The 11 Best Hotels in Switzerland to Book Now - AFAR

"This indie-spirited, 36-room ski-in/ski-out cluster of six chalets sits at the edge of larch woods above Zermatt and delivers modern, explorer-themed rooms with rough-hewn wooden furnishings, fireplaces and balconies that capture some of the best Matterhorn views. The small, youthful property emphasizes outdoor and wellness experiences—e-bike tours, guided hikes, yoga, Matterhorn training treks and Bhutanese-style medicine baths—and its spa’s 107-degree thermal bath with twin yurts is a favored spot to watch the morning alpenglühen. Cuisine blends traditional Swiss fare with Middle Eastern influences and Italian flair, reflecting the resort’s proximity to Italy." - Adam H. Graham

Wonderful hotel. Fantastic service and really nice rooms. Massage was excellent. Great views. All the the restaurants were very good and the breakfast was superb and included! The concierge was really good and had great recommendations and was very organized. We were there in the summer, it looks like winter is easy too, take an elevator and you are right there at the base of the train that goes up to ski (however I have not tried that. Would definitely stay again. Only complaint would be that the beds were a tad hard.

We absolutely love CERVO! It’s such a special place in the mountains of Zermatt. The food is amazing and full of love, from breakfast to dinner, simply excellent. The yoga room is stunning, and the mountain ashram is unlike anything else, a true sanctuary. We’re already dreaming of coming back.

We chose CERVO for our wedding venue and it was perfect. The events team at CERVO is extremely professional. I was blown away by how seamless everything went and the attentiveness of the service staff. The food was sublime, and the Chef even greeted us and checked on our party to make sure everything was going well! Thank you Benedict, Max, Jonas, and everyone who helped make our event so pleasantly memorable!

So much to say, but I will try to keep it brief. I recently stayed here with my wife and my nine-year-old son to finish off a 11 day summer trip around Switzerland. We could not have picked a better finishing spot to end an already amazing trip. Cervo went beyond our expectations.||Visually, the resort is stunning and unique, which is what I always look for when traveling. It reminded me of mountain villages I have visited in Nepal and Tibet, but with a five star twist. Set high up the mountain and away from the crowds of the town below, this resort is truly a getaway. And you take an elevator to get up there which my kid loved. As soon as we showed up we were greeted by a very attentive staff, and they brought us hot cocoa and some warm towels in the lobby. They were all very helpful throughout our stay. Going there felt like you were escaping the hustle and bustle of the world and that is exactly what we needed.||We had a suite with an insane view of Matterhorn and it was quiet and peaceful at night, which we loved. The suite, like the resort, was decorated with carefully curated artwork, photography and amenities, including a backpack that we borrowed for free for our daytime mountain excursions. The concierge gave us a tour around the hotel and it felt like there was a surprise around every turn with the various passageways that got you from one end of the resort to another. There was even a climbing wall in the building we were in!||The restaurants were excellent— we ate at all three—and the menus were unique and extensive. I only wish we had more days to try more things. The breakfast, which was fully included (and all you can eat!), was particularly unique with the buffet cave that featured some very tasty things, including a juicer with all of the fruits, vegetables and herbs provided. That was really awesome.||The spa was beautiful and serene. The one thing that struck me the most was the yoga room, which is in a figure 8 shape and had this amazing vibe to it, like a secret lounge. The infinity pool was perfect to lounge in with a stellar view of the Matterhorn. And the grounds are, again, so unique with the modern east Asian mountain style and vibe. Also, I had an incredible facial massage with Aleksandra, who also teaches yoga and meditation at the resort. Do not miss an opportunity for her treatment if she is available!||Among the best parts of the resort is the access to trails. The hotel is already at the base of some great hiking and offers immediate access to the funicular that takes you to the top of the mountain, so hiking and biking to, and from the resort is very convenient.||It was also really cool seeing other families there because it gave my son some vacation play friends. I can also see myself taking just my wife back there for a romantic getaway.||Overall, if you want an extremely unique getaway mountain experience in one of the most beautiful places in the world, this resort is the one you should go to. I have traveled to countless countries and stayed at some of the top resorts around the world, and this one easily entered my personal Top 5!

My stay at CERVO Mountain Resort was truly exceptional from start to finish. Everything was perfect – from the seamless check-in to the warm farewell.||The breakfast was a standout: fresh, beautifully presented, and featuring a wide variety of high-quality local and international options. It was the perfect way to start each day while enjoying stunning mountain views.||The staff were outstanding – incredibly attentive, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile. They made me feel genuinely welcome and taken care of throughout my stay.||The location couldn’t be better. Nestled right on the mountain, the resort offers breathtaking views and easy access to both the slopes and the heart of Zermatt. Whether you’re skiing, hiking, or just relaxing, everything you need is right at your doorstep.||I can’t recommend CERVO highly enough – it’s the perfect alpine escape. I’ll definitely be coming back.

