Texas Supermarket Chain Central Market Is Actually Better Than H-E-B | Eater Austin

"As someone who likes the Texas-based supermarket mega-chain, I'm here to say Central Market — H‑E‑B’s smaller grocery chain with only 10 stores across Austin, Houston, and Dallas — is miles ahead when you care about interesting food. It’s a hybrid where I can grab weeknight staples or dive into specialty items like blue grits, a bright gose, dried squid ink noodles, or chips flavored with port wine and cheese or cheddar and shallots; there’s also a cafeteria serving gumbo, sandwiches, and burgers and a bakery with H‑E‑B‑favorite fresh tortillas. The produce and seasonal shelves regularly surface rare finds from cherimoyas to fresh truffles (and an overabundance of Hatch chile variations, including cookie sandwiches), while the freshly squeezed juices — margarita mix, lemonade, orange, grapefruit, lemon, lime, and watermelon — are chilled on pebble ice. The bulk aisles are a labyrinth where I can buy citric acid, agar, and small amounts of rice, granola, coffee, tea, and candy (I’m partial to the lime‑pepper seasoning), and the butcher and seafood counters go beyond the usual with veal, dry‑aged and wagyu beef, lamb, duck, sometimes rabbit, and seafood like Chilean sea bass, whole red snapper, halibut, mahi mahi, and sashimi‑grade fish. Their tinned fish selection is extensive — La Narval, José Gourmet, Ortiz, Patagonia, and favorites like Donostia Foods — and the wine and beer aisles rival specialty retailers with orange wines, sherries, ports, vermouths, a strong focus on Texas breweries, and nonalcoholic options like Seedlip and Kentucky 74. They also offer cooking classes (lamb, fresh pasta, kolaches, cider-and-cheese pairings), useful coupons (sometimes up to $25 off), a standout floral section with bougainvilleas, daisies, and seasonal peonies, and even bags of ice at checkout perfect for chilling oysters or a bottle of wine." - H. Intense Storms Rip Across Dallas, Damage Multiple Restaurants at Preston Royal | Eater Dallas

"The Preston Royal grocery location sustained significant damage during the storm; the company reported no serious injuries inside the store but said it will remain closed until cleanup and repairs can be completed." - Amy McCarthy

I love it!! The food is delicious, the people are very friendly, the coffee is fresh and delicious. Besides, it is always clean, fresh flowers, freshly baked bread.

Google
Curly Romaine Lettuce? For the past few months the premade packaged Caesar salad has been made with some bitter curly lettuce like no other romaine lettuce I have seen. I stop buying the salads and opted to purchase elsewhere. I went back to the store today and noticed the salad bar has the same curly “romaine” lettuce. If this is truly romaine lettuce, it must of “bolted” in the growing process and is typically not sold due to the bitter taste. I have brought this to the attention of store staff and left comments on the website with no response. Hopefully this quality issue will be resolved as I have hardly visited in the past few months.

Google
Aaah, the store that wholefoods used to be. The edit in this grocery store beats any other I have visited in a long time. The only place where I have experienced a better produce selection is at a farmers market (and they don’t typically run year round). They grown their own mushrooms in store, incredible! The bakery product is probably the best besides some artisanal boutique ones with muffins at a bargain $2.50 vs. twice that elsewhere. The meat department and staff are a rare sight in today’s grocery stores where everything arrives prepackaged from a central butchery. They will expertly prepare any item for you, ready to be cooked. It’s a home cook’s paradise

Words can not express how amazed I was just browsing this amazing grocery store! I have never seen so many varieties of fruits and vegetables, salads and cheeses, meats, and many, many more items. We spent close to 2 hours at this store! The food is amazing! Who am I kidding? The whole store is amazing! Even my daughter called it a magical store and begged me to come back!

Google
Love Central Market but this location prepared food section is just so below the other locations. The salad bar is real basic and the soup bar is always out - why don’t they properly stock it? 6pm and every hot soup is out and they don’t replenish before closing. The coffee bar is great at this location!

