The Best Indian Restaurants Around San Jose and the South Bay | Eater SF

"A simple establishment with multiple locations across the Bay Area, Chaat House offers another selection of quick and delightful snacks. Stop in to sample one of many griddle fried breads stuffed with radish greens, paneer, or onions; the seasonal makkai roti made with corn; and sarsoon saag made with mustard greens. The restaurant also offers a pre-fixe style thali to make easy work of picking through the large menu." - Nandita Godbole

We tried most of the dishes in our previous visits. The quality of the food is good. The service is quick. Recently, we had Raj kachori and Vada Pav. The Raj kachori is very good. The vada pav is on the sweeter side. I usually prefer the less sweet in vada pav. Note - I feel the prices are a bit high.

We have been coming to Chaat House in Bellevue for years, and it has become so much more than just a restaurant. It truly feels like our second home. After long, tiring days, walking in here brings an instant sense of comfort. The food tastes like it has been made with love, and the warmth we feel every time we visit is something we will always be grateful for. Kumar, Nirvair, and Shelly have become part of our lives in the most genuine and unexpected way. They greet us with the same care and kindness every time, making each visit feel personal and special. It is not just the incredible food that brings us back. It is the feeling of being welcomed like family. Chaat House is not just a place we eat at. It is a place that is filled with love, memories, and people who have become family to us. We are truly thankful for everything this place has given us over the years.

Chaat House in Seattle serves up flavorful, authentic Indian street food in a casual, no-frills setting. The chaat options are tangy, spicy, and satisfying, with bold flavors that hit the spot. Favorites like pani puri, samosa chaat, and pav bhaji are fresh and well-seasoned. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. It’s a great place for a quick, tasty bite if you're craving classic Indian snacks and comfort food.

Ordered chole bhature, mooli paratha and bhel puri between two of us - portion sixes are enormous and it proved to be way too much food for us. The bhel puri and chole bhature were really nice and flavorful. I can imagine coming back for these. The mooli paratha on the other hand was just ok - I can’t quite pinpoint what was wrong with it, but it wasn’t what I expected (and I usually love mooli paratha). Service was fairly quick but I imagine things will slow down once it gets busy.

Really amazing and authentic indian food. Also proven by many guest of this culture. The spices are awesome. Meals are affordable. The environment is not necessarily suitable for a fancy or romantic dinner, except you are into minimalism. Very friendly staff.

Google
Delicious food, fairly fast service. Many options for everyone to get something. We ordered many things but their paneer parotha and samosa pau were standout. Highly recommend anyone looking for good vegetarian food.

Google
A Disappointing Experience at Chaat House I recently visited Chaat House with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. The food was subpar and didn't even come close to the authentic taste of Indian cuisine that I've grown to love. It was like they took all the flavor and excitement out of the dishes. But what really took the cake was the behavior of the staff at the register. They seemed completely uninterested in providing good customer service, which was disappointing and unprofessional. And after taking order at 9:25PM saying that you must leave at 10:00 PM. To fan the flames. When you treat customers poorly, it's hard to build a loyal following. If you're a food enthusiast like me, I'd recommend giving Chaat House a hard pass. There's a lot of potential for great Indian food, but this place just didn't deliver. Until they revamp their menu and staff training, I'd suggest looking elsewhere for your Indian cuisine fix.

Google
Excellent place for people looking for only vegetarian as well as tasty food in Seattle. We enjoyed Samosa Chaat, Vada Pav, Aloo Paratha and Choley Poori. We found Raj Kachori ok. We also had delicious Mango Lassi and a good Chai. Must visit place, especially for Indians looking for only Veg options as it is an uncommon thing here in USA.

Yelp
Went back here after ages and am pleased to say it's as good as ever. The raj kachori chaat and papdi chaat were amazing. So were the parathas and chole bhature. Delicious food and quick service. Highly recommend!

Yelp
2.10.25 I visited Chaathouse in Bellevue, WA, and had a great experience. The paneer curry was flavorful and perfectly spiced, and the samosas were crispy and delicious. The restaurant offers a great variety of Indian food, and everything we tried was fresh and tasty. The service was friendly and efficient, making our dining experience great. Restaurant was clean and very organized. Their Chai tea was also yummy. I highly recommend Chaathouse for anyone craving authentic Indian!

