"Chachawan serves up Thai food in a modern-yet-rustic, super-cool space, with colorful murals on the walls that give it an elevated street-art vibe, and an open kitchen behind the bar. Chef Adam Lee Cliff and restaurateur Yenn Wong run this hotspot for northeastern-Thailand-inspired Isaan cuisine—a rarity compared to the usual/ubiquitous Thai fare in HK. Their dishes are vetted to be authentic, meaning they do not hold back on spice; be sure to make a special request for milder seasoning if breathing fire isn’t your jam."

Food was really great and the service was really good! Staff were very polite and helpful 😗 The curry chicken 🐔 was very delicious we ordered an extra bowl of rice just for the curry! Yummy! The crab meat fried rice was also really nice, with generous amount of 🦀 meat! The coconut dumplings were surprisingly delicious! Didn’t expect the warm dumplings to taste like that! I haven’t eaten something like this before. It was sweet and salty and chewy at the same time, with warm coconut 🥥 paste at the bottom. It was very nice, I’ll be back for it! However, there wasn’t much space between tables which were a bit packed while having dinner.

Google
Great thai food, bartender was super nice. We would love to come again. I love their curry fish cakes. ( if you are tired to queue for Samsen, come here, can book in advance) better

Google
The food is good, the service is nice, but the price and portion...eh... The tomyum soup, don't get me wrong, is extremely flavorful, but it almost felt disappointing as they put a whole chopped ginger in so the soup feels full. There wasn't much chicken either, probably a normal sized chicken breast. The service was nice and the environment was good, but other than that there's not much to it.

Google
Such great food that we came back twice in a week! Service is fantastic and the food absolutely amazing. Can’t recommend enough.

Great food, friendly server and interesting vibe. The crab meat fried rice was perfectly seasoned and crab meat was juicy and tasty. The portion of the grilled pork collar was big and they were juicy and perfect. The grilled squid salad was well cooked although i didn't find the grill aroma from the squid. Initially, I thought the iced milk tea was too sweet. However, it perfectly balances my taste buds after I tried the spicy and tasteful food. Interesting! The fragrant of sweet melon and the sugar ended the meal perfectly. So good! Will return again.

Very authentic tasting Thai food unlike most Thai restaurants in Hong Kong. You are transported to the streets in Thailand. The signiture whole sea bass is great if you are a party of four. They seen to have a busy stream of takeaway and delivery orders so Chachawan at home might be something to consider as well. Over the years the food quality has been very consistentl, though the price has be creeping up a bit.

I recently dined at a Thai fusion restaurant that offered a pleasant blend of traditional and modern cuisine. The dishes were tasty, with a unique twist on familiar Thai flavors. The restaurant's atmosphere was casual and comfortable, making it a nice place for meeting friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, contributing to an enjoyable dining experience. Overall, it was a good spot for a casual meal and a chat with friends.

Yelp
One of the best Thai food place in hk. We come here everyone we visited hk and it never disappoints. They don't get enough credit for the food.

Yelp
My friend brought me here for lunch and I think it's a great deal for what you get. $138 includes 1 dish from the main menu and 1 from the desert menu. If you don't want to eat dessert you can get two mains each which is what we did. Portions are small, but each and every dish was flavorful and had heat; we requested spicy which was pretty spicy but I cooled it down with a Thai iced tea. We ordered: Som Dtum (pounded green papaya salsas, cherry tomatoes, chili, dried shrimp and peanuts with sweet and sour tamarind dressing). This was my favorite dish. The green papaya was crunchy which added texture to a slightly sweet and spicy dish. Larp Moo (mixed salad of chopped pork, pork skin, shallots, spring onions, mint and spicy and sour toasted rice and chili dressing served with iceberg lettuce). This also had lots of flavor and did not disappoint. Pad Ka Prao Kai (stir fried minced chicken and basil, Thai garlic, chili, pepper, spicy sauce) I also enjoyed this. I'm always a fan of basil and garlic so this simple dish hit the spot. Yum Makaur Yaw (salad of smoked grilled eggplant, shallots, coriander and mint with fish sauce, lime juice and chili dressing, served with a soft boiled egg and prawn floss. Unfortunately for us we forgot to tell them no coriander (cilantro) and I could not taste any other flavors except for the coriander. I also ordered sticky rice and that went well with all the dishes. I must come back at dinner and try more dishes.

