"In addition to trendy treats like tanghulu, or candied fruit, this Convoy shop is great for refreshing fruit tea drinks like Superfruit tea and fresh orange green tea slush, which can be augmented with fun toppings like crystal boba, aloe vera, and grape jelly." - Candice Woo

Fancy decoration inside the store with the delicious drink and some sweet desserts. The Swiss Cocoa w Tiramisu is like the chocolate milk with a topping of tiramisu, which is attractive to the chocolate lover. TheOreo Brulee Jasmine Milk Tea is with much oreo crumbles at the wall of the cup. The White Peach Oolong is generally good! The Creme Brulee milk tea looks so fancy with the special torch for making the drink. They have some fancy furniture and special pattern stickers on the wall. Worth paying a visit for the milk tea here.

Randomly walked into this tea shop and it turned out to be a surprisingly amazing encounter! I ordered white peach oolong w/ cheese foam. The foam is quite soft and milky. And the white oolong tea especially, is super peachy and has pure tea aroma, which I barely had in other places. I heard that they make the tea when customers order. That may be the reason behind. Love the taste and wish I could come again😋

Our waitress was friendly and very helpful. It was our first time trying curry, and the food was wonderful

Update 2nd drink. Strawberry green tea was good. Next time I need try more. My drink just average. Love the space. 45 degree table smart set up. Clean restroom.

I've only started ordering Brown Sugar drinks this year so this might be very anecdotal, but this is the best one I've drank. I ordered the Brown Sugar Bobo Fresh Milk to go and when I drank it at home it was so good. The boba was chewy and warm, the drink had a beautiful layer look with the milk on the top and the brown sugar was flavorful. Came here on a whim since it was on my list of places to try and will keep coming back if I eat in the area.

Google
Second time coming here and the prices have reduced (if I remember correctly). Boba drinks are around 5.65-6$. It’s a good portion of boba for the price, and the boba itself is good quality. It was warm when we got it, which was a good sign. The boba was fresh and perfectly sweet and chewy. I got Jasmine milk tea with cheese foam and boba, 75% sweet. The sweetness was perfect, and I think regular ice is good as well.

Google
We came on a weekday evening, and the wait was not long. The staff were helpful in guiding us to our drink of choice. The jasmine milk had wonderfully aromatic flavours, and 50% sweetness was just to our liking.

Google
Stopped here today to grab a taro milk tea with boba. Thought it was delicious. The taro isn't initially mixed fully in so you get a delicious mixture of flavors and textures in your mouth! If that's not your thing, it mixes in well as well! Delicious stop for some boba.

Yelp
This place was amazing. I initially came to go to the boba shop next door but after looking at both menus, I chose Chakaa because it had a classic milk tea and it was one of their main drinks. The interior was spacious and clean and the staff were friendly. Their menu looked awesome and I loved my milk tea with boba. I got oolong with 25% sugar and it was perfect. The boba was fresh and chewy and the tea was creamy but still tasted like tea. I highly recommend and this is going to be one of my go to boba places.

Yelp
Came last night (Friday night) and I wouldn't come back again. :( I will give them some grace because they were understaffed, but at the same time, Tastea works faster with only two baristas. It took half an hour to get our drinks... Every five minutes they called out one order, as if they were brewing the tea fresh for every customer, but it definitely didn't taste like it. I got the White Peach Oolong w/Cheese and my partner got Strawberry Yakult Tea. Mine was watery, unflavorful, and had no taste of peach at all. The cheese foam was thin and had no taste either. The boba was cooked perfectly (the saving grace!) but it wasn't sweet! The cashier said the boba was sweet and the drink would be too, but they were only barely sweet (tasted as if I ordered 30%, but I got 75% as she recommended). I paid $6.50 for a watery oolong with no fruit flavor. My partner was surprised his drink came out as a slush, other drinks were labeled slush but the Yakult drinks were not. He did NOT want a slush! Why was it not labeled on the menu? :( His drink tasted good though, even though he didn't want an icy drink it was a pretty decent strawberry slush, butttt it barely tasted like Yakult. It was like he got a sprinkle of Yakult in there... Idk if I'm wrong for expecting something like Ding Tea's drinks for Yakult, but this place wasn't anything like that. This place is SUPER LOUD. The setup is so echo-ey and annoying. It made it hard to wait for our drinks. It only took two groups laughing (out or 7 or 8 groups that could sit in the shop) to make it way too loud and overstimulating. It really shouldn't be that way! Put some wood or carpet, or more deco to dull the noise. Even shaking ice for the drinks echoed everywhere. The poor girls working there have to be there for hours! I could barely handle 30 minutes, I would be screaming as a worker in there!! Also for the space they had, there was barely anywhere to sit. The setup and the noise situation definitely needs to change.