Yelp
Chaat house has never disappointed me. It's my favorite place to get North Indian food or do takeouts from. They have a great variety of kulchas, parathas, and thalis. I've tried many of them and have always loved it. The food is always fresh and hot. I've literally tried everything on their menu. Their Masala Pav, Vada Pav, Ragda Pattis and kulchas are a must try. The ambience isn't anything fancy and there's no service. You've to pick your food once it's ready. But, absolutely great food!

Yelp
Dahi Poori Pav Bhaji Ragda Patties After exploring a lot of options here these are my favorite and go to here ! The Pav Bhaji is probably one of the best in the area. And so are the ragda patties The service is usually pretty quick but it could get busy specifically on the weekends. Casual ambiance with great variety of chat options I haven't liked the Thalis here a lot, but these chaat options are pretty great !

Yelp
It's a place in a big shopping area, which has a lot of restaurants, grocery stores, etc. So parking is not a problem. Decor is very low key and cleanliness needs lot of work. Well crowded when we went. They have kiosks and QR code for ordering food. We had ordered Raj Kachori, Bhel puri, for appetizers. Both were good and a lot of quantity. More on sweeter notes, though. The main course we had ordered Anapurna thali came with salad, dal, aloo mattar, malai paneer sides with plain rice, roti, yogurt, and dessert. Rice was a little dry, but the rest were ok. Paneer parantha was huge it came with onion, pickle, and yogurt. We had to use more picle to compensate as it has lirrle less seasoning. Pickle given was way less, which is understandable. When asked for more, they gave one, and when asked for more, they want to charge me a dollar!. This pickle they were serving were store bought, and they cost a few bucks for a huge pack. They are so generous with their portions, but they want to hold out on condiments, so shameful. Chole batura, there were 2 huge baturas. The biggest i have seen in any restaurant is well made and taste good. But the chole was not proportionate with the batura. In short, cheap good food, cleanliness needs a lot of effort, and being unpolite to give condiments needed is a big .

Yelp
We went in here not expecting much. But this place served some really nice Indian street food. We ordered chole bhature, sev puri, pav bhaji, and a thali. And everything tasted great. The sev puri and pav bhaji were the best. The service was quick and the place looked like a legit Indian restaurant inside (iykyk). We had a lovely meal full of flavor at Chaat House.
google avatar

Damini A.

Yelp
Its our go to place for having north indian food- specially kadi chawal and anapurna thali! Its definitely comfort food with good service and loads of sitting space. I am not a fan of the paneer in the anapurna thali as it's on the sweeter side. But I usually replace the paneer with some other curry of my choice- and love the entire combo. The dessert is usually extra sweet for me- and would appreciate if they could tone down the sweetness in it.
google avatar

Gagan G.

Yelp
The is always really good even though it is never consistent. The Chole bhatura degi early stole the show and so did the veg Manchurian. The Amritsari kulacha was also amazing. The only thing bad about the experience was the noodles. We come here so often that's we already know that the haka noodles are always a hit or miss. Also the raj kachori always is amazing :)
google avatar

Ankit S.

Yelp
I have ordered from chaat house many times, my staples are amritsari kulcha or annapurna thali. The kulcha is super tasty and served with white butter, the thali is ok-ish in taste depending upon the day. Some days it tastes great, some days it tastes pretty meh (especially the cabbage salad they make sometimes is so bad). I have also had saag and makki ki roti and South Indian dosas, those were amazing too. If you dine in, be sure to grab a table. Most weekends its crowded but the tables move fast since it really is Indian fast food. Not much in terms of ambiance, but its clean and comfortable with many tables and self service. Overall its a decently priced place for Indian fare which makes me keep coming back. Removed 1 star for inconsistent food in thali.
google avatar

Kamal S.

Yelp
I must say the food has gotten even better! We came here after a trip to India and were super happy it felt like we were having chaat in India. We've had the kulchas, paranthas, and this time had the dahi puri (SPDP, my husband taught me) and the Ragda Patties. Both were fresh and flavorful, fulfilling our cravings. There was a little wait but over all the service was good. Overall, I'd come back for more. Happy eating!
google avatar

Shyamala Lakshmi B.

