I've been here several times - once with a group of girlfriends, once with a foreign exchange student (I wanted to expose her to pottery painting) and two times on my own.
The building is over 100 years old so you can't expect it to be too big but I will use the word quaint - because it's totally cute and I love old stuff. Anyway, the owner, CC, is really nice and is usually around to help with whatever. Jillian is also a nice gal who works there, knows her craft painting, and sure is pretty awesome with kids when they show up. There are others who work there too but these are the ones that I have interacted with the most.
They offer all types of ceramics to paint from bowls, to plates, to coffee mugs, figurines, jewelry boxes, and lots of kids stuff, such as ponies, angry birds, piggy banks, etc. Whoever is working will explain the procedures on how to paint and the service fee also includes them cleaning up the mess that you make when you're finished. Once you've painted whatever it is that you're going to paint, you leave it there and they glaze and fire it for you in their oven. It's usually ready within a week. If you can't find what you're looking for, you're able to place special orders from magazines they have there... I did this for trinket boxes I needed as wedding thank you gifts and they were here within a week. I also didn't get charged double (or quadruple rather) for the many times that I had to come back and finish painting this large order of trinket boxes I had, so they earn double brownie points from me.
They do have a Facebook page, which is updated regularly with the special activities like Ladies Night (Thursdays) or classes that they offer. You are allowed to bring in food and drink so you can munch away while you're painting (this includes alcoholic beverages). They do offer sodas and water there for purchase as well. Oh, and they ALWAYS have the oldies rock station playing - which is pretty awesome to me! More brownie points ;)
The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because of it being a tad bit on the cluttery side. I'm sure they are doing the best that they can with the space that they have but I feel that they should possibly hire a professional organizer to help them reorganize and maximize the space that they do have. It would make for a much more comfortable and less cramped experience when painting there.
Overall, I love coming here and it's a great way to just relax if you need that "me" time but even better when you bring along friends to gossip with.