Google
Central Market is undoubtedly one of the premier grocery stores you can visit, offering top-notch food quality. In my opinion, it surpasses Whole Foods in many aspects. The variety of products available is impressive, encompassing everything from coffee to liquor and vegetables to meat. Whether you’re looking for gourmet ingredients, specialty items, or everyday essentials, Central Market has it all. One of the standout features of Central Market is its dedication to providing fresh, high-quality produce and products. The meat and seafood sections are particularly notable for their extensive selection and freshness. Additionally, the bakery and prepared foods sections offer an array of delicious options that cater to a wide range of tastes and dietary preferences. Despite these strengths, there is one area where Central Market falls short: their kiosk payment system does not support contactless payment methods. This is surprising, given the store's otherwise modern and customer-friendly approach. In today’s tech-savvy world, contactless payments are not just a convenience but a necessity for many shoppers. The absence of this option can be an inconvenience, especially for those who prefer to use digital wallets or contactless cards for quicker, safer transactions. Given Central Market’s commitment to providing a superior shopping experience, I believe they should invest in updating their point-of-sale (POS) systems to include contactless payment options. This upgrade would not only enhance the shopping experience but also align with the expectations of today’s consumers, ensuring that Central Market remains at the forefront of grocery retail excellence.

When I first stepped through the door, Miss Michelle (Catering Specialist) and Information Center) was awesome! She was on point with her information, and this is one of the smaller stores. This is why I'm giving it five stars because a lot of the employees do mean well, where some I can tell don't. They also do catering too if requested. Also, give their leftovers to a local church. I am working to see if they can donate to a women's shelter. I had a bad experience in the Deli area, but Miss Connie, I hope that's her name, and Miss Brenda was very sweet. Miss Brenda had questioned me about the experience that I had in the deli, because I'm pretty sure Miss Connie had let her know about the situation with the young lady who was not very friendly. But of course, she had time to play on her phone. Then, when Mr Justin came up and after we had talked then this young lady wanted to be more friendlier. You either are friendly or you're not, and if you're not, you need to leave your job! As I always said before.... people, please do not let someone touch your food if their spirit is off and they're not friendly. And Miss Brenda had insisted on me talking to Mr Justin, who was in charge of the actual daily area / fresh prepared food. Their meat section is huge from seafood to pork. I do wish they have bison or elk. I don't think they do, but maybe one of their bigger stores will. The bakery section is ridiculous and the dessert section. I really enjoy this overall I'm pretty sure this is better than Tom thumb, albertsons, kroger's, Etc this place has some class to it and I will definitely be back here to shop each and every time. They even stated that they're better than Sprouts Farmers Market

Google
Even though it was a Saturday and very busy, hubby and I had a great shopping experience today ☺ We don't have a Central Market/HEB in our Texas town and since we were in the Dallas area today, we thought we would stop in and grab a few things. The workers were very kind and courteous when we had questions about certain products. The store is very clean, well stocked and very organized. We will definitely be back 👍

Yelp
10 Stars for Central Market! I used to think Central Market was only for rich people with fancy carts and truffle oil addictions... until I learned the tricks. First tip: sign up for their newsletter--I got a $5 coupon just for joining. Then the deals kept rolling in. But the real game-changer? Their app. Sometimes they'll drop a coupon on top of an already discounted item. Last time it was strawberries--already on sale, and boom, $2 off coupon applied. I felt like I hacked the system. Their special tasting events are my favorite thing ever. I sign up on Eventbrite the second I get the email (gotta secure that spot!). You get a $5 coupon and you get to wander the store sampling delicious goodies like a VIP foodie. Yes please. I shop here like 4 times a week (don't judge me), and I know most of the crew by now. Everyone is always smiling, chill, and genuinely helpful. Had an issue once with a product--Manager Joseph refunded it without a receipt and didn't grill me about it. Just handled it. Respect. Yes, they have fancy stuff. Yes, you can spend your whole paycheck here if you're feeling bougie. But also? They have budget-friendly gems. Celery here is cheaper than Aldi, Trader Joe's, or Whole Foods--and it's always crunchy and delicious. Same goes for cucumbers, parsley, radishes. Fresh and fabulous. Their seafood specials are fire and I've never been disappointed. Plus, you'll find wild, random, amazing products that no one else carries. It's like a treasure hunt with snacks. So yeah--Central Market is my happy place. Come for the deals, stay for the vibes. See you in the produce aisle?

