Convivial bistro offering riffs on tradition, from New American to French food.
"A stone’s throw from the Ford’s Theatre, Central Michel Richard calls itself “an American bistro with a French accent.” That certainly reflects on the menu. Versatile entrees include ahi tuna burger, fried chicken, and mussels with frites, all served in a chic, wood-framed setting." - Vinciane Ngomsi, Tierney Plumb

"Central Michel Richard decrees this as “Emily (& Michel) in Paris” week (Monday, July 10 to Friday, July 14) as a nod to the popular Netflix series. The late Richard’s legendary French bistro along Pennsylvania Avenue NW is currently decked out with French flags, with beret-donning servers dishing out limited-time dishes, French cocktails, and wines. Pop-up specials from executive chef David Barigault include chouquette (French pastry puffs), hachis parmentier (French beef and potato casserole), Parisian gnocchi, and macaroons. Central also hosts an Emily in Paris-themed party on Bastille Day from (4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.) across its patio and bar, with guests encouraged to wear their best Emily Cooper look." - Tierney Plumb
"Chef David Barigault has carefully updated the menu at Michel Richard’s Central on Pennsylvania Avenue with French-influenced dishes, but he hasn’t made any changes to its French onion soup. The reliable order calls for a miso stock with melted Gruyere and provolone cheeses." - Vinciane Ngomsi
"In a nod to the festive but not sommelier-forward wine of the day, Central Michel Richard showcases a three-day prix fixe menu dubbed “(Better) Beaujolais than Nouveaux est arrivé” from Thursday, November 17 to Saturday, November 19 during lunch and dinner service ($60). Wine offerings include Domaine Andre Cologne et Fils-Les Terres-Dessus’ 2020 Beaujolais “Gorge le Loup” ($10 glasses or $38 bottles) and Domaine de Fa’s 2019 Beaujolais “En Besset” ($13; $50)." - John Besche