Yelp
Food was mediocre - I would give 3.5 stars for that. It is self service , so there is nothing to be said about that. Ambience - mediocre. The rest room was stinking and I wanted to throw up.
google avatar

Sindu K.

Yelp
Quick and inexpensive place to go to if you are craving for some Indian food. The ambiance is like a casual fast food joint. The staff is nice and responsive. The place can get crowded on Friday evening afterwards and over the weekends. The reason I took off two stars is because while some items here taste great, the rest some aren't that great. My ratings for the dishes I have tried so far. Samosa - 10/10 Chaat - 4/10 Anapurna thali - 5/10 Parathas - 8/10 Aloo poori - 7/10 Gobi machurian - 6/10 There is a lot of free parking available in the complex. Will update my review after I try out more dishes.

Keerthi G.

Yelp
Worst quality of food. No taste and everything tasted stale. Not recommended at all. The restaurant also lacks cleanliness and hygiene.
google avatar

Aditya P.

Yelp
One liner: expect $10-15 per person for a quick snack. Decent at everything. The food at Chaat house is fine. I say fine because it's not that great by Indian street food standards. Having said that, if you are craving Chaat food, you have few options on the Eastside. On three different occasions, I had to wait more than 15 mins for my order. I don't think they go in a first in first out order. Mostly self service and folks on the other side of the counter are not very welcoming at times. The restaurant is mostly clean except when it gets crowded and I find the washrooms aren't as hygienic. Overall ambience is not something to yearn for. I almost prefer take-out from this restaurant. Depending on what I am ordering.

Richa V.

Yelp
The food was very flavorful and tasty! The service was fast and reliable. The vibes inside screamed Indian culture, along with the Bollywood songs in the background. only thing would be the spice, SOME ITEMS ARE VERY SPICY. Be sure to request your desired spice level!

Yelp
Update: My husband (who is Indian) ordered a raj kachori, and it was sour as well. He said that the dahi (yogurt) went bad, and they should have stopped serving yogurt for the day. Not only that, but they're not sending out orders consecutively. Several people who ordered after us got their food before us. Don't think we'll come back here any time soon. Original review: Got a mango lassi. Normally Mano Lassi is sweet. This one was very sour! When we asked the guy at the counter, he didn't seem to care and said it's supposed to be sour. Let me tell you that I usually order mango Lassi at Indian/Nepali restaurants and I know what they should taste like - and this isn't it. Very disappointed. :/
google avatar

Renee M.

Yelp
I used to love coming to this place for their hakka noodles but looks like either their chef changed or they had a bad day. The noodles were stale (they weren't cooked fresh), had lots of soy sauce and white pepper. Sadly I had to throw it in the garbage. The price has increased. It used to be $10 and now it's for $15. Also the quantity is less than before. I understand it's tough for businesses so the price rise is justified but please take care of quality. That shouldn't suffer.
google avatar

Yelp
Aaloo paratha, paneer paratha and gobi paratha is a must try! Kachori and aaloo ki sabji is good too however it's not available always. Quick service! Parking available.
google avatar

Yelp
Ambience (2/5) - Casual Fast Food Concept. The table might be dirty as it's self service. Food - Chili Garlic Noodles (5/5) *New on menu*- I highly recommend chowmein. It's exactly like Indian street food with powerful spice and flavor. DEFINITELY TRY IT!! Dahi Puri (4/5) - liked the green and imli chutney Amritsari Kulcha (3.5/5) - Kulcha was good. However, the chole was a bit disappointing. Gobi Paratha (2/5) - too oily, the stuffing was less. Will definitely go back for chowmein!

Yelp
Delicious authentic and vegetarian Indian served FAST! Prices were decent and everything tasted amazing. Spice levels are good too for those like me who can't really handle all that much spice haha. It was a noisier eatery but that's either a pro or con and to each either own. I loved that it felt so alive, with grandparents, children, and friends all gathered around to share yummy meals. Pros: * decent price * delicious food * food came out super fast! Barely any wait at all, speedy service. * all options are vegetarian * decent spice levels Cons: * louder restaurant (but that adds to the ambiance and energy!)