Yelp
I don't come here often as it's a bit too far of a drive. When I do, I'm on the hunt for something in particular. When it comes to the ambience or the vibe of the store, that will depend on the people there at the time. I noticed that in this store, as well as in the H-E-B store far north, they can both have the same hit or miss vibe. And the vibe is either very very friendly or very, very snobby. I'm not taking away points as this is not the store's fault. That's just the vibe that I get. With that being said, I can always find amazing items at both stores, especially this one. You cannot beat the stellar selection at the store. A couple of the items that I like to come here to get are the plumcots and John Kelly chocolates. Those chocolates are stellar. Of course, I will definitely be back to Central Market but it will never be the number one store for me because of said vibe . I do also want to add to be very careful when you're driving in the parking lot here because the spaces are tight and people drive really chaotic. Overall, I do like the shopping experience, but again it just depends on the day.

Yelp
ALL Central Markets are a scam! First, as many alluded, the prices are higher than HEB for exact same items. But, that only scratches the surface on the fraud I experienced in my first delivery order. The website shows Diestel Turkey roast, lists them specifically at 1 lb average at $7.49/lb and says they are $7.98 EACH! When I put 2 in the cart, it shows $15.96 and I check out with $114.00 total and $15 tip. I receive a total of $30 in fees and charges that wouldn't be there if I had shopped in store, and the Turkey arrives as 2x 3.5 lbs and $51.90! So, they bait and switch me with 3.5 times more turkey and not an each price but per pound price. Also, 17% of my items by cost were not available and not delivered, but the calculated Tip and Shopper fee is not! Essentially, you could fill up a cart with an order, carefully provide a reasonable TIP according to the order size, and if only 1 or 2 items end up being available for delivery, you still pay the full tip and fees as if your whole order was delivered. People are complaining online about the same issues I reported here. When you catch them on it, they say they can't give refunds! This is Charlatanism! These people are crooks! I finally went to a manager, which took over an hour to respond, but I did get a ONE TIME refund, telling me I couldn't get it again! I'm reporting these people to the FTC and Ken Paxton, U.S. Attorney General!

Yelp
Very nice new CM that replaces the original destroyed by the October Surprise Tornado of 2019. Pricey, but higher quality, and specialty items not found in the other markets. Many overseas spices, condiments, sauces, noodles, pastas, charcuterie needs, etc. Staff has always been pleasant & helpful. Parking, and the Parking Lot itself, is my only complaint. Yikes! A lot of very small parking spaces, awkward entrances off Preston, or Royal Lane, and McDonalds drive thru is jammed into the layout. Walking thru the lot is crazy with impatient drivers seeking spots, but your final approach to the front doors of CM is where you most likely could get runover. I wrote this a bit dramatic, but be careful in the lot. Otherwise, a splendid Central Market! Fresh food made daily, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, in clear plastic containers so you see what you get, as you grab & go. Bakery / Patisserie provides fresh loaves, and sliced packaged. The celebration cakes here are simply outstanding in both appearance & flavors.

Yelp
This store is close to me so I shop there often but no more. Advertised specials are not available frequently - no rain check of course. The staff is surly and not customer focused - don't get in their way while moving through the store - they have the right of way. They won't bag my items if they think I am going to do it first and even then I have to ask them to zip the bag. If it were one or two times I would figure it's just bad training but I routinely walk out of this store annoyed over service or misleading advertising. I don't need the aggravation over groceries of all things. I'll take my $200 a week grocery cart to another store from now on.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I'm new to Texas and new to Dallas so HEB and Central Market, and any of their locations have no bearing on this review. I felt like I had to say that because I've noticed in the reviews of this location, it often gets compared to other locations in Dallas. I came to find out about Central Market because of a coupon mailer that I received that had a coupon for $25 off your purchase. Yes, you read that correctly, with no minimum required! Before reading the coupon, I started to throw it away but I'm so very glad that I didn't! Kudos to CM's marketing team, because that was EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE! I came here yesterday (Sunday) afternoon which was kind of a big mistake. The place was packed! The aisles are small so that made it a bit awkward to shop with people e v e r y w h e r e. -_- Still, I wanted to take my time to fully understand this place and what it offers. This was my first and only experience at any CM. There is no doubt from the store's exterior, the logo color of emerald green, the prices, and the product variety and offerings that CM is directly competing with Whole Foods. I personally like Whole Foods, particularly their hot food tables. CM has a similar setup, but due to a limited amount of space, there weren't as many buffet tables here as at Whole Foods. I don't want to compare the two businesses so that's where my comparisons are going to stop. The prices at CM are not cheap on most items, while on certain items the prices are phenomenal! I bought a pack of strawberries here for 99 cents that everywhere else in America would be selling for at least $3.99. I know that because I've bought that same sized pack of strawberries from countless grocery stores in at least one other state and paid at least that price. That was a steal and the strawberries are fresh. I also bought several packs of frozen brussels sprouts for $1 and some change, which I've been finding it's getting hard to find frozen brussels sprouts that aren't in steam-in bags so I racked up. The normal price of these is about $1.99 and these were less than that so that's a win. Conversely, I've been having a hard time finding nutmeg at most stores and CM had two different varieties. They were both over $7 for medium sized spice containers. That is astronomical. Did nutmeg become an ingredient for drug use and I missed the memo? Why so high?! The bakery at CM gets major props as there was a good variety of fresh baked breads and baked items. I bought a prepared mini creme brulee that I haven't tried yet but looks delicious. The cheese section was amazing however high as hell! I still bought some 4-alarm cheddar that looked too intriguing to pass up. It was still over $5 for a small block. I wanted to get items to do an individual-sized charcuterie, and the prices were just waaaaay too much to attempt to do that here. Similar varieties of prosciutto and soppressata that I've purchased at Trader Joes in the $3-$5 range were being sold at CM for $7-10. As far as customer service, all of the staff that I encountered was friendly and helpful which was great. The checkout process could have been much faster than it was, but at least my cashier was friendly. I look forward to going back to CM, especially to try their Chef Prepared selections.