Yelp
Met up with an old university buddy and he suggested we check out Chachawan. From what I've read, it's a popular hipster spot with no reservations. But they do specialize in Issam (Northern Thailand) food. We dropped in on a late Tuesday afternoon (around 1:00pm) and the place was packed. My buddy was running late so I sat at the bar and waited for a table to open up. Barman wasn't too friendly and didn't ask me if I wanted a drink so I didn't get one. Food comes out incredibly fast. The lunch menu is short and sweet. The Chacha lunch special ($138 HKD) includes two dishes (mains or sweets), a drink (Thai iced tea or coffee) and rice (steamed jasmine or Thai sticky rice). We did two of the specials. - 2x Thai iced teas - not too sweet. Wish the size was bigger. - 2x Thai sticky rice - in the traditional baskets. Good portion. - Gai yung - chicken thigh marinated and grilled till crispy in Thai garlic, pepper and coriander. - Larp moo - mixed salad of chopped pork, pork skins, shallots, spring onions, mint and spicy/sour toasted rice and chili dressing served with iceberg lettuce. - Moo tort ta krai - deep fried sliced pork with lemongrass, coriander root, garlic, salt and pepper. - Pak poong fai mai dang - stir-fried morning glory with Thai garlic, chili and yellow beans. Everything was tasty and flavourful. Portions look small but this was more than enough food for the both of us. Good spot for lunch.

Yelp
First off, really good service. The food is really good! I love thai food and this was right on point. There are vegetarian dishes and some can be made vegetarian and some dished are even gluten free. Beware: if something is marked spicy- it is! Grilled squid was the best I've ever had Papaya salad was delicious Drinks are awesome Desserts are delicious- take the ice cream guti - fresh young coconut ice cream with peanuts and corn! I did not like one of the dishes I ordered and they didn't charge me for it and I don't take that for granted. (It was the marinated chicken) Really quick service and very accommodating! Central location and everyone speaks English (: Highly recommend if you are in Hong Kong and crave some Thai food!

Yelp
The place is known for Thai cuisine, came here with 3 other friends on a Monday night. They don't take reservations and only seat you when your party has fully arrived. They have a bar area where you can wait and order a drink though. Bottled beer is on the menu, your local Tsingtao is $50 HKD. Saigon beer is $55 HKD. They also have in-house margaritas and cocktails, going from $80-120 per glass. The food is good for sharing, so we ordered about 6 dishes between the 4 of us. The Good: BBQ pork,or skewered pork - they slice is up and serve on a wood plate, this is by far my favourite. It's cooked to perfect, and seasoned nicely, not too salty and enough to make it tasty to go with your sticky jasmine rice or by itself. They also have a side sauce but I find it tastes better without it. Lettuce wrap w/ spicy pork - Similar peking duck style but the spicy pork is grounded and stir fried with other things. The spice level is about 2/5 and is just right for me. The lettuce adds a crunchy texture to the meat and is also good for sharing. Signature dish: Sea bass, it's a large fish, it will fill 2 people up for sure. For 4, we all got to try some. Comes with a spicy chili pepper sauce, I tried it but didn't it. The fish itself is already seasoned with lemongrass and basil so it has flavour. It's very good actually, despite looking very fried on the outside. It's not tough meat and tastes mild with the herbs, and tender. What I didn't like: Papaya Salad - this was made with fresh payaya, bean sprouts, tomatoes, chili peppers, garlic. Too spicy and too much going on at once in terms of flavour. Gai Yung Chicken - way too salty, sauce overkill. It comes on a wood plate, 2 filets of chicken. Covered in their sauce, which is sweet and salty. Would not recommend this. Overall, I gave it 4 stars because of the atmosphere, the existence of an actual bar, and some very memorable and delicious food. Good for a casual night out!

