Such an amazing facility. We have adopted here before, did again today, and will do it again in the future. They explain everything so deeply and answer any and all question you might have. Kai is the one who helped us today and was amazing. Very thankful. 🤍

We were looking to adopt a cat and looked at the Charleston Animal Shelter. Everyone that helped us was super kind and helpful. You can tell they have a passion for what they do and I felt really good about looking for our little soul kitty there. We ended up adopting from their kittens at the West Ashley Pet Smart. The people at PetSmart were not as nice and I felt super rushed and like I was being a burden to them. I hope all of the cats especially the Pet Smart kitties get adopted soon. They need love and attention and aren't getting the same attention as the cats at the actual shelter. Luckily, we still found one and saved it from Pet Smart. We are in love with our new kitty cat.

My boyfriend and I moved here with my cat who has helped raise multiple kittens and, since his siblings didn’t move with us (my mom’s cats) we decided to get him a companion. We went to this shelter spontaneously and hoped that we could find an older sweet kitty to bond with our baby. We found Shadow, a sweet tuxedo with a bubbly personality. The shelter was absolutely amazing, super friendly and supportive, and very informative to make sure Shadow was finding the perfect home. The kitties have been desperate to hang out and warmed up much quicker than we expected. Thank you so much and we will take very good care of this baby!

Adopted the sweetest kitten this past weekend during the free adoption event. Everyone there was so pleasant and knowledgeable. Very clean building with great customer service 👍🏻 Bitsy

I recently adopted from Charleston Animal Society and my pup is so well behaved! She is a blessing. The staff at Charleston Animal Society is friendly super helpful and supplies health records and support. They also offer pet insurance which has already refunded part of my first Vet visit. Absolutely worth it. Thank you for the rescue pup that rescued me! 5 stars ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️already looking forward to my next adoption from Charleston Animal Society!

Google
I wont be adopting from you or going through any of your programs. Nikki you were exceptionally rude! You called me, and when I ask questions on why your site and what you're telling me aren't lining up on the available dogs for the listed program and its link to the dogs for said program. You interrupted me multiple times and hung up on me. This is not acceptable. Consider a redo in customer service AND make sure you're honest on your website to the public about the actual dogs that GO HOME with people. Since we dont even meet them, and you just choose one in the back. Right.

Great experience lots of wonderful animals there! We just adopted a 2 month old gorgeous baby

Do not simply listen to the people at the window… do research before and know exactly what you want when you go. They told me to contact pet rest if I wanted remains back but then when I contacted pet rest I was informed that Charleston animal society has already disposed of my pet like trash. No explanation other than “group cremation” truly no other explanation. It was a hard enough experience for me to pet down my pet in the situation we were in. These people are trained to be cold and detached. I understand it’s the only way to do the job sometimes but people bring their pets there expecting them to be cared for. I was denied being able to be with my pet during their last moments then also had the physical memories of them taken away from me due to one employee not really hearing what my responses were or just trying to rush me out of there. Not sure which one but either way I could never support them after this. Not to mention I paid $200-$250 to essentially have my pet stolen… I requested documentation to be sent to me so I could better understand how they were allowed to just make my pet disappear within 48 hours when I was comply told to contact pet rest which I did, and I’m still the one at a loss. They got their $250 so their happy I guess. Sad lesson I learned and have to live with for the rest of my life but hopefully nobody else will make the same one. Pay the extra to go to your own personal vet, be with your pet during that time.