Yelp
I really love the store and come frequently, however this last trip was extremely disappointing. I ordered a Reuben sandwich and was told they only had turkey which was fine with me. The person making the sandwich must've had more important things to do like finish his conversation because he gave me the most pitiful sandwich and I wondered why I got it so quickly when they're usually toasted and takes a few minutes. He allowed it to be just warm enough so I didn't notice, because of this it was soggy and inedible by the time I reached my destination. Safe to say it'll be my last sandwich there. Maybe I'll try a store that cares.

Yelp
Location near Royal is EXCELLENT !! The guys in the pastry area were very knowledgable when it came to the Ingredients used. AAA++++

Yelp
This is a funky little Central Market that is laid out kind of weirdly even more so than the normal Central markets. The layout of the store makes it feel more crowded than it really is and has a lot of people criss-crossing and backtracking to get their items. Parking at this location is less than desirable as well. I am usually a huge fan of Central Market but this one is just okay to me.
google avatar

Janet H.

Yelp
Love these stores!! Went to one in Plano and one off NW Highway! You can get lost looking at all the wonderful things! Every vegetable known to man and they are beautiful! You can peruse the case growing mushrooms it is wonderful! I feel like you can find anything you are looking for ! For those of us needing a little assist walking around, there are plenty of scooters near front! My grandson and I will definitely go again! Pricing is pretty competitive, some things are higher but the quality is the key!
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
I ordered 1.5 pounds of fajita meat, southwest marinated. The lady at the meat counter gave us a bunch of small scaps that were questionable in shelf life, having sat in the marinade too long. The texture of the meat was mushy and off-putting. We could not eat it. She did not show us the meat before she wrapped it up, so we didn't know what she had given us until we got home and got ready to grill the meat. It was deceptive and disappointing because there was NO DOUBT that the meat should not have been sold. Upsetting experience for the price of the item and the lack of quality one expects from Central Market.

Yelp
Central market is one of the best grocery stores.. I think most people know that. This location tho, is incredible and I had to leave them a review. I was in there one night on a weekday, for some reason I didn't realize it was already 10pm and I was the last shopper spacing around.. I was checking out and realized I left my wallet in my tool kit, in my work truck at home..and felt horrible because I had $100 worth of stuff sitting there, and they were closing.. I asked if I could drive home, and I could b back in 8 mins or less.. she was kind enough to put my order on hold and let me run home, even tho by this time it was already after 10.. and they close at 10. It was very kind and sweet of her, just wanted to say how appreciative I am and that this store deserves 5 stars!

Casey Z.

Yelp
I loved the selection they have. I was like a kid in a candy store with all the options in the bakery area. The deserts are so good. Loved the dirty Dr Pepper at the little coffee cafe they had. Highly recommend

Yelp
Nice store. I like to drop by to see if they have any fresh fruits or sashimi. Central market stores are great . My only issue is the slow service in the deli departments in the week ends. They take their own sweet time with no sense of urgency at all, especially in the store on Coit in Plano it is so bad i rather skip my shopping as it messes up the whole experience.
google avatar

Benjamin L.

