The Best Restaurants and Bars in The Woodlands | Eater Houston

"Wanalee and Adam Gorelick opened this stylish, upscale Thai restaurant during the height of the COVID pandemic in 2020, and they’ve never looked back. Charm Thai has since received rave reviews for its accessible, Instragrammable Thai dishes, and its lavender-hued, flower-shaped Royal Thai dumplings made with pea flower, shallots, ground peanuts, and sweet pickled radish. Diners can also expect light and citrusy minced chicken larb, crispy Thai chicken wings, a variety of curries, and a standout chicken pad see-ew. Spice levels on many dishes are adjustable but keep in mind that even medium can be intense for some. An order of mango sticky rice or fried banana topped with caramel and sesame seeds can help quell the heat." - Laura L. Green

Google
Charm Thai Bistro absolutely lived up to its name pure charm from start to finish. The Tom Yum soup came out piping hot in a traditional pot, rich in flavor with just the right amount of spice and tang. The vegetables were fresh, vibrant, and perfectly cooked, paired beautifully with the jasmine rice and crispy wonton. Everything tasted authentic and full of depth. Service was fast, friendly, and on point. If you’re craving real Thai comfort food in a clean, inviting setting, this place delivers.

We had dinner with a group of seven. The restaurant was not crowded, and it has a beautiful atmosphere. The food was delicious—we ordered Kua Gai, Pad Thai, Crab Fried Rice, Pineapple Fried Rice, Spicy Basil Fried Rice, a catfish dish, and Thai tea. Portions were generous, with one dish easily enough for two people. The only downside was customer service. The server was a bit rude at first, but her attitude improved later.

Google
Did takeout on Uber. Photos looked nothing like dine in. Pad Thai had almost zero sauce. All I taste is pepper. Almost no peanuts. Terrible and if I was there in person I would’ve asked for a refund. They had the nerve to charge $25 before all the delivery charges and tip. $45 for the most mediocre Pad Thai I’ve ever ate. If you’re getting take out, don’t let this place deceive you.

Google
Drinks were good and quality for the price. The food was DELICIOUS! The server was personable and checked in on us. Very polite and friendly. The cook came and also checked on us. It was close to closing time and we did not feel rushed or pressured. We were treated with the same service and and quality as if we were the first customer of the day. Clean, easy location. Reasonably priced.

Google
I had been eating dine in and take out at Charm Thai Bistro for few years never wrote the review before. I'm Thai, of course I love Thai food and I approve of the taste. It is authentic. The restaurant is very nice and clean. The service is great and the price is reasonable. When you order you can request your spice level and real Thai taste. I recommend this place!

Google
Food is delicious and fresh at a great price and our server Mamika was very attentive and gave excellent service. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean and well kept too. Zero complaints, 5 stars all around, we will definitely be back!

Google
This place is not handicap friendly and is extremely rude. Tried to take my handicap mom out for a nice lunch and waitress was very disrespectful. We got there today at 4pm when they had just opened, she told us to seat ourselves. We sat and had planned on moving my moms walker once my mom was fully seated, but even if we had left it where it was, it was not in anyone’s way. There was tons of walkway behind it and there were no other customers there. When the waitress came to the table she pushed my mother’s walker and scolded her, saying that we cannot have this IN here. I stood up and asked her should we leave then and she said yes. My mother said please be patient with me to her, as she had not finished getting in the booth all the way to tuck the walker under the table yet. I guess she did not like that bc when she went to the back we could hear her screaming about us. Decided to make her wish come true and leave. Not the first time, they’ve been rude here. Tried to order takeout once and was told no modifications bc they were too busy. Will never go back again. That’s fine there are many other restaurants to spend money at.

Google
I went here for lunch with my mother and it was a very pleasant experience! The waitress was so friendly and attentive. I didn’t catch her name, but we enjoyed her very much!! I ordered the L.4 (Chicken with Peanut Sauce) with a spice level of 2, and oh my gosh, so good!! The spice didn’t kill me either, normally it’s a bit too spicy for me but it just left a tingle in my lips 💖 Will return here again, very reasonably priced!! Thai tea and spring rolls were also very tasty.

Yelp
Fantastic service and the food was superb! The Pad Thai was phenomenal as were the spring rolls and also the cocktails. I'll definitely be eating here the next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
Thai iced tea was great. Thai iced coffee reminded me of viet coffee. Strong and sweetened with condensed milk. Red, massaman and panang curry Noodles were smooth. Great flavor. Satay pork and chicken - amazing Wonton chicken and crab cream cheese Roti curry - eh. Watered down curry and not flaky roti. Papaya salad with crab - got mild and it was spicy! Fried banana was a tad too coated or not enough banana in the middle. Thai tea creme Brulee - very interesting play on creme Brulee Mango sticky rice - can't go wrong with this dish Thai beef jerky - surprisingly very good

Yelp
This place was pretty good. My son and I were looking for a thai place close to him and this is where we ended up. We got the crab puffs and chicken wontons to start with. They were ok. My son and I both ordered curry and the curry was good. We both enjoyed it. What I loved about it was the dishes that they served them in. They were so pretty and elegant looking. My son's girlfriend ordered a veggie stir fry and hers was really good too! We all got Thai iced tea and loved that as well. Service was good and friendly. Food came out fast.

Hubert V.

Yelp
Had held off going to Charm due to the mixed reviews. Not sure what the deal is with the numerous complaints of poor/rude service, but we experienced nothing of the sort. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and efficient. Food was very good, though on the milder side for us. We realized after the food arrived that they never asked us what level of spice we wanted - which would have been "thai medium". Anyways, some chili oil solved the problem. Not only was the food tasty, but the quality was good as well. Cannot wait to have the leftovers! Will certainly be back for mo!

