If you want delicious fish and chicken wings, this is the place they have excellent food. The customer service is also excellent so if you want a grab and go for lunch you got it. I came here yesterday (10-6-2025) based on a TikTok review 🙄 I'mma stop coming to these restaurants based on TikTok reviews 😑 I haven't enjoyed one YET. **They said the customer service was great, and it was. The man taking my order was very pleasant. ** I ordered the catfish fillet lunch, cooked medium. I order my fish, like this, in other places, yet a few pieces of the fish came out rubbery and undercooked. The lettuce for the salad had NOT been washed thoroughly either. I was completely displeased with the food. I cannot recommend.

Food was delicious and service was amazing! They were so accommodating of my elderly mother. Seasonings are perfect, and it's not greasy! We'll be back, for sure. Only thing is no public restrooms, but of you take food to go. It's perfect.

One of the better fried fish options in LA. I like Charlie’s much better than Penguin Fish down the street and others East of it. They don’t skimp on the portions and all of our food was cooked perfectly. They have a large menu with lots of options. The Dinner and Special options are pretty much the same, both come with a salad, roll, and fries but the Special is larger in fish count. They have a large parking lot attached to the strip mall they’re located in so parking is easy. They’re to-go only and are very quick so you won’t have to wait long. We chose the Orange Roughy Special with was really delicious and a huge portion of food, and the Jumbo Shrimp, which were also great and much better than some other places we have been to recently. Everything was perfectly fried. Overall a good option if you’re in the mood for fish and chips. I would recommend and plan to be back in the future.

They have the best fried fish in WLA. I always get the 9 piece red snapper special that comes with fries, salad, hush puppies and a dinner roll. The pieces of fish are thick and meaty. The fish is fresh and this seasoning is delicious. I'm never disappointed.

I checked out Charlie's Fish N Chips. Got the Red Snapper and Shrimp combo, both deep fried. Came with Fries, a dinner roll and a salad. The Fish and Shrimp were hittin', the Fries weren't hot. Staff was cool and efficient. I would go here again 100.

Best fried shrimp and chips in LA! This is a quick order-and-go shop because I preferred eating at home rather than at the place. The fries were cooked perfectly, and the shrimp was well-seasoned.

Love this place! I've been eating fried fish all my life and with my extended family being from Mississippi and myself growing up fishing in the Mississippi river I have been raised with high standards for fish restaurants. This place delivers. The food is always fresh and tastes amazing. The decor isn't the greatest, so i'd recommend taking it to go, but if you want delicious fried fish I'd highly recommend.

Was in the neighborhood and decided on fried fish for lunch. Thank you, Yelp family, for steering us to this hole in the wall gem. We ordered the Red Snapper 9-piece special and 8 oysters to go. It did take a while for us to get our food, but we didn't mind because we knew they were making our food fresh. As soon as we got into the car, we sampled the oysters and fries. The oysters, although small was quite flavorful. The oysters weren't too ocean-y tasting, just a hint. Definitely fresh oysters. Also, you can tell the oil they were using to cook the food wasn't old. When we got home, the Red Snapper was still warm. They were good thick pieces of fish and the batter wasn't thick. You can definitely taste the fish. Tartar sauce was included with our meal, but we favored the malt vinegar which we had at home. The inside of the eatery was very clean. The tables and chairs are dated, but since we were taking our food to go, we didn't care. All in all, a positive experience. No frills spot, just a good ole fish fry. If we're in the neighborhood again, we'd definitely come back.

Very simple storefront next to a sketchy liquor store. Don't miss out. Amazing prices. Best fried shrimp in town. 10 piece with fries bread and salad for about $13. Cooked in cottonseed oil which is healthier. Every time your order is cooked fresh and served piping hot.

They have the weirdest chicken wings I have ever seen ! They looked like balls or hush puppies . The batter was good but did not look appetizing . Eye appeal is half the meal ... Fish was ok not the best but flavorful . The place really needs a make over ...

Charlie's is great . The fish is fried perfectly. They also have fried chicken too that is awesome. Large portions. Comes with tartar and hot sauce. I got the macaroni salad too which is as good. Overall. I would definitely cone back!

