"Chango Coffee, one of Echo Park's oldest coffeehouses, recently closed after 17 years of operation due to high rents, competition, and increased business costs. The cafe was known for its caffeine offerings, outdoor seating, and small kitchen that served sandwiches and burritos. It was put up for sale in 2016 by co-owners Jenna Turner and Marc Gallucci, who also own other coffee ventures in the area." - Mona Holmes

Our first morning in California, we really enjoyed the breakfast and the coffee was really nice too. Only downside is we felt the staff were too hipster to even talk to us and be polite. Maybe they don't like tourists. everything else was good though including the nice decorations and art on the walls.

Google
Very nice tasting coffee and a good location to go along with it as well. Offers outdoor seating spots. I like watching cars/bikes go by while having my coffee so I really liked this place. Not noisy and very low profile place.

This place is a local institution but even though I live across the street I hardly ever come here for any reason. Decent coffee and espresso drinks but literally the worst baked goods I've encountered outside a corner doughnut shop in the past two decades of my life. The bagels, in particular, are so bad that you look around for a prank camera the first time you have one. Their sandwiches are almost unbelievably bad as well, you'd think a spot in this neck of the woods would be better by accident or simple trial and error.

On weekend, I visit Chango each morning for coffee and a breakfast burrito -- It's heaven. They offer decent wifi, indoor our outdoor seating, and it is one my favorite spots for people watching. Chango is quintessentially Echo Park.

Yeah Yeah

I'm working over the summer near Chango's cafe. I have found myself coming back for their iced coffees just before I deal with traffic going home. The music is very nice. The baristas are helpful. It all adds up to be great.

On 12/1/17, I needed to use the restroom extremely bad. The gas station across the street denied me access to their bathroom and referred me to the coffee shop across the street. Upon arrival to the coffee shop I was nervous about asking if I could use the restroom because I was previously denied. I asked the gentleman(employee) sitting in a chair if I could “please use the restroom”. The gentleman(employee)replied stating “yes” and gave me access to the restroom. I could not thank the gentleman(employee) and the ethics of the Coffee shop for allowing me to use their restroom in a time of need! Unfortunately, I didn’t have my card or cash on hand to leave a tip of appreciation. However, I will make it a priority to patrionize the company in the near future. Thank you so much for your kindness and great customer service. Many blessings, LB

Great find whilst cruising through LA! Delicious vegan options. Good customer service and very polite. Sat outside and watched the colorful people walk by!

Pretty good breakfast place. They serve nice sandwiches and pasty. Their coffee is also good. They have outside seating too.

Yelp
If I could for a second forget how hard it was to find parking around the area, I would easily see myself being a regular at Canyon Coffee. For me the vibe did worth the hype. The cafe wasn't only nicely designed, but there's something about the atmosphere that just made it felt like a comfy space to kill time doing people watching while enjoying the music played using vinyl record player. Do expect long line throughout the weekend so this was only the kind of place you would go by yourself or in very small group if you're planning to get a seat. I sat by the bar on my own so it turned out perfect for me. Following what everyone seemed to rave about, I did order their Labneh Toast. Forgive me for being not 1000% in alignment with the crowd, I did think it was luscious but not slapping as much as the attention it had drawn (or prolly I set too high expectation because of the reviews). Don't get me wrong, it was indeed great combo of sweetness from the honey and tanginess from the labneh, along with nice texture play blending creamy labneh and crunchy buckwheat. Nonetheless, for me it was more like I did get my curiosity answered, but not something I would return and keep re-ordering. Saving the day, the brown sugar latte was BOMB, especially I got it with pistachio milk which surprisingly just made perfect pair! I've always been a fan of non-dairy alternative as it helped giving creaminess but not overpowering the coffee taste from standing out and I'd say Canyon's coffee notes just suited my preference well, with bold aroma and low acidity. If you're a local of the area, this was totally a perfect to-go neighborhood coffee for ya!

