Google
I have always loved this placed. But the last year or so it feels like they have paired down the spice levels. I’ve gotten level 4 and Thai spicy recently and the pad Thai and tom yum seem sweeter and more lemon grasses oriented. Wish there was a way to get the spice levels back to what it was. The Tom Yum used to be a deep red and now is a lemongrass soup. Thinking maybe they changed management or cooks.

Google
Fantastic food at a decent price and was ready by the time I got there. My husband got the F3 Crispy Garlic Chicken which was phenomenal, my mom got the C1 Red Curry which she said was amazing, and I got the F5 Garlic Garlic (with extra garlic) and pork, it wasn't bad but it wasn't my favorite. Lots of veggies, was hoping for more whole garlic, the pork was good but I liked my husband's chicken better. The A1 Crispy Egg Rolls were really really good, and the A2 Golden Bags were probably my favorite thing that I tried - absolutely mouth-watering.

Google
Delicious food, Fast service and great ambience. The servings were huge! The Garlic Chicken was really good but it was meant to be paired with fried rice. It still tasted amazing with white rice but my husband ordered their Chang Thai Fried rice so I was able to try it and it was DELICIOUS. Overall, it was an amazing experience.

Tasha W.

Google
The food was really good, loved the smoky taste to the dishes and also they make it in gluten free alternatives. Love it! Got the pad see weu -wide rice noodles with beef, traditional fried rice with pork. Meat was not over dried and was just done perfectly!

Marsha J.

Google
Our new favorite Thai food place! So happy we "discovered" Chang Thai Cuisine recently. Ordered the Golden Bags appetizer, Panang Curry, Garlic Chicken, and Thai Ice Tea. The Golden Bags are absolutely delicious!! Wished we'd ordered some to take home. The Panang ( at spice/heat level 1) was perfect! The Garlic Chicken was also amazing. My kid loved the Thai Ice Tea too- took some to go after dining in. Lunch special is a great value!! Restaurant's interior is very clean and decorated beautifully. Waitress very nice and attentive. We will definitely be back!

Matt B.

Google
Crispy garlic chicken wasn't very Crispy flavor was ok and spice level 5 isn't very spicy. Red curry was ok. Pad Thai was alright i have had better. Prices were great.

Google
Easily my favorite Thai restaurant in the Tacoma area. I stopped in this evening and tried something new based on the owner’s recommendation; Tom. He presented me with the most delicious Chicken & Avocado curry. I’m not usually a fan of curry, but this one was the best I have ever had at a Thai restaurant. Big pieces of chicken balanced by smooth avocado. This business is without a doubt worthy of your support during these tough times. The food is great, and the staff is top notch. I will definitely return the next time I visit the area!

Google
I had the Crispy Garlic Chicken. Spicy level 3. Add Jasmine Rice. It was Delicious! My mom had the Tofu with Veggies Lunch Special. We shared the Steam Dumplings appetizer. I will definitely be coming back here.

Yelp
Chang Thai is the real deal. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection--every dish hits. You can tell there's care and consistency in everything that comes out of the kitchen. Tom, the owner, is an absolute boss. He runs the place with so much pride and makes everyone feel welcome the moment they walk in. His energy and attention to detail set the tone for the whole restaurant. Chang Thai isn't just where you go for Thai food--it's where you go for a great experience all around. Easily one of my favorite spots.

Yelp
Love their curry and pad Thai. Go to place for Thai food in Lakewood. Very friendly staff and owners.

Yelp
We live close by and this is our go to Thai restaurant in the area. For the typical Thai dishes, they are pretty authentic and the spice level is good. I usually get the basil lamb and my spouse the yellow curry. Their fish cakes are pretty legit for a light snack.

Yelp
Got take out and was ready on time Got pad Thai and crab Rangoons and both were good but the crab Rangoons were the best I've ever had

Ho H.

Yelp
Since covid, I've steadily become less impressed with this place. It used to be my go-to. Cheap filler veggies (carrots, cabage, onion) have taken the place of beans, mush, and broccoli. What is super disappointing, which most Thai places have started doing, is the change to their Thai iced tea. They've substituted sweetened condensed milk with something gross. It's no longer sweet, it's dark, no longer creamy. $7 down the sink.

