will continue to come.

Google
Yesterday was my first time ordering from this restaurant and I LOVE IT. the chicken dinner, the gyros and the salad was delicious. I love everything i ate. Definitely my to go place from now on. Highly recommend

Google
I don’t know what happened, if it’s under new ownership, or what…but the gyro sandwiches & Greek fries are half the size of what they used to be. Disappointed, especially with how much it costs!

Google
Very attentive staff, very goood food very very good, from out of town and this was a place that popped up on redit and other pages, the flaming cheese is super cool but the gyros where fantastic

Google
Excellent Greek and Chicago specialties. We started with Saganaki (flaming Greek cheese), they used to flamblé at table side, now they flamblé near the table and when it goes put they serve it. We also had calamari (kalamari). I strayed from the Greek traditional dishes and tried the fried smelts; if you grew up in the midwest, you might have tried smelts, and Central Gyros served them exactly as I remember my mother did. We also got Pastitsio, a Greek lasagna type dish. All entrées are served with soup, and we all chose the egg lemon soup. Solid choice. Overall Central Gyros has been doing Greek food for decades and provide great food at reasonable price.

nope

Google
i got take out and it was the chicken gyro. it started dry (the first bites) but then with the sauce it was a great combination. however the chocolate is just really really bad. it tastes very artificial to me

Yelp
The best Gyros in the city. I also like the soup and spinach pies. Dinka's are good for desert. It's a full size Greek decor family style resturant. Service is fine and friendly. There is street parking and a parking Garage Accross the street. Pay the box. It might be possible to find street parking blocks away. It is located on Central Ave near Belmont Ave

Yelp
Been going here for 40 years and still amazing! We used to live near by and came to central gyros all the time. Far away now, but worth the trip! I had a beer, the delicious hot and tasty lemon soup and the amazing tender, flavorful gyros. If I was with a group I would have had the Saganaki for sure. Their flaming cheese and fresh chewy crust bread was always the best. I am just so glad i got gyro, because I almost didn't. Recently I have had several gyros at other greek places and the dry, overcooked or greasy meat had turned me off of them. Central gyros are how a gyros should taste! Try their food! Only criticism is that they need to make their sign visible! The trees have completely hidden their cool street sign. They would really get more people if the sign was not buried behind the two trees. Call the city.

Yelp
The broiled lamb riblets are the hidden gem here ! They give rice potatoes side soup and some delicious lamb riblets ! Worth it!

Yelp
Our server has been working there for 20+ years and is super sweet and awesome at her job! My gf and I always go back and forth about who has better gyros (central gyros or gyros express). Well, I finally got to see what she is raving about. Saganaki is phenomenal! Best I have ever tasted, melts in your mouth. On top of their bread was perfection. Gyros, were delicious (but gyros express is better). Was a bit disappointed with the portion size. Normally, when we get a platter with an extra pita, we can stuff our gyros so they can barely close and still have more to pick at, this wasn't the case....we had to order and extra side of meat. So what really makes it a platter? Not sure. The restaurant itself has a great Greek feeling and decor.

Yelp
I've been coming to Central Gyros ever since I was a little kid - how have I not reviewed this place yet?!?! Central Gyros is by far my favorite Greek restaurant. This restaurant is incredibly humble, down-to-earth, spacious, and extremely delicious. They have a die hard staff that has been for years. The service here is spectacular - they're so hard working and they know their menu off the back of their hands. I also found out they have new owners now during my most recent visit a few days ago; I've always loved the staff here! The food is where the gold's at. This Greek food is GOOOOOD. I highly recommend their chicken shish kabob plate that comes with rice, potatoes, and a soup. Their avgolemono soup is the best in the area. I squeeze extra lemon in it to make it more sour. Their gyros are to die for and their Greek salad is light and refreshing. Their fries are very thick and potatoey, too - my family absolutely loves the fries. The complimentary seeded bread is endless and yummy. They also have the best Greek potatoes I've ever had at any Greek place. It's all reasonably priced, as well. Overall, if you're looking for a delicious, down-to-earth spot for some Greek food, you've found it!