Yelp
Pistachio matcha: 4/5 became 5/5 - truly the fountain of youth - asked for vanilla syrup after I tasted it and it became even better Labneh toast: 6/5 - the subtle sweetness (idk if it was honey?) that blended so well with the olive oil and the creaminess of the labneh was all so harmonious.. the sourdough toast wasn't too hard where it hurts my mouth.. soft in the center but crispy on the outer layer and edge truly a work of art To work: 3/5 - good seating for people coming alone or w friends -cons: no outlet or wifi:( it's okay it made me concentrate better w my hotspot haha Vibes: 5/5 - my friends talked about how canyon coffees vibes were amazing and I would agree. Very cozy and chill but also clean:) - enjoyed looking at the customers outfits during my work break cuz everyone was so fashionable

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday afternoon. I guess I came in at the right time, because right after I ordered, the line was out the door. I ordered an iced matcha with oat milk and vanilla, as well as a pastry. The matcha was good & it was a pre-mixed matcha (not mixed/whisked to order). I tried the gluten free almond cake pastry (?) and it was really good. I would definitely get that again. There is a good amount of indoor/outdoor seating. I believe they have WiFi, but the music was super loud inside so I wouldn't plan on studying/working here (on a weekend at least). Parking can be hard depending on when you go. There are a few meters around and street parking in the neighborhoods. They also have some really cute merch -- mugs and tote bags and stuff!

Ethan N.

Yelp
Matcha was great! The shop itself was busy when we came. Good place to chit chat but maybe not to study as it's quite small. Also bad outdoor seating.

Lee R.

Yelp
A new favorite! Got two Brown Sugar Iced Lattes with oat milk. It had a great taste and I love the espresso flavor profile (a less acidic, bolder taste). The cinnamon sugar donut was also great and fresh, and the cafe was really pretty as well. There was a bit of a line but it moved quickly and the lattes were made quickly as well.

Mandy A.

Yelp
Small nice cafe on the corner, street parking, good service. We had Cortado, and brown sugar latte, tasted good. Would try their matcha drink next time.

Jessica P.

Yelp
Cool place. Great location. Lovely style and atmosphere. Friendly & fast service. Simple menu. A good amount of food options. I LOVE that they don't charge extra for alternative milks. Check it out!

Kaitlyn K.

Yelp
The pistachio milk matcha was very bitter and the matcha had a very strong chalky taste. Not sure if I would recommend. It couldn't just be the milk...but I didn't like their matcha taste

Julia F.

Yelp
So yummy, glad we finally tried it. Parking can be tough on the streets but manageable. Brown sugar latte w oat milk was a little too milky for my liking but still delicious. I also got the tomato sandwich on gluten free bread and it was great!! Workers were nice, table's definitely fill up quick but we were able to snatch one. Very cute spot, will return!!

Allison C.

Yelp
I came to know this place from Instagram and visited. For me, latte was very plain. I don't think i would go back.

Mary H.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop. A corner location with some seating indoors as well as out on the sidewalk. Beautiful coffee art. The Americano was very good (I didn't need to add sweetener). I nice place to relax and talk for a while. Car traffic but not too busy.

Kayla Z.

Yelp
First off walking into the cafe was such cute vibes! Everyone working was sooo friendly which dosnt always happen at coffee shops!! They have a fresh juice maker which we love fresh juice!!! I got the matcha on tap which was made with pistachio milk and it was perfect for me not too sweet! My friend got an iced matcha with oat milk and added simple syrup and it was delicious for her! We got the avocado toast which when it first got set down we got nervous with the stuff it had on top but WOW it was delicious! It had a little kick to it which really added some good flavor and that's coming from a person who is very very picky!! Loved the vibes and all the food and drinks we got for sure would come back! Only thing is parking was alittle annoying but for a great matcha well worth looking!!

Andrew D.

Yelp
I get it--it's not Chango, and it's definitely part of the wave of gentrified establishments taking over Echo Park community favorites. That noted--it's a solid coffee shop with excellent coffee offerings. What I've tried: Drip coffee: smooth, bold taste. Hits the spot on groggy mornings. The Brown Sugar Latte Iced: I got this with pistachio milk. Loved it! How cool that Canyon Coffee offers pistachio milk! Where else do you find it at Echo Park coffee shops?!?!?! Cold Brew: Cold Brew aficionados, look no more. Come get your fix! Draft Latte: This oat milk/ cold brew concentrate is delightful and the perfect treat for those of us with a sweet tooth. It is also available unsweetened. Canyon is a solid five-stars and warrants the obscenely long lines just about any day of the week. I commemorate the owner, Casey, for always being around to make sure things are running smoothly and ready to jump behind the bar when his team needs help during a rush. Canyon is a must-try for fellow coffee enthusiasts like myself.