Yelp
Has anyone else felt oddly uncomfortable at self checkout at this location? I purchased multiple produce items, the clerk double checked almost all weight and numbers that I printed out on their sticker machines. After double checking many of my printed items weight and product numbers, she seemed almost annoyed that i was charging myself the exact amount for all. I entered in such a good mood too, it soured my experience.

Yelp
Love this market and it's at a great location. So many oranges are in season right now and I found my favorite Cara Cara oranges. I also got the cold pressed Apple, Kale, Orange Lemon, Ginger juice (100% fruit juice) which was INCREDIBLE! Since this is the only Central Market in the area, the check out lines are insane. I went during a Friday. It would have been better of they had more checkout lines. Overall, you can sample any fruit or veggie you'd like, breads and cheese. I'd love to try some of their store made salads one day because they have a lovely spread. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is the check out lines and parking. I recommend that you do not go here in the evening times or weekends because its so cramped and it took me 25 minutes to just purchase my juices and fruits. Overall the products in the store are amazing and they have so many selections of so many food items that you may need at an affordable price!
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Items are great. Never get a bad thing from the bakery.... But the workers at the Preston Central Market are rude (older Caucasian females), especially the sampler lady. I will say that I do think it is store dependent bc the folks at Central Market in Southlake are awesome. The young lady and gentleman at the counter though were helpful. So, giving three stars because the stuff we bought were a win and because others were kind. Management Please look at the people that you are putting in front of your customers. It could be a turnoff if you you don't have someone to save your rude people. Maybe put them in the back dock away from human beings.

Yelp
Amazing prices and food quality. Also love their wine selection. One of my favorite places for fresh fruit and veggies and I love being able to pick my own seasonings and beans

Annette H.

Yelp
Shopping here is the same exercise in futility as shopping at the Lovers Lanes store. The majority of the items on my shopping list are not in stock. I'm tired of driving to multiple Central Market stores every weekend trying to grocery shop for the coming week. Fix your inventory issues.

Stella C.

Yelp
This is the best grocery store ever. I see so many of my friends there and it's just a great place to be. You can get so many things there. The community is great and it is such a great place to be in my free time.

Yelp
Today was the perfect day and time for me to go to Central Market Preston Royal. While retrieving my cart chatted with friendly employee grabbing some sun on this beautiful day. Entered produce , shopped around and found someone to help me with the mushrooms (11/06 @ approximately 2:30). His name is John. I learned so much and he was so very helpful I want to be sure he receives some recognition! What a delight, now I know my Wild Mushroom Ragout with Creamy Polenta will be the best it's ever been. A Vendor with a sparkling rose was also very helpful . Keep up the good work!

Yelp
In Dallas a few days and already missing HEB, I decided to check out our closest Central Market. This place as fine, but very small and cramped, with a very limited selection, although, the produce selection was large and fresh. The staff at the seafood and cheese counters were very friendly and helpful, as was the man who checked me out (even if he did give me a hard time for being a 49er fan). I'll probably stop by again since it's close, but couldn't get all my shopping done here.

Angela E.

Yelp
CM has good quality produce and meats/seafood. It's pricey. I was willing to pay for that. What I'm not willing to put up with is the crime ridden parking lot - and the fact that CM will not hire DPD unless all the other store tenants at Preston/Royal contribute. I though CM/HEB was concerned for the safety and well being of their customers. I was wrong. High prices. Low safety. New motto.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is not a knock on Central Market in general, but a review of this particular location only. This place is a sardine shack. I mean it's very tiny and unacceptable for central market standards. They don't carry many items that most central markets do. Think of it like every section of a normal grocery store reduced by 50% The salad bar is a joke, the soups are practically nonexistent, no ginger or papaya in the bulk section, barely any ice cream or milk, barely any craft beer, and the yogurt section was completely ghetto. Buuuuuuuuuuut...........THEY HAVE BREAD! If you want bread, they have plenty of bread in all shapes and sizes. As a matter of fact, half the store is covered in bread. All this bread everywhere and yet there is absolutely no pizza! Kind of ironic isn't it?
google avatar

