Chadwick's will always have a special place in my heart because it is where my husband and I had our first date. We have also continued coming here throughout the years. It has a great location near the water and a varied menu. They are open for lunch, dinner, as well as brunch. It is also a big place so typically not a wait to get a table, there is an upstairs as well as a downstairs seating area and a large bar. This time we came with a couple friends for dinner and we were sat downstairs in this side area. It is almost like an enclosed patio with a big front window, stone walls, and lots of pretty string lights coming from the ceiling. In my opinion it's the best area to sit at for ambiance.
We started our menu with a round of drinks as well as an order of the Spicy Chicken Egg Rolls. They were warm and nicely fried served with a sweet chili sauce. A first we weren't given small plates so it was bit challenging to eat and dip until we asked and got some. But overall a solid starter.
For my entree I got the Buttermilk Fried Chicken which is typically a Fried Chicken breast, bacon gravy, mac & cheese, coleslaw, and a biscuit. You are able to swap the sides for whenever of your choosing so I got veggie of the day (broccoli) instead of slaw. It was a nice sized portion, but the taste of some components left a little bit to be desired. The chicken was moist and had good breading. But when fried chicken isn't on the bone it just is not the same. There was absolutely no seasoning on the broccoli. Thank goodness for the bacon gravy which was tasty and honestly wish I had a bit more of it. Their Mac and cheese wasn't anything special, but was fine.
My husband however got the Short Ribs entree which were braised birria short ribs, consommé, mashed potatoes, and sautéed spinach. He let me have a few bites and honestly he won dish of the evening. It was a well plated and executed dish. Everything on the plate worked well together and the consommé was so flavorful and helped to elevate everything else. Might get this one in the future for myself