Hailing W.

Yelp

Yelp
I went in around 12pm on a Friday and it was very busy. It was hard to find parking near the coffee shop itself but there were lots of spaces if you go i to the neighborhood. All the indoor and outdoor tables were taken, and it seemed more like a socializing coffee shop than a get-work-done coffee shop. I found a seat at the bar table and got their cold brew with an almond butter toast. The coffee was good, and I liked that it was not acidic like at some other places. Personally, I was not a fan of the toast because I thought that the coarse salt did not really complement the almond butter, which was thick. I feel like the everything but the bagel seasoning from TJ's would add more flavor, perhaps. My biggest qualm is that this place doesn't have wifi, but because of their great ambiance, friendly staff, and a large section of toasts, I would be back to catch up with a friend.

Jessica N.

Yelp
Located nearby and I'm always glad to try a new coffee shop. This place was inviting even from the outside. There seemed to be more outside seating than inside which makes me think this place must get pretty packed during morning and brunch hours. Especially since they do have a few sandwich and toast options on their menu. Along with delicious sounding/looking pastries and cakes. It's an interesting location because there's all kinds of people/groups here. Individual people with laptops working at the shop. People getting together to have a birthday brunch with friends. A lot of people just walking their dogs and deciding to stop for a treat. People on coffee dates. There's so much to see and notice if you decide to sit down and take in everything around you. Parking wasn't too hard around the neighborhoods, just a small walk over. Maybe it gets more difficult to find parking during peak hours. Service is always friendly and their matcha was pretty good too. I would definitely return and recommend.

Georgia S.

Yelp
Love this coffee shop. If you wanna people watch or just vibe and chill by yourself or with friends - it's a great place to be. My friends and I joke it's like a daytime "bar" because you see people you know or you meet new people :) the drinks are always great - have had the matcha on tap and the coffee! The made to order tomato sandwich is soooo good y'all. It just hits the spot. I've had it twice in the last week lol

Maria D.

Yelp
Very nice staff with great customer service and amazing atmosphere. The pastries were also very delicious.

Jenica B.

Yelp
Canyon Coffee is a trendy neighborhood coffee shop in Echo Park with great drinks and perfect sidewalk seating! When searching for a nearby coffee shop, my criteria was 1) outdoor seating to get some sunshine and 2) a solid matcha. Canyon Coffee delivered on both! Street parking was manageable but it was probably my lucky day. The kind barista recommended the iced pistachio milk matcha latte with honey, which was unique and perfectly strong. I enjoyed my drink and a book at a sidewalk table, which made for a perfect day. Bonus: I liked that they had environmentally friendly/dye free toilet paper in the restroom! Another memorable part of this fun spot.

Noah S.

Yelp
Nice spot , friendly staff and good coffee. No regular milk but it was still tasty. Good environment and Emily people around.

Amanda M.

Yelp
This review is solely for the Labneh toast because WOW. My friend put it perfectly that it's a "hyper fixation meal." I've gone back and had it since trying it the first time. The texture and flavor of the toast are so good. Also, the gf sourdough is amazing, and it's bigger than the regular toast. That's atypical for gf foods. Service is consistently friendly & the atmosphere is always cute. My favorite part is that canyon coffee always has a floral arrangement. There's typically a line but it goes very fast.

Anna K.

Yelp
Great coffee, great vibes, lots of puppies to pet while you wait for your coffee. I got a latte and I love the way they foam their milk.

Cotton T.

Yelp
I did not think their olive oil cake was worth $9. It was moist but had no flavor/ just tasted of sugar. Also wasn't impressed by the matcha on tap. The staff was friendly and vibe is cool. No wi-fi. To me it just wasn't worth the astronomical price.

Angelica L.