Yelp
Highly recommend the paneer roll! Amazing mix of Indo chinese that's hard to beat in Seattle
google avatar

Aasawari N.

Yelp
I've ordered both takeout and dine in from Chaat House. Things that I have tried: * Shezuan Noodles. This is off their Indochinese menu. I prefer these to Hakka as they have more flavour. The portion was large and it lasted 1.5 meals for me. * Annapurna Thali. It was OK. I usually like thali because I can get a variety of things in smaller quantity for the price of one dish. I would avoid this one though as it was not too impressive. * Mango Lassi. This was bottled and served to me right away after ordering so I did not have to wait. But, it was sour. Please avoid this. If you must have some Mango Lassi - go to Mayuri Sweets/Mayuri Bakery nearby as their mango lassi is definitely superior. * Samosa Chaat. It was decent. The chaat portion was awesome as usual. The samosa itself was decent but it felt smaller compared to Aloo Tikki option. * Aloo Tikki Chaat. Might be the superior option to Samosa Chaat? Might need to try again. * Chole Bhature. The quantity of chole compared to the bhature was too less. Chole finished right away with bhature left over. It has a sister store with similiar branding that focuses on Dosa called Dosa House nearby. There's not really any other restaurants like this with the awesome variety of menu. You're mainly going for the food and not the service since it's more cafeteria style. So takeout is a good option too.

Yelp
My gosh! This place is an Indian vegetarian food lovers' dream come true! So grateful to a stranger who recommends this gem to us. The place was packed to the brim. It was organized chaos, hehe. We were lucky to find a seat. My husband placed our order, and the food arrived one at a time. The first to arrive was the noodles and fried rice. The first bite of each and I was in love. Both had the wok hey I always look for, and both were delicious. Pani poori and bhelpuri was delicious too. My husband was in heaven as he got to eat Saag and Makki roti after so long. He enjoyed each bite. Both the mango lassi and chikkoo shake was so good too. If we ever go back to Seattle, we are definitely dining here again. Loved this experience so much.
google avatar

Hong T.

Yelp
Service is always fast and the aloo tikki chaat always makes it into my order. The textures and flavors of the chaat make it one of my comfort foods. The people are friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Yelp
The Indian Snacks and Bread destination for us. We love their Parathas mainly the Paneer Parathas. The Parathas are soft and they come with pairing of Yogurt, Butter and Mixed pickle. We also ordered Dahi Bhalla chaat. This is a potato patty in a yogurt gravy mixed with vegetables. They also have our favorite Chiku Shake which comes in bottles now.

Yelp
Went to Bellevue on visit and went to this shop for a quick bite . Perfect Punjabi chaat house . Was really awesome ! Chola Poori was superbbbbbbbb.. amazingly spicy and tasty ... samosa chaat was also good . Ragda pattys was average . Patties were a bit raw . Could have fried a little more .. Punjabi restaurant and we made a mistake ordering chilly paneer . I would recommend not to order any Chinese / non Punjabi dishes ! It was very normal .. dahi Paapdi chaat was average too ! Overall a good experience though. Thumbs up
google avatar

Pratima M.

Yelp
A solid spot for chaat in the Bellevue area -- my friend and I were craving some classic Indian food and this hit the spot. It was really easy to order over phone and pick up in store. I got the dahi poori and samosa chaat to share and loved both! The samosa chaat was super tasty and the channa really good. The dahi chaat was also really amazing -- my only complaint is that they mixed in the dahi beforehand so by the time I got home it was soggy, so just make sure to mention you want it on the side! My friend got the pav bhaji and that curry was really tasty too!
google avatar

Nari N.

Yelp
Very good! I'm not Indian so can't speak to the authenticity but here's how I would rate the items we tried. Gobi Manchurian (cauliflower) 9/10 so so good! Chili Paneer 7/10 good but I've had better Hakka Noodles 8/10 - tasted very "asian" to me like Panda Express noodles but better. Naan (garlic/butter) 7/10 both good but I've had better Prices are amazing! Large portions for under $10 (Nov 2021) We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Kishi M.

Yelp
Updating rating for this business. They have vastly improved the quality of their food and in recent visits their food has been really good.. We tried Alloo Poori, Pani Puri and Masala Lassi and they were all really delicious...
google avatar

Utkarsh J.