If you want a dark and depressing hotel, then Cervo is your place. We checked out this morning and I couldn’t be happier leaving that place. They claim they are a 5 star hotel but they are not, they are a 3 star hotel. We stayed in 5 star hotels all the time, we just stayed at Bauer au Lac in Zurich and Victoria Jungfrau in Interlaken. Those are 5 star hotels. ||Rooms are dark (bedroom is light with good views). Bathroom is so dark, I had to use my cell phone flashlight every time. Living room is useless. Amenities are very weak. Nothing worked properly in the room. Tv didn’t work, we let front desk know but no action. The tablet was not working properly. ||Breakfast included but my God worst breakfast ever. The buffet is in a dark room like a dungeon. You feel like you are having breakfast in jail or captivity. Dark room you can’t even see. Their breakfast items are a joke. I suggest the owners travel to Victoria Jungfrau and have breakfast there and learn a thing or two. 2 sliced apples is NOT considered fruits for breakfast. | |Their Italian restaurant is also bad. It has good views of Matterhorn but our pasta was so al dente we couldn’t eat. ||Staff is amazing. This review does not reflect on anything the staff did. They were kind and accommodating. ||I would not stay there ever again and I will not recommend that hotel. Oh it’s also far from center of the city. It’s a long walk there, about 15 min. I know it doesn’t sound as bad but once you hike for hours and you are dead tired or being on your feet all day then walking uphill for 15 minutes is last thing you want to do.||Wish them luck but please do not market yourself as a 5 star hotel. It’s a 3 star hotel.

Deeply Disappointing Stay — Cervo is Not a 5-Star Experience I stayed at CERVO Mountain Resort in late July for two nights and left feeling extremely let down. I genuinely believe this property should be classified as a 3-star hotel at best. Here’s a breakdown of my experience: 1. Unreliable Transfer and Poor Coordination We had arranged for a hotel pick-up at Zermatt station. Our train was delayed by just 10 minutes—common for the region—yet upon arrival, the driver had already left. We were left stranded in the cold with our luggage, only to be told they were trying to “reach him again.” For a hotel of this supposed caliber, that kind of disorganization is unacceptable. 2. Subpar Dining at Bazaar Restaurant We ordered the “Cervo Burger,” which turned out to be one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. The meat had a gamey, unpleasant flavor that was far below average in quality. When we politely asked for something else (like eggs), the staff refused—even though we had barely touched our food. For a restaurant charging premium prices, the unwillingness to accommodate guests was shocking. 3. Outdated and Unsafe Spa Facilities The spa and sauna, which the hotel boasts about, are in serious need of maintenance. The wooden floors and chairs were loose and unstable, posing safety concerns. You’d expect a wellness-focused resort to prioritize the upkeep of such spaces—it clearly doesn’t. 4. Indifferent and Unhelpful Front Desk Staff The front desk service was uninspired at best. When we asked about renting bikes to explore Zermatt, we were brushed off with disinterest. The staff gave us curt, one-word answers, making it seem like any request was a burden. The lack of hospitality was glaring. 5. Shockingly Rude Bar Staff Perhaps the most jarring moment came at the bar. I requested Clase Azul tequila, only to have the bartender laugh and sarcastically remark that I “probably can’t afford it.” Whether meant as a joke or not, it was deeply unprofessional and insulting. No guest should be spoken to that way in any setting, let alone a supposed luxury resort. ⸻ In Summary Cervo appears focused on aesthetics and marketing, but fails in what matters most: genuine hospitality, guest satisfaction, and quality service. The staff are unwilling to go the extra mile, the food is mediocre, and the facilities are worn. This was not a matter of high expectations—it was a matter of basic standards not being met. I don’t write this out of malice, but out of a responsibility to be honest for future travelers. There are far better options in Zermatt that treat guests with the dignity and service one should expect—this, unfortunately, is not one of them.

Yelp
We normally stop here for a little aprés after skiing and have such a great time. I really enjoy the cervo fries and burger. They've always got fun music playing and there's even a little play area for kiddos. Writing this review for the spa though. I was gifted a massage/spa experience for my birthday and WOW! There was so much to do, I could've stayed all day. We started in the quiet room yurts and had some tea and a bit of trail mix. Then, headed to the outdoor onsen that overlooks the Matterhorn before heading to our massages. Mike was awesome and is a trained osteopath. He helped to work out all the kinks from a week of skiing. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Interesting but could be better. Excellent location at the end of runs 1 and 2. Apres at the outdoor bar is chaotic. Music is live band or dj. Lively but crowded. They smoke freely here which is a no for me. Dinner notes below. Service is unfortunately slow. They seem to be understaffed. It took several requests to get water and pita refills. Setting is dark and eclectic. Wine selection is solid. Mezze to start, with pita chips, hummus and eggplant as standouts. Kofte was interesting but the tabbouleh had a disconcerting consistency. The Korean fried chicken was too salty and sweet. The eggplant curry was a hit and happened to be a massive portion. Fries were pedestrian.

