"Oak beams and brick walls abound in this former barn on the Wiston Estate winery, that now houses a smart restaurant. It’s named after the type of soil found in the area, which creates ideal growing conditions for the grapes and, as you would expect, you can accompany your meal with one of their own sparkling wines. The short, appealing menu changes with the seasons and offers fresh, straightforward flavours in harmonious combinations. Their generously sized house focaccia is a great way to start." - Michelin Inspector

A new venue for me to see a band but was quiet nice. I think the stage could be slightly higher raised so that its easier to see the band. All standing as far as I could tell. No bitter on tap alot of Brighton it seems has turned the taps off on it. Good sound quality of the band saw Sigrid acoustic set for the release of her 3rd album. Arrived later deliberately too avoid the queues excepted, they had set up a metal rail system weaving around Poole Valley. The outside security staff were very friendly and nice not always the case at venues. Would go their again if a band I wanted to see were playing their. Not a large venue this is what I like, around 800 capacity so quiet intimate setting which is nice. Went by train to be able to have a few beers, also parking in Brighton is difficult and not cheap. But they cancelled the 10:47pm & 11:10 and put a bus service on which took around an hour to get to the station I wanted in stead of 10mins. Nothing to do with the venue itself but just be aware of the travel experiences needed if you dont live in Brighton.

Chalk is a weird shape for a venue, and beware that bands are often on stage earlier than you might expect. Screens above the bar showing a feed of the performances helps create a space that's safe and fun for those aren't so fond of crowded rooms, and the sounds had always been good when I've visited. Support small venues!

I saw Lacuna Coil here on the 29th. Great place, staff were friendly and supportive, checked on me throughout the night when I looked a bit lost. I have a disability and they accommodated my extra needs. Loved the disco ball!! Only 4 stars because it is quite dirty and so so stuffy, they’re meant to have a ventilation system since Covid era but if there is it’s certainly not working sufficiently.

A great small venue in the middle of Brighton. Went to see Heaven 17, who were outstanding, and where ever you stand you can easily see the stage. Bar staff and entry staff very friendly. There are a couple of seats but generally this is a standing only venue.

Google
It’s an ok venue for gigs, sound quality is ok, I like the layout, the cute little lounge area at the back, tvs showing the stage on the back bar and on the upper deck, staff were good, drink selection very good. But, three stars because if it’s a sold out show, you better be near first in line, otherwise you can’t see shit, as I found out. They need to stick to hosting smaller underground artists

Never had an issue with the service and enjoyed many a great gig here, but really don't understand why it is such a popular value. I presume it is due to the capacity, but the venue being on a dog leg makes it such a disadvantage for viewing. As a "low end of average" height person, I can't see a thing unless right at the front, or on the balcony bit at the back, but then the beams in the ceiling cut off the top of the stage. Thankful for the TV screens to help for this exact issue, however this is second best to seeing the performers not via a screen. I'll keep going of course cos they host amazing bands and festivals, just had to get my gripe out!

Amazing night watching Tom Grennan do an intimate stripped back gig. It was rather hot though! Not sure if that's something they can address.

I popped down from South London for a gig on a Sunday evening. Surprisingly easy to get down on the M23. Surprised to find the parking in the area but still active on a Sunday evening. It cost me £7 to park the car. Plenty of places around to eat before the show. Gaining access was quite simple and efficient when it came to getting my tickets checked. The venue is ideal for intimate gigs. You get to enjoy the music up close and personal. The sound system is excellent. The bar serves the normal liquid fare. Not much to write home about. Definitely no Guinness. No crisps either. At least the toilet was clean. But then again I did come from the music. I was not disappointed. I will certainly return if I come across a band that perks my interest.
