"Venture out to Delco to get a taste of one of the region’s most historic burger institutions. While the 2.0 location on MacDade Boulevard might not have the same retro appeal as its previous address, Charlie’s is still turning out the same skinny patty, greasy-in-a-great-way burgers that they’ve been griddling since 1935." - Ernest Owens

Google
Absolutely loved Charlie’s Burgers. The patties were juicy, the buns were perfectly toasted, and everything tasted super fresh. The flavor was on point from the first bite to the last. Service was friendly and quick, and the vibe of the place made the whole experience even better. Easily one of the best burger spots(if not the best) I’ve been to in a while—definitely 5 stars.

Mari

Google
Always good. Nothing like it. When you want a Charlie's burger nothing else works! It's a Delco tradition. If you don't love a Charlies burger there's something wrong with you.!!

Orlando Azuara

Google
Sadly disappointing. Came because it was recommended as having some of the best burgers in the Delco area. Ordered triple cheeseburgers. All mushed up and the patties were completely fallen apart. The photo shows the burger without having taken a bite yet. Unfortunately, the burgers were quite tasteless and drenched in fat. I would ask for a refund if possible. Visited with high expectations, and those expectations were not met. On the other hand, the strawberry milkshake was good.

Google
The MOST amazing burgers! I could eat 5!!!!! Family friendly environment and a neighborhood staple for 50 years!!! Tim is doing a great job!!!!!

Alicia Jay

Google
Absolute classic. Smash-style burgers that are so good, you’ll be back soon enough. And the onion rings? Yeah, just go ahead and order two, one for now, one for the drive home. Staff is cool, place is spotless.

TstreeT Controversy

Google
Excellent little burgers for about 4$. Hard to describe but you'll LOVE them!

Armando Caraballo Jr.

Google
I have been to Charlies hundreds of time. I never get a chance to take pics of the burgers because they always get eaten before I get a chance. I always get a Tim's special and then switch it up with another double with different toppings. One of the most consistent burger places I've ever eaten at. Also, love the milkshakes!!

Diane Hubert

Google
The best hamburger joint in the world !!!!!!! I’ve lived in Georgia and now south Florida. I come back to Philly several times a year and I stop in at Charlie’s several times during my visit. I LOVE CHARLIES !!!!

Milton R.

Yelp
Best cheeseburgers and french fries in the Delco area. its small place but the friendly staff make the difference

Hunter K.

Yelp
Never fail to impress always going dining in and getting a quick burger and shake love that they have fries at the "newer" location but the service is also great and the food is amazing!

Hannah H.

Yelp
I am not sure if the relocation to their current place made some type of impact on the quality of the burgers, but Charlie's burgers don't seem to hit the same as they used to. We ordered their Cheeseburgers, with just onions and mayo, to go, before leaving town - the buns were super dried out and not good; the patty itself was the typical thinness, but it had no seasoning or flavor to it; it also seemed to have been overcooked. There's seating available inside, but most seem to get their orders to go. There can be a back-up on orders due to competing with call-aheads. Parking available in the shared strip plaza lot. +dried out buns +inconsistent burger taste +parking in shared strip plaza lot

Tamara F.

Yelp
Was in the area and was in the mood for burgers so we stumbled upon this place and it was cute inside with kind vintage feel. The staff was nice and our food came out quickly! The food was cheap and small but it was tasty and satisfying!

Alex O.

Yelp
I've come here at least twice a year for the past 7 years and I am so so disappointed with my last meal. There was a puddle of grease and my burger bun was drenched in grease. They always made it so nicely and the burgers looked perfect but it's gone downhill significantly since they moved locations. Now I get to deal stomach issues today. What a disappointment.

Alice P.

Yelp
Yummy! Burgers melt in your mouth. Fresh homemade burgers that aren't to large. I'll definitely be back here!

Shaun T.

Yelp
Growing up outside of Delco I simply lack the nostalgic love for Charlie's. Despite no generational history I love this place. Yes, it's not the "old" place....just a bright, clean, lively newer spot a couple miles away. Took 15 yo following night soccer game vs Ridley seconds from the HS. Charlie's specials, a single cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and fried onions. Perfection. Bun sat on grill top for a crunch. Milkshake made on the spot, we watched. Fries dropped for our order...piping hot and salty.

