"There is no better place than Champlain to dive into the latest culinary trends. Chef Gabriel Molleur-Langevin (trained at Noma in Copenhagen and Fäviken in Åre, Sweden) offers elegant, minimalist food worthy of the imposing gastronomic heritage of the historic Le Château Frontenac, one of the most photogenic hotels in the world. Expect Japanese influences through fermentation as well as collaborations with local food producers." - Allison Van Rassel

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. The chef was brilliant. He came out and took care of us himself, explaining the cheese selection, taking our young budding chef in the group back for a tour of the kitchen. The food was incredible!!! Every course surpassed the last. Slow dining. Our delicious experience lasted a little over 3 hours. Beautiful, exquisite, light, tasty, filling. The service was amazing. Really friendly to English speakers, menu accommodating and servers genuine. Really felt that they wanted us to have a great evening, which we did. Restaurant has a gorgeous view from the front of the hotel overlooking the lake. Stunning. Very classy. We were a small family but there were several couples enjoying the romantic ambience.

Yelp
What an amazing meal. We were greeted with champagne upon arrival and waitress was so nice and patient. The room we sat in was beautiful. We settled on the 4 course meal with an appetizer of foie gras. The food was delicious and worth the price. Great cocktails as well.

Yelp
A Five-Star Anniversary Celebration We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Champlain, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The elegant atmosphere and attentive service from Marc-Andre set the perfect tone for the evening. Each dish was a masterpiece, starting with a fresh artic char that delighted our palates. The main course, a perfectly cooked venison filet, melted in our mouths, accompanied by exquisite sides- including fiddlehead which apparently has a very short season. Dessert was a decadent and the surprise extra local chocolates were a delightful extra special treat. Marc-Andre added a special touch to the impeccable service and extraordinary cuisine, providing a truly memorable, five-star dining experience that we will cherish forever.

Yelp
What a beautiful restaurant. Service was very good here. We were greeted with a glass of champagne upon our arrival. Someone, trying to assist our server, brought over a meal which included a dietary restriction. Our server was right on top of it to make sure it didn't reach our table and accidentally eaten. We were grateful for the quick intervention and that they were so diligent about meeting dietary needs. The food was tasty. We especially enjoyed the maple dessert.

Yelp
This is a tough one. Dinner for two and we were seated in The Library. We had a beautiful table overlooking the square, loved it. Tasting Menu was the only option, not sure if it is this way all the time. Service was super fast at the start of the meal, too fast. Courses were arriving almost as fast as we finished the course we were eating. We worried our six course dinner would be completed in less than an hour- which would not be good at these prices. Then, the dining room started to fill up and service went to a full stop. We sat. And sat. And then a bread course arrived (between course 4 and 5) it was odd. And we sat. More than an hour later was saw course 5 of 6. Food was inconsistent. Some courses were good, some meh and final main course, quail, was excellent. Dessert was mixed, it looked beautiful and tasted good but also much like it had been prepped some time ago. Also odd, we received our dessert and almost immediately thereafter we were served a couple of macaroons on a plate. The kind of thing you might receive after paying the bill. Those were also meh. So all in all, atmosphere was a 4, food a 2 and service a 2. Maybe a bad night but won't likely return.

Yelp
Beautiful space. Amazing service. The waiter did a great job engaging our hard to please 6-year-old. They also had nice touches like champagne when you are being seated (juice for the little one) and generally high class service feel. I felt like old British royalty for a minute. Food was good. My favorite was the starter. Beautiful salmon dish. The other dishes were good but can't say they were memorable. My husband ordered a drink with smoked Mazcal and they actually burned a piece of wood in front of us that created cool smoke over the drink. Definitely can't get smokier than that. The location is beautiful. It's a historic chateau in the old part of Quebec. It's beautiful and elegant. Taking a few steps down from the restaurant will lead into a historical museum that depicts the history of the city and French Canada in general. If you can, see if you could eat outside for dinner and you will be able to marvel onto city vistas of the water and a backdrop of sunset. do it for the experience of nothing else...