This place is not fancy, but the customer service and flavor of the food was right on. I ordered the catfish, red snapper, filet of sole and chicken wings. All delicious. The macaroni salad was basic, but the potato salad had big chunks of potato which was nice. It is a nice you buy we fry restaurant!

Be careful, they will try to short change you. Their product is good, but they will give you the wrong change from your purchase, and then try and give you a lesson in math, and accuse you of trying to cheat them. I've been going there for years through all the different owners and never had a problem until today. Guess I have to drive over to Collins fish market from here on.

The fish was alright nothing spectacular. The waiting area was clean but the vents and upper walls need cleaning.

Wooooow. Really good larger portion than the typical fries fish spots. Doesn't look like much but the fish is delicious. The fried fish does give Mel's Fish Sack a run but the hush puppies do not. Lol Very much a grab and go spot , there are tables and chairs to eat in but it's not cozy, however it's not meant to be. Service is good staff are friendly. Price is right.

The establishment was clean and the food was excellent. Generous portions, flavorful and plated with care. The staff was professional and knowledgeable. No gimmicks just good southern style seafood.

This food was so hot and fresh. The only thing is it seems like they need a better ceño latino system bc even with just a few minutes of sitting inside you walk out smelling like you've been in there all day. Metered street parking and would indeed go back

Fish on Fridays is just how we were raised. If I'm not frying myself, I'm heading to Charlie's! Fresh, economical, and delicious.

I like Charlie's. It's never too crowded, but they always have customers. I order a pound of sole and a pound of snapper each time. This feeds 4-5 people for $32 bucks. I wish they were closer to Baldwin Hills. Mel's and Collins on Adams don't taste as good and cost more.

Filet sole with the shrimp and fries!! Red snapper with the shrimp & fries!! Calling your order in and picking it up is the easiest way to deal with this places wait time. They fry it really hard and I just love that. Who cares about the ambiance as long as it doesn't smell in the fish place.

Just had the 10 med shrimp special. Everything was cooked fresh. Shrimp were crunchy and delicious. A real bargain as well. Not a fancy place, don't let that keep you away. Wish they carried a cocktail sauce really the only complaint!

This is strictly a take out business. They serve very tasty fish and/or chicken wings. Several kinds of fried fish are available. Fish is seasoned well.

Oh my gosh how have I never been here before now?! I tried a combo of catfish nuggets and some fried shrimp. Came with a lot of fries (yum!) a little green salad with dressing, a roll and a couple tasty hush puppies. So good and yes I will be back. It was to go so I can't comment about ambiance.

This place is actually called "Charlie's Fish & Chip" -- i.e., no "s" on the end of "Chip". Just for the record. --- This is a very small place, a sort of hybrid between a sit-down place and a fast-food place. There are a couple of tables inside at which to eat, but you order your food at a counter and pick it up at that counter to take to a table (unless you're getting it to go, of course). With few exceptions, I usually eat where I get my food, because food just loses its temperature on the ride home, and lukewarm food doesn't taste as good as hot food. (And with many kinds of food, putting it in the microwave just doesn't work, or can actually ruin the texture.) So, fortunately, I came by at around 3:30 and got one of the few tables. --- The great thing about this place is that you get a lot of fish for your money. Most entrees were around $19, which is normally a bit more than I like to pay, but there was so much food that I took half of it home and got a 2nd meal out of it the next day. A meal under $10, net, is a fine deal. --- The reason why I'm only giving them 4 stars is because of the drinks situation. They do not have the standard soda fountain machine that most restaurants have, but rather only offer cans of soda. (I don't remember whether there were bottles of anything offered, but if there were, they didn't have a flavor that I wanted.) The cans were refrigerated, but I don't believe they offer ice, and I'm not even sure whether they offer cups. I had brought along a 1-quart jug of ice water, and I wound up drinking all of that and then pouring the soda from a can over the remaining ice. Hopefully, they will decide to get a soda fountain one day, with ice and large cups, to make the beverage part of the meal be fully satisfying. But even without that, just the food part makes this place worth patronizing.

