Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week: April 26 | Eater DC

"On a lazy night in I decided to try the American-style Chinese at Chan’s Kitchen and was impressed: the chicken and broccoli had properly steamed vegetables and plenty of meat, the beef chow fun featured tender noodles with just the right amount of sauce, and even the often-overlooked wonton soup delivered a great broth and plump wontons — I think they may earn a spot in my rotation." - Eater Staff

Saw the rave reviews and tried the Taiwan Mei Fun with Chicken during lunch today. It comes with onions, carrots, beansprouts, green bell peppers and egg stir fried in with soy sauce and thin rice noodles(see photo). It was very tasty and the portion was generous (chicken and noodles loaded up to the top of the take out lid). I loved how it wasn’t overly salty and appreciated how nothing was burnt. Process of ordering in through phone and picking up was super quick despite this spot being super busy.

Food was good I ordered chicken fried rice, general tso, egg roll, crab Rangoon and chicken and corn soup! Everything was bomb! I wasn’t a huge fan of the Rangoon but everything else!!! Perfect will be back!

Drove from Baltimore to check out Chan’s Kitchen after hearing a recommendation from a Montgomery County friend. Ambiance was clean and refreshing while customer service was attentive and efficient. Did not make it out of the parking lot without diving into the food. Ordered dumplings, orange chicken, beef lo mein and sugar donuts. The orange chicken was so flavorful and fresh with orange rinds, and the donuts were irresistible. Everything we tried was delicious! Truly wish we had Chinese take out of this quality back in Baltimore. So good!!!

The foods were amazing! They were really tasty. They were very efficient so I just waited only for 10-15 mins after I ordered at the store. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken & Shrimp, Chicken in Hot Garlic Sauce, Dumplings(pan fried), and Spring Rolls. I can definitely tell the dumplings are homemade. It was Friday and people constantly came in the store. I will go back to the store again. Thank you for the delicious foods!

The take-out Chinese restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, and the food is prepared and ready promptly, typically within 10 minutes of ordering. The hot and sour soup is particularly noteworthy, standing out as one of the best in the area. Additionally, the lunch menu's orange chicken is delightful, with a unique infusion of actual orange rind that avoids being overly sweet. While savory, the pork with dried bean curd was slightly saltier than anticipated but satisfying when eaten with rice.

Such a wonderful hole in the wall. The lady running the register was so kind - ended up giving me a free soda out of the kindness of her heart and kindly retrieving me from outside when my food was ready for pickup. Their General Tso’s was perfect even after eating it after getting home. A small and very clean operation with really good food and service. Will be coming back many times, again, in the future! Do not miss out on this place!

Easy to pick up. Nice person behind the counter. The scallion pancakes were great. The wings were great and not as greasy as other places. The duck was good, drier and not as greasy, but not my favorite duck. Egg drop soup was normal and good. The mapo tofu was good, though not my favorite. The sweet and sour chicken was great, nice and simple fried breaded chicken. The dumplings were good. My family said it was kinda like soup dumplings, like other reviewers have said. I didn't detect that though. Overall, I will definitely order from there again. If I'm looking solely for mapo tofu, I'd prefer from somewhere else. But I wouldn't object to any of their food.

When I was a child, we had a favorite Chinese restaurant called Magic Wok. I had many fond memories at Magic Wok and proudly called it my favorite restaurant in Northern Virginia. There was nothing better. Then, we moved out of Magic Wok’s 10 mile delivery range. We tried to make the pilgrimage from time to time but with traffic and whatnot we just ended up losing touch. Ever since those days, I’ve been trying to find a takeout Chinese restaurant that would compare and all to no avail. Then, one day, I was out with a walk with my daughter and just happened to see someone walk into Chans Kitchen and come out with Chinese food. I figured I’d give it a shot. Friends, I think I may have found my new favorite Chinese restaurant. Magic who? Haha. Just kidding. We ordered quite a bit of food and when my wife asked how long it would take, they said, “Uh, probably about 5 minutes.” That’s how you know. Chans doesn’t have a dining area, they just do takeout and they’re a legitimate hole in the wall. Like the kind of shopping center you’d be worried about catching some illness not seen since the Middle Ages. But let me tell you, we didn’t get sick and the food was delicious. The wonton soup was the best I’ve ever had, and I don’t say that lightly. The prices are reasonable, the service was prompt and friendly, and there was plenty of food provided. All in all, we’ll definitely be coming back for many more great future memories. Now enjoy some very unflattering pictures of our food.