Yelp
I came to Chakaa right when they opened on a Sunday morning because I've heard a lot of buzz and comparisons to Camellia Rd. Parking was super easy and the space of the shop is huge! They had a lot of tables so seems like a great area to hangout. I ordered the Golden Phoenix Oolong with Cheese foam and it was a little lackluster. The tea was extremely light, borderline tasting like water. The cheese foam also didn't taste salted or cheese-y... but the texture was nice, super foamy and thick. I'm not sure if I came on an off day but Chakaa will not be on the top of my list to visit when I'm visiting San Diego.

Yelp
Any time I'm in this plaza, I always notice this boba shop. What's crazy is that there are three boba shops in the plaza. This one seems to get some love unlike their neighbor, who gets so much love. In any case, I decided to stop by here because I wanted to check them out. Btw, during peak hours, parking is atrocious so good luck trying to find parking. Got here an hour before closing on a Thursday night. There was a good amount of people chilling and enjoying their drinks. The decor is simple and there's nothing wrong with that. They do have a wall with a mural on it and if you want to take a photo with it, go for it. The folks behind the counter were very nice. Their menu has enough variety and I appreciate that they have a board with their popular drinks. The price point is fair and it's the same as most boba shops now. I ordered the super fruit tea, half sweet and less ice and with aloe. I think there's only one size for the drinks, I wasn't paying attention. The drink came out pretty quickly. The aloe seemed sweet, tea was good but I definitely tasted all the fruits in the tea. There was watermelon and orange slices and passion fruit and other things I wasn't sure of. Overall, it was really good and I now want to return to the their other drinks. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I feel like it's really hard to mess up dirty boba (fresh milk and brown sugar) but it tasted very odd here. I was watching the worker make the drinks and I saw her add a creamer?? (Like the ones you use in coffee) After that it was all I could really taste in my drink. It tasted off and a bit unusual. At least the place was calm and clean.

Yelp
Stopped in right after dinner a couple of doors away. Although I was quite full, after my husband showed me they had Tung Hulu, I walked right in and bought two sticks (1 for $6 or 2 for $10). One stick was all grapes and the other was grapes and strawberries. The first time I tried one of these fun, sweet treat was in Taiwan years back! I fell in love with them and now you could understand why I didn't hesitate to purchase. These were good, it took me back to my Taiwan trip. This is my first to try with grapes. I had only tried strawberries. The grapes were good. Very juicy, maybe a larger grape would be better since it didn't balance out the sweetness and tartness. The strawberry was my favorite. You could tell these were sitting awhile because the water from the fruit already lightly puddled at the bottom of the Tung Hulu. I have to say that the coating on the fruit especially on one of the order was quite thick which made it very hard when chewing. I was afraid I may cut my tongue while chewing. It was good, if only the coating was thinner. Still enjoyed my treat and glad to know I could find Tung Hulu here, if I didn't want to make it. I didn't have the chance to try any delicious sounding drinks The place is very big and have an open concept. They also have some outdoor seating. I would like to return and try a drink and if they still have Tung Hulu during the winter try them then too.

Amanda J.

Yelp
The decor is adorable and the staff are friendly and helpful. I ordered the Thai Tea Latte with Boba. I got it with less ice but was not able to change the sugar level. Other drink options allow you to pick the sugar level. The drink was sweeter than I normally prefer but it was still delicious.

Clara C.