I was craving seafood particularly shrimp so I looked a fish place in the area, this spot pulled up. Service was cool and the fish amd shrimp was decent no big flavors endless you dipped it in tarter sauce to bring the batter taste out, but not that bad. The chicken wasn't too bad either, but the batter seemed burnt so I didn't taste but 1. I didn't fulfill my cravings friday but ill find a different spot soon!!

The fish had bones in it and overall it didn't taste fresh. I'm more than sure that I will not be going back to this restaurant.

If I can give this location, a negative star that will betheir review , they need a better Fish market in West LA Fish is always greasy and OLD never change the oil I asked for a salad and they gave me double fries. I don't understand how establishment that makes money doesn't have the correct sides that you are paying for I told them I did not want fries and they said that's all they had. I will never patronize this location again. SHRIMPS was HARD FISH WAS HARD OYSTERS WAS BURNT. VERY UNACCEPTABLE.

I don't like how you charged me for 2 potato salad and 2 Macaroni salad when I asked to sub the fries that never have any seasoning on them and the green salad. Two $19.00 dollar meals with tax ended up being 54.84 cents. because you charged me $4.00 for the additional side. When you wrote down sub and didn't say the price. This will be the last time I eat at this place. I'll take my business elsewhere.

I was in the mood for something fried and crispy and looked up Charlie's as it was only about 10min away even with rush hour traffic (yeah I really hopped on the 10 at 6pm because I wanted some fried fish baddd). I ordered the 9-piece whiting for pickup, it comes with a dinner roll, mini salad, fries, and two hush puppies. All for about $12/13! I was pretty hungry so added some coleslaw when I arrived for pickup so total was about $15/16. Cashier was friendly enough and I was the only one there when I arrived for pickup. Now the food - it was just okay to be honest. The fries had no seasoning and just seemed pretty low effort. The coleslaw was probably the worst I've ever had. Just wayy too creamy for coleslaw. Fish was pretty good but sometimes felt like I was eating more breading than fish at times. Hush puppies were fried a little too hard and again more fried batter than hush(?)/cornmeal inside. Nothing to say about the salad and roll pretty basic. Overall I satisfied my fried fish craving but can't really said I'd return here or can recommend it. Ah well the hunt for some bomb fried fish in LA continues.....

I usually call ahead for my order. It is always ready when I arrive. The customer service is the best. They are always friendly and upbeat.

Solid 3.5 star hole in the wall rounded up to 4. Says takeout only, although i see a few people eating in every time I stop by. The Whiting, Tilapia, and Shrimp are all really good. The chicken wings were just okay to me. Portion size is also a really good value.

Charlie's has been a neighborhood staple for probably 2 decades now. I typically bounce between here and penguins depending on how I am feeling. I tend to visit penguins more because it is closer but I never regret when I decide to order from Charlie's. The batter is amazing. I've had the catfish, shrimp, chicken, and oysters. My go-to is the catfish and shrimp. They've definitely become pricier over the years, however the fish does not disappoint. Meals come with French fries, salad, and two slices of bread. You can order coleslaw separately but their coleslaw is trash sadly. What I do love is their tarter sauce. I don't know why, but their tarter sauce is pure gold to me! The fish is always fresh and cooked to perfection!

I didn't plan on eating here today; was going to do to Ho Ho Kitchen and then realized that it was a tiny to-go place with one table that was occupied, so I popped over to Charlie's as a backup plan. It was just okay. The server was friendly enough, and the prices were reasonable, I thought. But the food was just okay. Nothing particularly special about it. The aesthetics of the place were very mismatched and greasy, as one might expect. The television was cutting in and out of cable which drove me crazy, it was honestly headache inducing. Just not really anything I'd write home about. I think I'll keep looking for my go-to Fish and Chips place.

Best fish & chips spot out there. Crunchy breading with decent portions. Can't say the same about some of the other overpriced and bland spots out there. Best thing to get is the $13 combo. Only wish the tartar sauce cups were bigger.