Yelp
Excellent service and delicious food. What else do you need in a restaurant?? Drinks I guess and they have a nice bar with a good selection of cocktails. They also have happy hour specials. I wanted to try one of everything on the menu. I'll be back...

Yelp
The place has a cool vibe.. Friendly and attentive staff. And the food is delicious! We really enjoyed the moo ping ( BBQ pork with spicy sauce ) very filling. We also ordered the tiger prawns.. they were good but on the quantity is on the lesser side. Overall experience is very good!! 4.8/5

Yelp
Being half Thai, I generally hate eating Thai food in Hong Kong - most dishes are over thickened with coconut cream and everything is just a touch too sweet. On top of that, nobody seems to pay attention to the fact that Thai cuisine extends beyond tom yum soup and green curry. However, Chachawan is the exception. The chef whips up Issan food which hails from the North of Thailand and is generally eaten with the hands... although this is optional at Chachawan! Always packed at dinner time, the lunch set is a fantastic deal. For $118 per person you get a choice of a drink and two authentic Issan dishes with either jasmine or sticky rice. Ever homesick for my mama's cooking, I always opt for the sticky rice and a delicious Thai iced tea which is considerately served with an eco-friendly paper straw. The dinner menu offers a larger selection of dishes with spice featuring heavily in most. The vibe is funky and the restaurant is always packed with patrons spilling into the street with cocktails in hand. On that topic, the cocktails are inventive and fun with outrageous names such as the Bloody Sex Change. Dinner for two is around the $500 mark and is always a hoot with a trendy crowd guaranteed.

Yelp
deserves the praise it gets as the flavors are spot on. Gai Yung- chicken thigh marinated for 24 hours in garlic, pepper, coriander, grilled till crispy, served with jhim jaw (the awesome mildly sweet pungently tangy tamarind based sauce) great skin and juicy on the inside, minus the bones Nahm Ntok Moo- spicy grilled pork collar with shallots, coriander, mint, lime, fish sauce, and toasted rice dressing. also an expert combination of lime, heat, and yummy pork shoulder. ends with green mango and spiced sugar / calamansi sugar. price is on the higher side but hey it's HK and still bottle water.

Yelp
This place is amazing, from the food to the decor! It's quite small and somewhat hidden, which only adds to the old Hong Kong feel of the place. The food also does not disappoint. I sat upstairs, where the design- from the wall prints to the ceiling design- made the wait for food pleasant and a perfect backdrop for an ig pic. The presentation is so cute too- I love how they put the sticky rice in personal wooden cups!
google avatar

Pilar M.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. Now I have to say that this review is given purely on the incompetence of the waitstaff. I sat down and immediately told them of my gluten intolerance. After ordering and going trough what I could and couldn't have. The good came and I started to chow down. Half way through eating a plate of morning glory I was told oh sorry ma'am you cannot eat that - it had gluten. How on earth is this something she did not think to tell me when I ordered the dish. But I suppose after ordering the marinated chicken which she said was made without soya sauce, after delivering to our table she advised I could not in fact eat it. All that said. If you can handle spice and like Thai food this is a place to try. I just won't be coming back. If on the off chance I do I will be speaking directly with the kitchen. The dessert rice dumplings are a must try

Yelp
One of the best meals of my life!!!! My husband and I were here on vacation and casually strolled here. This place is just hands down amazing. You must get the corn ice cream dessert. We got it 4x in 4 meals and have joked about flying back from San Francisco to Hong Kong just for the dessert! Go here and eat everything

Yelp
One of the food highlights of my last trip to HK.. Set in a great part of town, comfortable setting, great service and the food! Had the papaya salad w/ pork, moo ping and fried morning glory. I'd like to say one was the 'standout' but in all honesty all three were spectacular. I ate at the bar and a couple regulars next to me were sharing the sea bass and assured me that was the best item on the menu. The two bartenders(one from France and the other from Nepal) were awesome and made me feel at home. Will definitely return next trip-
google avatar

Lily L.