Yelp
I made a trip to five different boba shops on Convoy to rank their "boba milk tea". I tried to get the closest to black tea if they had more than one option. I chose 100% sweetness and no ice (to eliminate dilution). Here are my ratings: 1 Camellia: boba milk tea, regular milk 2 Chakaa: ruby milk tea w brown sugar boba, regular milk 3 Tan-Cha: celon milk tea w caramel boba, non-dairy milk 4 Yun Tea House: Monkey King w boba, lactose-free house milk 5 Dayung: boba milk tea, non-dairy creamer Caveats: I think Dayung made a mistake on the order because it had some ice in the drink when I picked it up. When I tasted it at home, it tasted watered down and completely bland, like there was no sugar. So I think instead of 100% sugar and 0% ice, they gave me 0% sugar and 100% ice. I also heard Dayung is better known for their fruit teas anyway. In terms of the actual boba balls, Camellia had the best chewiness and best taste. Chakaa came very close! Chakaa's boba tasted sweet; I could tell it was brown sugar/caramelized. For this reason, perhaps I would consider changing the sweetness to 50% or 75% level. The chewiness of the boba was excellent.

Kimmy K.

Yelp
I was in the area and craving boba. We initially wanted to try Yun Tea House, but it was crowded, so we decided to check out this right next door that looked inviting and had a short line. The interior was spacious with a minimalistic design, and the back wall featured cute artwork that made the place feel unique. Each cup even had a different design inspired by that wall art! The menu offered a variety of tea options, and I ordered the white peach oolong with cheese foam. The white peach was light and paired perfectly with the oolong, while the cheese foam added a deliciously creamy touch. They also had dessert options, including tanghulu! The staff were friendly, and our drinks came out quickly. I would definitely come back to try their other specialty teas and I'm glad I discovered this place today!

Yelp
Had a boba craving and stopped by CHAKAA Monday afternoon, the space was quiet with some inside seating available The taro fresh milk was DELICIOUS and the taro ribbons along the cup really added to the presentation, I got it 75% sweet and could even go for 50% next time but definitely satisfied my sweet tooth!

Veronica H.

Yelp
We had dinner at the ramen place next door and on our way out I noticed this place. I walked in and was intrigued that they had a matcha crème brûlée drink. We were the only people inside and were helped immediately. Our drink was ready pretty fast, but the little wait time we did have to wait we enjoyed the good music they had playing. My only suggestion would be to add more to the decor, as the establishment is of a good size it seems pretty empty as most of the decor is concentrated at the entrance.

Cali G.

Yelp
Place smelled like mildewed bathroom as soon as I walked in. Wouldn't want to order anything here or sit here

Yelp
CHAKAA Tea Shop has managed to survive in a uber competitive environment for bubble tea stores in the Convoy District. It occupies a small suite near an internal corner of the Convoy Village Shopping Center. There wasn't a line when I showed up on a late weeknight evening. Each order was hand brewed for maximum freshness, but that led to a wait for the drink(s) to be ready. The menu card had a front and back listing cheese teas, fruit teas, milk teas, and mixed teas. The first drink I chose was a Strawberry Green Tea with house boba pearls added. The second drink was a Superfruit Tea which included fresh orange and strawberry slices. I requested 75% sugar and less ice as modifications to both choices. After about 10 minutes, both cups were ready. They were covered with a lid as opposed to a plastic seal that some places use. The taste of each tea was fine although they seemed to be less sweet than I had expected for a 3/4 sugar level. This business has been able hold its prices to fairly reasonable increases since it first opened before the pandemic. For the quality and price of the beverages, I rounded my rating to four stars for CHAKAA Tea Shop.

Vince P.

Yelp
CHAKAA Tea House is a solid tea shop located in Convoy. This spot is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. Inside, they have about 3-4 tables for seating. They have a nice menu of different milk teas, fruit teas, and slushes. Wifey and I ended up getting the Watermelon Green Tea Slush and the Golden Phoenix Oolong tea. Both drinks were refreshing and made fresh to order! Overall, we enjoyed the minimalist and modern interior of this spot and the drink options they had. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Put this spot on your list for some high quality boba and tea!

Jemiah J.

Yelp
Service was great. The cafe is cute and parking can be limited in the private lot. Food was a treat. I got the Tanghulu ( Fruit Candy ).

Aimee L.