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Central Market is great grocery store! They have the freshest items. And they love giving samples!!! I was looking at the cakes and one of the employees told me to grab one off the shelf so she can cut me a piece so I could try it!! Loved that!!! Great costumer service! My husband and I were staying at home for Christmas and didn't want to cook or do anything so we saw that they had holiday meal pick up. Meals put together and you can just pick it up in the store! There was some great options from big to small, all different varieties. We ordered turkey breast meal for 4. It came with mashed potatoes, green beans with sliced almonds, corn bread stuffing, turkey gravy, rolls and cranberry relish. Plus we added strawberry rhubarb pie and sweet potato pie. It was fast and easy! You can do it all online. They already have each item in a oven safe container where you just toss in the oven and warm up! Everything was fresh and wonderfully delicious!!! Their coffee bar is Great too!!! They have the best iced orange mocha coffee!! Mind blowing!!! We will be back!!!

Yelp
I know that I love Central Market for higher end grocery items but I was not sure about their floral area. I had never used it but upon recommendation from a friend I decided to give it a try. I went in Tuesday morning and requested (6) arrangements at $60 each for 6pm that night. I wanted them all to be very different and unique which was not a problem for the florist. She even allowed me to bring in my own vases ($1 at Family Dollar instead of $8+ at the store) so I could use more money toward the flowers. When I showed up to pick them up they looked nice and were packed conveniently so I could easily transport them home. I was not immediately blown away by the flowers but figured they were good enough. Let me tell you...the next day and the day after that the flowers kept getting better. The blooms started to open up and the arrangements started to really fill out and come to their true glory. I cannot remember the woman's name but she was a nice red head. She did an AMAZING JOB. I am talking wedding flowers quality on my specific budget and requirements. I will absolutely return for more flowers from Central Market Preston.

Yelp
Love shopping for groceries here! The reasons are varied and the below is not exhaustive: 1. Parking - the spots are bigger than at that Whole Grocery store down the street. CM understands that not everyone in North Texas drives sub-compact vehicles, so there is clearly a more realistic view of the customer experience than at their competitor 2. Prices - the prices are generally competitive with those at other stores. The Whole Grocery store down the street has started giving these guys a run for the money, but that is only a recent phenomenon. 3. Personal - We have spent roughly 2/3 of our grocery budget here since it opened up. They have a number of employees that are long-tenured and greet you. It's not quite like your local Cheers neighborhood bar, but you get the idea. 4. Place - It's a great location for us plus the size of the place is such that I can typically get in and out quite quickly. Granted the selection isn't as big as at some of their other locations but for most of our needs this one hits the spot. Happy shopping!

Yelp
5 month update. It is now 5 months since this store reopened. Unfortunately, the self check out is still an issue. I don't shop here regularly (I'm usually at the Lovers Lane location) but I stop here from time to time after work. I've never not had an issue with the self check out. Every single time a worker needs to come by and put in a code because the machine things I'm stealing something or doing something wrong. It's obviously management doesn't care about this ongoing issue. You are better than this. This time the error occurred before I even started scanning. The machine thought there was something in the bagging area (there was not). Tom Thumb and Target never seem to have to have issues this regularly. Maybe hire a couple people from there to fix your broken process. Do better.

Yelp
Located in Preston Hollow, this Central Market offers a pretty good selection of high quality food and specialty items. My favorites so far include: -The soup bar -Wallaby yogurt (best over the counter greek yogurt ever) -fresh pasta at a reasonable price -rosemary bread -central market uncured bacon (both applewood and black forest were tasty) They also have a good selections of cheeses, good quality chicken and beef, a salad bar, premade food (like tamales and rotisserie chicken, enchiladas etc). They have a good amount of free sample here also. I heard that this location is smaller than the other locations, but this one is closest to me, so it'll have to do. The layout and smallness of this store does make it difficult to maneuver when it's busy here. Also, don't get the chard/ kale pre-made salad by the pound. It was too peppery and a bit strange for my tastes. It's great I guess if you like eating barky texture greens...like literally the stem of the leaf. The people that shop here do come off snobby and entitled , but nothing bad has happened to me personally. I did see an old white guy throw a hissy fit to one of the workers about one of the rolls of produce bags being out of bags/ not working properly. I think the guy definitely overreacted and was super rude, considering that the other rolls of bags were working just fine. Parking at this location is fine and prices are reasonable for most of the fresh stuff. Some of the frozen foods do seem overpriced though. I totally got ripped off not realizing that I bought some special corn dogs (4 total) that were almost $7. No thank you. Unfortunately the price wasn't labeled and I didn't find out until after I got home. Also bought some cold brew here that was expired and had to return it, so make sure you always check the expiration dates here. This store has everything I need in terms of quality food and is closer to me than some of the other specialty grocery stores, so I'll be going here at least until the Whole Foods in Irving/ Las Colinas opens.