Meridith E.

Yelp
I really enjoy Charlie's hamburgers. Greasy and good, if that's what you are in the mood for! The menu is short, but they do their few items well.

Vincent M.

Yelp
Neat and simple little place to grab a few, classic burgers. They've got tasty burgers that I think are griddle-smashed. Thin with that little crispy exterior. There are a few toppings, but I went with the Charlie's Special (burger with cheese, fried onions, tomato, and pickles) a Peg Special (double burger with cheese, fried onions, and bacon), my wife got a hot dog (they split it flat and serve on a burger bun) and we split a small order of fries and an order of onion rings (whole onion rings that are batter fried.) Order was quick and hit the spot. Basic stuff that was well executed. It's not reinventing the wheel, but if you want a good, tasty burger and are in the area, I definitely recommend it.

Chris D.

Yelp
Double cheeseburger / small fries / black & white milkshake. The thin meat slices taste fresh but overall there very tiny and absolut not special.. about $15 for everything, ain't worse it. Milkshake to liquid. Would I come back , NO

Glen F.

Yelp
Glad I didn't listen to the few bad reviews. Got there around 11:40 am. Ordered the Bunny and Charlie special and a small fry. No milkshake. The burger is thin and served in a white bread type of bun. Juicy and flavorful. Fries were good as well. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside. Shame I never made it to the old location which I think had that old school charm but life moves forward for some. I would come back for the Peg special. Then I'd come back another time for a milkshake perhaps. If you love America and call yourself an American, you need to come here.

Steve S.

Yelp
This hurts. I hate to do this. I loved Charlie's. They have been an institution. But their fastball is gone. The burger I got tonight was decent. But the same beef flavor of the past isn't there anymore. It was just average. I don't know exactly what changed besides the location. I've been to this new location. It was last year and it was still quite good. But this burger wasn't the same as that. Eating this burger was the equivalent to watching Steve Carlton pitch in 1986. You knew they were great once. But you know it's not the same.

John F.

Yelp
Great food. Good people. Fast, friendly service. Fresh burgers, crisp fries. Get there asap!

William L.

Yelp
They moved but they still make the greatest hamburgers and milkshakes they did when I was a youth going with my parents I'm now 66 and return many times throughout the year It's top shelf everything

Petros K.

Yelp
Excellent burgers at a fair price. I always get the triple with cheese and fried onions and the patties are the perfect size. Service is always welcoming and efficient and the wait is average considering they make everything to order. Nothing special inside but they do have some seats available if you dine in. Been here several times in the last year and it's very consistent and great every time.

Nando F.

Yelp
Is there a better place where you can get a greasy cheeseburger, or two while washing it down with a milkshake? You guessed correctly my yelp family. The iconic Charlie's Hamburgers is that very gem that serves you that taste of Americana. Short and sweet which makes this a completed review my friends. Now get in there, and enjoy. If you are looking for those fancy burgers on an artisan bun, with an aioli spread. This is NOT your burger joint.

Q M.

Yelp
This is my delco spot for burgers. The burgers are simple and hit the spot if you are craving a burger. My husband thinks they taste like white castle because of the plentiful presence of onion. Listen, well sign me up. I always get raw onion, pickles, ketchup and mustard and cheese. Fries are a crispy must. Oh and some hometown brotherly delco service.

John L.

Yelp
Was so happy to see them in their new digs and they added fries! The new location was a Subway and a Capriotti's before, but there is no doubt these guys will be fine here. The order line was out the door when I left around noon. They definitely had more hands on deck preparing and serving so that helped moved the line. I'm wondering if there will be enough space here! Burger wise I had my two specials and tried the fries. The burgers were no different than the last location and the fries were a nice addition to the menu and a nice portion size. As usual a homerun for me.

John M.

Yelp
I personally like that fried greasy red meat flavor. It's a combination of growing up in the 60's memories with a DELCO flair . I'm not a big guy but when I'm craving Charlie's .. it's 3cheese burgers loaded and a B&W milkshake.