Yelp
Came here for a fun little drink on a weekday after a recommendation from a friend! I got a Jasmine Cheezo, and it was pretty good. It wasn't too sweet, and I could taste the tea flavor pretty well. This is a pretty standard boba place, and the drinks are pretty consistent also! There was a bit of a wait, but the workers are nice. Parking in this lot can be rough during peak hours, which can be something to keep in mind!

Joanna G.

Yelp
Came back here because I was craving the Oreo Brulee Jasmine Milk Tea again. 10/10 again. It was consistent with the first time I came here. My sister tried out the swiss chocolate tiramisu drink this time and she said she really enjoyed it.

Eric W.

Yelp
The cashier justine is so kind and helpful. She was managing the front herself and made drinks timely. I would recommend the mango crush with 25% sugar and boba. 10/10 will go back for her !

Eric S.

Yelp
My first time coming here and im telling you... you gotta check out CHAKAA, it's the bomb! A dope boba spot with crazy vibes, right next to another boba tea spot... I tried their matcha crème brûlée, and it was insane! Watching the barista torch the tip of the drink was like a show, and the flavor was out of this world. Plus, the service was super quick and smooth. Trust me, you gotta come experience CHAKAA for yourself, it's the real deal!

Teresa N.

Yelp
Their hot longan dates goji tea warms my soul on hot and cold days!! Highly recommend!!! :)

Anne H.

Yelp
Happy national boba day! Got the taro milk with 75% sugar and low ice. Delicious and bits of taro were so good and the boba was good They were very nice.

Tina T.

Yelp
Love these flavors of their teas. Very refreshing and not too sweet. Bookmarking themes so I can remember the flavors I chose!

Lynn L.

Yelp
ORDER oreo brulee jasmine milk tea (4/5) -- light ice w/ boba the oreo brulee jasmine milk tea was so good! the milk tea was fragrant and not too sweet even with the brulee. the oreo added extra flavor and a slight crunch. the flavors were perfect together. the boba is soft and chewy. roasted brulee boba matcha (3.5/5) -- 50% sweet, light ice there was basically no matcha flavor and the brulee wasn't as sweet as i expected. the roasted brulee added a slight salty flavor. i just wish the matcha flavor was stronger :') moosen matcha latte (3/5) -- light ice w/ grass jelly this drink wasn't sweet at all, which i liked. however, the matcha flavor is super light. it just tasted like slightly sweetened milk. SERVICE (5/5) the cashier was super nice. he was able to answer my questions. it looked like he was the only worker, but the drink came out in a timely manner. AMBIANCE this plaza and surrounding area has a ton of good food options. parking was plentiful on a tuesday afternoon. there were seats inside as well.

Anna M.

Yelp
The staff here were super nice! Personally, I'm not a big fan of the boba here. The taro milk tea was too sweet and I didn't like the combination of cream and taro. I think my friend enjoyed her tea drink.

Chris S.

Yelp
Probably the best boba shop in this area. Give it a go if you're trying decide between all the others!

Kris P.

Yelp
The Good: Clean, spacious space with some small tables and outlets under the TVs. Love that the music isn't blaring, but good background volume so you can have a convo or work. Service was nice, friendly and efficient The Not So Bad: I've been here a few times throughout the years, but I find their drinks to be too sweet - even at the 25% level. The Ugly: Hard, chewy boba My jaw was a bit sore after drinking half of it. Usually it needs to be softer with a good chew, but this was not well done. Had another with grass jelly, which of course was fine.

Selena L.

Yelp
First time having a tea with sooo many variety of fruits. It was delicious and refreshing. The guy was very helpful and nice. Ambience was very calm. Got a super fruit tea with boba and lychee. I like the design of the cups too.

Satranina L.

Yelp
One of my favorite places. When I'm in the area I will stop by. I like the lemon tea with chia seeds or the peach oolong tea. The space is clean and the staff are really nice.

Angela G.