Yelp
Hello My name is Emilie Cox. We've been loyally fostering for Charleston Animal killers I mean society for years. Yesterday, They wrongfully euthanized my little baby Coral for no given reason. When Coral was brought in, Charleston was told she was injured. No tests were done, No exams were done. We knew she had a soft Fontanelle, However that doesnt cause a dog harm it just means you must be cautious. We brought the sweet baby in to an emergency vet when she fell and started screaming, However she sid not fall on her head. The vet told us we would keep her there overnight just incase so that she could be checked by neuro in the morning to make sure there was no fluid around her brain. Charleston Animal Society denied the overnight stay and skipped straight to euthanasia. Not believing there was anything truly wrong, We(My Family) Offered to take her into our care and pay for whatever treatments she may have needed. Charleston Animal Society, Refused again. The "President" Of Charleston Animal Society, Along with the COO make 6 Figures a year, And couldnt pay $1300 To save our sweet 3-4 month old baby. My babies life was worth the $1300 headache. They told us there was fluid around her brain, But we were given the estimate for the visit and there was not a single test or image taken to prove anything was wrong with her at all. For all we know she could have just had a bruise and she was being how Chihuahuas are(Dramatic). I miss my sweet babygirl and she was killed for no reason by Charleston Animal Society. Bring your donations elsewhere because this is an awful place. The people running this place have no care or sympathy for the fosters, Adopters, or even the animals. All they care about is how it benefits them and their paychecks. The photos I added are of my sweet babygirl Coral.I cant believe they would do such a cruel thing and take her away so soon. Rest easy baby, along with all the others that Charleston Animal Society murdered.I hope the thought of what you did to her keeps you up at night.

Yelp
We've adopted another kitten from CAS. Great location, and many wonderful animals are available for adoption for everyone. We appreciate the work they do and frequently donate to hrlp their cause. Please adopt.

Yelp
I want to say Thanks for letting me adopted Lilo my new staffordshire pittbull, I was so afraid that Lilo would not come to me when I was in the room with her I know they watch you but Lilo came right over and we got along right away my heart and soul was so happy. So Cllay came into the room, I said I wanted to adopt her and that is my journey back to happiness after losing both my dogs back to back in 2024. Pls foster or adopt give a furbaby a chance to have a furever home. Davina

Yelp
I'm always so impressed with CAS. It's clean, designed beautifully and has so many different areas for you to interact with animals. The fundraising they do is always fun and for a good cause! I donate a lot of blankets, sheets and towels that are just sitting in the closets unused. They're always taking donations, have an Amazon wish list and they use Amazon Smile. They provide low cost procedures to help with spay, neutering and vaccines. They offer a reading to dogs program for kids which is $5 and allows kids to sit and was with a stuffy to the dog. What a great way to get the child reading and for dogs to interact with tiny humans. I def recommend supporting them in any way you can!

Yelp
What a wonderful service for Charleston County animals!! An absolutely wonderful (and huge!) animal rescue with lots of resources for new and existing pet owners. I've also worked with them to TNR some community cats in my neighborhood. They are so easy to work with and I can't believe that it's free!! The only downside that I've ever experienced is that they're often so busy that it can be hard to find a staff member to talk to and they're often visibly overwhelmed, but I figure that speaks to how many amazing things they are doing and the large numbers of animals they're helping. I recently went through volunteer training to help out where I can and I can't wait to be more hands-on.

Justin R.