Alessandro G.

Yelp
It was an amazing experience. Something I do suggest to everyone to try. Yes it will be expensive maybe but still something to try in your vacation. The ambiance is amazing, elegant and old. Seems to be inside a museum. The service for the time you arrive to the time you leave is perfect. Any request they will always try to accommodate if possible. The dishes are explained extremely well and the wine pairing was amazing. Only one thing is that the amount wine is very low and I think for the price they should give more. Going to the food. The chef is a magician. Every dish is well cooked, cleaned, and you can literally feel every ingredient in that dish. From the appetizers down to the cake is like having a trip, all of this inside a castle.

Yelp
One of the worst pricey meal experiences I've had in recent memory. This restaurant is stuck in bygone days of fancy restaurants. On our recent trio to Montréal and québec we've gotten a chance to eat some mind blowing meals. Everything from 8 course wine paired dinners to chill French bistros. After 2 weeks of incredible meals we went to Champlain and dropped nearly $600 on a mediocre meal and horrendous service. Few basics. If I'm paying for a wine paired dinner and each course is paired with a glass of wine then you'd think theyd bring the wine with the course right? As a waiter in one of these restaurants or as a team of waiters you don't really have to do much. Mostly the waiter doesn't even being out the food and there is no placing orders as everyone is eating the same thing right? So how is that 2 of the 4 glasses that we're supposed to be paired didn't come till after we're already half way done with our plates? Water cup empty for 5-10 minutes at a time. We had a meal just yesterday at bouvette Scott and paid less than half to have one of the best meals and service we've ever had. Just because you have a restaurant in the famous chateau in a beautiful room doesn't elivate you from offering a service worthy of the price tag. The table next to us the guy got up to pour his wife and himself more wine. Their waitress stood there did nothing. The MANGER walked right by the table and also did nothing. Are you kidding me? Save your money and go to many of the other incredible restaurants in this city. This place is old and tired.

Julie M.

Yelp
One of the worst, most disappointing "fine-dining" experiences we have ever had. Beautiful views, below average service, and the food is mediocre at best (mostly mushy); the wine service is a joke. The meal is overpriced for what you actually get, which is uninspired, absurdly small portions, texturally bland, and not particularly tasty or interesting. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else in Quebec City for a delicious meal (and there are so many other and better choices, elegant and casual). Please save yourself money and time. And the sad capper of the meal... when you go to the bathroom -- it will be out of toilet paper -- just to add a drip dry experience to wrap things up,

Sara D.

Yelp
A total disappointment! We were truly expecting a fine dining experience. Instead our group of 9 were met w/confusing 3 or 7 or ? Course meals. That would not have been a problem accept those of us on the 3 course menu had to wait for the 7 course menu people to eat their way through their respective tidbits before we could receive our tidbit. After an hour of waiting for the main dish, I had to stand up to question this extended wait. I was met with this excuse. Not helpful and we'll make it right. My suggestion, when you look for a fine dining establishment in Quebec City, look elsewhere.

Hank Z.

Yelp
This is only for the room service, since we were staying at the Chateau Frontenac and dining in was not an option because all the restaurants were full. Since we had the $100 dining credit from amex, we ordered 2 entrees from Champlain, which was pretty much exactly $100. The beef cheek was delicious, and the lamb chop was just normal / fine. It is definitely on the pricier side but room service presentation was impeccable, with white table cloth, tall glasses and beautiful silverware. I would recommend room service over dining in if you want an extra intimate experience!

Wei C.

Yelp
We got reservations at this restaurant since we were hotel guests at the beautiful Chateau Frontenac. The restaurant is quite modern despite being inside a castle. There isn't a dress code enforced and the staff was really nice and friendly. The price is hefty and the food isn't a lot so our bill ended up being $500 for 4 people and we only had 2 drinks. We had the 5-course meal, the beef, the duck breast (which was delicious) and the pasta. The food came out slow, especially because we had to wait for our friend who had the 5-course meal (which came with 3 appetizers). In total we probably spent 3 hours there (we got there at 7:45 PM) and the restaurant was freezing because their AC was cranked up high. Overall good experience and great location. Food was delicious and expensive but worth a try if just for the experience. Their a la carte food is good but next time I'll probably try their 5 course meal. It comes with 3 appetizers, the main course and the dessert.

