This was the best Thai food I've ever eaten. Truly amazing. Continue reading for my experience... I stood at the door waiting to be seated for about 8 minutes, and no one saw me. The bartender (manager?) was casually talking to a customer that he knew who came to pick up a Togo order. He didn't notice me either. I went to the food window area to let them know I didn't think anyone had seen me. I was very kind about it, no biggie...I'm short. Maybe they couldn't see me because of that...I ordered my food and a water once I was seated. The waitress was kind and doing the job of 4 people like a rock-star, but she was totally swamped. 10 minutes went by, no water...I had skied all day and was thirsty.
So, I went over to the self-serve drink station, got a cup and ice water. It looked like a normal self-serve station. The bartender (manager?) that had been there when I was waiting at the door was no where to be seen. So, I figured this was what I needed to do to get water.
Later, when I got up to get a refill the bartender (manager?) was racing by me and then I was told I shouldn't have gotten my own water. I told him I ordered a water but waited about 10 minutes but never got a water. He continued to chastise me for getting water and said it was "a health hazard" for me to get my own water (from the self-serve station which has to-go cups, straws, lids, etc. like any other restaurant). There was no sign that said not to get your own.
I couldn't believe that I was in trouble for getting water when I had no help from anyone else. I am a small business owner myself, so I understand how important good reviews are. However, chastising a customer for getting water when none was delivered, and then not even offering to get a real glass and pitcher like everyone else had, is not good customer service.
Best Thai food I've ever had, but I left feeling belittled and shamed. I am sure there is a TON going on behind the scenes that is incredibly stressful (I overheard the bartender (manager?) casually talking to a customer and mentioning how workers were calling in sick). I am sure the bartender (manger) was extremely stressed.
As I was about to leave, the bartender (manager?) did ask me if I was local and what brought me to Durango. He was kind and said safe travels. So, I'm sure I'm the moment he was super stressed. I totally get it...I just left feeling belittled and negative about my experience. But the food was the best!
