A Guide to New York's Financial District

"For bargain hunting, I found Century 21 to be a convenient spot offering a great selection at more palatable price points compared with the surrounding luxury stores." - Sophie Mendel

I returned Century 21 after over 10 years. When I was tourist, this place was my favorite. I would go crazy and picked up bargains from mountains of clothes.(longtime ago, the store was a place of chaos) As others have mentioned, there are fewer products available now, but I was surprised at how organized the store is. The fitting rooms are as beautiful as a high end boutique, and there are many private rooms, which is great! It’s a discount store for brands items, so prices aren’t as cheap as Marshalls or TJ Max. But I searched carefully and found a T-shirt for my husband and workout top for myself at a great price, so I’m happy. I recommend going to the store as soon as it opens so you can enjoy shopping without others.

I love the clearance items at C21 and the amazing designer items and great quality! My fav store!! Quality items, staff is patient and helpful, great deals. C21 cannot be beat. So grateful it’s back!!

I used to love their Long Island, New York store — it truly was the best, with unbeatable prices. It was very sad to see them let down by insurance during the pandemic and forced into bankruptcy. I’m glad, however, that I can still visit their Manhattan location, and I truly hope that little by little they will reopen more places. Wishing them the very best of luck! 🤞

Century21 use to be so much better. The selections, the sales and the experience. I use to go there and always leave completed. I saw shorts there in early March when I went and visited yesterday they were still there at full price while a bunch of the same item was on clearance. I use to go weekly before they went bankrupt, now it’s like the thrill is gone. But do visit they may have something you like they still have nice pieces and the perfumes are there. Give it a try! Hope you find a gem💕

I finally got around to visiting this reopened location back in the spring of this year, and I was a bit underwhelmed at first since the permanently closed location in Bay Ridge was my absolute favorite store and I still mourn that store to this very day. I revisited this location again recently to give it another chance, and I was amazed at how much more this store has to offer now since my last visit. The racks have more of the designer brands that I normally buy, and to me, the prices are very reasonable in spite of what other reviewers are saying. The store isn't too crowded and everything looks well organized. I know the owners are slowly trying to recapture the essence of what this landmark store was prior to COVID, but it will take some time, and I know they will get there again. The only complaint I have is that I neither work or live closeby otherwise I would make a habit of coming here every week like I did at the old Bay Ridge location.

Google
Cashier asked me if I remembered the price of the book bag over going or asking someone that worked in the store to find out i felt that was poor customer service. The cashier did inform me of the rewards points program. Seems like she just wanted to make the checkout time long so the other cashier would have to checkout most of the other customers on the line. I really dread shopping at Century21 since the Reopening not to mention the stock is way below the caliber it once was. I do not recommend you waist time shopping there.

Xin Hao

Google
Most of their outlets were closed down post Covid and this is the only outlet available now across New York. Spanning across 4 floors, they still hold a very decent amount of branded and luxury fashion goods - from sunglasses, jackets, handbags, to shoes, jeans and undergarments. Designs and sizes will vary according to availability and what you see is also depending on your luck. Grab what you can once you have your eyes on it as you never know if that will be the last piece ever. Stall was well-organized generally and staff was helpful.

Yelp
I noticed the overall opinion is less than favorable, but speaking for myself, I like Centrury 21. I wanted to visit a couple years ago when this only location reopened but didn't get the opportunity. On a whim, I was happy to breeze in, if only for a short time, to explore its comeback. What used to be 6 floors is now 3 (excluding the lower level) and I found the layout to be quite impressive and orderly . Top designer labels were displayed as well as brands I wasn't familiar. Granted the merchandise is limited but you can certainly find what you're looking for if you look hard. I ended up buying a nice tee shirt (black and white) and grabbed a bag of Cooper's cookies situated at the checkout. I believe checkout is on the first and third floors. On the first visit, I joined the smaller checkout line on the first floor which was cramped.. There's a larger checkout on first floor that I discovered when I had to exchange my shirt for a different size. My overall experience was positive. I always appreciated Century 21 going back, and when all stores closed during the pandemic, I mourned. I'm happy it has returned even in this one, original smaller location. Staff were helpful and friendly. 4 stars includes the nostalgia behind it.

