"Chalos Express, a small kiosk version of the original Chalos brick-and-mortar, has joined the ranks of convenient grab-and-go lunch spots surrounding Salesforce Tower and the other nearby office buildings. And it’s built for speed. Choose from the 11 empanada flavors on a tablet, and your order, almost too hot to the touch, is ready in minutes. The fillings are flavorful, but they can be oily, and the crust tends to be a bit dry and brittle. For the best experience, get the carne dulce that’s juicy and slightly sweet. This SoMa spot is not somewhere you should plan your whole day around, but with breakfast pastries from Starter Bakery and free-flowing empanadas until 3pm every weekday, it’s a useful and efficient option. No seating here, but Salesforce Park is right across the street. Food Rundown Empanadas While snappy, the skin lacks moisture and flakiness. But the fillings do pick up a lot of the slack. The carne dulce is our favorite—the touch of sugar and spice balances out the richness of the beef. Just be sure to have some napkins handy, as the juices will immediately spill out after your first bite. Skip the espinaca con crema that’s bland and slightly watery. This place is the 💣! I just started a remodel of an office in the building above, and decided to find something to eat with my coffee, when I came across this place. I was about to order the empanadas when I saw that they had breakfast burritos, so I ordered one with sausage and brought it to my office, when I finally started eating it, I literally couldn't stop, the crispy tater tots inside were perfect and the flavor was amazing. The burrito is huge, so lately I've been getting their empanadas which two is usually sufficient unless you're really hungry then three tops me off. I highly recommend this place ⭐

Went in to order a breakfast burrito and it did not disappoint. Ingredients were perfect - tots crispy, pico de gallo fresh, and eggs had a great consistency. The tortilla held up well.

Chalos nailed it with their second location. Super friendly service and the empanadas are somehow even better than the first time I tried them. Quick, easy, and ridiculously good.

At first I was a little hesitant because you order on an iPad and it wasn’t as welcoming/smooth as expected. Once my order was in the staff were extremely helpful and fast! Then I tried the sweet beef empanada. The taste is unbelievable. The dough isn’t too heavy, light and warm. I will be back! Hopefully they bring breakfast burritos one day to this location.

Stopped by during the soft opening. They’re not fully open yet so they mostly only have the empanadas, but the empanadas are amazing. The best I’ve had in SF by a mile. I like the sweet beef the best, but mushroom is also a good option for non-meat folks. Highly recommend, looking forward to coming back and trying more!

Chalos is a gem. I visited their Sunset location several months back. They are truly a small business with a big heart. The food quality is great. The service warm. Proud to see them expand out to downtown. I wish them success.

Micro restaurant with a tiny storefront window. Though there's a pretty wide selection of empanadas and few breakfast burritos in the morning. Everything is pretty tasty and quite rich. Bacon Breakfast Burrito: Not an empanada. So much bigger than an empanada! Like seriously, I had 3/4 of this for breakfast and didn't even think about lunch until like 2pm. It's pretty simple with eggs, tater tots, cheese and bacon. The green salsa on the side adds some nice flavor, though isn't very spicy. Bacon Breakfast Empanada: Kinda like a mini version of the bacon breakfast burrito. Same mix of bacon, egg, cheese and tater tots. I enjoyed the pastry shell more than burrito wrap. However, the filling felt kinda puny in comparison. Ham & Cheese Empanada: Not a breakfast empanada, but it could be. Lots of ham and gooey cheese, that it's just so comforting. Against the pastry shell, it's like a fancy hot pocket. Beef Empanada: Pretty much what I would hope from an empanada. Lots of meat and flavor and veggie mix ins. I like that all the mix ins were finely chopped, so the tastes were evenly distributed in each bite. Kouign Amann w/ Pistachio Cream & Peach: Such a fancy breakfast pastry. Dense flaky shell with has a nice sweet edge to it. Inside some nice pistachio paste with cooked peaches, a really great combo.

Right under Sales Force tower; grab a quick bite for breakfast paired with a delicious coffee before you head to your office...the pier... salesforce park you name it! Chalos express deserves soo much more love and I'm so shook that there isn't enough reviews! I stumbled upon this after my usual gym routine and will definitely be making rounds here in the near future to try out the rest of their delicious empanadas! The staff are very friendly and definitely made my day :) This time around I got the sweet beef empanada & cheese + onion empanada! Both were perfectly flaked to perfection... golden, buttery and piping fresh! The sweet beef is a must have to order everytime; tender, juicy, and easy to bite into, I should've ordered a dozen for my self Also worth mentioning, VERY VERY affordable for something in downtown!

Ok so let's be absolutely ... you know that guy that throws his glasses after he tastes something good? Well that was 3 seconds away from happening and then in that 3 seconds I remembered how expensive my glasses were so I decided not to.... Every bite was a struggle to keep my glasses on my face cause it was that good! They were super fast at getting them out to me and I got a bakers dozen! Oooooo I can't wait to get the rest home to gobble them down! I could have sat there and ate it as they had a couple of tables but this is really meant for grabbing and going. But yes Yes Yes! Absolutely will be going back there!

A delicious empanada at the heart of downtown SF. They are so fast with their service - I think I ordered at the kiosk and got my food in less than 5 min. The empanada flavors are delish - I got the spicy beef and it honestly wasn't that spicy. As this is an express shop, they don't have the option of a fried empanada or their burritos. Strictly empanadas. Hopefully they will continue to expand their menu - either way, I'll def come back for a good snack.

So happy that Chalos opened in FiDi. This location currently sells only their empanadas, although I heard that their infamous breakfast burritos may be coming soon. I frequent their Taraval location and you literally cannot go wrong with any flavor. My personal favorites are the sweet beef, mushroom and cheese, and spinach and cheese. This is perfect for a work place lunch or if you need to bring food to a work event. It's just a takeout window and no seats, but luckily salesforce park is just a block away! The owners are also the sweetest!!

Such a cute new spot, I only got a carne empanada but am excited to try the spicy ones and also a spinach or mushroom next time! I kind of wish there was a sauce but such a great grab and go bite in the area.

Tried their spicy beef empanada and the cheese and ham empanadas and they were SO good!!! My fav was the spicy beef, the spices were just right. So glad to have this by the office.
