The 26 Best Restaurants In Mumbai

"Dadar has long been the Marathi community’s preferred neighborhood to live in, so some of the city’s best and oldest Marathi restaurants are located there. When it comes to dependably delicious food from the Malvani region, we turn to the cave-like, village home-inspired dining room of Chaitanya. If you’re solo or with a friend, the dishes to order again and again include the kombdi curry with crispy wade, tisrya bhujane (unshelled clams sauteed in spicy coconut), and chicken sagoti on the bone. Groups should go for more variety—add a few of the fish thalis, supplemented with a spicy olya kajuchi usal made with cashew nuts in roasted masala gravy. " - roshni bajaj sanghvi

Surmai fry 10/10 Malvani chicken thali 5/10 - SOLKADI given with the thali was a 10/10 on its own. Special shout out to it. Each priced at 480/- each i believe. Ultimate verdict - I've had better fish and malvani style food, the one hour wait time..food was not worth the wait.

*Food* : We are a family of seafood lover, and this place exceeded our expectations. We ordered the Tirslya bhujane, Rawas thali, Prawn thail, Veg thali every single dish was absolutely amazing even the Veg thali was delicious which came with a modak served hot with shahjuk tup. The Modak blew our minds and had to order another. The fish was fresh, and the slices of fried fish were huge. Service : Have to mention the unmatched hospitality and service, we called them for directions and with helping us with the place and other details, they even WhatsApp-ed us the location and address. Value for money : 10/10 Special mention Rahul Patil for the service.

After visiting Siddhivinayak Mandir, we were really hungry and wanted to try some authentic Malvani food. That’s when we decided to head over to Chaitanya. There was a long wait outside since it was peak late lunch time, but we patiently waited and finally got a table. We ordered a simple Malvani prawn curry, bhakri, and ukdiche modak (steamed modak). The solkadi was also very authentic and refreshing. The food quality was excellent, truly living up to all the positive reviews we had heard about this place. A must-try spot if you are in Mumbai and craving authentic Malvani flavors!

If you're craving authentic Malwani cuisine, Chaitanya Assal Malwani Restaurant is a must-visit. With three branches—located in Malwan, Dadar, and Andheri—this restaurant has built a reputation for serving traditional Malwani flavors that truly stand out. I've personally visited their Malwan and Dadar outlets. The Dadar branch is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from the iconic Siddhivinayak Temple. While it's smaller compared to the spacious Andheri outlet, it still delivers big on taste and authenticity. Chaitanya’s menu may not be extensive, but every dish listed is thoughtfully curated and absolutely worth trying. From starters to mains and desserts, they offer a delightful spread in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I tried the Chaitanya Special Veg Thali, which was a treat! It included Cashew sabji Seasonal green leafy vegetables Kala vatana or valyachi bhirda For dessert: Modak and Kharvas—both were mouthwatering. For non-veg lovers, their Prawns Thali is a bestseller and highly recommended. It’s generously loaded with prawns, and you can also try their Pomfret (Paplet) and Surmai Thalis for a rich coastal experience. No Malwani meal is complete without Solkadi, and theirs is refreshing and the perfect way to end your meal. The staff is polite, and the service is good. However, during peak hours, expect a wait time of 30–40 minutes. To avoid the rush, especially in the afternoon, try reaching before 1 PM.