Yelp
The store has reopened, however it is smaller than what it was in the past. You can still find some good bargains, however their prices have targeted a more sophisticated cliente and customer base. Their items and clothes are organized pretty neat and clean.
google avatar

Sophia Y.

Yelp
minus 1 star because not as much selection as before. No jewelry section. men's gloves did not have size small my daughter did find a DKNY purse for $30 definitely a NY only place so you gotta drop by
google avatar

Chelsie R.

Yelp
Love coming here and so happy they reopened! This last visit was a quick one. I only had time to explore the first floor which was overwhelming enough for me lol. This store has 4 levels, so you can literally spend half a day here. Lots of selection from brand names to friendlier budget brands including LV, Chloe, Gucci to Steve Madden, Karl Lagerfeld, Tumi- You name it! They offer handbags, shoes, accessories- This place has it all!!! My only negative feedback is the employees aren't as friendly and welcoming. Other than that, this store is worth visiting. On a side note- Across from this location is the One World Trade and the Oculus (which has more shops)

Yelp
Oh how it pains me to say as a former New Yorker who used to shop here all the time ... this place is a spectre of its former self. Gone is the extensive selection of European designers at killer prices. You can still find a few of those but they'll be priced too high for something by Stella McCartney you could get online for cheaper. There's a lot more mid to low end designer stuff now like Michael Kors or Ralph Lauren ... which you can get at any TJ Maxx for cheaper, if you really want to ... The once amazing designer shoe selection now only has low end stuff, a single pair of designer shoes priced too high here and there, and Manolos in designs nobody wants. C21, I will always have amazing memories of you but I think it's time for me to move on.
google avatar

Winny L.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to stop by Century 21 since it re-opened post pandemic. Much smaller store with only a few floors with select items. The main level looks the same with accessories, sunglasses, purses, men's section, the other levels seem smaller with focused items - but an assortment of discounted retail clothing for men, women and children. Hopefully the store will expand and sell more items.. doesn't have the same appeal like it used to but still a tourist attraction and for those looking for a discount designer clothes.
google avatar

Chunjai K.

Yelp
I'm glad they open again so I'm able to take my cousin to shop for discount cloth with a good deal. We went to many floors. I thought my cousin will be more interested in buying perfume but he just focusing on sport shoes but he took long time to design what he wants to buy here, LOL Do not expect of service from staff because you won't find any. As long as it is discount I don't have any problem.
google avatar

Gmoney G.

Yelp
cool little spot. similar to like nordstrom rack. they were selling louis vuitton bags for like $2000 im not sure if they were new or not. they had great discounted beauty products and stuff. check it out
google avatar

Johnathan N.

Yelp
They are ok... if you looking for regular brands you better off going to macys since you will find better deals, if you looking for designer nordstom rack and saks off of 5th will do it for you... they should close again or simply get on the same level as they were before covid
google avatar

Luke C.

Yelp
It is nothing like the old Century 21, the brands they carry are like Macy's Jc Penny. They do not carry lots of European designers like before.

Elena S.

Yelp
I went there in sat got a shirt but when going to pay I was told they didn't have change for $100 ( between 3 open registers) then the lady told me to use my card ( I had cash and didn't want to pay interest on my purchase ) all this while the other two cashiers stood silently my husband finaly paid with card but I walked out mad and disappointed this used to be one of my favorite stores
google avatar

Yelp
Century 21 survived 911 but went bankrupt with Covid, but they returned and re-opened their iconic store across from the new World Trade Center. This is only my second trip down to the Financial District in 10 years and I wanted to go to Century 21 like when I used to work down here. I am a bargain hunter when I shop, and I would always find something at Century 21 but the store feels like it has less inventory now, and some of the designer labels' prices were higher than I am used to, but I didn't leave empty-handed, am I am sure I will be back.

Deven M.

Yelp
All products value for money and some good collections as well across clothing and fragrance
google avatar

Betula F.

Yelp
I decided to stop by today thinking I was going to leave with a few items like I normally do however, I didn't. I don't know, I felt like there was not much to choose from..I wasn't getting the ole school Century shopping vibes. There was not much inventory to choose from. The store recently reopened so hopefully more inventory will come in... The women's bathroom was nice and clean and the store is organized.. I'm not gonna give up on you Century!
google avatar

Liza B.