Yelp
Chachawan, I had a lot of great food in HK, but you were still the meal that stood out. I was hesitant about going initially, as I read so many reviews about the "club like" music and expense account prices. But the service was great (not easy to find in HK), the food exceptional, and prices surprisingly reasonable.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Sheung Wan. It's not the cheapest place, but you're in Hong Kong and it's also on the island. But my standouts here is the Gai Yang which is a Northern Thai dish. Pairs perfectly with the sticky rice which is also a northern Thai dish. I guess the only thing that's missing is maybe Khao Soi here.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Best Thai I ever ate. Not your typical selection of Thai food staples on the menu but rather very well designed meals that will blow you away. We had 4 different dishes and all were stunning. Sat at the counter right at the open kitchen. Super friendly staff. A must visit in Hong Kong.

Yelp
Lucky to have this restaurant in my Neighborhood. Great Thai flavours - be aware of the green chilli. Crab fried rice is really addictive.

Yelp
The food and drinks are some of the best I've had in HK-however the bartenders are rude and not very friendly. For how much the cocktails cost, I wouldn't mind a smile every once in awhile or even a hello. The Thai food though is on another level, the fried rice and fish are delicious. Every time I'm in the city I make my way here. If you like spicy cocktails the TT margarita should be your first choice. However, for all the different liquors they have behind the bar, custom cocktails aren't an option.

Yelp
This establishment is a genuine apology for every flaccid Tupperware of bullshit pad Thai you have eaten during your lifetime. The best Thai I have ever had - fresh, fiery, and flavorful. 11/10. I went on a Tuesday night, walked past at least 6 empty restaurants on my way here. This place is packed. The people have spoken. We sit on the second floor, the vibes are good. Lighting is soft and forgiving - major key. We order drinks - they are incredible. I had some turmeric something and my boyfriend had something with cucumbers that was also perfect. We have the duck salad, the clams, and the pork. Every single plate was fantastic. THEIR SAUCE GAME IS NEXT LEVEL. The rice comes in some cute little baskets. We never order dessert after dinner, but since everything was so good, we went for it. We split the coconut dumpling dessert and it was the best. Salty, sweet, weird because dessert soup, also perfect, toasty balls of heaven.

Yelp
The place is known for Thai cuisine, came here with friends on last week again. They don't take reservations and only seat you when your party has fully arrived. They have a bar area where you can wait and order a drink though. The food is good for sharing, especially their salt crusted whole grilled fish is so good.  Also, theBBQ pork, or skewered pork - they slice is up and serve on a wood plate, this is by far my favorite.  It's cooked to perfect, and seasoned nicely, not too salty and enough to make it tasty to go with your sticky jasmine rice or by itself. They also have a side sauce but I find it tastes better without it. The dessert rice dumplings are a must try! Great service and yummy food, I can say this is one of my favorite restaurants in Hong Kong!

Yelp
The menu has 4 items that are marked "contains gluten" But the rest of the items are gluten free. Bar like atmosphere, food is spicy. Safe for wheat allergies

Yelp
The food here was delicious and plentiful. Why three stars you ask? The seating here is a bit cramped, I get it- small space/big city. However, when the party beside our table got up to leave we asked if we could push their table against ours for our party of four. We were told no, that another group was coming in for that table. Cool. Except, they never did. We stayed for another 45 minutes or so - we had more dishes to order and wine to drink- and no one ever sat at that table. Not so cool. We ordered a pile of food and may have ordered more if there was room to put it on our small table. That being said, we loved the larb and the whole fish. Very memorable and dishes I would order again in a heartbeat. They tend to have a bit of a wait so grab a beer from 7-11 to enjoy outside while you wait for your table.

Yelp
Great cocktails, great good and great (and fast) service. The serving sizes were good and the food was fresh and delicious. Our bill at the end of our meal was also pretty reasonable given the meal and drinks we had. The only 'non-positive' I can say is that I struggled to read the menu due to the lighting where we were sitting, however that could be down to my failing old-man eyesight! Overall Chachaman was brilliant and surpassed our expectations. Highly recommended.

Yelp
WOW! The reviews are accurate. What a find in Hong Kong. Spicy Isaan food. Very unique and tasty. The Crab fried rice was my favorite. Small plates to share. Will be back for sure!

