East Village Vegetarian Restaurant Superiority Burger Reopens - Eater NY

"Charles Pan-Fried Chicken is now open at its new location in Harlem at 1325 Fifth Avenue, between East 111th and 112th streets. The historic restaurant, which started as a sidewalk barbecue stand in the neighborhood, has spawned a handful of takeout shops across Manhattan, where the chef Charles Gabriel and his disciples fry their chicken in massive cast iron skillets. The next location is planned for 439 W 125th Street, between Morningside and Amsterdam avenues, in West Harlem." - Luke Fortney

It's a take out location but after interacting with Anastasia I would prefer it was a sit down restaurant. She provided the best service at the counter one could ever imagine. Not only was she fast and polite, her conversation was informative and engaging. She even talked about the Mac-n-cheese, and their commitment to getting the recipe right for the customers approval. Side note, the Mac was the only really downfall. It also helped that the location was clean, smelled good, and even though it was freezing outside it was toasty inside.

I originally ordered from a different restaurant for tacos and my order was refunded and canceled. I guess they were closed but it said the wrong timing on Google so I decided I need to try Charles pan fried chicken it’s been a long time I have been wanting to do so. I quickly called the restaurant to make sure they were still excepting orders for delivery as it was getting close to closing time. The lovely lady that answered the phone was so courteous and so absolutely helpful and sweet. I knew right away before I ordered that I was going to have a great experience, well I was crossing my fingers, but my wish just came true. I have never been happier with the customer service, the food, and the delivery time ever for any restaurant order I have placed online. I am very upset with myself that I forgot to order the cornbread but I did order mashed potatoes and gravy and they sent me yams but I get it they were closing and they probably didn’t have it but I really wanted to taste the gravy. The yams were so amazing , the mac & cheese is off the hook. The coleslaw is OMG delicious, and the pan fried chicken is the juiciest chicken with the nicest crunchy exterior I have ever had ever! The barbecue rib sauce is stellar, and the ribs fall off the bone, so freaking good! I am so happy that I tried this restaurant finally I will definitely be ordering from them very very soon! I highly recommend, and I cannot believe I could’ve been enjoying the best dinner ever so many times already! Everything everything tasted so phenomenal! Bravo Charles!!!!!

The food lacked flavor (fry chicken, collard greens, and mash potato). The cornbread was underbaked in the middle and the bottom was burnt. The peach cobbler and banana pudding were edible. The service was great. I got my food quickly and the staff were nice. The space was small. There is only outdoor seating and it’s 2 large tables.

Having not been in NYC for many, many years I was pleased to find this place. The Chicken is a definite 5+, just perfection, crispy, light, juicy chicken. The Pulled Pork was a 3, as someone who smokes a lot of meats, the consistency of this pork is what you will get when the temperature fluctuates too much during the cook process, the meat a bit dry and stringy. The BBQ sauce however was a hit for us and was the pork defibrillator. The Mac n Cheese was very good, as was the Greens. The Black Eye Peas were flavorful however the beans needed to cook down quite a bit more. There are a myriad of other sides to try here and all looked delicious. I will definitely stop back in when I am in NYC!!

Just opened! We tried pan-fried chicken, ribs, M&C, and yams. Chicken was good. Yams were a bit too sweet for me. However there are so many other sides to try. They have lunch and dinner specials. I will definitely come back for catfish next week.

A bit underwhelming :/ the turkey wings were not seasoned and soggy, the Mac and cheese was very dry and didn’t have much cheese in it…. Just on the top. The greens were decent. I definitely had to Dr. up the meal which is upsetting especially since I paid $20. I guess I will just stick to the 145th location. Which is unfortunate because this location is closer to me.

Hubby and I have been craving some good southern food for some time. Sis in-law suggested Charles pan fried Chicken and she was right. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Anastasia. She was extremely nice and made sure to answer all of our questions about the food. Now let’s get to the food! Hubby and I both ordered the pan fried chicken and ribs combo. We got potato salad, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and green beans along with a side of cornbread. We also tried one of their drinks. It was a mix of the homemade limeade and the southern punch, and that was amazing! The food was amazing the drink was amazing and the service was amazing. The collard greens have a great southern foavor. I would highly recommend anyone craving great soul food to come to Charles pan fried chicken! You will not be disappointing! Thank you again Anastasia for the great service.
