Dinner and a Boston Activity: Planetarium/Observatory Edition | Eater Boston

"A major science center with a full-dome planetarium offering immersive space shows (for example, Destination Mars: The New Frontier) and a popular “music under the dome” series that pairs trippy visuals with artists like Pink Floyd and David Bowie; additionally, the museum runs free astronomy events on many Friday nights in nicer months, with program details and same-day updates available via hotline or social media." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

The Charles Hayden Planetarium, an integral feature of the Museum of Science at 1 Science Park, is, in my astronomical estimation and based on the frequent, genuinely mesmerized accounts from every friend and colleague I know who has attended a show, a truly breathtaking and immersive celestial theater that offers an unparalleled journey through the cosmos, brilliantly combining state-of-the-art digital projection with profound educational content. Everyone I’ve spoken with consistently praises the stunning clarity and vast scale of the full-dome visuals, the engaging and knowledgeable live presenters who skillfully guide audiences through space, and the sheer awe-inspiring feeling of witnessing distant galaxies and nebulae up close, emphasizing that the Planetarium successfully delivers a high-value, spectacular experience that makes the universe feel both accessible and infinitely wondrous. I’ve learned from their narratives that the atmosphere is one of shared wonder, deep intellectual fascination, and spectacular, escapist beauty, making it an exceptional, high-value destination for anyone seeking to reconnect with the sheer magnitude of the universe. My subjective conclusion is that the Charles Hayden Planetarium is an irreplaceable civic gem and a mandatory experience for aspiring stargazers and casual visitors alike - a definitive Boston highlight - so I strongly urge you to book a show and prepare to have your perspective on the cosmos completely revolutionized!

I've been to this plantarium for a few shows and it is pretty good. The seats inside recline and are nice & comfortable. Their special music series with a light and visual show on the dome was great. I saw the Coldplay experience this weekend and it was more than I was expecting. The visuals were very well themed, from solar system exploration to wormholes, blended with some of their greatest hits. They have a few different shows playing with different genres of music and they will be starting new ones soon. Tip: There are lots of flashing lights and moving visuals that make you feel as if you are flying. If this bothers you, I wouldn't recommend it.

Really cool experience altogether, being inside the Boston Science museum. The star/galaxy displays are really neat and well explained. Makes you feel a bit small and less important when seen in these perspectives. The show was educational and eye opening. The audience participation was fun and made it more interesting. The visuals of this presentation do a great job for what we are capable of and can only get better with more exploration/interest.

I saw the Radiohead Musical Experience here and it was amazing! The sound and visuals were amazing and it really was worth the $10 admission. Seats were comfortable and the whole experience was really memorable and totally recommended. We'll be keeping an eye on the schedule for the musical "experiences", for sure. Update: Returned for the Radiohead Experience again which was just slightly changed but still great. We also saw the Pink Floyd The Wall show and it was incredible and also highly recommended.

We saw the Laser Floyd show on a Saturday night and it was so cool! They played the whole Dark Side of the Moon album and then did Comfortably Numb as an encore. The place was almost completely full for a 9:30 show, which surprised me, but that just shows how good it is!

What an amazing experience at the planetarium. There is so much to see here. The price for a show is very affordable as well. Can't wait to go back.