Yelp
Chaat House is the definition of "F-it, Ship it." As long as they complete your order(even if it's delayed by 30 mins or trickling with oil), they will consider their job done. The items on the menu are prepared in the authentic Indian way, which is admirable, but that also means that they flood all food in oil and make it super spicy. Many of the chaat menu items are overpriced; the quantity you get is nowhere close to defending the price you pay. The establishment is stingy with portion sizes. Bigger things, like the Paneer Paratha or Chole Bhature, are among the good ones you will find in the Redmond-Bellevue area. They do come with their fair share of problems: the side bowls and condiments given will be in frugal sizes, and asking for extra is going to cost you. The drinks, too, have the same problem: overpriced and watered down. But that being said, their sister restaurant: Dosa House, is a lot better and would be a better bang for the buck, even though they only specialize in South Indian food. There aren't many chaat places in the area, so you are tied to the minimal options. Chaat Items: 2/5 Entree Items: 3/5 Cleanliness: 2/5 Overall: 2.5/5

Yelp
This is place I recommend everyone to visit and the one who's pure veggie , don't wait and just go and have some good food , price is good and tasty is like homeland.

Yelp
March 23, 2023 - Went to them to get sweets for a small ritual. Noticed that there was Kalakand sticker on the glass but no sweets so just inquired about it. Was told they have it in the kitchen. Took two boxes of Kalakand of 1lb. I come home to find fungus on those sweets. Really appalled and disappointed. At least for heath safety, they should check their food.

Ken F.

Yelp
Excellent food, always busy, and for a reason. Servings are quite large, easy to over-oder. Great for the next day if you do!
google avatar

Soumya C.

Yelp
Food was ok ... not good not bad. Owners and servers were friendly.place was neat and clean.
google avatar

Karan D.

Yelp
I guess the owner/management doesn't care about wearing mask or gloves. Apparently they don't even care if some of their customers don't have masks on. Around 10 people working in a kitchen and only 1 have a mask on and she isn't also covering her nose. I'm sure their food tastes good, but I'm disappointed in their covid-19 related safety measures.
google avatar

Meenakshi M.

Yelp
The quality of food has declined over time. We used to love the paranthas at Chaat house. The parantha size has reduced keeping the price same and the quality has gone down too. You can smell the bad oil when eating. Avoid this place until they work on the quality.
google avatar

Tannu S.

Yelp
The papdi chat served here is the closest version of a bhalla papdi chat we get in India. Reminded me of what I was missing all this time. They have added a soft bhalla on top of crispy papdi soaked in yogurt and mint and tamarind chutney sprinkled onions (in India there were fresh pomegranate seeds instead), some boiled potato and chickpeas, which is exactly how one would get on Delhi streets. Sometimes I had gone to the length of making all the items to satiate my cravings of Indian street food. A gem I have found at a 4 hour drive distance, which I am sure I will be doing more often as cooking these items to perfection takes longer than that. If you want to eat Indian street food, visit this place. It is the street food place I was looking for all this time. PS- their North Indian flavors are much better and authentic, so don't try the non-north dishes as they are not so authentic.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
I can't believe it, I told the guy at the counter that I wanted the lunch special and that I couldn't eat dairy, he said that's fine I'll give you this that and something else. I should have checked before leaving, but they effectively just REMOVED the things that had dairy and didn't sub in anything else. So I paid 10.99 +tax/tip (13.50 or so) for what you see the in the picture which looks to be about HALF of a lunch special. Definitely ask and check your orders. The guy made it seem like there was plenty he could do to accommodate. I always believe that if you take something away from a customer that I'd be regularly paying for, you should replace it with something else or equal value.

Smrithi S.