Yelp
Central Gyros seems to be super popular and a favorite for many. I had to check this place out, because one of my favorite foods is gyros. I did a carry-out, in which I ordered the Gyro sandwich - I did ask for this well-done, extra onions, with the tzaziki and the tomatoes. They definitely delivered on the onions, which I super appreciated. However, the pita bread was kind of stale - should have been buttered up and super fluffy. The gyro meat was a little hard and chewy, as if they were already cooked in advanced and barely warmed up; I was expecting more of the 'fried' that they describe on the menu, which would have been more crispy and more greasy... Definitely on the saltier end, which I didn't mind. The portion is great, and you could easily make two pita sandwiches out of the meat. The restaurant itself had a funny odor; not sure if there was carpeting inside or not, but there was some type of a musty smell that I was not a fan of. Staff were super friendly and welcoming! There's a free city parking garage across the street, which is super convenient - just be careful crossing Central, as it's a super busy street. +chewy gyro meat +friendly service! +free city garage across the street

Yelp
A real neighborhood spot with authentic Greek food. In between fast casual and upscale dining in a dining room setting. The decor is reminiscent of old style Greek murals that adorn the walls. It is bright and airy and the tables are a decent distance apart so you're not on top of each other. The restrooms and super clean which is a big plus with me. I always get an idea of how owners and management feels about their establishment by the sense of the restrooms and quality of napkins. Here, with get a big ups! The server was excellent! I wish i remember his name as I always make it a point to ask names of those who so graciously choose to serve my meal. It's not an easy job and these folks don't get nearly enough kudos. I super nice Hispanic guy who knew his menu well and suggested choices from the menu. Their offerings are 100% Greek and authentic in every way. You really can't go wrong here on what you order. There is something for everyone vegetarian and carnivore alike. Greek food being generally vegetarian friendly offers excellent non meat selections. I try different things here though today went with the gyros plate. A plate full of of quality gyros meat on a bed of fresh cut white onion and sliced tomatoes. Pita bread on the side with their Tzatziki sauce makes for an excellent filling lunch. There is the option between rice or very good steak fries with you plate. I've had the rice and it's excellent however this was a fry day. The fries are thick long and not at all greasy. If I had to give a 5 star on any particular item it would be the Avgolemonos soup. A Greek style egg drop should with rice in a thin lemon broth with an excellent flavor. This is my absolute favorite and of soups and I know soup. Central Gyros hands down has the absolute best Avgolemonos in the city. This alone with their legit Greek salad would be an excellent meal anytime a day. This soup will warm you and fill your taste buds with joy. So try some soon. An excellent choice to dine at lunch or dinner.

Yelp
THE BEST GYROS IN CHICAGO! I can't tell if I like the chicken or lamb gyro more but both are fantastic. I got a mixture of both and a side of their chicken soup. Chefs kiss! The service is very attentive and very homey vibe inside. Deff recommend

Yelp
Had a lovely lunch experience here today. Dined alone, and got probably the simplest menu item: gyros, fries, and a Coke. The gentleman made me feel so at home; he was very attentive without hovering, and best of all the food was incredible. Thinly sliced gyros meat piled high on perfectly griddled pita. Super hot and fresh steal fries. Great experience, hot and fresh, great service, delicious! What more could you ask for?
google avatar

Lauren Z.

Yelp
Gyro meat is less than subpar. Ordered a plate and the meat was "rubbery" and seemed to be the last reminisce of what was left for the day. Fair prices as far as providing meals (fries + drink) but overall it's just average at best. Gyro meal only comes with one pita. I recommend asking for one extra on the side since it's more meat than bread. Generous on their tahini sauce (provided two)

Shelly S.

Yelp
This place is literally a Hidden gem!! The Food quality 10/10. Amazing service and will be returning again!

Yelp
My love and I popped into Central Gyros for lunch recently. The food we ordered tasted better than what I ate a few years ago here, so yay for us. We had fried eggplant as an appetizer, and it was a pretty large serving. We split a combination dinner, and we were quite happy to do so. This combo meal of Greek foods includes a bowl of soup, and our lemon chicken rice soup (I believe the actual name for the soup is avgolemono) was tasty. The platter itself contains samplings of gyros meat, pastitsio, dolmas, along with rice, peas and a wedge of potato. Everything was good, but the gyros meat was so well prepared that it was absolutely delicious, and the cup of creamy tzatziki sauce was equally as yummy. The complimentary sesame bread and butter was appreciated by our taste buds. We must give a shoutout to our server. She was just oh so super nice and attentive, and she even gave us notice when she was serving the flaming saganaki to another table so that we could really appreciate that Opaa moment. Also, it looks like there is still that parking garage across the street on Central that offers free parking to folks shopping in the area - good deal if you can get it!

