Chan's Chinese Food

Second time here within the last 6 months. This visit was not good based off my order today of the house special fried rice and the spicy beef. The fried rice was good. I certainly can make better at home. Fried rice should never be expensive especially since it is I am assuming day old rice. If this is the house special fried rice, it was really lacking a lot. It should be loaded with protein and it should look like you take pride in it. I only found a few pieces of shrimp, maybe some chicken, and no beef which it was supposed to have according to the many menus that I saw online. Many pictures of the menu are very old and it did not reflect the current prices. The other item that I ordered was the spicy beef and it was loaded with beef and a lot of largely cut bell peppers. The beef was very chewy. The beef needed to be tenderized properly. A little baking soda to tenderize the beef would have fixed the problem. The dish needs a lot of work. For the price that I paid for my 2 dish amounted to $28!! This is not fair to anyone. For the location of this restaurant, this should never be this high. Note to owner, some updating on your cooking skills is needed. Tenderize your beef please. Another note to the restaurant, do not hand customers a messy bag with gravy all over it. Cause most people aren't taking it home and how are people going to share the order with a mess all over.

Was not great, tables were being used as storage. Service was poor, food flavorless, plastic utensils and even though dining in, the food was served in the boxes, on paper plates with bending plastic silverware. You could eat there, but I won’t again

The best food you can get anywhere and the most amount. we love it. been going there 40 years now this always makes our trip to Fresno worth the trip. we live at Bass Lake over 50 years in the same house 🏠

If anyone has been here, they know the food is really good and the portions are plentiful! The strip they are in and the restaurant itself needs a MAJOR revamp! You have to deal with homeless people every time you go and inside needs major cleaning..

Love the chicken salad!! CHANS CHINESE gives you a big amount for a good price! The chicken is delicious and dressing is to die for! I door dash from this place all the time!! I also love the fried calamari!

Ordered delivery for 3 combos-- combo #2, #5, and #6. The quality isn't the greatest, but the prices are decent, especially since they pack the container full. 1 container can feed about 2-3 people, depending on how much you can eat. They include 1 pack of soy sauce, chili sauce, and a fortune cookie for each combo box. Combo #6 was the best of the 3. Next time, I'd try other dishes on the menu since they look good in the pics. I had asked for eating utensils, and of course, they did not include them. At least the delivery driver arrived promptly.

Food was great, 28$ for two plates that come FULL with food, the staff is nice, would give it a 5 star but there are homeless outside and the place is not the cleanest but they do what they can!

Hidden gem in Fresno. You want more bang for your buck this is the spot. Excellent Fresno style chinese food.

Chans is hands down the best Chinese food place in Fresno!! Hole in the wall but the same consistent great food. Super flavorful, inexpensive, fresh ingredients, quick service. Large orders are always ready in 20 minutes, small orders 10 tops... you can never go wrong with this place... tried the won ton soup for the first time today and it is delicious!

Stopped in for a number 2 combo with crispy noodles sweet and sour pork and pork fried rice. The portions are huge enough for 2 people.

This is a great place to eat. The area is a bit seedy but it's pretty safe. The people are very friendly and super nice.

The food is plenty and tasty. Service was good and very polite. When I crave Chinese food this is where I go.

The food was actually pretty good. Great portions and staff was as accommodating as can be. Note that even though they have a small inside dining space, it is mostly designed for take out orders. All food comes in To Go boxes so packaging and putting away food is easy.

It's fine. Not terrible. Not great. Just fine. If you are depressed and just want a bunch of greasy Chinese food, this will work. The service is good. The people are nice. The inside is very small, but you're probably getting this to go, anyway. There's a liquor store around the corner. I hope you feel better, soon.

08/15/24- My friend and I was looking for a good Chinese food place. We stumbled across Chan's Chinese Food dine in & take out. A small littplace Cedar & Shield in Fresno. This was our 1st time eating here. The service was excellent at the same time he helped the take. order too! The ambiance was friendly. I highly recommend the #6 Combination Meal. The potion of the food was generous. You can feed 2 people just ask for extra plate or 1 hungry person. It Worth my $10.98 meal. I had to take a lot home for leftovers the next days.

Ordered delivery. When it came orange chicken was in a paper container - stapled shut but put in bag on it side so all sauce spilled out and was dripping through hole in the bag. Sure driver has a mess in his car. Beef fries rice had zero flavor and one of them had some disgusting in it like an oyster - could not finish after getting that gross what ever in mouth. Never again will I eat their mess...