Yelp
Overall: 3.5/5 (dine in) This is a hipster coffee shop located near residential areas so it was really hard to find parking, even for a Sunday morning. We parked a few streets down in the neighborhood and walked to the shop. The walk wasn't long even though it looks like it and you get to see other shops along the way. The inside set up is really unique. They have your typical coffee/merchandise stand and pastry display but what's different are the in wall beer tap handles, bar set up in front of the baristas, then tables behind that bar set up for additional seating. They also have a few tables outside as well. It can get crowded where the line was in between the bar and table seating when we were there. Matcha Pistachio ($7): This was on tap so I wanted to try what it tasted like. The pistachio milk didn't give it as much creaminess as I experienced at another coffee shop. I thought this drink was pretty basic. They don't seem to use any sweetener. The main flavor was coming from the matcha which was a little bitter. Latte With Pistachio Milk ($5): The coffee itself which has a strong profile was the main flavor. Similar to the matcha, it didn't taste like they used any sweetener. The pistachio milk flavor didn't come through either. It seems like Canyon Coffee really wants to highlight the components of their drinks which I respect but I'm the type of girl that likes sweetened drinks so I can't say this place is my cup of tea. Labneh Toast ($7): Oh my goodness; you have to try this! This was one of the best toast I had in my life There's so many flavors and textures in this one toast. It's sweet and savory at the same time. The sourdough bread has a unique sourdough taste and the bread is soft. The buckwheat crunch was good. The honey wasn't overly sweet. Everything just went so well together. Definitely like their toast more than their drinks.

Emma G.

Yelp
I was excited to try the pistachio matcha they have on draft, but I unfortunately didn't love it -- it tasted rather milky to me. I also got their lemon loaf which was really oily, so not sure I'd recommend that either. The staff was great, and it is a cute space! Maybe I just ordered the wrong things.

Kim T.

Yelp
Trying out different coffee shops is one of my fav pastimes! I woke up early this morning to make a detour to Canyon Coffee before heading to work a few blocks away. As I was in line, I saw folks walk out with their deliciously caramel-colored drinks in hand and I just KNEW that the coffee was going to be goooooodtttt. I was right. I got an iced latte with pistachio milk (another +1) and it was rich, decadent, full-bodied, invigorating, and just plain ol' delicious. Ugh, there is nothing like the first sip of coffee!!! I try to ween off my addiction, but some days I lose that battle. Pray for me y'all. There are also these delicious drinks on tap that caught my eye, but I wanted to just play it safe and get an ol' reliable latte. I def want to try the matcha pistachio and oat chai next time! So don't judge me if I'm double-fisting next time you see me in here... Both drinks are for me, not for a party of two lol. I highly recommend Canyon Coffee and will def be stopping by more frequently! P.S. it is street parking, so give an offering to the parking gods and may they bless you! Just don't get in my way when I get there lmao xo

Matcha M.

Yelp
MATCHA:8/10 SERVICE:7/10 AMBIANCE:9/10 very well styled Good looking people to say the least lol Matcha wasn't out of this world but it was better than average which means a lot Decently priced Water was great tho ! Great location and surrounding stores I'll be back

Yelp
To drink coffee is like capturing happiness in a cup. Without further ado let's begin this new cafe review. Happy Spring season! Canyon Coffee (est. 2016) is a cute modern corner coffee roaster shop tucked on Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. They're located between Echo park ave and Delta street. They serve a rotation of Canyon Coffee beans, lattes on draft and an all-day menu that includes tartines, banana loaf bread and fresh-squeezed orange juice, with indoor and outdoor seating available. Furthermore, they sell retails such as bags of coffee, decanter, mugs and merch goods. It's interior atmosphere is very relaxing and on top of that they play chill jazz music which makes it feel more like heaven. I personally love Jazz. Indoor layout was spacious with cute modern style furnitures. Furthermore, their outdoor seats have good street view. I came to Canyon coffee on an early Monday morning and I was ebulliently greeted by a young lovely, brunette brown eyed female barista. I perused their menu, and I ordered a hot cafe latte and and avocado toast. Cafe Latte was delightful and perfectly crafted which brought joy to my Monday. And the avocado toast was oozing in deliciousness albeit may need a little warmness to the toast. Their service was impeccable and customer was wonderful. Prices were reasonable but some were not. Quality of food/drinks were above average. Street parking only. Overall, I enjoyed my coffee and breakfast and service. I highly recommend this corner coffee shop.

Nicole G.