Yelp
So glad they are back in business! (Just wish the Bay Ridge location would open again). The flagship store has wonderful customer service

Yelp
Century 21 used to be my jam!!! The store I would go to to spend money and get that beautiful rush of endorphins from getting so many items at the best deals. When they went bankrupt during COVID-19 and closed all stores, I was crushed. When they re-opened the main store, I was thrilled and couldn't wait to make a visit. I came here yesterday. I'm sad to say that this place is a total JOKE now. What a disappointment. It really pales in comparison to the way it used to be. The prices are hardly discounted anymore. Everything is quite expensive. Extremely limited number of items in every department. They used to ALWAYS have plus sized clothing. Not anymore. Could barely find any XL's. It was basically all Karl Largerfeld and Moschino. With the same prices as Macy's. Their "clearance" tagged items are laughable. Probably could get better prices at Nordstrom. What happened to all the designers they carried? DKNY? Michael Kors? No more home goods. Just clothing, a terrible selection of shoes and purses, and about 10 perfumes. Total disappointment. I can definitely say I will NOT be returning. How unfortunate. Also, the people who work there are so unfriendly. Looked like they didn't even want to be there.
google avatar

Lisa E.

Yelp
Meh...same location, directly out the doors of the Oculus, but lackluster in merchandise. No lingerie' section, minimal shoes. Smaller men's sock area. Handbags was sizeable. Not the same to me. The stuff was either cheap fabrics or insanely pricey novelty designer wear..Mens casual jackets was well stocked & the most interesting. Made me sad, used to be my happy place.

Yelp
An iconic NYC department store is back in action, and well-stocked at that. Two limitations from a 5 star review: -the fitting room attendants: I understand they are very busy but their attitude is incredibly bad for business. There is an 8 item limit in the fitting room. Typically, when there is a limit, attendants will hold the excess items and you can trade them out. Here, the attendant was robotic in her repetition of "There is an 8 item limit" when I walked up to her, when I asked her what to do with my extra items, and when I asked if she could hold them out front. How does this incentivize buying? -Prices are not as good as they seem. 260 sample sale was having a sale on a brand of an item I picked up and the item turned out to be $40 cheaper with them Yes this is a tourist attraction as it is a part of history...but will not last long with this level of service.

Customer B.

Yelp
We were visiting from Boston, and we came upon this store by chance. It brought back memories of Filene's basement. It is not the real estate brokerage! It is a fun discount clothing, shoe and accessory place! Many of the reviewers have not been complimentary, but we had a great time. Yes; you have to pick and choose, and the styles are not "bleeding edge" (they are end of last year merchandise). But you can find some good value. There is an incredible selection of shoes, including men's shoes, and the prices were reasonable (Cole Haan priced less than other stores). We found a $12 dollar markdown pair of high heels (original about $250 online)! Caveat emptor, but enjoy the experience.

Yelp
Stopped by the store again in hopes of finding a glimpse of the old Century 21 department store. Hate to say it, but nothing has changed since the re- opening. Pickings are slim. Not much of a selection. This store falls flat, it has no vibe at all. Century's used to be packed with shoppers in every department. Where are all the people now? Bring back the old Century's, bring back all the departments it used to have. Perhaps get rid of the sunglass area or move it and put Cosmetics in its place? Why are sunglasses in the window anyway? That was never a good setup. Please put registers back on the second floor in the ladies department for whoever does like to shop there now. Bringing clumsy, heavy handcarts full of clothes on the escalator is a trip hazard. I rather pay for my clothes on the floor I got them from. This used to be a department store but not really anymore. In the meantime, Nordstrom Rack it has it all and it has online shopping as well. :-)

Yelp
It has finally returned! After shutting down all of their stores in 2020, they are back. This has always been my favorite store to shop in. I hope that they stick around for a long time.