Yelp
Really nice experience at Champlain Restaurant. The environment is relax and quite. I got a seat near the window. The waiter is patient to introduce all courses and provide nice recommendations to drinks. Food are fantastic. The menu is a five course dinner and a salmon starter and an ice cream are also in the dinner. The taste of food formed a nice combination so you wouldn't feel greasy or salty for any courses.

Diana L.

Yelp
Very nice ambience and service. We got served a glass of champagne as we were seated at our table. Restaurant is decorated in a victorian vibe. Food is nicely presented and portions are fair. I was expecting a little bit more in terms of flavors though. In pictures below, there are scallops, lobster bisque, risotto and lamb steak. I can't remember what is the green soup :p. Scallops could've had some extra spices. Lobster bisque is a bit on the salty side and nothing too extraordinary with the risotto and lamb steak.

Robert G.

Yelp
Champlain is the best French bakery this side of the pond! Bakery items are authentic and absolutely delicious! This place is a must!!!

Yelp
It is said that it f you visit Quebec City, you must visit Chateau Fonternac for its rich history ...and if you visit the Chateau then you must have their world popular brunch at Champlain ! Reservations are booked out months ahead, so we did ours online. It's a but pricey IMHO but Truly an AMAZING experience and the food is incredible, the selection endless !!! If you're in QC this is a must go ! Here's more on it than I can ever describe :) https://www.fairmont.com/frontenac-quebec/dining/champlain/

Yelp
It was an amazing experience to eat such high quality food, beautifully designed, in a historic hotel. But! A little bit too pricey and the service was a bit off putting. First, they gave me free champagne walking in and i asked for a little bit more. Didn't know until the bill came out that they charged me $18 for like two sips worth. And then when i was done with the course meal, the server seemed very eager to get more tip it was a bit uncomfortable. We chose the most expensive course meal with the most expensive wine selection to go with our meal so i have nothing to complain about the food. Everything was fantastic. I think one time experience is good enough though. If you want a view of the water, make sure to make reservations months in advance! We made reservations only a few days prior and they seated us by the entrance.

Yelp
We, along with another couple traveled to Old Quebec back in October 2021 and made an reservation at Champlain for dinner during our stay at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. As soon as we walked in the restaurant they offered us champagne before being seated. We got to check out the impressive wine cellar/storage while sipping champagne. Then we were led inside the dining room and seated at a table by the window with water-river view. Comfortable seating, nice and quite ambiance in the outer dining room. Our server was friendly and informative. We ordered the Braised Wild Hare, Cipolini Mushroom Veloute and Foie Gras Platter To Share as appetizers. For main course, one friend and I both opted for Les Fermes Hudson Duck, my hubby had the Deer Loin and the another friend ordered the Catch Of the Day(think it was Cod Fish). Beautiful presentations and everything was delicious. A bit pricey yes but definitely quality and flavorful food. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed both our dinner and the atmosphere at Champlain.

Robert M.

Yelp
Very expensve for poor food. We have dined at more expensive places, but they were Michelin Star. We had much better food in Montreal, and hope to have better as we stay in Quebec City. Skip this restaurant.

Rebecca T.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, nice dining area, very friendly and helpful staff, everything you would expect in a 5-star hotel restaurant. However, I just wish the food was better for the price. I'd give it maybe 3.5 stars but definitely not a 4. But if you're a first-timer to visit Québec, you should definitely try it out just for the sake of it. I am so glad my friend took me here because it's awesome to have a meal in this grand hotel, but I probably would not come back if I am town again because it's pricey for what it is! I remember the best thing was probably the beef wellington, the conch meat cold appetizer, the soup, the croissants and all the small bites of desserts delicately crafted by the pâtisserie chef(s)! I thoroughly enjoyed them. However, I was expecting a bit more for the price we paid, maybe more seafood, sushi that was more presentable and fresh, and more elaborate main dishes. We still had a great time here and fond memory of the restaurant and the city. I'd recommend coming here for a brunch if you're here to visit for the first time. It was between OK and I'm a fan, not bad but not the best for value.