Yelp
My go to for gyros on the northwest side. Great portion and those thick fries are amazing.

Yelp
Established over 40 years ago this family run Greek restaurant, deemed to have some of the best gyros in chicago! Had the hummus and pita, roasted red pepper enhanced the homemade flavors of the hummus, enjoyed the chicken and rice soup with lemon, which was absolutely delicious. Gyros were very good, not greasy and the perfect size, meat was a mix of beef and lamb, their specialty. Added grilled onions to mine and it came with thick fries. Side of Greek rice was a bit bland, but overall a really nice solid meal at reasonable prices, and very friendly service! We

Yelp
Located in Belmont Cragin neighborhood of Chicago, Central Gyros has been serving Greek food to Chicago for decades. Great food and service. 5 out of 5 stars.

Yelp
A delicious hole in the wall that seems like it had existed for a hundred years. Delicious food, quick service, the spot to go if you are in the area!

Yelp
Food was fantastic the waitress was horrible I want to go back and eat again but I'm worried that I'll end up with her as my waitress I mean she was soooo slow it was not packed she was just sooo slow and clueless messed up quite a few things in our order I still tipped the 15 percent that she did not earn but like I said good food maybe I'll just order take out to be on the safe side also the aroma that was coming from the bathroom lingerie all the way into the dinning room so service 0 ambiance 0 food 10

Yelp
Service great. Ma and Pa shop. We all ordered gyros. They were decent thinly shaved with pita bread, onions, and tomatoes and a bed of hot thick deeply fried French fries. The side sauce was good too.

Yelp
Everything was great 2 problems with the food.#1 the salmon was fishy. #2 after the food and i got home i exploded diarrhea, out of my cheeks violently like the Hiroshima nuke.

Yelp
We came here for dinner and the dining area was very spacious and recently remodeled. The interior looks amazing and makes it very comfortable to dine in. We were seated promptly and were quickly able to put our orders in. I ordered their Gyro sandwich combo for 11.99 and came with fries and a drink. My wife ordered their chicken souvlaki plate for $13. I will admit it took forever for our order to come out and literally 1 minute before our food came out, our waitress brought bread to the table?? Why? Why not give us bread immediately after we ordered? I mean, it's not like the bread came out warm and fresh out of the oven. I mean come on! Anyways, the Gyro was tasty. One of the best tasting ones I've had. Some are too greasy, some are to salty, this one tasted just fine. It could have used more tzatziki sauce, and other I've had also really pack the pita bread with gyro meat literally falling out with every bite. So you don't get a bang for your buck here at 11.99 with fries. We all know fries are cheap, so this is by far the most expensive gyro sandwich I've ever tried. The Chicken Souvlaki was very tasted. Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and was very tender. It was served with rice and was absolutely delicious. A very delicious meal yet still pricey at $13 for rice and chicken. Overall the food was really good, but their customer service needs to improve. The bread that was given to us right before our meal, was a slap in the face, and then we waited 10 minutes to come and it never did. So we got up and paid at the register. Then she gave us our bill while we were standing. And it's pricey imo.

Yelp
Was going in for a gyro. Looking in the window seen the guy slicing the meat to order I seen him drop the meat on the floor pick it up and just mixed it in with the rest of the gyro meat on a pita .I knocked on the window. The cook acted like he didn't hear me or see me Never never going to that place. Central gyro can't give you zero stars

Cenzo R.

Yelp
been coming here for 20 ish years.. consistently greasy and great.. best gyros in the city

Yelp
Great food at Central Gyros in Portage Park. Compares with the best of the best in Greektown. Heads up: there is a Free Parking lot across the street owned by the City. Makes it especially easy for our group to meet and all walk to their cars at the same time.