Yelp
*Charleston Animal Society is a KILL SHELTER* I was under the impression the CAS was a "no kill shelter" especially considering this is heavily advertised on their website as well as throughout their facility. Unfortunately I found out this was not the case. I rescued a stray dog wandering the street and took him home while I attempted to find his owners. He quickly adapted to my home and played with my two dogs. He showed zero signs of aggression, even when eating and sharing toys with my dogs. He had a microchip and my personal veterinarian and I exhausted all efforts attempting to make contact with the listed owners. Finally, one of the owners (Dan) reached out and said his wife took the dog years ago during their divorce and she gave him away to a friend (Heather) about a year ago. My calls to her went unanswered. Dan was unfortunately not able to take his dog back due to current lease restrictions. I was also unable to locate a new home for the dog after searching for a week. I brought him to the Charleston Animal Society believing they would find him a home through their adoption campaign. I was wrong. I called for an update the next day and the CAS manager, Christina Ellwood, said there was a high probability he would be euthanized after showing signs of aggression in the shelter and reports from one of the previous owners of the dog biting her. I assured Christina I witnessed zero signs of aggression and would happily adopt the dog myself to avoid him being euthanized. I also emphasized the way a scared dog responds while in a shelter is a poor assessment of their behavior. In addition, I was shocked she would take the words from the owners who dumped the dog in the street over my impression of the dog. I am a responsible dog owner, but Christina elected to take the words of the owners who abandoned the dog over mine. After pleading with her on the phone she outright denied my ability to pick up the dog. She repeatedly cited legal reasons about keeping the community safe from this "aggressive" dog. However, the only way to save the dog from this shelter was if one of the owners signed the animal over to me. Luckily, the male owner (Dan) who hasn't been with the dog in years immediately agreed after I informed him the dog would likely be euthanized. He further emphasized the fact the dog has never shown aggression and was shocked he would potentially be euthanized. Dan and I both met at the shelter today, and we were able to rescue the dog from the Charleston Animal Society. I made sure Christina Ellwood witnessed the dogs loving and non-aggressive reaction to being with me again and urged her to never again base an animals outcome on behavior while locked in a crate, as well as take the words of people who abandoned the dog in the street. During my initial phone conversation with her she also said the dog was returned numerous times in the past. Apparently this also didn't fair well in the decision making process for this poor dog. After some research, I found he was returned once because he chased the adopters cat. The second return was because the adopter had a dog that was aggressive towards this dog, The CAS also charged me $300.00 for room and board while in their possession before returning him to me. I had to pay to save the dog from the shelter that I thought would save him. In summary, the Charleston Animal Society is in fact a KILL SHELTER. Christina Ellwood seems to be the judge, jury and executioner. Luckily the dog is now happy and safe in my home again. Be cautious before donating or surrendering to this "humane" shelter. Next time I rescue an animal I will ensure they go to a rescue organization. Shame on you Christina and shame on the CAS for making saving this dog an absolute headache and nightmare.

Yelp
We got one of our pups here over 9 years ago now. They are always in need of supplies and I frequently drop off pillows, leashes, blankets and other pet items. And they are always in need of volunteers, adoptees and foster care for cats and dogs. Each time I visit it's a pleasure!

Kathryn D.

Yelp
Well kept animals and caring workers. I truly liked the service I was given. And, most of all the dog Willow we got is wonderful.

Yelp
What a great place for care of cats, dogs, even horsez. The first of every month my wife and I take them 75 to 100 pounds of cat food, in memory of our 23 year old cat Moriah that was our own adopted rescue kitty
google avatar

Kiersten H.

Yelp
They're always in need of items and I've donated multiple times and they're always grateful. A good clean shelter. I've seen a lot of reviews saying people can't get ahold of them and they don't answer their calls or DMs... they are a very busy shelter so you should probably try just going up there. They're first priorities are the people in front of them just like 99.9% of businesses run. Make a trip up there and you wouldn't be disappointed.

Yelp
Had my mini Aussie pup's neutering procedure here and they had the system down like a factory. It was a drive up/drop off situation. There were a few minor hiccups because their receptionist had written some incorrect information down when I called to make the appointment (transposed numbers in my address and telephone number)- but other than that it went smoothly! The staff was very sweet and took great care of my pup. His surgery and recovery went well! I was one happy and relieved mama!

Yelp
Love fostering for CAS! The staff is awesome and if you are lucky enough that Paul is the one doing your fosters' recheck appointments - you are really in luck! Paul is always mindful to let you know what was done such as vaccinations, the microchipping, etc., and also to give you the weights of your foster babies (important when you are fostering for growth). He isn't the only amazing staff member that deals with the public regularly, but he does such an awesome job that I felt this review deserved to recognize him. Any chance to help CAS save a life is worthwhile. I adore their foster program, foster coordinators, vets, techs, and the staff who are so friendly while you wait for the recheck to be completed. I also like to browse through the available merchandise and get a lot of my toys there because each purchase helps them save more lives.

Yelp
Been searching for a dog to adopt for awhile. Stopped in on Saturday and it just happened to be a clear the shelter event. We immediately found our guy. Staff were AMAZING answering all of questions. The shelter provides all of the meds and follow up for heart worm treatment giving these guys a real shot at a good life. Our boy will be spoiled rotten. We are now donators and hope to volunteer in the future. Such a wonderful shelter

Yelp
This place is incapable of both answering the phone AND returning my phone call. Truly disappointing and I'm not sure why they're so dysnfunctional. I'd do ZERO stars if I could.