Michael S.

Yelp
Terribly overpriced for the quality of the food. Do not eat here. Also service was not good and the staff was rude.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Amazing fine dining experience. Every course was better than the one before, and very innovative. A kombucha slush with berries was a delight and we're still talking about it!

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Came here for their Sunday Brunch without a reservation and they were able to fit us in almost right away. They said we were lucky so I think I would recommend a reservation to be safe, but if not, give it a shot. Wife is a cheese lover so she loved their cheese room. They had a nice spread of their cheeses in the buffet as well. Buffet itself had a little something for everyone. Eggs and pasta to order. Lamb and beef Wellington at the carving table. Eggs Benedict, bacon, sausage, and a number of other traditional breakfast offerings. Salad and veggies table. Raw fish area with sushi, salmon, shrimp, etc. Pastry area with some amazing muffins and croissants. They even had a huge spread of desserts and a candy table for the kids. Not everything was the 'best ever', but everything was pretty high quality. I even ordered some pineapple juice which seemed freshly squeezed with some pulp in it. There's some character to the restaurant as well with some really cool decor. I even learned what a jackalope was (go ahead and search the restaurant for him). Overall, a fantastic choice for a high quality brunch.

Paul R.

Yelp
Since the new kitchen team took over, the quality of food at a Champlain has been elevated dramatically! To be honest, if Michelin were awarding stars in Canada (they aren't,) Champlain would have one (maybe two.). The spring tasting menu we had in June 2022 was spectacular. Service was amazing, presentations were exquisite, and the food was astoundingly good. My wife has Celiac, and the attention and care in making our meal gluten-free was wonderful. As a bonus, I felt that the quality received was a bargain! Any other restaurant offering this style of high-end dining would be charging more. If you can get a table along the window, the view of the river is gorgeous! Needless to say, Champlain has now earned a 5-star review.

Christine C.

Yelp
We had a group of 12 (5 adults and 7 children from ages 1 to 11) for dinner at Restaurant Champlain. 5 star treatment from the start at the door. Champagne for adults and sparking cider for children and private room for our dining experience. Totally unexpected to have a private room. View of the boardwalk and St. Lawrence River. Service from the staff was top notch. They accommodated our English speaking with English explanation and menu. Adults had 5 course Chef Modat pre-fixe dinner. Every dish was prepared with artistic creation and heart and soul. Kids has a la carte from kids' menu. Red wine selections and local cheese platter were delicious. Ambience and atmosphere were 5 star!!! I highly recommend Restaurant Champlain for one of the kind and one of the lifetime experience when visit Quebec. I will be sure to return if I am in Quebec City!

Lotus B.

Yelp
We decided to reserve Champlain on our first night in Quebec. We were staying at Le Château Frontenac, so we wanted to stay close for our first evening. We were given the welcome glass of prosecco with black currant and seated at a fireside table. We considered ordering the Christmas menu, which highlighted seafood. Instead, we decided to share two appetizers and two mains. We ordered: Red deer tartar from St-Jean de Brebeuf - Suvalik, daisy button, wild mushrooms mousse & " Monna et filles" blackcurrant ketchup - $19 Smoked arctic char - Jean-François' black garlic and wild shrimps tile, sunflower shoots & kohlrabi vinaigrette - $22 Iceland cod - Herbs and nuts from Cap Tourmente crust, Jerusalem artichoke and leeks veloute & burned onions oil - $37 Scallops from the St. Lawrence Gulf - Risotto tube with Stimpson clams from Magdalen Islands, Spinach and garlic oil pesto & Laiterie Charlevoix's Hercule cheese chips - $45 We were guaranteed that the food could be made gluten and dairy free. They even promised to bring gluten free bread to the table. The highlight was the cod, but the artichoke, leeks, and onions were the best part of the dish. They were fresh and flavorful, even being dairy free. One noticeable flaw was they forgot to bring the gluten free bread, and as there were no other grains in the dishes, it all felt very heavy and lacking balance. However, our server was kind enough to offer us a glass of wine on the house as an apology for forgetting the bread. Overall, the meal was one of our favorites in Quebec, and we were impressed by the warm, yet unintrusive service. We liked the privacy our table afforded, and the layout of the restaurant is perfect for a date night or quiet meal.