Yelp
We picked up food on a rainy Saturday so they weren't super busy. Food was ready fast, decent prices, generous portions and packaged well. Tasty...would return! I ordered the greek salad and added gyro meat for an additional $5. Also added a chicken skewer that was DELICIOUS. We shared an order of the saganaki... appreciated they put a piece of pita bread under to absorb the oil.
google avatar

Christian L.

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday afternoon and right away we were greeted & seated. They have enough tables to where you're not seated to close to the other guest, so that was great.. Our waitress Nina was the best! She made sure we were taken care of. We ordered the gyro meal-$12.99 not bad at all!! Oooo and you can park for free across the street in the city parking lot. I highly recommend

Michael A.

Yelp
Best gyros hands down! The costumer service was amazing! I highly reccomend everyone looking for a great authentic Greek experience to go here. Best in town!

Yelp
An old neighborhood favorite that remains popular with new comers. If Greek American food is your thing, Central Giros may be the place. They have the usual fare found in most Greek family restaurants but served in a casual atmosphere, with reasonable prices and generous portions. You can try one of the chicken dinners, pork chops, lamb or an combination dinner; regardless of your preference, at Central Gyros you still get a complete meal: soup or salad, rice or potatoes and sometimes both. But the star of the menu is the gyros. Best I have ever had. Another popular sandwich is the souvlaki; tender grilled pork chunks, served on pita bread with onions, tomatoes and sauce. It is just like a gyro, but with pork; a more sensible meat. The service is prompt and cordial; probably due, in no small part to the owner, whom like the gyros, has been a staple of the restaurant since its opening. So, next time you find yourself on the northwest side, stop by and give then a try, there is a good chance it won't be your last!

Yelp
Ok with a name like central gyro I was thinking a takeout joint. But no it is sit down too and the food is tasty and reasonable and they give you a lot. We shared beets and skordalia which we really liked. My husband had the pork souvlaki which was cooked well and I had the 1/2 mousaka and 1/2 pasticio which was good. The chicken lemon soup was tasty and we were so happy they had roditis!!!

Yelp
Get everything! This places is wonderful to dine in with family or purchase a gyro plate to go and be on your way with top trier cuisine. Don't forget The lamb chops as they are also winners. Continue to Keep up with the consistency. Grade given: Solid B+

Yelp
Well had a craving for a Greek food and I've been going to Central gyros since the 1990s. It was a tough call between Mexican or Greek but I haven't had either cuisine for some time. Despite that I dined in central gyros last year and this year they have the Mexican Independence Day in September by chance since I thought Mexican food. Also in 2019 the restaurant burnt down and they didn't open for some time. Other than that I started off with the traditional Greek lemon soup which was delicious and they gave generous amounts of bread and butter. And it was a tough call because I usually order the grapevine with meat fillings called Dolmadres. Which was very savory and I ordered the braised lamb which came with a side of potato and rice which was also delicious but a bit greasy for the lamb nevertheless. I ended my meal with a dessert called baklava. Which I haven't had for a while it's a breaded pastry. Anyways do come here it's not too expensive compared to most Greek restaurants and I've been going here for some time the owner knows me and he's very friendly

Yelp
Ok, I have been meaning to review this location but I have always gotten take out which is picked up by my husband! Finally, had dinner here and order their Gyro sandwich meal. My husband order the gyro dinner plate. Both were so delicious. I would suggest to come here and have their gyros!! The gyro plate was a little yooo much for my husband so he said next time, just get the sandwich. SORRY, no food pictures because I ATE IT ALL! YUMMY

Yelp
Have been coming here for years. The food is great and inexpensive. The service is always top rate. The owner is in the restaurant and is very friendly and hands on. Love the gyros sandwich & the souvlaki plate. The chef's special salad & the lemon soup are 2 other favorites. Best gyros in town!