Yelp
Beautiful establishment! First time here and will be back. Probably the best coffee I have had in a long time. The customer service/cashier was extremely friendly and helpful. I tried the banana bread and it was delicious.

Sugar L.

Yelp
I've tried to like this place, but I cannot get past the vibe change that this establishment has brought into a neighborhood which is built on Community and cultural awareness. I tried a cinnamon bun finally but it was super dry and hard. The chai is great, but other than that, I think everything is pretty overpriced and is adding to the sense of economic alienation for original residents. I also find it really strange that the owner responds to any negative review in a bullying kind of way instead of taking into consideration what's being said and applying it. I feel like we need to respect a community when we come in with a business. It's sad to see Black Queer owned businesses have to close while new shops open up that don't seem to value community awareness in a way we are used to.

Kelly T.

Yelp
I came in on a Monday afternoon and ordered my go to: a cold brew with oat milk. I thought all the drinks on tap were super cute and the ambiance of the place is great for a chill day out. The location and ambiance are my favorite aspects of this spot. I rate the cold brew a 6/10 just because it's good but not the best I've ever had. The service was also good. I want to come in again to try the matcha on tap, which my friend actually said wasn't her favorite, but I love love matcha and gotta see for myself!

Esther M.

Yelp
Super impressive cafe! You can tell the owner put so much thought into this. Looks cozy and is on the smaller side but they can crank out drinks like no other. Definitely built for maximum efficiency AND quality. Rare to find both. I ordered their unsweetened draft matcha with pistachio milk and it was lovely. Really enjoyed the flavor pairings - nutty and astringent. Loved their merch, their decor, the warmth from the wood, the ample seating outside on the street corner. Definitely worth the hype.

Johan M.

Yelp
Don't get scared off by the lingering screenwriters, Canyon serves some of the best damn coffee in Los Angeles. Great ambiance, very fair prices, straightforward menu. Employees are very friendly, and did I say their coffee is amazing? This isn't the type of coffee shop where you find a whole ton of people working. No outlets, no Wi-Fi. Parking is super inconvenient and usually unavailable. You might have to park a few blocks away. But it's so worth it.

Francesca M.

Yelp
The trendiest coffee spot in the neighborhood. There's zero parking (street options are super limited) but the coffee is always consistently great. Indoor and outdoor seating with some light food options on the menu. My only complaint is how long the line is every day, but it's a testament to how great the coffee is!

Bella m.

Yelp
The service was great, but the drinks were really plain and not flavorful. The iced matcha latte wasn't strong or sweet it just tasted like milk, the same goes for the iced chai latte.

Jackie R.

Yelp
The most consistently delicious coffee -- makes driving from the valley always worth it!

Ashley A.

Yelp
Great food + good coffee. Stylish, chic space. Indoor + outdoor seating. Staff was fairly kind. After I ordered, I discovered they don't offer WiFi. Big bummer. I felt a bit silly when I realized, because I brought my laptop, and it was mid workday. There's no obligation for cafes to offer WiFi, of course. It's a courtesy. Plus, WiFi can result in a coffee shop being bogged down all day with the same customers, thus generating less turnover, which leads to less sales. Respectfully, however, it is not unreasonable to expect Internet access. Transparency is always appreciated (e.g., a disclaimer near the register that says, "We kindly inform you that Canyon Coffee does not offer Internet access,"). If there's a concern that notifying customers in advance would reduce traffic, then maybe it's time to consider offering WiFi. All things considered, I will definitely return for a more leisurely/social coffee run.

Marlene V.

Yelp
Enjoyed the food here. This coffee place is a perfect pit stop for summer. The coffee is only 5$ with an alternative almond milk which is a really good price for the area. The service is okay. The only thing I would recommend is for their to be more shaded umbrellas. I was burning up outside. The place is really packed given they have decent food options and good coffee. Also, I loved the stuff they had to buy such as the sweatshirts, coffee mugs or a book. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and would be coming back.

Sean T.

Yelp
Canyon is an amazing coffee shop and brand. Aesthetically, the vibes can't be beat, and it's so fun for people watching and reading a book. I really appreciated that they don't offer wifi so it's more about enjoying the experience. I will be back for sure!

Ashley A.