Linda L.

Yelp
When you first try a burger from Charlie's, it does not look like much. The patties are super thin, it looks kind of smashed and there will be times when they put your burgers in the empty burger bun bags as your to-go bag. It's definitely not the prettiest but they're actually pretty tasty and flavorful. I wouldn't suggest adding tomato to a burger as it has a weird aftertaste in my opinion. The fries are alright, nothing to rave about. There always seems to be a long line/wait even when you go when they first open. You can't call ahead to place your order unless you are going to order 30+ burgers. If you want something different other than the fast-food chains, I would say give it a try. 3.5/4.

Stephen T.

Yelp
I'm a Charlie's Originals patron. And while I loved them, the new one just doesn't do it for me. It's lost something. Maybe it's simplicity, maybe it's style. But definitely it's quality. I hope they find their way back.

Josh S.

Yelp
I've been to Charlie's a lot over the years...it started in their old location. I may be on my own here but I like the no location better. The food has always been good; check that, I'm not a big fan of the hot dogs, not that they're bad, simply because they put them on a hamburger roll (just not my thing). If you haven't been here don't be shocked, the patties are super-thin but they're so good. I recommend going with a double and you'll still have room leftover for their awesome fries!

J P.

Yelp
The most delicious burger you'll have. You simply must go! A delco institution that moved from its spot near the Frontier to over across from planet fitness on MacDade in Folsom. You can be on the treadmill at PF and try to resist the urge to go there afterwards IF YOU CAN.

Andy M.

Yelp
Good basic tastes local burgers. Go get them and eat them up now! Can't go wrong with Charlie's. Good eats that never disappoints. Tastey and delicious. Highly recommend for a good basic meal.

EARLENE D.

Yelp
The fries were cold burgers are so greasy you could fry chicken in it I took 2 bites and got sick too my stomach never again they smell real good though. And there was no condiments that I ask for.

Mr L.

Yelp
First of I came today exited for a milkshake and I see none of them with masks that's the first red flag then 2nd red flag the person that was making my milkshake a young lady she kept sneezing and blowing her nose and didn't onceWash her filthy hands!! She just continued to make the milkshakes I kept seeing her rub her nose touching the machine and cup putting her germs everywhere I was disgusted I wanted to cancel my order and get out of there quick. I will never return here again or recommend it for anyone.

Robert P.

Yelp
New location. The burger was fine. It just doesn't feel the same. It's all nostalgia for me at this point. Service was very slow. I don't think it was a good value and they have fries??? Charlie's has fries. That might be the strangest combination of all time.

Lynn D.

Yelp
Been going there for over 50 years and it is absolutely worth it! And don't forget the black and white milkshake‼

Chip C.

Yelp
Wanted a nice burger and not from a chain. Asked Yelp....saw Charlie's. Charlie's did not disappoint. A solid 4-star. Everyone there very friendly. Ordered double cheeseburger, loaded, with fries. Food was fast, hot & delicious. If I'm ever back in the area, I'm coming back to Charlie's.

Valerie S.

Yelp
Found out yesterday that Charlie's is my stepdad-in-law's favorite place when the hubby stopped by to pick him up some burgers since we were down the street curtain shopping. Funny the things you learn after almost 26 years of marriage. I guess since we don't really go to Folcroft, it just never came up. So, was the burger the best I ever had? Nah. But am I going to bash this Folcroft icon that everyone so obviously loves? Nah. I will save that for Jake and Leona's in Ephrata because that was seriously some of the worst food we've ever paid for. Anyway. These burgers were not bad. My only complaints were that the raw onion was pretty bitter and they don't have fries there. I was really in the mood for some fries. I thought the prices were fine as well. Sure, I'd stop in again if I'm in the area.

Hungry Couple B.

Yelp
I had high expectations for this place and I am more disappointed in myself for having high expectations. I was thoroughly disappointed with almost everything served here. The workers were not professional, the fries are God awful, the shredded onions were poor and the burger was average. Go to Zacs hamburgers right down the road and get better all around food.

Cindy M.

