"Built on the solid foundation of housemade birote salado, using a recipe developed by founder Santiago “Chago” Laguna and Chago’s first panadero (baker) Don Ángel Solis, this tortas ahogadas specialist originally opened in Guadalajara in 1985. Chago is the only vendor in town that does it all in house from the bread to the meat. The Montebello location opened in 2006 with a ‘50s-style soda fountain design just like in Guadalajara, with black and white checkerboard floor, shiny red vinyl booths, and memorabilia providing a novel setting for stiff rolls drowned in tomato sauce and salsa de chile de árbol. Fillings include classic carnitas, and for a couple of quarters more, the tasty pork tongue. The Laguna family still oversees production of birotes salados, now made by panaderos Francisco Javier Calvillo and Omar Calvillo, a dedicated father and son team making bread rolls that sets this torta ahogada stand apart." - Bill Esparza

It's a great spot for anyone craving authentic Mexican flavors. Their signature dish, the torta ahogada, is delicious, featuring perfectly seasoned pork and a rich, spicy sauce that packs a punch. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service make it a welcoming place to enjoy a meal. I recommend trying their horchata to complement the food! Overall, a great choice for anyone looking to indulge in traditional tortas ahogadas from Jalisco's Mexican cuisine.

This is my fave spot, so naturally, it was my Mother's Day pick. The food's incredible, you won't find anything better. Service was awesome, food came out fast. But the best part? The owner comes out, chats with everyone, and makes sure you're all set.

The one thing I really enjoy is Mexican food but from Guadalajara,Jalisco,Mexico where my dad came from that great amazing city in Mexican. Their cooking is unique is a melting pot for many years. The popular dish in Guadalajara is the Tortas Ahogadas the popular sandwich have grown and speard throught the United States. I love Tacos Dorados Sencillo it's potato tacos fried but can choice of meats in the tacos like carne, buche, pollo, lengua, mixto, cueritos . They serve torta, tacos, tostada the menu selections is small but the food incredible and full of flavors in each bite. Chago Ahogadas know how to a truly Torta Ahogadas and other items that bring the city of Guadalajara alive.

I’m sorry! I don’t know what all the hype is. We stopped at this place to have a torta and I’m sorry to say it wasn’t what I was expecting. Bread was tough like rubber so hard to bite. They give you a spoon buy no knife. Meat it’s not even shredded and no beans on my bread. Lack of flavor and. Salt! My sauce was cold and flavorless. I had better tortas. Sorry for saying this but food lacks flavor. *also waitress with the long lashes and black hair hates to be there *

The food is good , but the customer service is questionable, I order over the phone and when I arrived they told me my food would be ready in 15 min to sit and wait for my name to be called, after 35 min I got up and asked about my order, turns out my order had been sitting on a counter with a bunch of other orders and when I asked why they did not call my name they said sometimes they just leave it there, they took no accountability and on top of that made me late for work. Please use this as constructive criticism, and do that one simple thing and call out the order. customers don't like cold food and we shouldn't be responsible for looking through bags to find our order.