Yelp
The staff here is incredible! Yesterday I went home with my new best friend, Marshmallow. She's an albino bunny. They gave me the whole rundown about her before adopting. They are very knowledgeable and it is apparent they care deeply for all animals. It is always immaculate every time we visit. What really stood out to me was the fact that they really took the time to inform me about the "do's and don'ts". Bunnies are a lot of times overlooked and end up not receiving proper care. You guys are a blessing. Thank you for everything you do for the animals and our community Also, if you ever wanna swing by there is always treats for both cats and dogs readily accessible if you want to go show the fur babes some love

Yelp
Awesome Facility at the Charleston Animal Society! This is we're we adopted our 2 dogs! Our son makes homemade dog treats every year, don't he is dropping those off today. 5 Stars for Charleston Animal Society thank you for all that you do for the animals!!

Yelp
I can not say enough about the hard working dedicated animal loving staff that shows up everyday and puts in long days to keep the less fortunate of our fur babies housed and well. From the famous Caitlyn to the unknown Oreo to all the foster puppies and kittens saved each day, they keep going even when it can be so heartbreaking at times. Just visited today as they rescued a group from St. Croix due to the recent hurricanes and the over whelming number of homeless pets now. Always so happy to watch them keep smiling and assisting the babies to finding their forever homes!
google avatar

Chelsi U.

Yelp
Gosh I love it here! I like to visit the animals and play with them. I came a bit before Christmas and there were a lot of animals. My mom and I played with the kitties and looked at the dogs. There were some kittens that just showed up and they were rambunctious! So much fun. I love that they are a no-kill shelter. I have to add that I came back to play with the animals after the holidays and they were cleaned out! So exciting that they were all adopted before the holidays. How sweet!
google avatar

Mckenna V.

Yelp
I took my kitten here for a spay surgery and the "works" vaccine and microchip package. The facilities were very clean and the staff was incredible. I was teary leaving her but the staff was great at reassuring me they would take care of my baby. They were nice enough to call me after she was done in surgery, and give me an update on her status. I will 100% be back for her yearly vaccines and maybe a brother or sister for my kitten.

Yelp
How could you give anything but five stars to any one that saves animals!!?!! I have visited Charleston animal Society on several occasions to just go in and play with the dogs and cats. I have a huge heart for Rescue and Foster! Today was different! Today was the day that we went in and adopted a new member of our pack! What is meant to be is always meant to be and thanks to Kay Hyman, we now have a glorious new male malamute husky mix who will now forever be known as Logan from wolverine of the X-Men! We are loving on Him as an entire family, including his new fur sister Sadie. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you do to save the animals!!
google avatar

Brigitti J.

Yelp
It is a no kill shelter so I feel safe that they will hold the animals until the they can find a new owner for them.
google avatar

Scotty C.

Yelp
Wow, what an amazing facility. I haven't adopted from them myself, but I've had an extensive tour of the entire place. I could never have imagined how involved the process is of not only taking care of all these animals, but also getting them adopted out, performing spay and neuter procedures, as well as taking care of sick animals. The laundry alone for blankets, towels, etc is a full time gig of its own. You can easily see that everyone involved is one hundred percent invested in the well being of every animal under their care. They're constantly taking every measure possible to make the animals as comfortable and cared for as possible. You should only adopt an animal if you're willing to take on the responsibility. That being said, if you're ready to do so, make your way over to Charleston Animal Society!
google avatar

Marc J.

Yelp
Never have I ever....had a bad experience with the folks at the Charleston Animal Society. They are always grateful when I bring donations, and will even help me unload them from my car. But what I love most is being able to visit with adoptees on occasion. Of course, COVID put an end to that for now. Nonetheless, any chance you have to support this no-kill shelter will be met with overwhelming gratitude!

Eric S.