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Hong Kong hands down! Actually I can say that chachawan is one of my favorite restaurants across the globe (and I travel extensively). Their salt crusted whole grilled fish is soooo good. They pack the outer skin of the fish with salt and they grill it to perfection. So you can't eat the skin. But you can just lift the skin off the fish, and it should give away quite easily. The meat inside is moist and "fluffy", they also add a stalk of lemon grass in the mouth of the fish and that gives the meat a hint of lemongrass flavor without overpowering the natural taste of the fish. Also their grilled chicken thigh and fried chicken is so good! Their grilled chicken thigh is the most moist I've ever had and the sauce they add on top really soaks into the chicken. Also their fried chicken is just perfection, no need for me to describe anymore. Drinks-- get the mango one with the salt! Or the one in the coconut! They have the option of adding alcohol but I'm good off that. I prefer the virgin drinks! Tip: at the end of the meal, they give you slices of green mango with some type of salt that is BOMB.com one thing doe- lots of foreigners. I mean I'm in Hong Kong but I see more foreigners than locals eating here.

Yelp
Casual atmosphere, great food! Combined with good friends, one of the best meals on the trip. Would definitely come back. Everything ordered was delish!

Yelp
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Hong Kong. Whilst you cannot reserve a table you can leave your name on the door & pop next door for a drink (or two) & they will call you when a table is available. The Gai Yung, pork collar, tiger prawns & crab omelette are all excellent. The papaya salad is also very good but be careful this comes spicy as standard. Service is efficient if always a little rushed. We will be back...

Yelp
Hands down from first plate till the final sea bass feast. Thai cuisine is absolutely on my top 5. And I turn to switch to more authentic sour, salty, spicy style than various curry in my younger days. This spot, nostalgia HK deco, small plate and industrial/street vibe, drag me to such a care-free Sunday night. The drinks are some LKF bar standard. We two wanna swallow a whole tiger that we determined to pass the long listed salad session. Chicken thigh to start. Greedy skewers if you are used to Yardbird portion. And of course, since Thai, you will be anticipating that sweet savoury soy sauce with hot chilli. We growed our appetite right after. Veggie salad with anchovy. inspirational. Signature salted whole sea bass. 'We don't flip fish here, let us know when you are done with this side. We will help you with the bones'. Two waitress passed by and convinced/repeated this. Alright. The taboo is defiantly no salted cod skin. They warmed me but that does not stop my curiosity. They are right. The fish is perfect for two to share. I hate that we missed mince pork with lettuce, that my all time favourite. We are marking our calendar to go back.
google avatar

Esther T.

Yelp
We came here from a recommendation of a friend, and I will say, the food had LOTS of flavor. We ordered a lettuce wrap dish, and fried chicken. To my surprise though, everything was REALLY spicy. My husband, who can handle more spice than me, also was panting haha. The price point is more than usual at a place in HK, but it's nice to try different types of foods :)

Yelp
Chachawan is a bustling Thai restaurant with a great lively atmosphere. At the front is a small bar area serving Thai themed cocktails with patrons spilling onto Hollywood Road when it is busy. Behind the slightly hectic bar is the restaurant itself with a series of bistro style tables in the middle of the room and a bar at the back looking onto an open kitchen. There is more seating to be had upstairs, although I have not ventured up there yet, preferring to look into the kitchen and watch the chefs at work. Unlike most Thai places, Chachawan specialises in Issan cuisine, from the North-Eastern region of Thailand. As a result, the typical curry or noodle dishes are nowhere to be found (or almost nowhere as one dish has a curry element to it). Instead, the food focusses on the ingredients, whether grilled fish/meat (the marinated chicken thighs are fabulous) or vegetables (I am a big fan of their smoked eggplant and morning glory) with a particular emphasis of salads. The raw material ingredients are complimented by hot and sour sauces - perfect lip smacking fare from my perspective. If you don't light spicy food, the kitchen can tone the dishes down for you if you ask. I have been here a few times here and have not been disappointed once. Watching the kitchen operate at full steam is something to behold. It is all quite frantic but it all comes together somehow at the pass. The food itself has been universally lovely. My favourite so far being the river prawns with the aforementioned egg plant. I have also watched salt baked sea bass wander past me out in the restaurant a few times which looks great as well - maybe that will be the next dish I sample!
google avatar

