Chapel House

One of the most memorable lodging experiences I have had in a long lifetime of travel. A unique, beautiful place with superb staff and service. The owner, Ms. Stuart, is on top of everything, aided by her very pleasant and hardworking staff, Kate and Michelle. She has transformed a near derelict building into a marvelous guest house. Stuart's architectural skills and decorative instincts are perfectly expressed in a minimalist fashion, but be aware this place is definitely not ADA compliant. We booked into Suite 1, and were rewarded with a sensational two-story suite. The bottom floor consisted of the bedroom and bathroom, the latter with a huge shower employing both a vertical down shower and a handheld device. Upstairs is a living room with a 270 degree view of the harbor from the kitchen and two balconies. In this living/kitchen area is a large, comfy sofa, a decent sized TV, a fully stocked kitchen with microwave (the fridge came with wine, fresh milk, a bowl of fruit) tea water heater, plates and cutlery, and a fabulous view of the harbor from kitchen stools pulled up to a wide counter in front of a huge window adorned with fresh cut flowers. Two doors on either side of the room lead to the balconies and the doors can be opened to let a pleasant cross breeze blow your way. Again, not ADA compliant, but a wonderful place to call home in Penzance. And not to be missed at Chapel House are the breakfasts that come with the room replete with all sorts of goodies like croissants, smoked salmon, eggs cooked to your order, great teas and coffees, and marmalade, jams, fresh fruit and eggs and bacon. It was my birthday and what should appear but a small, delicious chocolate cake, that we savored for days, one slice at at time.

First time staying here and it was perfect. It’s a beautiful house and so gorgeous inside. The rooms are so comfortable, well appointed and modern while still retaining a lot of original features. |Breakfast is a meal to look forward to and will set you up for the day ahead. |A real bonus was coming back in the middle afternoon to a very welcome cup of tea/coffee and slice of delicious cake. |Later we were treated to a glass of wine before going out in the evening. Husband had a specific dietary requirement and it was really no trouble to them. We had a truly wonderful relaxing time . As did our dog.

Chapel House is an idyllic retreat, nestled in the stunning landscape of Cornwall. The peaceful atmosphere, combined with the expert guidance and care from Kate and Sue, made for a truly unforgettable wellness experience. If you’re looking for a weekend of relaxation, rejuvenation, and exceptional hospitality, I couldn’t recommend Chapel House highly enough. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

Chapel House is the perfect place to enjoy Penzance and the immediate area of West Cornwall.|Many of its elegant bedrooms look over the harbour to Mounts Bay. During a previous stay I could watch the sunrise from the comfort of my bed. This time I missed out on a seaview but enjoyed a towering four poster bed, strikingly upholstered in purple and orange and had less reason to stay in bed but rather, took early morning strolls along the promenade to Newlyn before tucking-in to a feast of a leisurely breakfast. |Nothing seems too much trouble for host Susan Stuart and her charming team of three.|There are maps, tide guides, wellies and waterproofs to help enjoy the coast and countryside whatever the weather ...and at the end of the day there are serene drawing rooms with local art on the walls and multiple outside spaces for sundowners.|It is the perfect retreat to discover this stunning part of Cornwall.

We had a wonderful stay at Chapel House. The place itself is beautiful and lovely kept, but what truly made our visit memorable was the warm and thoughtful hospitality of the people who run it. We felt at home and would wholeheartedly recommend it. We’d be delighted to return.

Loved it from the moment I walked in, such a friendly welcome and the room was just perfect. Loved the breakfast, have to say the best fruit salad was just the best I’ve had anywhere. Nothing was too much trouble and very much enjoyed the tea and cake after a long day out and about. As a solo traveller felt this was very much a safe haven.

What a lovely place to stay in Penzance! We stayed in the suite next door to the main house & couldn’t have found a better spot. Susan and Kate made us welcome and feel at home. The food was delicious..fresh and beautifully prepared. A gracious accommodation and a perfect location for enjoying Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole…walkable along the coastal path so you can wander back and forth from the Chapel House easily. Several lovely gardens close by which we would recommend highly. Our room was immaculate and freshened daily. The suite has a refrigerator, tea, coffee, china and cutlery, even sharp knives. Has a stove, although we didn’t use it..but nice to have! We would recommend the Chapel House without reservations.

Chapel house is a gem!! Highly recommend anyone visiting Cornwall to base here From the minute you walk into the beautiful house, you are met with a level of detail in your surroundings and Susan Stuart ( and her staff’s) personal attention that is rare to find She helped us plan itineraries that were off the beaten path of the guide books and the accommodations and made from scratch breakfasts made it hard to leave chapel house! We have traveled to many beautiful places around the world and stayed at many five star accommodations This is at the top of our list