Yelp
IT' ALL GREEK TO ME I last wrote a review in 2010 for this neighborhood gem which is currently celebrating 45 years in business. That is an amazing feat to accomplish in the world of failed Chicago restaurants. I grew up eating here with my family. We had a family business and this was a weekly dinner stop on our way home because of the long hours we always worked. I returned to my old neighborhood again because my wife was craving a good gyro and she wanted Central Gyro. When we arrived I noticed that they had remodeled the interior including fresh paint, new walls and new tables. I was also happy to see the owner standing at the front counter. He is a staple and the pillar of this restaurant. We were seated promptly on a Saturday afternoon. I loved seeing that the restaurant had a great crowd the whole time we were eating here. It wasn't packed but remained half full the whole time we dined which was great considering we were here after lunch. I also noticed a lot of carry out customers too. I'm a little selfish because I want this place to remain open for another 45 years. They are old school here and serve fantastic free sesame seed topped french bread with butter. I miss the days when all restaurants served bread to start a meal. We started with the Saganaki which is the flaming cheese. As it arrived to our table the whole restaurant yelled, "Ooopa!", while our cheese went up in flames. In fact, everyone yells this every time a table receives there flaming dish. It makes the dinning experience fun. We all ordered gyro sandwiches which were fantastic. Each sandwich is topped with raw white onion, tomato slices and tzatziki sauce with a perfectly toasted pita. This is a solid sandwich and it is as good as I remember. If you've never been here then I recommend you dine here. They have a full bar and domestic beer is only $4. There is also a free parking garage across the street which is great for all of the local businesses in the neighborhood. Thanks Central Gyro for providing me and my family delicious Greek food for the last 45 years. You are truly a local gem in the city of Chicago.

Yelp
My family has been coming to Central gyros for over 20+ years and with every subsequent visit, they've never failed to disappoint us. The main reason for the five stars is due to their consistency in providing quality gyros paired with efficient service. The owners and staff are super nice and they always greet us when we come in through their doors; making us feel welcome and at home. Naturally, over the years the menu prices have increased. Despite the inflation, the gyros plate is definitely worth the money. The gyros plate offers double the meat; so you know your getting the most for what you pay. Their gyros are moist and seasoned to perfection. The tzatziki sauce is also worth mentioning. The rich and creamy tzatziki sauce is incomparable to others I have tried. It's nice and thick; with just the right amount of tang. My only critique on the gyros was I wished they were a bit more crispy on the edges. Perhaps that's personal preference but besides that, their gyros are extremely enjoyable! The interior space is substantial and can hold about 60-75 people comfortably. The busboys constantly make rounds to sweep the floor, wipe down, and clear the tables; ensuring an eating space that is clean and odor free. Vibrant Greek themed woodwork can be seen on almost every wall. There is also a full service bar in the restaurant serving up drinks and cocktails. Metered street side parking is available. On busy days, if parking is an issue, there is additional parking at the public garage right across the restaurant on Belmont and Central avenue.

Yelp
Best in Chicago for my money. The gyros, dolmades and souvlaki rock and it's tough to choose. The saganaki is simply the best in town. Make it well done and take your time. Welcoming atmosphere. Smells great.
google avatar

Christopher G.

Yelp
I appreciate the history here, and I appreciate that they are open during this damn pandemic. I ordered online and picked up. I will make this short. A gyro is a very simple sandwich. This one was nothing special. A bunch of sliced, somewhat dry, meat packed into a pita with very little tzatziki, tomato and onion to speak of. Maybe if I had a cold beer and more tzatziki on the side... I gotta continue to say that Athenian Room in Lincoln Park has by far the best gyro sandwich I've ever had. Five Faces on Division Street also has great ones, but I was also seriously drunk on those nights I dropped in at 2 a.m.

Yelp
I saw an episode of "Chicago's Best" almost four (4) years ago featuring Central Gyros. At that time I didn't really call myself a foodie and and thought a can of Campbell soup would be much better than a poppin' hot homemade Gyros plate. Sorry, folks. I'm now a changed person, or at least I can say I've changed a lot since moving to Chicago. "Central Gyros" is one of many restaurants I pass by on Central frequent, yet tonight hubby and I walked into this place for the very first time. I brought several "uninvited" guests to dine with us as well: pidgey, rattata, drowzee, jynx, eevee, and spearow. As many of you may have figured it out, "Central Gyros" is a poke stop. Let's just say this in unison: Oppa'a! We ordered one of the most popular appetizers: saganaki, or Greek-style pan-fried cheese. There was a wedge of lemon on the side, and I squeezed some lemon juice on top of the saganaki. It was quite delectable. I must admit that their gyros plate is a little on the pricier side, but the portion is large enough to split into two (2) meals. The gyro meat was delicious, so was the tzatziki sauce. I could tell the quality of everything was superb. Service was also very prompt and responsive. In addition, the boss did a round of greeting to each table to ensure that everyone of us enjoyed the meal. The total for a gyros plate, a vegetarian plate, and an order of saganaki came to $31 and some change. I didn't know how hubby was able to finish his veggie plate. He should know that Rosa J. isn't going to wake up early on her day off to fix him some breakfast, and he better not to touch her leftover gyros!