Yelp
I have only ordered Chang Thai through takeout or delivery services and they always deliver their food very deliciously and accurately. I ordered from their Tacoma location more often but recently had takeout in their Lakewood location. They are one of the only Thai restaurants that actually know how to ensure that your spice levels are going to be felt as I always order 4 here and it is always met the spiciness that I desire. I appreciate that they don't just sprinkle red pepper flakes but actually work the spiciness into the dishes as well. I have ordered their rama noodle, pad kee mao, pad see ew, and pad thai and they have always delivered. I also love that they have a combination of meats that you can add for a bunch of meats (chicken, pork, beef and shrimp). You can tell from the Google reviews that the owner does his best to make your experience good if you tell him about it and I think that really shows his passion and dedication to his restaurant. I hope to one day dine in and will continue supporting them as one of the better restaurants in Washington.

Yelp
Food was slightly above average. The sticky mango rice was really great tho! Service was average. They could really improve the atmosphere tho. Seemed like all the furniture came out of an old diner it was not great and kinda beat up. I would go back if I was in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
google avatar

Tony T.

Yelp
We did takeout from here and the food was really good. Generous portions for the price and quick service. We had the chicken pad Thai, chicken panang curry, and the dumplings. The pad Thai was packed in the box, I had it for another meal after!
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
Meh, Ordered take out. Small dishes no flavor, 2 dollars for a TEENY side of rice. didn't fill up anyone

Sharon W.

Yelp
been going here since they opened. dine in, or out, the food is always consistently good!! my only problem is... they're within walking distance of home. it may be a small place but always clean, and the service is always pleasant. never a bad seating. do go and enjoy this place.
google avatar

Tornadoroo K.

Yelp
We ordered via Grub Hub and picked up. Worked great and the food was excellent. We ordered the yellow curry with chicken and the Fried rice with chicken. Pretty boring you may think, but Chang Thai prepares it so well it's our favorite order. Always well prepared and the service polite, friendly and fast. We were extremely happy with the entire experience.
google avatar

Yelp
I have tried so many Thai restaurants and not all are good. But Chang Thai is consistently great food! It's family owned and ran! The whole family are apart of the business and they have great customer service! It's a small restaurant but full of love!
google avatar

Erin J.

Yelp
Good portions good price good spice! Definitely a great replacement for the last location.
google avatar

Mog V.

Yelp
Outstanding. The service is outstanding. The bathrooms are spotless and the food is without question some of the best Vietnamese food in the Pacific Northwest. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Sara V.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with a lot of ventilation and fans. The waiters are attentive and very kind. We got garlic chicken and pad thai. Everything was fresh and the spiciness was spicy! Happy that they listen to the stat spice levels. This restaurant is family owned and has comfortable vibes. They were playing light jazz and the Sunday night crowd was chill.

Marie W.

Yelp
It's amazing every time I come here, the food is made perfectly and the sauce and they make it gluten free options for me every time! Love it!
google avatar

Saori T.

Yelp
The service was good, the ambience is pretty standard - booths with paper napkins. It is very casual in nature. There were more takeout clients than dine in. The food was excellent, they nailed the 2.5 star not being overly spicy. We really enjoyed the pad thai, I know it is such a basic dish but they did it well! Really enjoyed our dinner.
google avatar

Pearla L.

Yelp
This is definitely a hole in the wall but the quality of food is so good! It's hard to find a good Thai place that isn't overly experienced & they nailed it! Love going here & the service is A1
google avatar

Janai F.

Yelp
I am literally disgusted. We went to get chicken yellow Curry and this chicken dish. It's absolutely horrible. I took one bite of the chicken and literally spit it out of my mouth. Horrible taste and extremely tough almost grizzly. I'm very disappointed after spending $40!! On these items rice and a fresh roll.
google avatar

Terrill D.

Yelp
Love this place! I keep coming back over and over again. Such a wide variety of options to choose from just bursting with flavor!
google avatar

Yikhwan D.

Yelp
I have been here twice in the past month, so I decided to write a little review. First, their service is good. I mean, hard to judge during Covid, but they have always had my food ready to go by the time they said it would be ready. As for the food, i am a huge fan except for their pad see ew. When I get food from here, I always get 4 dishes to share with my fam. And each time their pad see ew was really salty. (Good flavor tho, so mix a little rice and its still thumbs up) some of their other foods are on the saltier side too, but not unmanageable. Otherwise, their food is good. Beside the fact that it's the only Thai food place near by, I like their food enough to comeback again.
google avatar

Yasmin M.