Yelp
I stayed here for a week during a retreat. Great location in Zermatt. Obviously close to the Matterhorn, the town, everything you would want while still being peaceful, and not in the hustle and bustle. Things to know are that there is no air conditioning, it's Switzerland so that's how it is. One of the restaurants is heavily Lebanese food, so if that's not your thing, you will want to go to the other one or eat elsewhere. The breakfast is very good And there are lots of options. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are nice and include a backpack and things you want to use while you were here. But again, if you come in the summer, no air-conditioning. One day we went to the lake area that is also operated by the resort. Nice place to hang out, do some standing paddle, and relax on our last full day here. I also got a massage at the spa and the treatment and facilities were great. The Wi-Fi at the resort is also pretty good so that is a plus. It is a nice place, convenient, and would stay here again if I were in Zermatt!

Yelp
My review is for the restaurant only, not the hotel One of the most popular places to lounge in Zermatt, always crowded, very pricey, service is NOT good . What can I say? Hyped place The waiters were quite rude. We came down from slopes to have some drinks and probably to snack on something or eat, but after attitude they were giving us, we decided not to order any food, just drinks . They brought our drinks with such nasty faces , and attitude. Horrible Horrible service. They know they will have many customers anyway, so they don't care about service. It's a shame.

Yelp
Overpriced and over-hyped. Got a Michelin mention so made a reservation. Asked if we wanted to sit outside for the Matterhorn views for dinner. Easy yes. Then half hour later, told we had to go inside to be able to eat dinner. So we moved. Then had dinner (burned my pinkie badly on a dish I wasn't warned about, asked for ice three times, didn't get any...) and then we were asked to move back outside to the bar where we started so they could give the table to someone else for dinner...oddly the restaurant wasn't full at all, plenty of open tables, manager and servers yelling and arguing with cooking staff...food taste didn't make up for horribly unpleasant experience....definitely do NOT recommend unless you want to play "musical table" while trying to have dinner....if the food was good, this would've been worth the trouble but unfortunately this place had no redeeming qualities.

Yelp
Unfortunately, CERVO was fully booked so our family could not stay there, but I wanted to share a review of the fabulous evening we had at dinner. We ate at Bazaar and absolutely loved it. The bread is to die for. We also loved the Dim Sum: Shiitake Mushrooms and Roasted Cauliflower were the favorites. Our waiter was so fun and kind- we loved visiting with him and he took very good care of us. We missed the view since it was dark when we arrived, but - just a good reason to return:). If you are visiting Zermatt.... first try to stay here (we will book earlier next year); and second - 100% book a reservation and eat at Bazaar.

Yelp
Genuine love for something can create truly amazing things. For the owners of CERVO, it is the love for nature and outdoors. That theme is evident in every carefully crafted piece of this gorgeous property and being a guest here is very much a privilege. The arrival was welcomed with a view of the majestic Matterhorn right from the steps of the entrance. Next, being seated on a comfortable sofa, introduced to the property and given a welcome glass of sparkling wine. CERVO is rustic and adds a lot to the spirit of Zermatt's traditional architecture, some of it original and some of it, like CERVO, much much newer. The rooms are tastefully and uniquely appointed, with an interesting element of cloth walls that I have not seen anywhere before. All the amenities in the room are there for comfort and to blend in with its natural environment. The highlight is the sauna with a window and view inside every chalet. It is empty and quite private. After a day in the woods, it is hard to rival that. Then, there is the breakfast restaurant. Prepare to taste lots and lots of different regional cheeses that likely few have heard of before outside of the area. There is a solid menu of selections. The lunch osso bucco was excellent. The people working here are young, yet surprisingly well skilled at what they do. Kind, helpful and go above and beyond. CERVO is simply perfect. It is cozy and special, being a guest here is really a privilege.

Yelp
If 6 stars was an option Cervo earns it. Customer Service is outstanding, amenities are abundant and rooms are so nice. Arriving by train they had a shuttle waiting for our party the moment we got off. Called ahead for this and it worked. Was at hotel no problem in 10 mins. Would be a long walk without that service. At check, one of the friendliest people ever took us to deck for a drink and hotel/Zermatt orientation. Great touch. We stayed for a wedding and was blown away at the attention to detail the wedding party received Owner even was present to ensure things went well. Caution, you get breakfast included so don't miss that. We were unaware our first day and regret missing it. Used Cervo hiking backpacks so you don't have to bring your own if you are a casual hiker. Location right at the train up the hill to ski lifts. Next time would totally mountain bike or kick bike down the mountain since it's so close. A Spa is located in each Chalet to avoid crowds. Guessing it'd be a good way to end a day on the slopes. Will say some rooms can be a little small. Others in party got a room with only 1 window to outside by way of a patio door. Was cramped but also wasn't overly expensive for Zermatt and thats saying something because everything there is expensive! Cheers Cervo! We already want to come back.

Yelp
I went here for a friend's very intimate wedding and was thoroughly impressed. Their rehearsal dinner was outside on a patio and the food was very good. We also did a gin tasting in their wine room with 5 types of gin, all of which were outstanding. The ceremony was done outside on a patio with the Matterhorn in the background which looked beautiful. We had the reception in their restaurant and the food and service were impeccable. A wonderful hotel to do a special event at.

Yelp
Really enjoyed spending a week at this friendly, chic and well located hotel. Sandra and the others on crew were all awesome. Wish I could have stayed longer to make more use of the facilities or at least sample some of the highly acclaimed restaurants but we were skiing constantly and dining at a lot of acclaimed outside places.