Yelp
This place must be nostalgic for the locals because I don't get it. I passed this place a ton of times so I decided to try it I got a regular burger with ketchup and onions and I couldn't taste or see the onions. The burger was small like a small mcdonalds burger. Not worth the $3 I also ordered a Charlie special for hubby but since my hamburger didn't make a dent in my belly I also ate it. Disappointing. For $7 worth of burgers I was hoping to be full. Nope. No sides items such as fires and they only take cash Plenty of parking Cashier was nice. Grill person did not have a hair net or hat and the fan was blowing above her head. No one wore gloves. Ewww The place was packed and plenty of parking It's just not for me. I won't be back.

Frank F.

Yelp
So I went to Charlie's tonight for take out. My first complaint is no one answered the phone when I called TWICE. Figuring they were busy I drove to place an order. One person was in line, the place otherwise empty SO they were not that busy not to pickup the phone. I placed an order asking for a hot sausage asking how big was the roll..the girl (very polite) told me it was a sausage patty on a hamburger bun. WHAT? Who the hell sells sausage patty's at almost $3.00. Jim Dean? I changed my order to two hot dogs with kraut and onion rings all to go. The dogs were on a hamburger bun as well with maybe a teaspoon of sauerkraut. The onion rings GREASY. This certainly was not was Charlie's from back in the day nor the one behind the Frontier Saloon. New owners? or a bad cook. No matter I will never go back or recommend.

Yelp
When Colleen B writes a 5 star review - then updates it with ANOTHER 5 star review...you know the place is legit. After a rollercoaster of emotions during Colleen's funeral, we found out that this was the ONE place she always stopped at when she was in town. Just a short distance from her childhood home, apparently this was the place with the "best burgers in the world." All of my teammates loaded up into an SUV, drove over and as we pulled up it began pouring. Not a light drizzle...POURING. We considered waiting it out, but decided to run in. Soaked, pretty full from the massive lunch we just had, and with our emotional tank on empty we got 2 burgers to share - and a black & white shake. Burgers here are real deal. They aren't stacked with foie gras, arugula or truffled mushrooms. They are the traditional burger. The kind that you can't really get anymore. They are flavorful and meat patty sits in a cloud of a bun. Fluffy and delicious. The shake was insanely good. It's a monster of a serving, so you COULD share it, but why would you want to? If you come here hungry, a burger (maybe 2) and a shake will last you through the next day. Thanks Charlie's. Not only for the delicious grub, for allowing us a place to have a really nice moment to remember our friend. I can see why she loved you so much.

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Came here with my daughter and son in law for an excellent burger. The burgers really are fantastic! They are small so I got a double. That was enough to satisfy me. I don't think a single would be enough for most adults. It would be good for a kid though. They also have a few flavors of milkshakes if you so desire. You can get some fixings for your burger just don't ask for French fries because they don't have any! You can get a bag of chips though. This truly is a burger place. They don't make other sandwiches but if you are craving a great burger, go to Charlies!

Hannah L.

Yelp
Still the best classic burger place! Cannot beat the price! Milkshakes are bomb! Love Charlie's hamburgers! Onion rings and fries are a great addition! Highly recommend!

Jim D.

Yelp
Let's me start by saying that they mixed my milkshake in the paper cup. Seriously...amateur hour at this place. They also filled the cup only 3/4 of the way. Charlie's used to have some of the best shakes. This was one of the worst shakes that I've ever had. The fries are a new thing since they moved to the new location. The fries were soggy and had a bad taste. The burgers were pretty close to what I remembered. This was close to getting a 1 Star. The staff were polite but moved at turtle speeds. Very disappointed.

Joel R.

Yelp
I like Charlie's the food is good. It comes out fast. It's consistent it's just good.

Giles C.

Yelp
Been eating them for year small in sizes I usually get double meat and need to get two of them the milk shakes are excellent had dipped not a machine.

Hope S.

Yelp
Food never showed up. Charlie's can't help us at all Called store. Has no records of orders they fill

Jack M.