Cymba C.

Yelp
rather disappointing set dinner consisted of three courses, one of which was, for me, inedible. to top it off the hostess, for reasons best known to herself, refused to seat us in the preferred area, saying the vacant tables were reserved although the sat vacant during our meal.

Ronalyn D.

Yelp
We celebrated our 45 anniversary here. It was the perfect choice! The service remains par none , reservations is a must, especially once the new Chef Hugo Coudurier, is known. The ambiance is majestic, the view unforgettable. The down side is the cost. However if you want to splurge and engage in an amazing experience, this is it. The menu is now "Prefixed" with a choice of of two items in a four course menu. I was saddened by this because I was looking forward to having Foie Gras, and it wasn't on the menu and the dessert choices were not of my liking either. Our Server however, indicated no problem she would check with the Chefs and with my input I had the dining experience of my dreams it was delicious!!! Outstanding!!! My husband and I only missed live entertainment with a jazz combo and vocalist . We had however fireworks and the sidewalk entertainers below which brought us gladness and a fitting end to our amazing 45yr celebration !

Oh N.

Yelp
If you are visiting Quebec, you must do yourself a favor by having a meal here. We did the brunch and well, best brunch ever? :) What did bug us was the fact that Mimosa was offered without letting us know that it was $15 (CAD) each. In Los Angeles area mimosa is generally included with the brunch so we had no idea. We would NOT have ordered $15 mimosa if we had known, since we aren't much of drinkers to begin with. Aside from that little bump, so much experience packed into one dining experience. Highly recommended.

Brooke B.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. The ambiance, cousins, and service are impeccable. We had the prefix menu with wine paring. Each dish was wonderfully balanced and had exquisite tastes, as well as cooked perfectly. The only issue I had was with the lavender sorbet which was for a pallet cleanser--it tasted to soapy and I could not taste the ginger. Other than that very minor note, the food is worth coming back for as it is a true celebration of the voluntary arts and each dish selected was perfectly executed! I would definitely recommend and come back to eat when visiting!

Laura G.

Yelp
Very disappointed by our brunch visit to Le Champlain. They called us two days before to ask us if they could change our reservation time to 12:30 instead of 1pm. We agreed and arrived to find that they had lost our reservation (luckily we had email confirmation!). We ended up waiting 30 min to our regular scheduled time before being seated. Once seated our server came over and introduced himself, but then very pointedly told me to please put my napkin in my lap, which was a bit much (I hadn't so much as sipped my water yet). Not the great service I had expected! Add this to a somewhat underwhelming meal and I don't think we will be returning to Le Champlain. Many other good restaurants in Quebec City with better food and more professional service (not to mention a functioning reservation system).

Janet H.

Yelp
Delicious dinner. The tasting menu for dinner is actually of really great value! Be sure to visit the cheese room and sample bits of cheese.

Leila H.

Yelp
Do NOT go there for dinner/supper. I really do not understand what all the hype is about. Quebec has sooo many restaurant choices, please do not add this one to your list. I have not tried the tasting menu so I can't say anything about it but I did have their fish of the day and the dessert. Yes the service is impeccable but we waited an hour and half for our meal, so long that our waiter apologized. It was a Sunday and it was not even busy. Now lets talk food; nothing surprising, tasteless, using some cold green tea sauce with my fish was a big failure. I've been to fine restaurants but the 200$+ spent for two with 2 main course, 2 dessert and drinks was so not worth it. Please make yourself a favour and eat somewhere else, you're just paying for the name

Y W.