Yelp
One of the iconic Department stores of N.Y.C, When Tourist Visit New York City there think about the Statue of Liberty, Times Square ( near the garment district) , the World Trade Center, The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Central Park, Coney Island, Radio city hall theater, Rockefeller Center, Brooklyn Bridge, etc Places There should add Century 21 Department store to the list, There have American, European, Canadian & Etc Designers for less than other department stores, their motto is " Up to 65 % off retail 100% of the time ". Century 21 Department Store is Mid Range to High-end range and it can be much less than Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman,Lord and Taylor.com, Macy's, Nordstrom ,Neiman Marcus.com , Gilt.com, Dillard's .com ,Fashionphile.com or The Real Real stores ( Therealreal.com), and other New York Department stores, Century 21 department store kind reminds me of English Department store- Harrods or Printemps -French store. Century 21 department store has been in New York since the 1960s, it closed down in 2020 because of the Coronavirus Pandemic and it re-open back in New York back in 2023 on May 16. And to the out-of-state Shoppers and Country-Overseas shoppers, you can have that fun & deals too by Shopping at www.c21stores.com on a Computer or any other Electronic device !!!!. P.S.: This location is literally right across the street from Westfield World Trade Center Shopping Mall with Connections to Brookfield Place Mall with shopping & Dining. , Century 21 Department store have a Professional Sewing/Tailoring on The store Premises ! ( London , Paris , Milan , Néw York are the top four fashion capitals of the world no offense to the other cities across the world this is just facts ) Very Convient By the MTA Transporation: Subway: 2,3,4,5,A,C,J,Z-Trains: Fulton Street & Broadway & Nassau Train Station (Path Train : To New Jersey & Newark Metropolitan Area ) Or 1-Train. Cortlandt Street, Train station. Or R, W-Trains. Cortlandt Street ( Inside Westfield -W.T.C- oculus Shopping Mall) Or E-Train.World Trade Center, Train station. Bus: M55,M15 ( walking distance from South Street Seaport )

Yelp
I stopped in to Century 21 today to check it out. Ladies will be happy to know that they have an impressive selection of Louis Vuitton, YSL, and Valentino handbags, at a discount. Men will be pleased to know that they have Ermenegildo Zegna, Canali, and Ted Baker suits available, at a discount. Everybody will be pleased to know that there is plenty of Michael Kors products for both Ladies and Gentlemen. I did not make a purchase, but I will be back on another not so busy day.

David R.

Yelp
Terrible place. No sales people around in suits dept. Only a guy puttering around straightening things up that OBVIOUSLY didn't want to answer any questions. Only one Mirror in the whole area way down the hall with other people standing in the way. Had to go all the way down many times as I tried on coats. Little selection. WON'T be back!!!

Susan S.

Yelp
What a disappointment. I used to go there often..never knowing what I would find..but always finding something. There is no reason to go there anymore.

Thomas C.

Yelp
I was thrilled to see that Century 21 had reopened after it went bankrupt due to the pandemic -- Until I got there, it's nothing like the original store. This used to be a place where you could get designer clothes at low cost. Now they are selling $400 t-shirts (see pics)- admittedly these pics are the most extreme examples, but bottom line, there are simply no bargain there anymore. Used to be a great place for ties-- now, no ties at all. And for dress shirts-- there are some shirts on hangers, but I didn't see any dress shirts. There used to be a large home section, with terrific prices on designer sheets, especially Ralph Lauren-- no home section at all now. I was there on last Friday evening after work, on the men's floor, there were five or six cashiers standing around behind the counter, -- not a single person in line. I predict this place will be out of business shortly.

Lisa T.

Yelp
Honey if you live in New York do not wastes your time this is strictly for the people that fly from Europe that little clearance rack it was a joke T-shirts $90 -up designer shoes, two hundred and up a full of shit they file for bankruptcy, so they would not have to pay back the government loan Good move. and get a tax write off all of the Black people that work there. Open back up be greedy

M L.

Yelp
YUK! Way overhyped and basically a waste of time. No bargains here, you can find better deals on Amazon or even Macys. Century 21 Department Store is over, folks. Get used to it...it had its heyday but it is over. The "family " that owns this junk house just needs to find something else to do...this store ain't cutting it...
google avatar

Tom T.

Yelp
Wow CENTURY 21, your prices are super high now, and the clothes are super ugly. I missed you, but other than the logo, you're not back. You're just another department store now.

Timothy W.

Yelp
They're back. It's still a work in progress, someone there said give them a calendar year, due to supply chain backlogs, re-establishing shipping, etc. But they're back.
google avatar

Helen M.