Yelp
Last straw! Placed an order on door dash when I hit Dupont, while driving home from Oly. Arrived in perfect time. No notification that my order is ready, time was bumped out a bit. It's happened before at other establishments, so no biggie. When the next revolution of 10 minutes went by and still no notification, I decided to go in. There sat my order. Get home, break into my Pad Thai. Looks weird. Very light. Huge portion. Lime seems like it's already been juiced. Weird... Meat to noodle ratio is poor. Does not taste like peanut sauce. Very sweet. NO SPICE. Why give a spicy option if you're not going to make it spicy?? Location is convenient but I'm not wasting anymore money here.
google avatar

Leah A.

Yelp
Here's my breakdown of Chang Thai: Service- quick and attentive Thai Iced Coffee & Thai Tea- great! Neither were too sweet nor heavy on the cream, but rather nicely balanced with sufficient coffee and tea flavor coming through Pad See Ew- I've definitely had better pad see ew elsewhere, but it wasn't bad by any means. Just a bit on the salty side and lacking depth in flavor (but maybe that's because they refrain from using MSG?) Tom Yum Soup- yum! Generous portion of noodles and the soup was quite delightful in taste and texture Prices- pretty standard prices for a thai place... expect to pay an average of $12-$14 for entrees

Yelp
The food here is phenomenal. It's a quant little restaurant that has absolutely amazing variety of Thai food. The dishes are bursting with flavors. Service is fast and the employees are cheerful. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone craving true authentic Thai food in Lakewood.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
Decent place to order quick Thai takeout in Lakewood. I would not recommend any of their noodles dishes (yes, I know us Americans prefer Pad Thai and Pad See Ew). What I would recommend is their Pumpkin Curry and other rice dishes.
google avatar

Brent C.

Yelp
Great Thai food! Quick service and the food is always really at designated pickup time.

Angela B.

Yelp
Food is very delicious! Service was ok. Good, not bad but not great either. Inside was horrible. Flies everywhere, dead insects on the walls, spider webs and honestly, it's like a hoarder lives in the restaurant. I'm not sure if they ran out of storage or if they were just too lazy to store things elsewhere. These things make me wonder what the kitchen is like...
google avatar

Fishio B.

Yelp
Not feelin the love from this joint. Must try another local Thai spot. Pork overcooked, spicy without the taste, just red peppered! Ordered out.
google avatar

Yelp
Unfortunately I really wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars because they were so nice to my son. But it has to do with marketing. We came in on a Monday at 1230 for lunch special, and we were told they were not doing the price because it's holiday - it's Presidents' Day. Sorry, I believe businesses should honor what is written. Also rice is an additional cost, which is common for a majority of Thai restaurants. I ordered a cashew chicken and my friend ordered the pad Thai. The cashew chicken was a small portion for being non lunch. It was also watery, please look at picture. My friend said her pad Thai was delicious, and she's pregnant so I'm very happy she was satisfied. This restaurant is 5 stars towards children. So we will be going back and hopefully I can increase their rating to 5 stars with the next dish.

Yelp
What a wonderful addition to the Lakewood Community. My hope is that this restaurant will survive. I walked in iI was immediately pleased with the interior-not a cold bare place ample seating nice and clean place to sit and eat. Very polite people to serve you. This is all prior to looking at the menu. After looking at the menu and the featured dishes - I smiled to myself. I love sticky rice they have it - papaya salad they have it. Yes, I am excited. I see the appreciation of the owners. They have posted flyers and even set up a board to thank patrons. Beautiful to see how appreciative they are. We all work for our money and they are simply saying thank you. Prices are good - a bit on the higher end but the food is delicious and that is why I will become a loyal customer. Now I say Thank you Chang Thai for coming into our neighborhood.

Yelp
I ordered the red curry beef, two eggrolls and coconut chicken . The coconut chicken was very very good. Puts a smile to my face reminiscing on the taste... 10 minutes ago lol. The red curry was pretty good too. Lots of flavor and...........yea! I would go back just for the coconut chicken though lol.

Yelp
Chang Thai is a nice little gem. There's a fair amount of seating inside but we have always done take out. They are always very friendly and accommodating, even when it's busy for them. The food is flavorful and their selection is decent too. I don't do well with spicy however; the cook does seem to be passionate about his creations, even when mild is requested. Overall this is one of our favorites and we have eaten here many times!