Yelp
My bf and I were staying with some friends in the area since we were here for an event and after having dinner, we decided to grab some delicious boba for dessert and to calm their tummies after doing the Hot Ones challenge. It was a busy spot for sure! We got there and had to circle the parking lot to finally find a spot. So glad I wasn't driving because parking was extremely tight. Not sure why but the spots are super tiny! We literally had to squeeze into a spot and then squeeze out of the door. We walked in and the place was poppin. Tons of people and quite the line but it went quick! We grabbed a table after ordering and hung out for a bit. I got the roasted Brulee matcha boba and my bf got a classic ruby black milk tea with boba. I didn't want anything tea related since it was late at night and it usually keeps me up. We had to get up early the next morning so it was a nope for me. BUT, I am SUPER happy with my drink choice!! Such an amazing combo of flavors. The roasted brulee with the matcha gave it a salty sweet combo which I LOVE and the boba pearls were absolutely perfect. They were perfectly cooked and had an extremely satisfying chew. I'm happy to say that I LOVE this boba spot and it is definitely our go to for boba now whenever we're in town to visit. Already missing and craving more! IG: @ammysalamii

Maynard O.

Yelp
This place is alright and drinks aren't bad, specifically the teas. Every time I come here, there's always a smell of cleaning products. It's a good sign they keep things clean though. The service is about standard, so no complaints there. If you get anything here, just make sure it's to go.

rafaela p.

Yelp
This place is amazing ! The service was great we didn't have to wait long to order! This place is really quiet and calm. We ordered the mango crush and the Swiss cocoa w/ cheese Oreo both at 75%sweet. Both drinks were really good, the Swiss cocoa was just a bit bitter. The mango crush was amazing !I added boba to the mango crush ,the boba itself was so good soft and chewy just like I like it overall would definitely recommend this place !

Alexis S.

Yelp
The tea served here is quite excellent. The service is friendly and informative. Grab your tea and sit on the seats that have you lay your back and enjoy life!

Caroline Z.

Yelp
Oolong Milk Tea Solid as usual! Chakaa is always one of our go-tos in San Diego! Great tea flavor, yummy boba, and good portion size!

Stacey M.

Yelp
Came in to grab a boba after we had dinner across the street. It was a weekday around 9pm and it was still packed! Overall the boba was good, but it was so sweet. I ordered the brown sugar boba at 50% sweet and it was still almost too sweet for me. That being said, I enjoyed being able to customize the sweetness and the ice level. Next time I'll probably opt for 25% sweet.

Susie K.

Yelp
Friendly service. Got the passionfruit green tea at 75% sweet with lychee jelly. It was flavorful and a good quality tea. Would maybe do 50% sweetness next time but highly recommend if you like fruit teas.

Mikaela M.

Yelp
Delicious taro milk tea! They have non dairy options for milk tea. I also added salted cheese foam which was yummy. Service was fast and friendly. Portion size was generous.

Jessica S.

Yelp
I heard very great things about this boba shop and after dinner, my friend and I decided to check it out as boba is a must after dinner LOL. It's located next to Olleh Korean BBQ in the Convoy Village Shopping Center in Kearny Mesa. There's a parking lot with ample stalls, BUT it gets very crowded during dinner rush hours, making it VERY difficult to find a stall. I had to go around multiple times before being able to find a stall. My friend had to hop out of my car to get our boba since it seemed almost impossible to get a stall. I got their Roasted Oolong with Salted Cheezo Foam with 50% sweetness, and wow. The drink was suuuper good! The drink had a strong tea flavor which I loooved. As it was only tea without any milk or creamer, the salted cheese foam gave the drink a nice creaminess to it. Sooo good! My friend got their Brulee Jasmine Milk Tea, and it was also just as good! Even with regular sweetness, I didn't think it was crazy sweet like with some other places. The quality of this shop was very impressive! Overall, loved the drinks we had at this shop! Will definitely be back for more drinks as I noticed they also had High Mountain Tea and other oolong tea flavors. If a shop offered different oolong tea flavors, I see them as a great tea shop as oolong tea is my favorite type of tea LOL.

Mei T.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of green tea jelly and was pleasantly surprised that they sell it here as a dessert in itself. It was faintly sweet, which made it a light and refreshing dessert. It took 4 people to open the lid, so hopefully they replace the lids! My daughter ordered the Jasmine green tea with tiramisu and really enjoyed her drink. The ambiance was very gray and depressing, not a place I'd visit to feel happy! It's probably the saddest looking boba shop I've visited, definitely could use a splash of color and more lively decor! Even the drawings of people in the wall art looked miserable! They were expressionless and one had a frown. The drinks and dessert were good, so it's definitely worth stopping by for a to-go order.