Yelp
I keep forgetting that Central Market is in this area, as well. This isn't your usual CM because it is smaller than most. That being said, you can still find a good sized bulk spice section (which I love) and fresh produce. The health section is minimal, so if you are looking for a hard to find item, you should probably head over to some of the other CM. If you are a soup fan like me, you must try theirs in the deli section. Really tasty and cheaply priced.

Yelp
We stopped in to check out this location following a meal nearby. We regularly shop the location on Lover's, so we were curious. This location has all of the familiar brands and departments, but everything is downsized. The selection is not nearly as good as on Lover's for anything. It's a much smaller store. I suppose if I lived in the area I would still shop here as the quality cannot be beat, but it really made me appreciate how great the store is on Lover's.

Yelp
What can I say about Central Market? I love it! It is also EXPENSIVE! I came to Central Market after someone posted a photo of Black Truffle Salt. Never heard of it and after some research I thought it sounded fabulous. My mission was simple. Go to CM for the salt. So I thought. Central Market can be compared to Whole Foods in the sense that they sell high quality products. The staff at CM are insanely helpful and knowledgeable. The store selection is amazing. They have fruits and veggies that I've never seen before. They have regular produce but it's priced higher than other stores. While in the produce section I purchased 4 bottles of cold pressed juice at $4 a bottle. That was not planned. Then I stopped in the kitchen area and bought a nifty salad dressing bottle for about $8. While I was buying things I didn't need my husband was buying meat we didn't need too. He came back to the cart with some rib eye about $60. It didn't stop there. Wish it had. I found texas pecan coffee pods and other coffee for about $24. My husband returns with Peach Bellini Italian Soda (4) bottles for $3 each. We found some Truffle Pate and loaded up in that and some buttered croutons. It got pretty bad. We lost all self control. We had to stop but just kept making impulse buys. It's like CM has this hold on us. What about the salt? Did I find it? I sure did. It was about $56 a pound. I carefully measured enough for me not to deplete our checking account. The aroma of the salt is so earthy. We almost made a last minute impulse buy with some truffles. The cashier let us try some before buying. Wow! I'm glad he did. We didn't like them and saved $6. We left with our wallet much lighter but when we got home we were much happier with the products we selected. If you haven't tried Black Truffle Salt it is amazing. I use it on fresh veggies and meat. There's not much I don't use it on! CM is the place to find it. If you come here make sure your account is full and you're willing not to leave with buyers remorse!

Yelp
This is one of the "next generation" supermarkets that Kroger, Albertson's and the other old school grocery chains need to take notice of. There are really just two types of consumers: Those that buy based on price, and those that buy on quality. Central Market clearly tries to appeal to the quality set. This place proves you don't need to jam everything under the sun on a huge sales floor to make your customers happy; You just need a small selection of high quality items tucked together in a modestly sized store. This Central Market has an impressive selection of items, some of which aren't normally found at the chains. Think Whole Foods but on a smaller scale. I wish this store was closer to me, I would definitely shop there regularly. Oh, and they have a section for vegans, which is a plus in my book!

Yelp
Good: big variety of fruits/veggies/produce (including mushrooms). Bad: Prices are high for average quality items, even compared to Whole Foods. Hyper consumption of single use plastic for things that don't need packaging. DO NOT USE SELF CHECKOUT. Machines are slow and constantly require workers attention. Layout is terrible. Don't go here when it's busy.

Yelp
I'm a huge Central Market fan. However this location is particularly small and with limited selection. It has been good from time to time to pick up a rotisserie chicken & family size salad. To be honest, there were times that they ran out of both. Nice to have in the neighborhood but I do not go to this location if I really need something that Central Mkt carries, because its highly likely they will not have it. I'd be better off going to Lovers or Plano. But try it. They have stuff just not alot of it.