Yelp
Found this place via Lonely Planet Guide to HK. Great dishes for sharing. No pad Thai or traditional noodle dishes but most of the menu is great. Two buddies of mine and I had gone for lunch. The omelet with crab and the larb were probably my favorites. If you order one of the sweet plates, they're real slow with it so we had to remind them we had ordered it but other than that, real tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
This is far and away my favorite Thai restaurant in HK and I highly recommend coming here if you like the strong flavors from the north of Thailand. (Not so much Pad Thai or curries - in fact they don't even have that there). First of all, the food is authentic and the chef has a down to earth personality that makes you feel good about being there. He is always there in the kitchen expediting and overseeing the orders in his small but open kitchen. The flavors are on the spicier side with strong flavored Thai sauces to accompany virtually every dish that comes out of his kitchen. The sauces are worth trying so don't forget to dip when you order up. Favorites to order are: -pork rinds. They make them themselves and are good to nibble on while drinking your hipster-inspired cocktail -The pounded papaya salad (mention your spicy level if you can't eat spicy) with roast pork or shrimp. -Have the clams. They are steamed with basil, ginger, galangal, and other herbs and the green spicy sauce is one of my favorites here -grilled pork collar. This order is large for pork neck but so juicy and tender - you'll want this and is great to share. -not crazy for the chicken but if I did order up - then the marinated drunken fried chicken. -order the fish. It is good to share when you are among 4 people and order the crab fried rice to go along with the fish. This is usually our main (even when it's just my husband and I). -last, have the dessert here. The coconut ice cream is my personal favorite to cleanse and refresh the palate but the mango sticky rice is also solid. And not always easy to find in HK. *Note to order 2-3 dishes at a time because they cook fast and want to turn tables relatively quickly since it is a no reservation restaurant. Only the grilled fish is something you will want to order at the beginning of service (takes 20+ mins to prepare). Prices are moderate but I would say, if you order a few of the above with drinks for two people - the bill is around 400-500 HKD. Service is decent for HK- but more on the hipster side so you may not get warm fuzzier from everyone but they are definitely professional. Though be warned this place does get popular on weekends and during peak times for dinner. Dinning for two is better than big parties because of the no reservation policy and if you really still want to come in a group of 4-6, just be prepared to have a short wait on weekdays and 30-45 min wait on weekends if it's busy. Luckily 208 and other bars are very near by to kill time while you wait for your table to be ready. Oh, also, if you go - everyone needs to be there to be seated. So keep that in mind so it won't be frustrating when your table is ready but your buddy is hella late to dinner. Lastly, some seating can be tight (esp by the window upstairs or by the bar down stairs) and there is not much air conditioning - but I hardly think of Thai food as a white dining experience and find it more fun this way! Again I love the food here a lot and am always excited to eat here. It's not overly pretentious and consistently good since the time it opened their doors. Always worth a visit for us when in HK.

Yelp
Incredible Thai food. The place is subtle, great drinks, great lighting. The Thai food has the correct amount of spice and zest. Do. Try the desserts, they are great.

Yelp
My favorite Thai restaurant in Hong Kong, conveniently located on Hollywood Rd. Open kitchen where you can look at the preparation of your dish ; special mention for Larp Moo, chicken (grilled or marinated), Thai omelette, pork neck and the sweet dumplings to finish with. All in an reasonably priced set.