Yelp
Nice chill vibe. A bit smaller than I imagined inside but there's lots of space outside! Friendly staff

Clarissa N.

Yelp
Street parking only. Found this cafe on tik tok and was interested. Sad to say I did not like this place. I got an iced matcha with oat milk and it was terrible. I don't think they did their milk to matcha ratio right cause all I tasted was milk.

Natalia M.

Yelp
such a busy little spot but my goodness is the coffee and toast delicious. always okay with the wait because of it. lots of seating and the service is quick and helpful. the area is also filled with cute little shops to go into as well which makes for a nice walk after.

Mathavee H.

Yelp
Pros : Such a beautiful cafe! Excellent pastries! I love that they have some vegan options too. Their coffee is excellent! One of the best coffee shops in LA! I love their fig leaf latte, I don't think they have it on the menu anymore or it might be seasonal? I'm also amazed by their tap drinks/draft lattes, especially the matcha pistachio latte. Delicious!! ... very creamy, and earthy. The matcha is not diluted like other places. Cons: One thing that I don't like about this place is that when I ask the employees about the beans, they cant tell me more information about the roast and they don't have any suggestions. They aren't really knowledgeable about what is sold here. And the fact that this place is coffee roaster/wholesaler, I would think that the employees would have some knowledge about the products. Or at least have some suggestions. For example, if I'm looking to buy a bag of beans to make my own drinks at home, and employee can't tell me if roast is more on the earthy or sweet side or more on the citrus side... etc. they just really don't know anything about the roasts aside from what we both can tell from what the bag says.

Lily T.

Yelp
bummed! ive been meaning to come here for a while, and i really wanted to love this place but the service kind of sucked. the interior was beautiful & the feeling of a packed coffee house is always nice to walk into. but i couldnt help but notice that the barista who took our order seemed slightly annoyed that i was asking questions, as it was my first time in. (?) ordered for here, found that there was no seating left inside or out, so asked for a bag for my pastries to take away and politely asked one of the girly baristas & she said nothing and just just placed the bags on the counter and walked away. (ok, sorry for asking ? :/ ) didnt really feel all that much of a welcoming presence overall. plus, my latte looked nearly white, couldnt taste much coffee which was also a bummer. Pastries were really good tho! Maybe i'll come back another day and give it another try. Hope the service is better next time !

Mei E.

Yelp
Wonderful coffee shop filled with perfectly balanced draft lattes, delicious pastries, incredible toast, and kind staff. The cafe itself is very cute with ample indoor and outdoor seating. I will say the prices are a bit high but the quality does match the price. Stand out items: labneh toast!!! This is the best toast I've had in LA hands down. I've tried a couple other toast options as well and they never disappoint but the labneh is all-star level. They also have amazing gluten free bread (I believe it's from Breadblock) and always have vegan and gluten free options for pastries and breads which I appreciate. Parking can be a bit tricky but it's worth it! Already a regular and have no plans on changing that anytime soon :)

Jaclyn C.

Yelp
Got a matcha latte here and it was decent. They do have a lot of special drinks on tap which I would like to try next time. Parking can get tough as it's street parking only

Henry L.

Yelp
I waited for a pistachio matcha on tap for 15 minutes after placing an order. Felt like an eternity.

Clayton M.

Yelp
This place is cool! Good drink options, good breads, freshly squeezed OJ is fun. I did like the oat latte that they have on tap, & I'd get it again. I thought it was nice to have a fresh cup of blood orange juice, that I watched the guy squeeze for me. And it was. But the cup was smaller than what I thought I was paying for (very not cheap OJ). So it was a fun one-timer but wouldn't do that again. I had a really bad experience parking :( not their fault but it's tough in LA. Also if you're not from LA, this place is a great example of how LA feels like you're entering a different world when you go there sometimes. It's similar when I go to Newport, but these trendy cool spots always attract this otherworldly type of crowd to one place. If ya know ya know I guess, it's wild

Anna G.

Yelp
Another trendy coffee shop in Echo Park. Iced americano without milk was $3.80. The shop was 80% full and most people were doing work on their laptops with their hotspots. Friendly environment with primarily male baristas. Con Counter wasn't clean Limited parking No outlets or Wi-Fi 3.5 total rating