Yelp
Wow this place is a food lover's dream. I came here and found so many different types of microbrews and also lots of awesome eats. If you want a cheap breakfast come here. Get a bagel for 99 cents, find some kumbucha and get some water for under 5 bucks. They also offer fun samples on the weekend. The butcher shop is a dream. It's got everything one could be looking for. It's a bit pricier but you'll find lots of cuts, premade and marinaded meats that you can just buy and cook immediately.

Yelp
I love Central Market. They have an awesome selection of great, organic and healthy food. I love the bakery section and I have gotten the chocolate croissant a few times. So good! They also have a great selection of HEB produce. Also, they have craft beer and wine galore. While I love Central Market, this location felt really cramped. I love the location on lovers and Greenville. They have a far better selection.

Yelp
The workers are rude , rude rude . I thought the lady working at the deli was going to kill me when I ask for a serving for two of potatoe salad. I went about 8:30 on Wednesday April 25 th She said how am I supposed to know what two servings are . She slammed the potato salad on the counter and walked off , I wanted to order other food and she just looked and me like she wanted to kill me and walked off . The people work here they don't own the store they are no better than any customer. They really need training in customer service . They have good products but the employees are rude . They are either exhausted or overwhelmed or really need training. I went to the location on coit rd . If you go to this location you will see how cold and rude the workers are .

Yelp
Too many people. Too many rude people. Too many rude rich people. Too many rude rich white people. Too many rude rich white people who don't care about other customers. I came here looking for a cake to surprise my boyfriend with. Dallas is a large city but lacks HEB stores. And I prefer HEB cakes over Kroger's. The parking was helluva hectic and efficient parking spaces at the end doesn't help neither. I walked in the store with lots of stares staring at me. A lotta rude and disgust stares like I wasn't suppose be the store. As I finally was able to approach the bakery. The lady behind it was very mean towards me because I asked if the cakes had fudge in them. As the prices in the display were expensive. She was so frickin rude that she directed me over to another area so that she could take care of the lady behind me. Stupid B! This store was so overwhelming in walk in because of all of people. All of the rude people. I left and I didn't even purchase anything. When I got outside away from the chaos. Another stupid rude b, decided to swing her car door and dent mines. She didn't even acknowledge that she did it. I was so frustrated. Because, I was in the car at the time when she did it. I beeped my horn and I said Hey! Woman! and she still ran off as if she was in the wrong and didn't want to get caught. I will not be back to a place that encourages rude people and rude workers as well. I come in looking for a fudge chocolate cake and receive disrespect. What's up with that?!

Yelp
Ahh, Central Market... the only place I can count on going and paying $2 for an avocado. And yet I love it. The variety, the prepared foods, the freshness, the logical layout of the store... I'm glad to have one close. Check out is fast and friendly: shouts to Ari for keepin it real.

Yelp
I've been craving one of roast beef sandwiches they make in the deli. I highly recommend this next time you are there. Can't wait to go back. Also I love the organic cocoa granola, yum

Yelp
So great to have a CM in the neighborhood! This is a great place for organic food and competitive prices. Loads of great samples to keep the kids happy while we shop. Great fish counter and meat selection. They have 5/5 stars because of newly added bins of bulk dry goods :) TIP: watch for great deals on organic milk on Mondays!

Yelp
This is the type of grocer I've been looking for. The butcher/fishmonger is the best stocked I've seen in the DFW. The bakery is filled with so many beautiful and delicious sweet treats and breads. The deli has an amazing number of cheeses, meats and specialty items I couldn't find elsewhere (quail eggs, caviar, fresh whole truffle and sundry to pair with a good drink). Speaking of drinks, the wine and beer selection is quite impressive as well. There are condiments and seasonings at Central Market that I simply couldn't find in a brick and mortar elsewhere in DFW, huge thumbs up for that. All employees I interacted with were friendly and attentive, this may be the best thing about this place (and that's quite impressive given how taken I was with the contents of the shelves!). The customer service here really makes the poor quality service of other area grocers stand out all the more. I'll definitely be back... regularly. Good job and keep it up!

I love this store! whats not to love...besides the prices on some items?! I mean super fresh produce and potatoes the size of your arm! I love going here for specialty items that i know i cannot get anywhere else. Love dip..i love you.. and pimento cheese dip.. i love you equally as much. I love the creativity of this grocery store and the items they have. if you have never been here.. you are missing out and need to get here ASAP!

Yelp
Love this store it have to take off one star .. The space is smaller than others so it does fell very cramped in here. Good selection and everything is filled and displayed great . A little hard to find things
