How to Spend a Big Fat Weekend in Prince Edward Island in Canada | Bon Appétit

"For the most part, Charlottetown is a fairly quiet and quaint town. That is, until you go to the Saturdayfarmers market. The indoor hall is absolutely packed by 9 a.m. and full of people who all seem to know each other. Highlights included fresh strawberries from Nova Scotia, beef samosas, mini cinnamon-sugar donuts, and freshly baked onion-y focaccia. Oh, and there was also a super cute baby goat. From the moment you drive up (good luck finding parking), you can tell that this is where all the locals are on Saturday morning." - ByRachel Karten

Visiting from Toronto. Such a fabulous market. Great variety. Such delicious foods. We tried the Afghan Mantou, the Indian samosas and the Labanese spinach cheese pastry. We also got ginger molasses cookies and butter tarts. So delicious and fresh. Everyone is so friendly! Vendors and patrons included. I enjoyed it so much! Wish I took more pictures but I got carried away with eating food right away! haha

We loved our experience here at the farmers market, on a Saturday. It was so eclectic with a little bit of everything from around the island, at surprisingly affordable prices. We were greeted by wonderful and talented musicians playing cuban music upon arrival and upon entering were entranced by the myriad smells and sights. We enjoyed getting samosas, coffee, baked goods, artisanal soaps, and wood carvings. We would come back any time we could.

A neat little market, though not exactly what I expected from a "farmers' market" in Charlottetown. Be aware that it's more of a general market — not everything is local, and it leans more toward a mix of global cuisine and artisan goods. If you're looking specifically for Maritime staples like dulse or traditional fare, you may leave a bit disappointed. Still, it's lively and diverse, and worth a visit if you're in the area and open to something a bit different.

For some reason I thought it would be bigger. There were some good vegan food stands, sandwiches, smoothies and a beautiful vegan cheese stand. Interesting homemade crafts and baking. I had breakfast there (black bean samosa and a smoothie). Lots of parking but it was busy even at 9am.

Way too expensive for everything. I bought a can of beer but it was expired for over one month. Most snacks and products are over priced. If you like the atmosphere it’s a great place for relaxing.

A bit crowded and limited, would be better outside. Friendly people, good choice of food, just crowded and shame it's not closer to the city. The effort to get there was not worth it. Espresso drinks at the sole Cafe were really terrible.

Spent a few hours at the market. Lovely stands and great food choices.

Beautiful farmer's market with a large variety of fresh local produce (some are organic) and other local artisans/crafts. There is also several food kiosks to order meals if you're hungry. It can get very crowded and busy so if you're not good with crowds, go early at the opening. There is a very large parking lot, I was able to park my car and small RV. It was a little tricks but we made it :). Dogs are not allowed inside but There are some stands outside and picnic tables where dogs are welcome.

Yelp
Just outside the port area you'll find a small farmers market with local artisans and good businesses. I would say this market leaves heavier on the arts and crafts side than food during our particular Sunday visit. I don't know if there tends to be more food on other days? We saw a few prepared food options and one farmer with produce. I was joking to see a more produce and food maker heavy market. They offer such a great glimpse into the local scene and culture. This market has a mustard maker, knitter, dried flower products and some sweet girls playing violin at the entrance. You can't beat the location adjacent to the food hall, port, and floating restaurants along the boardwalk.

Yelp
This Farmers Market is a great spot to stop for local fruits & vegetables, handmade gifts and especially food! There are lots of great food vendors, both inside and outside, as well as a small coffee stall that sells PEI roasted beans and a local spirits booth. As I was on my way out of town and had just eaten, I mostly browsed, though I did get a great bag of roving of different colours. That booth also sold yarn and needle felting kits. If you're around Charlottetown on a Saturday, make your way to the market! Don't let the crowd scare you off. Tip: Park across the street at the university parking lots.

Yelp
Cute small farmer's market located a little outside the downtown core, almost at the outskirts of the city. Open only on Saturdays, rain or shine, the mostly indoors market, with some food vendors outside when weather permits, offers a wide array of food products to be tasted. From local farms' produce (vegetables, fruits, cheese, sausages) to handmade delicacies (pastries, samosas, pierogies) and even carnival food (donuts fried on the spot, fresh popcorn), there is a food stand that caters to everyone's needs. There are also artists' stands, where you can buy watercolors of the bucolic PEI landscapes or craft gin (yes!). Prices are more than reasonable: for example, I got 6 freshly shucked oysters for $6 (mignonnette included) and they were as fresh as you can expect them. Lineups aren't long, even if the market is busy from opening to closing hours (9-2pm every Saturday). To be noted: this market is not the one downtown that's only open during the summer, and to be honest, it's the more local want--when traveling, remember to do like the locals ;) Be warned: cash only. But duh, it's a farmers' market!

Yelp
Awesome little farmers market with a nice variety of food options, local crafts and meat and veg. I make it a point to stop here every year when I visit pei! My favourite snacks are the Out of Africa samosas, mini donuts and Grandma Jaworski's pirogies!

Yelp
This was a fantastic place to stop. We were pleasantly surprised with lunch options at the premade food stations. I had an amazing latte at the Island Roasters station too.