Pretty good hole in the wall Chinese food Fast service and price are good, you get alot of food and worth it, definitely recommend if your looking for pan fried noodles and a side.

Me and my family have been eating here for years before we went from resturant to resturant. Since we found this place we never left it. I don't live in Fresno anymore but this is the first place I want to good when I visit.

Great food and value for what you pay.. been going to chans for over 30 years..... you can get a number 4 combination plate... witch is the BBQ pork with noddles fried rice and tones of veggies.. it feeds 4 people easily.. for 12 bucks..... you can't beat the prices..... you really do get a bang for your buck... I'll continue to go to chans again and again .. thanks chans..

If I could give zero stars I would. I don't like writing these type of reviews but in this case I feel it is necessary. We ordered sweet & Sour Pork, Almond chicken chow mein with pan fried noodles, asparagus beef & chicken fried rice. The sweet & sour pork was inedible. The pieces of pork were huge. The coating didn't cover the meat & it was fried beyond briquettes. 1/2 of the order had sauce on it. The other 1/2 was bare. It was inedible. The almond chicken chow mein had an off flavor. The carrots were not peeled & the noodles were not pan fried as requested. The asparagus in the asparagus beef was so woody you could not eat it. It hurt my mouth where it punctured it. It wasn't just a piece here & there. It was horrible & my mouth hurts from being pierced. The fried rice was a dry hard lump of rice. This is seriously the worst Chinese food I have EVER had. Such a disappointment. Seriously, go somewhere else. I don't appreciate the fact that my review is spelled correctly but it's not posted correctly. It's pieces of pork, not prices.

This place has been consistently good throughout my entire life.... I don't live in Fresno anymore, but when I'm in town I still eat here and I'm never disappointed. This dish was a little over $12 and could feed 4 people. 10/10

Been coming here since I was a kid. It's honestly nostalgic if you're from the area, kind of a iykyk kind of thing. The service is fast and kind. The food's just alright, HOWEVER it's a restaurant that makes me say "So much food, no much money" I'd recommend the house chow mein and the orange chicken.

First of all, we've been going there off & on for at least 20 years. We honestly love the food, but I would say in the past couple years we have experienced finding hair on our food ,once in our eggrolls, and my daughter-in-law found hair in her chow mein a couple months ago, and then Tuesday afternoon we ordered the #6 plate and a 1/2 order of the Chinese chicken salad, which usually is our favorite. while I was eating my Chinese chicken salad. I found a thin dark hair in it, and then not even a minute later, my granddaughter was eating a piece of Orange chicken and there was a large thick black hair in between two pieces of chicken. (and I called in to let them know ) It sucks because we will no longer eat there just because each time I have called in and let them know and all I get back is if I want my order remade.. ‍ Honestly I would like to see all the cooks and people who are prepping the food wearing hairnets after that many times of finding hair on or in our plates .. before I ever order from them again...

I been eating at this place since I was a child. It's been years since I've ate there today I ordered over $100 of food. To find out how disgusting it taste! Noodles all broken too soft the orange chicken was tough. Sweet-and-sour was OK. The best part was the barbecue pork the rice was really mushy and dry. It was really nasty!

Fantastic family style Chinese food. My whole group loved it. The service was timely and friendly. The location isn't the nicest side of town, but don't let that discourage you, the food is delicious.

I ordered the pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, and BBQ port via DoorDash. The chow mein was filled with some weird sauce/gravy when I was expecting it to be pan fried like I saw in the pictures. Also, found a few bones mixed in the chicken chow mein... so I had to watch each bite to make sure I didn't bite into a bone. Other than that, food was just ok and the portions are large where I would have 2 days' worth of food... just hoping the food was more flavorful...

My favorite Chinese restaurant in town. My Pop-Pop started taking my mom there when she was pregnant with me in 1987, I still eat here to this day. All of my friends family go here too haha I always tell everyone how amazing they are.

Very upset that I spent 28.00 for 2 dinners the food was nasty egg food Yung was reheated the sweet and sour chicken wasnt cooked the pan fried noodles were not freshly made the fried shrimp were fried again leaving oil on the bag they were put in the whole dinner was awful never again will I patronize chans I work to hard for my money to pay for nasty food. I'm leaving a star so I can post my review this place not deserving any stars..

Love this place so much, it might be the best Chinese restaurant in Fresno. The plates are massive for a great price. One plate can easily be shared with someone else or be multiple meals. Staff is friendly too. 10/10.