Yelp
My husband was recently craving paratha and we decided to pick up dinner from Chaat House. We got Aloo paratha, I got Chole bhatura. I like their Chole bhatura, the Aloo paratha was good, the negative being some spots were lacking filling. We also picked up Gulab Jamun while waiing for our order to be ready. Another negative in these times, there were too many people inside the restaurant waiting for their order that maintaining 6ft was not possible (only one of us went in to pick up the food).
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Always drive by here and its always packed! Finally got the chance to check out the food today- cashier was friendly, it was hard for us to order since we had no idea what is what, asked for most popular dish which was the first one on the menu, we also got the garlic naan - i could eat this garlic bread every meal every day, so fresh. There was a little wait until we get our food, you could get water from the utensils station, plenty seats for a Thursday night. Curry dishes were a little spicy, some were more spicy than other. I don't think you can adjust the spiciness. Not sure what the white dish was... anyone knows? The tiny desert/cake had a strong perfume taste, maybe too herbal for me. Overall loved the curry flavor! I wish they would use more recycled paper plates - their plate box seemed like plastic. 5% off if you use cash!
google avatar

Nishad K.

Yelp
It's a shame!...this restaurant has gone bad over years so. Even worse, the masked-to-chin wearing front staff knows and doesnt seem to care. 1. They dont enforce king county vaccination norms or wear masks over the nose...their chins well protected though. 2. They still serve food in styrofoam or paper plates for dine in 3.The tables are not cleaned between two service. They randomly clean it. 4. The sauces are too salty for chaat and dont even get me started in flatulence u suffer later... ;P...dont go on date after having this food :) We had parathas with a bug under it and they said this happens and laughed. One other time they gave us a quarter piece of paratha less and suspected we ate it... (whatt...!...haha) Parathas and bhature are still good...but wud u risk all above for that...U decide :)
google avatar

Yelp
Update about last night's order- Firstly the place has zero hygiene. There were just 4 people working who didn't wear any masks, its alarming with the COVID outbreak. There was no sanitizer anywhere in the restaurant. Few of them didn't cover the hair mask too. Secondly the food wasn't in a good condition as my husband and I have a bad tummy pain. We have eaten at Chaat house many times, never had this problem though. I don't think I would like to order from these guys anytime soon unfortunately.

Yelp
Great spot to get a quick delicious bite in Bellevue. The Chole Bhatura with Channa Masala is a go to.
google avatar

Neetu C.

Yelp
Have been meaning to try this place - walked in this evening and cafeteria style seating was about 1/3rd filled. The staff was polite and took my order immediately. Seemed like most popular thing people were ordering was Annapurna thali - so went with that. Nice variety of sabzi and daal, 2 rotis, rice and sweets. For the price I would say it was tasty and good sized portion. Will come back during day to try out some snacks! By time got done eating the hall was pretty full, lively place.
google avatar

Li H.

Yelp
I enjoyed the Samosa Chaat for the most part, but I felt it could have been much tastier! And I couldn't taste the tamarind chutney, if there was any in the first place. The level of spice was fine. Honestly i could go for just the samosa. Chikoo Shake - Very sweet, but not especially tasty or creamy. I mean, it's decent, but it kind of just tastes like a light and slightly watery vanilla shake. Sweets - Pretty good. I'm interested in trying the others. But they could really use a strong tea to pair with... it's too sweet for my taste. I like that the staff are quite separated from the customers, and they were very polite and quick with my order. I'm not sure if I came on a good day, but unlike in other reviews, staffs were wearing masks. They could use better markings for social distancing, since all the take-out folks were kind of just roaming the floor.

Hira W.

Yelp
There was hair in our daal, and everything else tasted really not good. We also got the badam burfi, it tasted old and was very hard. Not coming back here.
google avatar

Raj S.

Yelp
Got the channa batura today. Quite good! Too much batura as each plate has 2. I was stuffed with 1.5, done with channa. My friends enjoyed their dishes as well. Surprised by low ratings... will return. Chikoo shake was great as well, comes in a large bottle. -1 star for Styrofoam use for dine-in. Surprised it's not banned.

Yelp
Amazing Indian restaurant with good food choices and tastes great. Their parathas and chole/Bhatura are amazing.

Amna A.

Yelp
We came to this place all the way from Tacoma and I must say, such a waste of drive. First off, the seating here is so congested. The cleanliness on top is 2/10. Going back to the food: Pani puri: 7/10 (the water didn't taste good at all). Smosa chat: 3/10 (barely got smosa's but garbanzo beans) Papri chat: 2/10 (I haven't had as worse papri chat as this. The plate only contained papri and weird tasting yogurt). Don't recommend and won't come back.
