"Another not-to-be-missed spot is Charlie’s Acres, an animal sanctuary that rescues farm animals. Roam the grounds and pet some pigs. If you really want to be one with the animals, try taking one of the goat yoga or sheep meditation classes." - Marisa Churchill

I highly recommend taking a tour of Charlie’s Acres! It provides you with quality animal time with a variety of different animals, something you need whether you know it or not. And it puts you front and center to a positive organization with a positive mission. All of that is very good for the soul :) the vegan picnic and wine pairing was also amazing. Their property is beautiful and picnicking there was worth it.

I love Charlie’s Acres and its staff! My friend, Michael, and I visited on December 17th as well as during the summer. During our latest visit, the vegan picnic, we had Jenny Filak as our guide, source of information, and friendly company. She was wonderful! She highlighted the animals’ stories, took us through each of the main areas as she shared cute/interesting facts about the animals and how we could best interact with them, talked about their backstories and how Charlie’s Acres is now a sanctuary for them, and so much more. She knew so much about them, and it was clear to us that she’s passionate about animal rehabilitation, rescue, and care. It was a lot of fun hearing about her experience and knowledge, seeing her interact with the animals and help us do so in a responsible, considerate way, and then just chatting about our passions while we had a very pleasant vegan😊picnic, which included wine and vegan charcuterie! We got to feed the animals, pet them (respectfully), witness their cute quirks, and observe their family dynamics. Folks at Charlie’s Acres just seem wonderful. We briefly met Joe (who was feeding the animals and caring for them) and Gustavo (who photographs the animals), and both were friendly and pleasant. During our summer visit, we had Greg Ord as our guide and he was also really awesome – knowledgeable, friendly, passionate, and caring. I love having genuine animal lovers introduce us to the beautiful little souls that inhabit Charlie’s Acres, share their wealth of knowledge, and spend time with us talking about how they came to work with these animals. Thank you for the wonderful experiences! I’ve definitely shared how fun and wholesome this is with friends and acquaintances.

Wonderful farm sanctuary that is large and spread out amongst gorgeous scenery. The staff member who led the tour was fantastic. She was as sweet as they come and even accommodated me and wore a mask which I appreciated. The animals are well cared for, happy and thriving. Lovely gift shop with extremely clean bathrooms, high quality clothing and vegan food options.

This is a must-do in Sonoma. When you're ready to take a break from the vineyard tours, call the fine people at Charlie's Acres and schedule a farm tour and picnic (with wine!). Meeting the animals and learning about their idiosyncrasies made you have an appreciation for the sanctuary and all that they do. The picnic was fabulous, the vegan meats and cheeses were the best I've ever tried. You won't regret this unique experience. Don't forget to donate!

This was such a fun experience! Our tour guide showed us around the farm and introduced us to all the animals in the sanctuary. She knew all their names and backstories, and how they ended up at the sanctuary. We were able to interact with animals that normal people don't get to see on a daily basis, like chickens, cows, and pigs. Then we were able to enjoy a picnic with vegan cheeses and "meats." I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who is slightly interested in animals.

I went here in 2021, it was my first time coming to California and our guide was impeccable. Had so much fun with all the animals as well.

A beautiful animal sanctuary run by an amazing staff. They have rescued farm animals and it's heartening to see them living their life in a safe and loving environment. I attended the oktoberfest barn crawl which was very well organized with a range of drinks and plantbased delicacies.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We have been here a few times for different events, and always have the best time. The animals are well loved and have tons of space on this farm. Highly recommend! My daughter had the best time at the Spring event.