Cece C.

Yelp
The food was terrible, I've had some had pad Thai plenty of times and it's not supposed to taste like this the noodles were super chewy they barely put any chicken in it and it taste sour The service was polite and the place looked clean.
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
You never really know how much items cost because they don't update their menus and simply put up a sign up saying there is new menu prices. It's been like this for awhile! And it doesn't help when you call in an order from their to-go menu and get quite the price hike when you arrive. Also, items always seem to be missing from the dishes I order. For instance, tonight my yellow curry had no potatoes in it. Normally I might look past it, but it's starting to be every time I order. Last time my mushroom dish had regular mushrooms and barely any at that, not the mushroom medley described. The food isn't bad, it's just inconsistent and you want to feel like you are getting what you pay for and what is described.

Sam M.

Yelp
I'm good on this place, grabbed a pick up order for my girlfriend. got home and there was hair in the food, portions were small and mostly vegetable. like come on man, 25$ for garlic tofu and two spring rolls and there was 7 pieces of wack tofu in the container. Food was bland and looked like slop.
google avatar

Brittany D.

Yelp
I have been here a couple times for a quick lunch. I'm not as adventurous with Thai food, but I do love the lunch specials including the chicken pad, Thai and the spring rolls. The restaurant is pretty nice although the booths are not reinforced, and I tended to sink down into them. I have also ordered takeout and my friend ordered the food so I tried a bunch of different things that I wouldn't have normally tried and they were really good.
google avatar

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
Decided to try something new for Valentines Day and we picked this place. The menu had multiple vegan/veggie options. So I went with sweet and sour tofu with brown rice. Yes! I finally found a place in the area that serves brown rice. Any hoo the sweet and sour was full of crisp veggies and pineapple chunks. The brown rice was perfect. Hubby went with Cashew tofu. It is in a smoky brown sauce with plenty of veggies as well. Since it was Valentines they were busy and the phone rang off the hook. So our service was a little slow. I never got a water refill. I wanted iced tea for dinner but this is another place that doesn't offer it, just Thai iced tea. The prices were reasonable for the amount of food. Decor is okay. Would definitely try it again on a non busy night to see how good the service can be because we now know the food is good.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
I was so disappointed with our late lunch here. Our food was delicious, but service was absolutely terrible. We were not greeted, the older gentleman just pointed at a seat. He did not say one word other than asking how spicy we wanted our food. Seriously nothing else was said. He barely acknowledged us or looked us in the eyes. And a couple times he plopped our plates down on the table with no care. It was so off putting. I felt like we were not welcome there. It was actually pretty shocking. I got the mint beef salad and it was great. Flavor was delicious. My boyfriend got the sweet chili chicken noodle, and wow did it taste good! Great flavor and spicy but not so bad you couldn't taste anything else. We also shared the fresh rolls with tofu and although there wasn't much tofu, they were still great. And the dipping sauce was one of my favorites.
google avatar

Yelp
Another example of overrated/fake reviews! I wanted to love this place since its close to the in-laws. I give it 1 star for the food and another star for the cleanliness and the nice cashier and owner. If I'm going to be honest though, the food was not good and we spent quite a lot of money. Ordered 6 dishes to go. Order over the phone took longer than most because I kept having to repeat myself. The restaurant was pretty empty when we pulled up so I figured the food would be ready. It wasn't ready. I had to wait 10min. Then one of the dishes leaked on me and they had to repack it. Later I realized the leak was from their stir fry because the "brown sauce" was soooo watery! I thought brown sauce was peanut sauce. I was mistaken. The green curry was also watered down. See my video. I'm used to thicker more flavorful curry. The Pad Thai and the Pad Se Ew were both lacking in the sauce and flavor department. The egg was over cooked like rubber! Check out the photos. The Pad Se Ew was literally just noodles w/a splash of Soy sauce. The Crispy Garlic Chicken was not crispy nor garlicy. The batter was thick and hard. The chicken was dry and tough. I'm pretty sure this isn't a thai dish. More like a Chinese dish. The fresh spring rolls were overpriced for what they were. These aren't your usual pork and shrimp thai fresh rolls. They are nothing like that. They were very bad. I tried to get 6 orders of rice but the owner insisted I only get 4! Well it wasn't enough for 2 people let alone the 5 of us. I appreciated the pleasant and welcoming owner. He even gave me coconut juice for waiting. I hope the food gets better. But really this review is of the food I ordered today. I've eaten a lot of Thai. One of my best friends is Thai. I'm Asian and I grew up in the Bay Area where there are a lot of very good authentic Asian restaurants. I know Thai food! This wasn't good. I'll stick to Chili Thai in UP or Tacoma.