Yelp
Best gyros in Chicago hands down never fails, owner is very nice has well. Love there rice and chicken too. They even have a chicken gyro that's amazing.

Yelp
Great food and Great service. We grew up in Chicago and this is one of our favorite places to go.

Yelp
Very good Greek food and also American food DELICIOUS! Great service and selection. Very cozy location!

Yelp
Ordered the gyros combo plate to try a little of everything. Gyros was delicious with thinly shaved onions, tomato slices and tzatziki on grilled pita! Fantastic! The Greek sausage had a somewhat strange flavor I can't quite figure out what it was -- not horrible but not that good either. The rice was not warm and was just plain rice. The potatoes must have been sitting all day. Neither were anything special. Took souvlaki home to try later. Best to stick just with the gyros -- that's what they're known for. Everything else, I've had better at other Greek restaurants.

Yelp
I stopped at Central Gyros on Monday night, 2/17 because I participate in a couple of Chicago area restaurant pages on Facebook. One of the page monitors called a pop-up dinner at the place which I saw two hours before it was set to start. With no definitive plans for dinner I figured, "why not?" And so I went... Ended up being just four of us, but it was still a great opportunity to try the place out. I was the first one there and when I mentioned there might be a few people coming, the staff quickly set up a table for ten people with more room available should it become a larger group. I found the restaurant to be kind of interesting in that the front area had the look and feel of a fast food place, but the seating area was definitely geared toward table service. Very open, large and clean appearance. Co-members who came ordered a variety of options from the menu and seemed to be pretty pleased with their meals. I ordered a lemon soup and the gyros plate. The soup was good but I have had better. When the server brought out my gyros plate, the potatoes didn't seem right - looked like steak fries rather than Greek potatoes. The server confirmed my suspicion and noted kitchen had plated the wrong spuds. The error was quickly corrected. As for the entree, often a platter comes with two pieces of pita - this came with one. I did manage to get all the gyros meat onto the single piece which kinda confirmed my second observation - the platter was slightly smaller than most platters I've had at similar restaurants. Before I draw my final conclusion, let me step back and talk about the two servers that were on the floor when I first arrived. Both of them were personable and enthusiastic. One of them started to check on us, but I think she was cut so the other server took care of our table. Top to bottom she did a great job. I've said it in previous reviews and I'll say it again here - nowadays anybody can make "good food" - but it's the service that sets places apart. Which is why I'm giving Central four stars rather than three. The food was OK - nothing all that different from most peer restaurants. But the servers that took care of us were friendly and did really well - for me, they made my trip to Central worthwhile and a reason to return.

Yelp
Our go to for takeaway Greek. Gyros plate, Greek salad spinach pie is our go to order. I do wish they would give two pitas with the gyros plate (although not much to add it).

Yelp
A real neighborhood staple. Probably the best Gyros in Chicago. Has authentic Greek food and service to match. Had the fried smelt, crispy not greasy a real treat. Enough food to take home. Have been going here since 1974 when it was located across the street where the present parking lot is located. Where I had my first Gyros. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This place is decent. I've discovered it accidentally and simce I had it on my mind I decided to give it a try. First of all easy to find, parking is on the street. You can pay trough the app or machine. Restaurant is clean and has a lot of place to seat. You will be welcome by nice hostess which will give you a menu. You can take a seat and peacefully take a look on options they offer. I decided to try Avgalemono soup until they prepare my lunch to go. Soup was ok. It looks like food is fresh and that is walhat I like. I ordered chicken kabob in pita and it was tasty. Dolmade portion come in 4 pcs and they are tasty as well. And large. I like that they are filled with beef and rice. I took also potatoes and rice as a side to go since I was expecting company for lunch. And we both agreed that rice is a winner. We will go again for some food. Owner is also very polite and with good energy.