There ok! I have found the scrubber Brillo in my food but I do love their food and still go! But service sometimes is not good!

Used to eat here years ago. Hubby ate there when he was in high school and introduced me when we met. Was authentic Chinese, tasted decent and was very affordable. Fast forward 18 years and we ordered it on Door Dash tonight for the first time in many years and it was awful! The hot and sour soup had a rancid odor to it and I couldn't eat any after the first bite. Down the drain it went. The pork foo yung was eh...nothing to write home about, but at least it was edible. The orange chicken tasted mostly like vinegar, nothing like orange chicken really. The pork fried rice was okay. The chicken chop suey chow mein was edible. Won't be ordering again. Very disappointed.

Unbelievably.. DELICIOUS FOOD! LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! My favorites are Black mushroom beef, shrimp w/ lobster sauce and beef with broccoli. Nice customer service too.

Its good hole in the wall.. The have cheap prices & large portions. The food is AMAZING always hot. Only thing is they need to remodel their building is very outdated and restroom is clean but tiny next to kitchen... I order kungpao chicken u cant go wrong with that...

I had very high expectations for this place. 4 stars on google , 3.5 on Yelp. What most people are saying is correct large portions, ok pricing, decent flavor however today was a HUGE disappointment for me. I will never go to any Chinese places that look like dumps anymore. This place was right in the hood, which is ok good food and business can be anywhere. The place looked old and run down. Probably my first mistake taking ratings over appearance. Could barely even see inside their little restaurant with the square glass/pocket they create for you to get your food and sign receipts. We ordered : special fried rice, chow mein and Mongolian beef. When ordering the lady over the phone rushed me like ok, what else? What next? I told her Mongolian beef NO SPICY, our family majority does not eat spicy. 45 mins after ( total time there and back ) the Mongolian beef is spicy, called and said they could exchange it now or next time? Trying to imply eat it and order non spicy next time. After considering the heat, time and traffic to get it replaced, i decided not to go. We started to eat and it was decent until my daughter who is picky ate it and found a piece of paper with lettering - see pics - ( she thought it might be the packets that keep the noodles / food fresh ) it could've been anything with paper. DO NOT GO HERE, I will never go to a Chinese place that is a hole in the wall anymore. Find some place newer and more clean and up to food safety code.

While the food has been delicious, the last two times I've had take out from here I got terribly sick. There was some time between orders, but the outcome was the same. I ordered the combination both times. BBQ Pork Chow Mein, Pork Fried Rice & Fried Shrimp.

The food was great and they give you a lot which was really nice . We got the Chow Mein and Beef Chop Suey . They also delivered it pretty quickly which was appreciated .

Delicious, cheap, with huge serving sizes! We ordered 4 orders of chowmein and 4 orders of fried rice. The 4 servings of each item make two large party trays. Don't let the location scare you, it's definitely worth it! Our party guests kept asking where we ordered the chowmein from! We will definitely be returning for future party orders.

I was too lazy to cook dinner and too lazy to go grab something so I ordered from here through Postmates. I ordered orange chicken with fried rice and a combo #6 along with an extra fried rice order. The food was delivered quickly and was still hot when we got it. I couldn't believe how much food was stuffed into the to go boxes. We barely made a dent in it. The orange chicken wasn't orange instead a red color. It was good but I would have liked a bit more sauce. For the price and amount of food you receive, this place is definitely worth trying.

I use to come here a lot growing up. Food was always good and portion size was great. Came today and ordered orange chicken. The rice and noodle were way over cook. To the point they were mush. Chicken was weird tasting and chewy. So sad that the food is crap and they raised the prices. I wouldn't eat here again or recomend this place at all. Ps: stay away and save your money

I always order the #6. They never disappoint. For $10, they pile on the food. They definitely aren't greedy with portions. Excellent flavor.

Great food for a good price but i was overcharged $145 and the owner never wanted to make things right with me and refund me for their mistake. I had to contact my bank to get everything straightened out. If you go to this restaurant pay with cash. these people are greedy.

I been coming here for years and the food is great. Big portions It a busy hole in the wall type of place. However even after all these years they still haven't updated their seats. They have huge holes in them, literally! So the inside isn't too pleasant but the food is Update: they have updated their seats

can I say real Chinese food! I live in the Bay Area but let me say I have never had great Chinese food like I have here. I come here whenever I am in town & the only place I come. Amazing food, quick service & a small environment. Would recommend anyone to eat here if they are ever in town. You won't regret it.