Yelp
They've reinvented into a Glorified "Nordstrom Rack". While the space is tidied up and neater, there are no unique labels or high-end bargains to be found. Most of their inventory can be found elsewhere (TJ Maxx, Macy's, Bloomingdales) so it may not be worth a special trip down to Fidi

Allan R.

Yelp
Formerly the mecca of affordable, but quality name brand men's office wear in Downtown Manhattan. Now, this department is reduced to a small hallway off to the side of the third floor. Few shirts and even fewer pants, and almost none less than $110. Pre-pandemic men would flock here after work to quickly pick-up some new threads after work. Today, it looks like we'll all be staying on Amazon. Strange business decision by Century 21 to so easily forfeit this market they formerly dominated. The renovated store is pretty, but seems to now cater to tourists and not the local office workers.
google avatar

Cary R.

Yelp
It's good too see them back and hopefully they will build back to what it was. But for now it is more of a tourist destination to buy discounted designer labels, and lacks the staples that kept the NYC customers coming - socks, underwear, towels and bedding, cookware - the shoe dept looks most promising.

Cynthia H.

Yelp
My friend & I were excited to visit the reopening of C21 store. We drove from LI to NYC, payed $70 for parking so we wouldn't have to lug multiple packages on mass transit. I purchased inside the store $70 for 2/tank tops & beauty case with the expectation of shopping till we dropped. To my surprise not only was the inventory low but to have a beautiful platform in the city & seeing junk in there that you can buy in a barging store was as shock. Not bringing back home decor which was my primary reason for coming here was very disappointing as well. You spread overpriced merchandise to look inviting but it's so misleading. I remembered shopping at many previous C21 stores & was always satisfied. Please shutdown this C21 store, never return & leave with dignity. E-commerce is taking over so you don't have to leave your house & spend a fortune to shop! Real New Yorker's are not fooled with this facade! Very disappointed customer, Cynthia H

Darius S.

Yelp
Sadly, I would like to give it zero stars. It used to be my favorite store, but since its reopening it has become my least favorite shopping destination. It is much smaller, and it has very little merchandize. Before, I always wanted to buy at least five items here, and now there is nothing to look at. My heart is bleeding. :-(

David S.

Yelp
The newly reopened Century 21 store is the biggest flop! The only thing remains is the name. It doesn't resemble its former self at all. For those loyal customers who expect the store they remember and love, you are in for a shock! I went there twice since it's opening and that was more than enough. Never mind that they got rid of the beautiful building that hosted men's department with marble floors, antique chandeliers and a grand staircase, which added to the entire shopping experience, the limited space on only 3 floors looks like generic shop any town U.S.A. Now, the merchandise...Where do I even start? C21 in its glory days ( pre Covid) was the place to get high end European luxury clothes and shoes at ridiculously low prices and I have full closets to prove it. Now it's a dump selling ugly poor quality trash by brands nobody ever heard of at ridiculous prices. All famous designers are gone, except for some random pieces that look like they were sitting in some dusty New Jersey warehouse for years. Bottom line: a total disaster not worth a visit. What a shame that a business that was a top N.Y. destination for over 60 years with millions of loyal customers was turned into a joke of a store. In my opinion, this store's days are numbered if they don't change their business model. So sad...

Yelp
I was extremely excited to see Century 21 Dept. Store reopening and was quickly deflated by the horrors of Opening Day. I arrived about 1:30 pm and found the store packed to capacity. If a Fire Marshall stopped in the store would be shut down. I quickly found three pairs of sandals in my size and tried to purchase them at various registers only to find that the credit card payment system was inoperable. There was at least 75 people waiting in line at every register on each floor. I did not want to risk being trapped in the store with no way out, in case of an emergency, so I asked a manager if I could have my items held for another day when their system was working. Tiana on the third floor, told me to write my name and phone number and she put the shoes in a bag and told me that someone would call me for pick up. Went to the store today and found that they put my shoes back on the floor. I found one out of the 3 pairs and was very disappointed. Shame on Century!!!!

alex s.

Yelp
This is not the old Century 21. The prices are ridiculous. They only have top designers now and not much ready to wear. No more home goods or decorative items. Worse yet Macys and Bloomies have better prices when they go on sale.

Gee K.

Yelp
Not the old century21 everything in the store are sizes XXS-SMALL. Absolutely no inventory. Selection is minimal.