Yelp
My sister surprised me for my birthday with a trip to Charlie's Acres. They are an animal sanctuary located in Sonoma, CA. We received a private tour with Jenny, who was very sweet. She was very knowledgeable about all the animals and their history. It was great to learn about her choice to go vegan. I have been to a few animal sanctuaries in the past but none other than Charlie's Acres where you really get up close and personal to the animals. The stories are sad but these animals have been saved and they are living out their best lives. We saw chickens, pigs, goats, sheeps, turkeys and cows. We got to spend time with everyone and really got to know the animals. The best part was their personalities!! When animals are not waiting to become food, they live their lives in happiness and you can really see it. I felt like I really connected with Henry, who is this beautiful brown goat who is disabled. I found out his front leg's bones will never stop growing. He was very sweet, in fact all the animals I visited were so sweet. I love the grounds, the fresh air and tons of acres for all the animals to live their lives. I highly recommend Charlie's Acres if you have a passion for animals, if you have a passion for learning about our food chain and how to make better eating choices, or simply because you want to meet these lovely animals who all have a story and is now free (from abuse, neglect, slaughter, etc). Thank you Charlie's Acres for the work that you do!

Yelp
Charlie's Acres is an incredible farm animal sanctuary. The staff are all highly dedicated to the mission of caring for their rescue animals. We took a tour today and had a fantastic time while learning about the animals at the sanctuary. Wednesday the chicken is a rockstar!

Yelp
What great fun at Charlie's Acres. We have had tours, gone on the barn crawl, had the photo shoot and the picnics. Just a really fun time seeing the animals and the staff is superb. Great for families or a fun couple experience. Highly recommend.

Yelp
What a special place this is! I have never had a more personal and informative tour! I met so many amazing rescued farm animals during my visit. Each rescued animal had a story and our tour guide shared every bit of it! I cracked whole watermelons on the ground and fed the sweetest little piggies and chickens! My birthday spent at this sanctuary was the best gift I could have received. It was such a sight to see all these rescues safe and thriving in their new lives! This is a compassionate place started by clearly compassionate people! What a great place for children to learn! Their gift shop had so many vegan goodies and cute gifts! There are stickers and apparel you can get to support the sanctuary and remember your trip! I cannot wait to come visit again and again! This is a very special place, visit if you ever get the opportunity!

Yelp
We need more places like this to spread the word about the inhumane treatment of animals in the farm industry and the harmony and benefits of the vegan & cruelty free lifestyle.

Yelp
I found this place online while I was looking for a place to take my grandkids. OMG. This place is amazing! All of the animals are recues. They are all spayed and neutered to prevent breeding. The farm is spacious, clean and has lots of shade for the animals. There are even fans in some of the small barns that house the sheep. None of the barns are completely closed in. They all have large open doors so the animals have the freedom to go in and out. If you wear closed toe shoes, you get to go into the animals area and pet them. This is a hands on animal sanctuary. It is spacious for all of the animals. The enclosures were clean, spacious and provided plenty of protection from the outside weather. During the tour, your tour guide will give you the history of the animals and a bit about what breed of animals they are. You will see, turkeys, pigs, cows, horses ( although we didn't go into the horse area) goats, sheep, long horn bulls. The staff sets out a large bucket of Alfalfa so you can feed the cows, sheep and bull. Every animal has a name and some call when they are called. It is so amazing. The staff is extremely friendly. They have a reception barn that has restrooms, some treats and drinks to purchase. They have an amazing large center table that has a ton of crafts for kids to do. Animal stickers, crayons, paper, child scissors, etc. They have a play area with blocks and small plastic animals to play with. The restrooms and play area inside the building are extremely clean. You can purchase merchandise as well, hats and t shirts, stuffed animals. What I most love about this place is the fee to tour the ranch is super reasonable. If you cannot afford to visit, you can visit for free if you need to. These animals thrive due to sponsors and tour fees so I hope no one takes advantage of the generosity of the free (if unable to afford) tour. Tours last about 1.5 hours. It is slow walking in light gravel. Stroller friendly although they do ask you to leave the strollers outside the enclosures to insure the animals don't steal any items form the strollers. The time is mostly spent inside of the animal enclosures visiting and petting the animals. They ask you to not bring food for obvious reasons. Water and drinks are available for purchase inside the welcome-check in barn. You are going to love this place. Its a pretty drive into Sonoma from anywhere you are coming from. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Extremely grateful to experience Charlie's Acres Tour w/ Wine picnic. It was great learning about the animals and their stories. Then to end it with delicious wine, snacks, and good conversation. I highly recommend checking this place out.
