What an amazing Gem! We were down for the weekend so searched “best restaurant in Hay-on-wye” and we were not disappointed. The owner/front of house was so friendly and shouting out other local businesses, which was so refreshing to hear. The food was delicious and the wine was too! We are already planning our next visit in the summer and will definitely be back.

Wow what a lovely place to eat. I was in the area with a friend and we wanted to try it. Beautiful menu with delicious seasonal food. Amazing presentation, great atmosphere with the period features and wonderful service. It felt cosy. I would recommend to anyone who appreciates great food.

Chapters was the highlight of our stay in Hay-on-Wye! The cosy atmosphere, food and service were all top tier. My partner and I loved every course - everything was presented beautifully, and knowing that the ingredients were all foraged or grown locally and sustainably was fantastic. The Perl Las arancini were a particular favourite of ours. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to make dinner reservations in Hay!

Had a very nice lunch of small plates of deliciousness!! Very much enjoyed an eclectic range of flavours which somehow worked together and stood alone at the same time . My friend and I are only disappointed by one thing…. We haven’t discovered it sooner !! We felt the small and intimate dining space was very warm and welcoming. The food was delicious and the service was excellent….. can’t wait to come and try the evening menu. And I was pleasantly surprised when I got the bill which, let’s face it , these days NEVER happens !! Well done and THANK YOU for the hard work you clearly put into this place .

NO AIR CONDITIONING! We came here in the summer specifically because it was supposed to be the only restaurant in Hay on Wye with air conditioning on a 30+ degree day. There was no air conditioning on despite the very hot weather, so that was a let down. I expected it to be expensive, but not to pay £12 for a sliver of cheese, a teaspoon of chutney and a crumbly seed cracker (the gluten free option). The actual food was OK but you are expected to by 3+ plates per person and with drinks you’re looking at about +£50 a head for a light lunch. Not exactly cost-of-living-crisis appropriate. I also found the server was quite unhelpful and judgemental. I would look at some of the many other lovely Hay on Wye restaurants first 👍

Fantastic food in an intimate setting with top-notch service. We celebrated our anniversary here and had no regrets.

Wow what a perfect little place! My boyfriend chose Chapters for my birthday dinner as a surprise and I couldn’t have been happier:). The service was top tier, the lady that greeted and served us was so lovely and attentive. They catered for my vegan diet with no issues, it was probably one of the tastiest meals out I’ve ever had. The food was so delicious and everything was just the right amount (the strawberry sorbet was soo good!). The atmosphere and music was perfect. Thank you for making my birthday feel extra special ☺️.

Most important tip, MAKE RESERVATIONS!!! The food, service, and atmosphere are fantastic and as expected from a Michelin restaurant! The only issue is really a benefit for customers who have made reservations. There are only 5 two top tables and 2 four tops, so space is exceptionally limited but makes for a very homey feel and experience. If I could only give more than 5 stars!!! Highly recommended!