Veronica W.

Yelp
Best boba in San Diego hands down! They offer a variety of premium teas and delicious alternatives to tea based drinks. My favorite iced drinks ranked: 1) Ceylon milk tea 2) High mountain tea (milk tea version) 3) Oolong milk tea. For a hot drink you can't go wrong with the longan jujube tea (no caffeine ).

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Giving two stars because I really liked my conversation with one of the workers before and he is so sweet! But unfortunately I won't be going back because I found a bug in my drink and people ID it as cockroach nymph. Im gonna cry myself to sleep knowing I just drank something with a cockroach in it. Very sad about this because their tea is really good...

Lee L.

Yelp
Pinch me. Or don't. I don't wanna wake up. I went to CHAKAA Tea House 5x's before reviewing. Had to be sure it wasn't just luck the first 4x's. Consistency is one of the toughest and most crucial aspects for a food/drink business to perfect. They've got it down to a science here. For the tea purist, their long list of Salted Foam Cheezo drinks feature fresh brewed teas. The ratio, texture, and taste of the cheeze foam draw out the best in the tea. For those who like their teas more embellished, the Oreo Brulee Jasmine Milk Tea and Roasted Brulee Boba Matcha are both fun and tasty. They don't skimp on the brulee amount or tea flavor. For those who aren't feeling tea, their Brown Sugar Boba Fresh Milk is good too. The boba is precise on softness and chewiness and alone can carry this drink. The store is clean, bright, and modern. They have a few tables, but it's more of a place to have a quick drink and chat with friends rather than study all day. I hope this isn't like a birthday wish where if you say it out loud, it won't come true. CHAKAA's gotten it right every time, and until they don't, they'll still be my #1 drink spot in all of Socal.

Marilyn N.

Yelp
Great service and tasty boba! Thanks for the warning that the hot drink lid tends to leak and giving us extra napkins for the car ride. Drinks are on the sweeter side so definitely recommend to reduce sweetness.

Srey Y.

Yelp
Clean and delicious! They are also very fast as well! Got the roasted creme brulee matcha and the torchiness was delicious.

Elisa L.

Yelp
Spacious indoors with many tables to sit at unlike some boba spots. I ordered the brown sugar milk and expected it to be sweet, but it was too sweet and I can taste the chunks of brown sugar syrup in the drink. I wouldn't get this drink again but maybe the others.

Allison L.

Yelp
Went on a Friday around 6PM and there was no wait to order, lots of space to sit inside. Ordered a brown sugar boba fresh milk 75% sugar and it was still a bit sweet for my liking. I believe it only comes in the large size as well. Overall taste was pretty good but there are better options around

Christina R.

Yelp
5* just for the grapefruit slushie. These are made to order, not spinning all day in a machine. I can really taste the grapefruit flavor. Texture os fantastic too-I love it Yes it's an indulgence at $7, but i deserve it today!

Derek C.

Yelp
Great tasting milk tea. All 50% sweet which was perfect. Gennaka helped us out and gave recommendations. The vibe here is great for chilling and studying.

Melissa L.

Yelp
I liked the fact that there were many choices that could be turned hot! Especially with cooler rainy days the hot milk tea feels so good! Prices is reasonable compared to other places. I just suggest to be cautious with the hot as it is super super hot. It took about 20 minutes before I could even try yo sip without scalding my tongue. Will be back!

Raffiele F.

Yelp
So I've been to Chakaa before but usually at nights it can get pretty busy and parking can be a little annoying, but their drinks are good, they make it with quality and the service is usually good as well. There's seating to chat and seating to wait for the drinks too. However, my boyfriend and I went today, on a Tuesday at 1:45pm. Their hours were even posted up that they were *supposed* to be open. We came almost 2 hours after said open time. But the door was locked and there was no one inside. We were pretty disappointed because it didn't make sense since the same hours were posted online. So please, Chakaa if you're not going to be open during the time stated please update it so we know not to waste our time coming.