Yelp
For some reason they won't return phone calls and when I call I can't get a human on the phone. What's the reason of having a phone system if they don't use it? Are they in business to help animals or just a front to launder donations? How can I get help when nobody will return phone calls? A very terrible way to do business. Especially, when you claim to care for animals.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful place to support, volunteer, or adopt. We adopted a beautiful Australian Shepherd named Riley on Wednesday and she has stolen our hearts already. Right now, the first 100 adult dog adoptions are only $25. Go find your new best friend! Adopt, don't shop.
google avatar

Jennie D.

Yelp
I'm sure this place is wonderful, but we came here to adopt a fur-ever baby and we met her, but thought it would be a good idea to also meet some of the other sweet puppies that caught our eye. What we weren't told was that if we put a puppy back and someone else wants to take that puppy, you can no longer have the puppy. Sure, we get it, but if someone had communicated that to us, we never would have met the other puppies that day and only met the one puppy we were sure we wanted. It was just poor communication from several of the staff. And then another staff member went and told the family that we were waiting on their decision on the puppy so that family came back saying they wanted the puppy after they came back into the building looking right at us. It really wasn't a great experience, but I'm giving 3 stars because I know this company does great things for our 4 legged friends.

Yelp
Came by here on my lunch break yesterday. I had several bags of towels, blankets, and sheets to drop off. I have been ton the facility before. I love that I am right down the street from where I work. I love what this organization stands for. The staff is always great. The Charleston Animal Society offers so many services. This place is great if you want to support, volunteer, or even adopt! Keep up the good work!

Laura Ray R.

Yelp
I can't know any info because they don't answer their fb messages, email, phone calls or respond to VOICEMAILS.

Yelp
The Charleston Animal Society is the best place in the Charleston area to find a rescue. They are a well run organization that have a wonderful mission that I have admired for a number of years. Their staff is very helpful and knowledgeable and does a great amount of good for the animals of Charleston. This is a great place to visit, support, and volunteer for and I enjoy coming here on a regular basis. The facility is beautiful and works well to support the mission of Charleston Animal Society. This place is great and I recommend it if you are looking to adopt or foster a pet.

Yelp
Top Notch Professional Service from all the staff in this establishment. So glad I did my research and found this place to do my Bulldogs spaying. Now, my vet does do it but the quote was roughly $500. This facility charged $100. They also gave me pain medication for my dog included in that fee. Unbelievable difference. It's a very busy place and difficult to get anyone via phone. So if you need a sterilisation book it online. So much easier. They also offer vaccinations, deworming, micro chipping & diagnostics much cheaper than mainstream vets. Definitely worth checking out. I am very very happy with the services I received today.

Tyler D.

Yelp
I've adopted 3 dogs from them so far. Very easy process and the people there are very knowledgeable on the needs of these pets and the individual dogs themselves. I love that they always offer to take a picture and the no kill shelter piece was definitely an eye opener for me coming from up north. They also provide needed treatments to the animals at no cost. CAS really is the place to get your animal, and can't wait to volunteer there soon.
google avatar

Emma H.

Yelp
We adopted a beautiful 8 month old puppy here last week. They keep the facility in good condition, staff was helpful, the adoption fee was affordable ($200 which is comparatively low for a young dog) and includes one "well visit" with a bunch of veterinarians in the area. We got really lucky with our pup, she's in excellent health per her vet yesterday, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped by CAS, and incredibly sweet. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Timothy A.

Yelp
We scheduled an appointment for our puppy to be neutered, and arrived at 7:30am as indicated. Be advised, that GPS will take you to the back of the building, when you really need to be at the front to enter, so pay attention. Drop off was a fairly smooth process, and my pup was very excited to be there (if he only knew) so an assistant came out and brought him back early so that I could complete the paperwork in the lobby. Their lobby has no traction on it, so as a pup gets excited, he / she really can't go anywhere. The lobby also opens up in to their gift shop and adoption center, so when I picked him up later and had the kids with me, they had a chance to look at the kittens and gifts for our pup. All in all a very smooth experience, and they took time to explain the next steps that we needed to take to ensure that our boy had a speedy and safe recovery. A microchip service was also offered for a fee, so if he every wants to explore the neighborhood, we can be assured that once someone finds him and reports him, we'll be getting him back with little wait time.