Yelp
If you're into an overpriced microburger, check out Charlies. For $3.10, you get a McDonald's size burger for only a slight improvement on the burger. The bun is all white bread, slightly chalky, and devoid of all flavor. The meat is OK. It's got a nice char. But its nearly as thin as the pickles that top it. The cheese is a standard American slice. It's enjoyable, but as with all the condiments, they fight harder for mouthfeel and flavor than the meat patty. This place is grossly overrated. I was not satisfied. What a sad little burger.

morgan b.

Yelp
If I could eat a Charlie's hamburger every day of my life, I would. I love this place so much

L L.

Yelp
* * * NOW TAKING CREDIT CARDS!!!! * * * * * * NOW TAKING CREDIT CARDS!!!! * * * * * * NOW TAKING CREDIT CARDS!!!! * * * First experience at Charlies. Burgers were just as tasty as everyone claims! As others have pointed out, they are small. We read tips about getting double burgers, and we did. It was $20 for three doubles and a shake. The shake, made with Bassetts ice cream, was thick and delish! We each had 1 1/2 doubles for lunch, and craved them so much, we went back for a 4:30pm dinner. Had 2 each that time... still not enough. Others recommend 3 or more burgers, which is probably what you need, without fries. It does add up, though. Cheese is technically a mixture of Velveeta and American (I asked). We were lucky to hit them with no lines both times. Small, simple, old school place. It's neat to watch them cook, and look at all the pics on the wall.

L D.

Yelp
Charlie's never disappoints. Been going there since the 1960's. This version doesn't disappoint. The staff is friendly and the shakes are the bomb. Keep it going as Charlie and Bunny would be proud.

Samantha C.

Yelp
Even in the new location it has the same great charm and yummy food! The staff was helpful and working hard as they seemed busy. Food was still great.

Monica H.

Yelp
It's definitely no Shake Shack. A small local joint in the area. I've been told to give it a try, this place has been in the area forever. Decided to stop in. Just like everyone said, it's a small place. Cash only, which i don't have an issue with. And yes, the burgers are small. Even with it being a double cheeseburger it was small. Very fresh. Love the fact that the bun is seedless because I have allergies. It's better than McDonald, the cheese is gooey.... LOVE. The only downfall? They don't use gloves and literally pickup your bun and pickles with their bare hand which kinda bothered me. A little unsanitary. But I was told by my friends, that grew up in this area, that it's the old school way of cooking and i just have to get use to it... LOL.. Gotta love good friends! We'll be back because after we placed our order, we saw the fried onions as an option but didn't want to be a pest.. Next time =)

Bob H.

Yelp
I'm not from delco but I've heard about Charlie's for a long time. I've always went to Zac's when out that area. Yesterday I just happened to drive by and stopped. I arrived around 11:15 and they open at 11:00. It was packed! I ordered 2 singles and a hot dog. First off the bun is toasted to perfection! It has a nice crisp on the ends. The burger itself is good. Fresh and not frozen, the cheese was melted perfect as well. While it is a thin burger it's still quite tasty. They are similar to a McDonald's burger but much better. Keep in mind they are much more money too, roughly $3.00 each. I went with everything it was cheese, onion, ketchup and pickles. Very good! My biggest complaint would be the hot dog. First off it wasn't all beef and they put it on a hamburger bun. Come on, if you serve a hot dog then put it on the proper roll. If I'm in the area again I would stop. It was a good quality burger.

Joe S.

Yelp
The menu looks pretty basic but I could tell from the pictures online that they were good quality burgers, that's the main thing. The fries were crispy but a bit dry so make sure you get some condiments.

Mona S.

Yelp
I haven't eaten here on over 40 years, and I was not disappointed. The only thing is you can eat 3 single burgers or if you are real hungry 2 doubles. French fries were hot like they are suppose to be. I got the bunny special, and it is what I remembered it to be. I like when the bun is slightly toasted, delicious.

J Clifford W.

Yelp
I haven't been back to Philadelphia in a couple years but my first stop is always Charlie's hamburger. First time at the new location and although everything looks different the burgers are exactly the same. Awesome, not to mention a delicious black and white milkshake. It's so gratifying that for over 40 years something has been so awesome