Yelp
I was disappointed by both the service and the food at Champlain. Both were mediocre at best. The food was nothing special. We ordered the mixed baby green salad which literally tasted like we were just eating grass and plants with a little bit of olive oil on top. In fact, we couldn't finish it. Our server didn't question it and simply cleared our plates. Our server was not rude, but did not really pay any special attention to us either. He just did the bare minimum and it was really the type of service you could get at any regular restaurant. Definitely not "Fine dining" level service. For our main, my mother chose the scallops with risotto and I had the caribou. Now as expected the Caribou tasted very gamey. Aside from that, I don't recall it having any special flavors. It was not memorable at all. The scallops were much the same, and my mother didn't care for the overly salty cheese chips. All in all, it was a highly disappointing meal. Final Verdict: I would not recommend. It simply isn't worth the high price you are paying.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Beautiful interior, food was superb (they can customize any cake if you call in advance, the mango keylime cheesecake I requested was better than what i've tried before!), and service was great. We felt that we were given much care and attention during our dinner. there are many charming restaurants in town, but this one is just grand and elegant.

Maggie L.

Yelp
Excellent service! They gave us complimentary champagne when we checked in and their amuse bouche was very interesting. The octopus appetizer had an avant-garde presentation but that didn't stop it from tasting good. Our steaks were also delicious, it was juicy and the side veggies were excellent. The dessert platter was worth it since we get to try three in one go. Didn't get prefixes but was still able to enjoy a great variety and be full! Great restaurant that lives up to its name in the ever glorious Chateau Frontenac for sure.

Sammie S.

Yelp
If I could give more than five stars then I would. We had an exceptional experience at afternoon tea today. We arrived early for our reservation and they seated us at a lovely table with a beautiful view. The restaurant was spacious and pristine. The servers went far and beyond for my daughter's egg allergy. She had her own tray full of things she could eat and when it came to dessert they brought her sorbet and chocolate mousse cake, offering her as much as she wanted. She loved it. The adults tea was perfect in every detail. I loved that they allow buffet style for the sweets portion. :) The glasses on the dessert table are unidentified, but upon tasting are incredible lemon curd type mousse. The choux pastry is filled with regular and maple flavored cream. Sucre a la Creme a yummy regional touch.

Nina W.

Yelp
Quaint spot inside Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. Enjoyed the decor and ambiance. We were greeted with sparkling wine upon entry, which was a lovely and welcoming touch. Service was okay, although slow and the waiter for the table beside us had a better command of English. I noticed this mid-way through dinner because they received better featuring of the menu. Also, I requested no cheese/ milk products and that was ignored or not understood. I had the scallops, which were perfectly cooked. They came with gnocchis, which were covered in cheese. It didn't seem to match the menu in that chick peas were described, but mushrooms were delivered, although I enjoyed the pesto. I had a sorbet variety (3) for desert and it was very tastey. I'm really glad I found it on the 'Little Chef' menu. Portions are very small, it was very pricey and I left feeling like I could have had more.

Yoori S.

Yelp
I had the tasting menu. The entire meal was well balanced. Started off with hors d'oeuvres: fish, red deer tartare, and foie gras. Fish was moist and the mushroom paste was umami. Red deer tartare was tender and not games at all. Foie gras was so buttery that it needed nothing else to make it better. But the berry sauce added tartness to even out the foie gras. The meal even included a lightly peppermint flavored sorbet before the main course to cleanse your palette. As main, duck steak/filet was perfectly rare, but seared enough that it was slightly crispy on the outside. For dessert, pumpkin sponge cake with carrot, ginger, orange sorbet. Not too holiday-ish because the pumpkin flavor was mild and the sorbet was refreshing.

Brian B.