Yelp
Just took a really big donation from the company I work for. They were so sweet! It was immaculately clean too! All animals were clean and had food/water/bed/toys! I'm so happy we could help a no kill shelter flourish!
google avatar

Shane S.

Yelp
Had an awesome time! Got to meet a lot of great people doing extraordinary things! You never realize the full lengths of things being done for these helpless animals until you get a look at what's going on behind the scenes. Everyone that works here is a hero in my book!
google avatar

Max M.

Yelp
I really do not know anyone who would have something bad to say about the Charleston Animal Society. The worst thing that I could ever think of is that there are too many people (the public) coming and going in the lobby which makes it a bit crowded at times. Other than that the staff is wonderful (and certainly able to multitask), the dog pens and the cat are as clean as a whistle from what I can tell. Attention to detail is something at the top of their list of ways to help the public and to help animals brought to them. I remember years ago when they were the John Ancrum SPCA and were located in a dingy little place close to the Charleston County Jail. (Thankfully I am unable to rate the jail regarding accommodations. But I digress...) This is the second time that I have adopted an animal from them, the first time being about 14 years ago when they were still the SPCA and then one month ago after the passing of my 15 year old Border Collie mix. If you can donate, money and/or time to this worthy charity.

Yelp
if you're looking to call them at ANY extension, they will NEVER answer. my girlfriend and i have tried each extension at least twice and NOTHING. voicemail every single time. unprofessional.

Yelp
Charleston Animal Society is a wonderful organization that does so much to help animals in the Charleston area. They are excellent in taking care of and rescuing animals and later helping to foster and adopt those same animals. I am impressed with the amount of animals they are able to help and the care and dedication that their staff and volunteers give those animals. This is truly a great organization that is well run and managed.
google avatar

Dana D.

Yelp
CAS has done quite a lot in the past 5 years to increase their live release rate, aka, reduce the number of euthanasias. This is not a no-kill shelter, but they have done some really innovative things to try to adopt out as many healthy animals as possible. They also don't turn away any animals, unlike a true no-kill shelter that can't accept every animal. For the most part the staff there is friendly. There are some staff members that can be a little gruff, which I assume is partly due to the stress of working in a place where they probably see a lot of horrible things with regards to animal welfare. They have a beautiful facility and many wonderful volunteers that help keep the place running. I think they are understaffed for the number of animals that they take in, so I would give them the benefit of the doubt if you run into any customer service issues. I wouldn't take any crap, but understand that the staff are likely overworked and underpaid.
google avatar

Marian H.

Yelp
Clean shelter and staff eager to help people adopt animals. I have adopted several cats from here in the last decade and they were all good cats and I got one free vet visit and a bag of food, sometimes even a food dish and info on pet health ins. Tend to have a lot of large dogs though and not many small ones like I prefer. I adopted my 4 year old chihauhau a little over a year ago from Berkeley county and it cost me $200 adoption fee and no free vet visit. He was terrified, shaking , & covered with flea bites/dermatitis, had worms, and it cost me a small fortune in vet visits, tests, meds, etc. over several months to get him straight . He is a beautiful, adjusted dog now with a great coat. I don't think this would have happened had I been able to adopt from Charleston county. Charleston County probably gets more funds/donations than Berkeley County? I stopped in today to see if there was another "calling" for me to rescue a buddy for my dog..there wasn't but I noticed they have a nice shop of dog sweaters, toys, leashes, etc. ..for cats, also. I picked up a nice small dog sweater for only $4..I had been paying twice that at Walmart. Toys looked pretty durable for $4 up. Check out their great Facebook page
google avatar

Jordan D.

Yelp
I was very impressed with the facility. Friendly staff, clean and humane living conditions. Large selection of cats and dogs. I liked that they had rooms to try out the pets and get acquainted before deciding on a new family member. Adoption fees seem to be negotiable and they run specials for adoptions. They also offer a wide range of services to include obedience classes and spay/neuter. I would recommend CAS to anyone in search of a new pet.