Holly H.

Yelp
Loved it! Wonderful Thai red curry. I'll be back! The service was very good and the restaurant was clean and well maintained.

Yelp
i've been coming hear quite frequently the past 12 months. However, the quality of the food has gone way down. i put a nickel in the take out container to show just how measly the shrimp was. they were razor thin, burnt, and so hard that i couldnt even bite into it. literally burnt to a crisp and the shrimp must have been anorexic. my chicken and my family's chicken was dry. asked for 3 containers of rice and got one. i drive from Lacey to get this food because it was so good when we first started going.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
We have coming here for four years - it has been a reliable good take-out place. About six months ago it started going downhill. (Note the mediocre "okay" Health Department rating). Yesterday was the last straw. I ordered Crispy Garlic Chicken and Mushroom Lover with Shrimp at 4:30, and picked the up at 4:45. They should been fresh and hot. The chicken had obviously been re-heated from the day before. It was barely warm, tough and disgusting. The shrimp dish was flavorless and also a very small portion, which may been a blessing. Used to be a good place, but no more. You have lots of better options in Lakewood.

Daniel E.

Yelp
I ordered the Thai spicy Phad Thai and it was incredible. Finally a place that gives you the stars you asked for when it comes to heat. I order it to go but the restaurant looked really nice and homely.
google avatar

Sonia S.

Yelp
I came here based off Yelp reviews and personal acquaintance recommendation. It was okay...nothing really special about it. Many other similar restaurants in the area. I will possibly come back and try other fare, but not on the top of my list. Prices are decent, portion on the smaller side...nothing wrong, but nothing that made it stick out.
google avatar

Jen W.

Yelp
Disappointed in the food and cost way too much for what i got. I should of took it back but i dont live close by. I will never waste my $ at chang thai. Should get my $$$$ back.

Yelp
This has to be one of the most family-friendly restaurants I've been too. From the moment we walked in the staff has been very friendly and fast. I really appreciated how they took the time to talk to my 4-year-old daughter often that she had an absolute blast. In fact, they even went as far as trying to teach her to eat with chopsticks We were a group of 5 and had various dishes such as wonton soup, steam dumplings, coconut chicken sticks, thunder chicken(?), Chang Thai Fried Rice, classic fried rice, Pineapple Fried Rice and more. Everything was fantastic and I have absolutely no complaints. The restaurant was very very clean and service was fast. They were very fast with cleaning the tables off and ensuring we had everything we needed at all times. My favorite of the whole night is the experience we had. I didn't feel like a statistic/ just another customer. They were so friendly and I felt appreciated as a customer. You guys are awesome! Thank you for providing such a great service.

Jane M.

Yelp
Ordered via food delivery app. Chicken in the fresh roll was rancid. Tofu rolls mostly lettuce, very little tofu and the cucumber was not fresh. Steamed dumplings were good and I liked the sauce. Haven't ordered from them since during COVID quarantine when I ordered a mild curry, it was so spicy it activated my GIRD and I ended up too sick to work the next day.

Yelp
Did a quick Yelp search for Thai food near me. This place showed up and based on reviews we came to try it out. It's a small place with 10 booths and 4 tables. It was about half full when we walked in, with some takeouts waiting. The atmosphere is relaxing and they have a food channel on the tv. We placed our order: Golden bags, red curry duck, Chang fried rice, and massaman chicken. They brought out the rice first, before appetizers. It was really good. The Golden bags came out next. Crab and cream cheese wrapped in a wonton. Not my favorite. I ordered the red curry duck with a spice level of 2. I can't eat spicy foods like I used to. Holy crap was it good. The spice was more than I was expecting and totally worth it. I'll end up paying for it later. My wife ordered the massaman and she loved it. My only issue was the service could have been a lot better. I will be back and highly recommend it.

Jeremy M.

Yelp
Service and food were great. Try the Avocado Green Curry. Definitely going to have that again.
