Chào Bạn

"As its name, which means “hello friend” in Vietnamese, suggests, Chào Bạn is the epitome of friendly and easy going. In the kitchen, Chef Madame Hang gives traditional Vietnamese recipes a new spin with modern techniques and much aplomb. Her nem rán cua (crab spring rolls), deliver balanced flavours and contrasting textures. The menu’s Dac Biet section is a treasure trove of her creative signature dishes." - Michelin Inspector

Good food. We had the banana flower salad , fresh rolls, pork ribs, oven sea bass and a sour broth with fish. It was overall good. Favourites were the pork.ribs and the salad 5/5 Other dishes 3.75/5 Oven fish - didnt need the passion fruit sauce (as a preference) but the fish and cook were delicious Sour Broth - didn't need pineapple (personal preference) but someone in the group liked it. Fresh vegetarian roll - again personal preference, and granted, it is a vegetarian dish, the sauce that was provided was soy sauce, but could have been fish sauce-ish as an option, probably wouldve been more flavorful. Again personal preference but overall good. Staff is super friendly and often came by to check up on us. Overall great. Give it a try :)

Delighted to have dined at Chao Ban for lunch. Cozy place. We did not reserve any table and luckily able to find a table that was able to accommodate our big group inside the restaurant. All the food was tasty and we were blown away. The peach tea with lemongrass is so refreshing and nice. Pomelo and shrimp starter is a good apetitiser. The unforgettable dishes were lacquered pork ribs, prawn in coconut cream and oven seabass in banana leaf (fish is nicely cooked, so tender and fresh). Really live up to its Michelin Bib Gourmand award. You will not regret making a trip here.

Happened to dine at two Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants in Hanoi today. They were so different in quality with Chao Ban clearly deserving the honor while the other located in the Old Town was very lacking. I was the only guest in the other restaurant at lunch where the food was overseasoned and several staff were napping. Chao Ban's owner Vincent Page made a point to check on his guests and had well-appointed rooms with excellent staff support. The food I tried was well prepared and flavorful including the spring rolls with crab, and prawns in coconut cream served in a coconut shell. The banana cake with coconut ice cream which was his mother's recipe, was really balanced between the warm and fragant banana cake with touches of coconut flakes and the ice cream. I didn't think I would have room for dessert but it was too tasty not to finish! What also sets Chao Banh apart is the ambiance is very inviting, impeccably decorated and so charming inside a renovated French villa. Highly recommend the great food, attentive staff, beautiful space and overall experience. Save room for dessert!

Very happy we came here for dinner. The food was the best of our trip and the vibe of the outdoor seating is so cute. The inside is a four storey beautiful old home done up as a restaurant. Service was great! We would definitely come back our next visit. Oh and I can’t forget the dessert! We had the crème brûlée and the chocolate cake, delicious!

Nice place to get a different experience for Vietnamese food. Recommend their bbq pork. Slightly overpriced but it is in Michelin guide. On my visit, the staff was inattentive, not sure why but it seemed like they prioritised another table more 🤔 took many tries to get the service staff attention while the other table was constantly checked on.

The food was amazing — especially the grilled shrimp, which was absolutely my favorite. Chào Bạn has such a beautiful and unique space, definitely one of the nicest spots in Tây Hồ. But make sure you go to the right location — the one created by Executive Chef Vincent Cao Minh Page, at Villa 28, Alley 11, Tô Ngọc Vân. That’s where you’ll get the real, original Chào Bạn flavors they’ve kept consistent for over five years. I’ve been a loyal customer for a long time, and every visit just reminds me why I keep coming back. Highly recommend!

Ordered pork in caramel sauce, vegetables with garlic, eggplant tofu, and crab nem, and everything was delicious. The nem was a bit salty for me, but my friend enjoyed it. The staff were very kind, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was amazing. I will definitely visit again the next time I’m in Hanoi.

Our family of three made a reservation at Chao Ban and was glad that we came here. The restaurant is in a cute 4 level house. The service here was excellent. We were greeted by their staff and sat down outside. The food was unique with lots of flavor. We would definitely come back for it.