Yelp
I am so thankful that Charleston Animal Society is a no kill shelter. Jilly, now Belle, would never have made it in a high kill shelter. The beauty of this hound was hidden under too many other problems. Thankfully, she was waiting for me to bring her home. The shelter is very clean, well organized and sells everything that a potential adopter could need ... Right down to a toy. The staff is busy but will figure out how to make time for you. The only thing that confused me was that they didn't have a lot of dog kennels. I'm just curious what happens when and if they don't have room. I'm just glad I have my Belle.

Yelp
Charleston Animal Society is an amazing place. Staff are so nice and caring. We recently bought a bunch of dog/cat food and blankets to the shelter and while we were there we looked around at all the animals. For a place that can often feel sad the staff are very informative and you can feel that the animals get a lot of love from them. We were there when someone was playing with a dog outside and it was nice to here the staff not only talk about the obvious stuff like breed and gender but things like he has a favorite toy, he likes to take naps under a blanket, or he's hasn't figured out how to "dog" yet. It comforting that they get to know little personal things about the animals. They also take in other animals besides the typical dogs and cats. They have reptiles and farm animals as well. We had a yelp event and the director said we never say no to an animal we will do out best to find a place for them no matter what. My husband and I try to help out as much as we can. If you don't know what to get you can always go online and donate money that they can use where they need it the most or if you have your own furry friend stop in and get some supplies. All the money goes right back to CAS. We are having a little girl soon and we plan on teaching her how to give back. They will also throw birthday parties at CAS. What a great idea to have fun and bring awareness.

Yelp
If I could give this place a 0 I would have selected it. We brought my dog in to be neutered and they almost killed her. Her uterine artery was not sutured and she bled into her body until she lost 70% of her blood volume. We rushed her at 230am to an emergency vet who immediately put her into surgery and her life was saved. We are very lucky. CAS never returned my calls. I am now left with a $5800 bill for saving my dog's life! So much for a free spay/neuter grant! You think they would at least call me back. I'm sad and disgusted. I want everyone I know to know my experience so they don't lose their pets during this "routine" procedure.

Yelp
I adopted my 2nd kitty from them a year ago....my first one 10 yrs ago when they were something else. I love my kitty to the moon and back. She's a love....and unlike NORTH SHORE ANIMAL LEAGUE, yeah you all know them....I didn't get a nasty, unspayed cat with worms, etc. that they wouldn't take care of. Oh, yeah and NSAL will make you take your cat back to them for spay and neuter....biggest liars of a No Kill Shelter that there ever was.... Thank you CAS for being true to what you say and do...You are my animal heros xxx

Yelp
We visited this center, because we missed our dog while we were vacationing in the area. We loved the dogs. They were so in need of loving families. We even got to play with one of them named Spot whom we fell in love with. So, we returned the next day to sponsor her adoption. We hoped that the staff would find a forever home for her and the family would find a forever puppy in her. She was wonderful. We also fell in love with several other dogs who were pitbulls and labradors. So, we returned with elk antlers for chewing/toys. They totally loved them when we brought them in. I would recommend this place. I met the management team and we were privileged to tour the facility. Nice. They have an industrial size washer for the blankets and toys. The animals had enough room for them to play. If I return, I would go back and help out with the dogs again. Congrats to the staff for working so hard.

Yelp
Charleston Animal Society recently had a big event where dogs and cats were free. So we went in to get a dog at about 11A.M. After filling out overly extensive paperwork, we went inside to find all the dogs were gone already. Turns out they only put some dogs out for the day. I guess it's a good thing that the dogs found homes, I just feel as though the lady who gave us paperwork should have mentioned all the dogs were gone. We later filled out an application to help foster dogs, per an ad we saw. After not hearing anything for a few days, I called. They said fostering doesn't really help and tried to get me to donate money. I guess they get a lot of help, but they shouldn't advertise something they don't need.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place for animals. I love that it's a no kill shelter. The animals here get treated really well, have decent sized kennels and a dog bed or car bed with toys. The dogs get taken on walks outside. The facility is really clean.