Yelp
If this picture doesn't say it all?!? Omg. Scallops, fillet, gnocchi. Service. Wine. One of the greatest meals and experiences ever.

Steeve F.

Yelp
I went there to celebrate my wife's birthday... last time we came to Quebec City, we went to the restaurant St-Amour and I wanted something similar. First off, it's in the Château Frontenac, which is beautiful. They have a parking, which is kinda far from the restaurant to my taste.... Aside from the parking, everything was amazing! The service, the food... highly recommended.

Craig H.

Yelp
An aspirational fine dining restaurant with very good food and pleasant professional service. But it did not quite hit the mark as great. My elk was a tad over done. My wife's lamb was under done. For the price both should have been perfect. Don't get me wrong. They were good and the city view was engaging. But not Michelin star worthy just yet.

Adam S.

Yelp
My wife and I came to Quebec City for our first wedding anniversary and were staying at the Chateau Frontenac in the heart of Old Quebec. We knew we wanted our final dinner in the city to be something very special and so we searched the web in hopes of finding the perfect restaurant. We knew that the Chateau Frontenac had a high-end restaurant in the hotel itself, but I was a little hesitant since I wasn't sure if the high prices were because it was a genuinely good restaurant, or simply because it was the hotel restaurant at a high-end hotel. It turns out my fears were totally unwarranted. Our experience at Champlain was everything we could have asked for. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and we were seated near the windows with a lovely view of the courtyard. Our waiter was both funny and charming and helped make the night memorable. Of course the most important part is the food though, and that was absolutely outstanding. We wanted to save room and skipped ordering an appetizer but we had an incredible little amuse bouche, which featured caviar (my first time ever having it, and needless to say I'm a fan). My wife an I both ordered the beef tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection, and full of flavour. Quite possibly the best bit of beef I've ever had. The sides were equally delicious. The portion sizes seemed small at first, but we both remarked how when we finished it was actually the perfect amount; we both were satisfied but didn't feel overly full and bloated. It also meant room for dessert. I tried the "creme brûlée bar" which was quite tasty and my wife had the "all chocolate" dessert, which she absolutely loved. All in all, the perfect dinner to end our lovely mini-vacation to Quebec City. Yes, it was pricey, but the food was delicious, the service marvellous, and worth the splurge for an unforgettable evening.

Yelp
Can't believe no one has yelped about Le Champlain yet! Here's yet another FTR!!! Oui oui!!! Dining at this super posh French Canadian restaurant was the highlight of my trip in Quebec! C'etait vraiment magnifique!! Located inside the famous Le Chateau Frontenac hotel overlooking the St-Lawrence River, this elegantly decorated old world dining room will definitely make your day very special. If you want to celebrate a special occasion, this is THE PLACE!!! chandeliers: check! flowers and candles: check! romantic view of the river: check! dress code(dress smart!): check! great service: check! fancy presentation:check! quality meal: check! You have the perfect setting for a romantic dinner. If you still can't make your GF fall in love with you, then it's you, not the restaurant. We decided to do $125 for 2 persons "First Nations Special Menu", which consisted of the following: 1)First Peoples bannock 2)First Nations smoked salmon flavored with herbs, cold corn emulsion 3)Huron-Wendat traditional soup 4)Red deer spare ribs with molasses and maple 5)creme brulee 6)A bottle of Jackson-Triggs Esprit 7)coffe/tea Featuring mostly regional ingredients such as game meat, maple syrup, Quebecoise cheese, etc., you get to enjoy various nouvelle and regional cuisine. Everything was beautifully prepared, and I especially loved the red deer spare ribs!! Although it was my first time eating deer meat, the way they prepared it was tasty! C'etait si bon!! Mmmm!! I also recommend ordering a selection of Quebecoise cheese. Sooo good!!! Overall the appetizers were a bit weak, but I'm gonna be generous and give 5 stars because I had a fabulous time. Make sure you save some room for the gigantic creme brulee..... it's the biggest creme brulee you'll ever see!! Even if you can't afford to stay at Le Chateau Frontenac, I highly recommend you dine here!! Totally worth your money!