Yelp
Pretty authentic taste, good menu selection. Recommend grilled pork neck. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Have been to Chachawan a couple of times now, once for dinner and once for lunch. I'm lucky enough for this brilliant little restaurant to be right on my doorstep! The set lunch menu is a steal - HKD 138 for two courses (main or sweet) including Thai iced tea/coffee and jasmine or sticky rice. The flattened chicken (Gai Yung) and pork skewers (Moo Ping) are my favourites - this is not your typical Thai place... Isaan spices and flavours deliver a complex and refreshing twist to the usual Thai food you're expecting. The desserts are equally refreshing - we shared a portion of the Kanom Dtom or warm rice dumplings in salted coconut cream. As a big mango sticky rice fan I was very impressed and highly recommend trying them! The smallish restaurant doesn't take reservations owing to its popularity but we were seated immediately at 12.30pm. You can usually get a seat by the bar/kitchen if not the smaller tables (packed tightly together) hopefully near a fan in the current furnace that is Hong Kong! We paid around HKD 300 without service charge for two and left positively stuffed, I reckon the weekday set lunch menu is fantastic value for money. The staff are lovely too which is a rarity in HK.

Yelp
Terrible service, a simple pad thai took them 40+ minutes to make, and every time I asked where the food is, they tell me it's almost ready, but that just turned out to be a lie. Don't go here
google avatar

Yelp
Love cha cha wan, we live above this place and can't go there enough! You can't book but that's part of the charm. Food is full of flavour, fresh and fantastic. The staff are fast and attentive they run a slick operation

Yelp
Great service and yummy food.. Portions are on the small side and can be very spicy for those who cannot stand the heat. Came late on a Friday evening as was lucky to quickly grab a table for 4. The restaurant is small so expect to be crammed in. Food came fast and the servers were nice and personable. Agreed that it is quite a hipster place but you will find the most authentic Thai food outside of Thailand. Recommend the sticky rice to eat with everything!

Favourite Thai place in HK. All the dishes are well seasoned, especially if you like spice! Some standout items are the crab fried rice, the sea bass and the papaya salad with shrimp.

Yelp
Probably the best meal we had in Hong Kong. The salt crusted whole fish was to die for and would have been a meal on its own, but we have no self control so we also had a papaya salad and pork skewers and the fried rice with crab. Cocktails were also lovely albeit pretty expensive (in line with the area). My only lament is service was decidedly on the rushed side -- they hustle you in and out with little in the way of pleasantries. Still totally worth it for an outstanding northern Thai meal.

Yelp
One of my favourite restaurants in Hk. I try and avoid the weekends, as the no reservation policy is a pain and I don't like the idea of queueing for 1-2 hours. Once you're in the food is exceptional and the whole place has got a laid back, cool atmosphere.

Yelp
Chachawan is probably one of the best thai restaurants in hong kong if you can handle very spicy food! There are not many dishes on the menu which ensures fresh ingredients and consistent quality. Go for the fried rice with crab, one of their amazing papaya salads, the pork collar or the seabass and finish with the dumplings in salty coconut sauce. It might be a bit long to get a seat sometimes, and the ones at the bar upstairs are definitely to avoid, but it is really worth the wait.

Yelp
Super trendy right now and overpriced for what you get. Didn't have anything outstanding. Super crowded upstairs as they seem to be trying to get in as many people as possible.

Yelp
Very nice Thai place. Friendly staff and delicious food. Only problem is their shop is tiny and completely open, so it could be chilly on a windy night

Yelp
Amazing food, great atmosphere! The sea bass was just delicious and so was the wyagu beef salad! Loved this little gem of a place!

Yelp
Fresh ingredients, authentic taste, and friendly service (esp. by HK standards). Even saw the chef taste-test a bowl of soup then ask his staff to re-do it because it wasn't up to snuff. A rarity in HK! Lunch at HK$138 is a good deal considering the area and the quality of food.

Yelp
The food and vibe was amazing! 6 of us we're all through the roof about the food. Highlights were pomelo salad (Yum Som O), the marinated grilled chicken (Gai Yung) - really amazing contrary to what another reviewer thought - and the grilled shrimp, Larb Bet salad and the papaya salad also came with great reviews. Don't miss the coconut ice cream dessert. It can be a little dark in there so bring your flashlight for menu reading. :-)

Yelp
Not impressed by the marinated chicken at all. Didn't taste very fresh, neither did the steamed rice that felt like a rip-off for 25 bucks! Way too many staff for such a small location too, who constantly kept walking past the "bar" where you're seated if you're eating solo.