Yelp
We did the brunch at the hotel. Up front I'd like to say I more of a lunch person than a breakfast person. So I avoid the whole typical breafasty bacon, sausage, eggs, French toast deal. They did look good though especially this thin triangular French toast with maple syrup. Anything seafood seems to be popular with the crowd too, cocktail shrimps and scallops were flying. What I liked -Cheese table, you have to take notes to write the sheer variety of cheeses available to self-slice from. Probably around 10 different types. Tres cool. -Croissants. Soft inside but an edge crisp flakiness. Done proper. -The chicken fingers - yes that's right from the kids table with the pogos (corn dogs), pizza and jello -Dynamite Rolls (maki), yup another surprise was okay with the wasabi from the toothpaste squeeze bottle. lol -Silverware -Beef Wellington and Lamb, good as expected. -Professional service, available at a moments notice and friendly. It's up there $$$$, but anything inside the old town is about $25 a dish.

Yelp
My husband and I had dinner here a few nights ago; we had received a gift certificate for the restaurant as a wedding gift, and I am so happy that we did! Our waiter was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. He was happy to speak English with us, but had a little fun at our expense when we attempted to order in French. It was good-natured teasing and made us smile. We each started with soup; Mark had parsnip and tomato soup garnished with basil oil and a sweet garlic dumpling. It wasn't the best soup he'd ever had, but he did enjoy it. I had leek and sweet pea soup garnished with lobster, smoked bacon and mushrooms. Best. Soup. Ever. The soup was thick and hearty, the lobster was sweet and tender, and the bacon was crispy and salty...what an excellent combination! After the soup, we were served the most delicious chocolate sorbet; I should mention that things move slowly here, but this is definitely a good thing. I appreciated having time to do a little digesting between courses. In addition, a man came around with a bread basket featuring 4 or 5 different types of bread/rolls, and he was very liberal with the extra servings. The breads were delicious and as strange as this may sound, the butter was the best we've ever tasted! For my main course, I had medallions of veal with morel cream, served with crispy parsnips and herbed mashed potatoes. The veal was cooked perfectly; slightly charred on the outside, but tender and juicy inside. The sauce was the perfect compliment to the veal, and the parsnips were wonderful dipped in the sauce. Mark had guinea fowl with maple cream, served with shiitake risotto, foie gras and assorted vegetables. The meat was delicious (so says Mark...I am a lot less adventurous than he is, and wouldn't touch guinea fowl with a ten-foot pole). The risotto and vegetables were also excellent. Despite feeling stuffed, we ended with dessert; chocolate mousse which was incredibly dense and perfectly bittersweet. Le Champlain is definitely a "special occasion" restaurant, and it is absolutely worth the time and cost. It was the highlight of our honeymoon.

Yelp
We tried the tasting menu, at $99 a head, and it was a very good deal. Courses were good. Food was well-prepared. The seating was comfortable, and we had a view of the terrace even though it wasn't right by the window. Service was not quite up to par though. Nothing really wrong, but our server was not particularly attentive. Water took a long time to be refilled. At the end when I had finished my coffee, he asked if I wanted more coffee. I answered yes, but he never did come back with more coffee. As we were leaving, we walked by him and he didn't even look up. My wife said thank you to him, and without even looking up he just mumbled something in return. That's after we had left a good tip. What gives? So, overall, the food was good. Seating was good. Service, well, not quite there. As a frequent Fairmont guest, I felt kind of let down.

Yelp
Unfortunately, pretension spoils the overall experience. The very good kitchen's preparations are delicious, and the views of the city and landscape from the outer room are exceptional. Given the high level of creativity, lack of pretense, and far lower prices elsewhere, from younger restauranteurs in Quebec City, Champlain is outdated. One really overpays for eating in this famous hotel, which has become overrun with tourists in shorts and t-shirts. If you want true elegance, it has left the building.