Yelp
One of the best Thai places in the area! I've been here plenty of times and can confidently say this restaurant is nothing short of amazing. My love for it all started with a DoorDash order - the food was so good, I just had to track down the actual restaurant! The. Food. Always. SLAPS. All of the items I've ordered are flavor-packed and memorable. My absolute favorites that I order every visit? The Green Curry and Tom Yum Soup. Some close runner ups have to be the Chicken satay, Basil Beef, Pad Kee Mao, and Mango Sticky Rice. Part of what elevates the dining experience is the option to customize your dish. There are a whopping 10 different proteins options, ranging from vegan options to scallops, there's surely something here for everyone. As typical of any Thai restaurant, I'd advise to be cautious of the spice-levels. I prefer my food SPICY and find that the spicy level (3 out of 4) is perfect. The service here is as impeccable as the food. The staff genuinely care about their customers, and it shows. I mentioned that I had a long day at work and the kindness they showed made a lasting impact. Every single server is attentive and friendly. Not to mention, the food comes out quickly and has always been consistent. The staff runs the restaurant like a well-oiled machine - truly seamless. To top it all off, the ambiance is warm, cozy and inviting. The restaurant is in a prime location. During the day, the windows allow for a bright, well-lit interior. And the restaurant has a certain charm to it (hence the name) - making it feel homey, like you should wind down and stay a while. This place continues to make a lasting impact on me. I'm always looking for an excuse to stop by or bring my friends/family. If you're craving Thai food in the area, you definitely need to check it out.

Yelp
Delicious!!! Every time I'm in Houston with my Houston team, We come here. I love the food! This trip I had the Thai stir fry! OMG so yummy. I got the lunch portion and wish I got the regular portion. So good. I also had the spring rolls. Very delicious, well seasoned and they taste even better in the dipping sauce provided. The place at lunch is usually super packed. Highly HIGHLY recommend!

Yelp
Horrible service & RACIST. Stay far away if you are black woman trying to dine alone. I was just told by a gentleman to basically get up and move after one gentleman told me to go and sit anywhere. Tai then came to my table and told me I need to get up that I was a table for 6. Which I was not I was a 2 top next to 4 top table. There were many other tables in the restaurant to place large parties. Tay just wanted to be rude, racist and very nasty. Daniel who was supposedly the "manager" did nothing to try to rectify the situation. I have eaten at this establishment before many time. Now I will make it a point to let others knows the racism I just experienced Also when I mentioned it do Daniel he acted as if he didn't care. The picture below shows the amount of tables that were available for LARGE PARTIES
google avatar

Dena A.

Yelp
I order pad see ew it was kinda dry and had regular broccoli with a tiny amount of Chinaes greens. It didn't taste bad but it just wasn't right. The Thai coffee was great!

Roger C.

Yelp
Great food. A slight fusion ... without would've been better. Setting is loud especially during lunch. Service needs attention to detail.
google avatar

Hongsuk S.

Yelp
Quick update after several orders from Charm: Pad Thai, Tom Yum, and Tom Kha all consistently amazing. Will stick with these. Pad See Ew with Pork First off, the pork was dry. Second, the flavor of the pad see ew was not what I was used to and not something I enjoyed. I couldn't finish this. Pad Khe Mao with Chicken First off, chicken was dry and not cut against the grain. Second, the sauce was a bit too sweet and the flavor was not what I used to. Better than the pad see ew but far inferior to the pad thai. If I just consider the pad thai, tom yum, and tom kha, rating is a 5*.

Yelp
This was the most terrible experience I've ever had in my life. It does not deserve any stars, because the service was horrible. And I will never go back!! Looks like the people who work there do not want to work. First, there was no one to greet us when we arrived. When we were finally seated, an Asian lady approached and asked what we wanted to drink. I inquired about the available juices, and she looked at me and said they are in the menu. I asked again, and she repeated that it was in the menu and told me to look there. Later, she brought our drinks and just placed all three at the end of the table without a word. Later, a man came to take our order but didn't bother to explain anything, even when we had questions about the different spice levels. When the food arrived, the same Asian lady announced the name of the soup and placed it in front of me. I told her it wasn't mine but hers, and she responded, "You can give it to her," then walked away. The rest of the food arrived cold. I asked for an extra plate, and she responded with confusion. I had to repeat myself three times before my husband finally said, "Can I have an extra plate?" She then brought it and threw it in front of me. When the food finally arrived, no one came to check if everything was okay. After about 15-20 minutes, a the guy came to ask how everything was. Even the sprite tasted bad. it had no bubbles and looked like it had been watered down. My husband had to request the check, and we had to wait a long time for them to take the cc to charge. This was the worst service I have ever experienced--absolutely horrible!!!

Elyse M.

Yelp
This place is yummy! The staff was knowledgeable. I'm not a fan of the Upchurch for making it vegan and at least they had vegan options. The food was good. The vibe was cool. It's a good option in the area for vegan food!
google avatar

Thomas A.

Yelp
The food was great, very tasty, serving size is adequate. Service is good and quick. Service crew is very friendly and attentive. Just need to be careful when they asked you about the degree if spicyness, medium spice level is already very spicy to regular people but the food is really good.
google avatar

Diem A.

Yelp
This is a Thai staple by my office. The service Is friendly but the food took a long time to get. The ambiance is quaint and great for a lunch. The pad kee mao had great flavor but the noodles were a bit al dente for my taste. Could have been softer. Plenty of free parking.
google avatar

Bridgette G.

Yelp
I passed this place for so long, not trusting new Thai restaurants even though it's my favorite type of food. I was taken a back by the coconut curry soup I had, I went with the safe option pad thai and honestly was satisfied with flavor and the amount of protein I got in the dish. The servers were attentive and the atmosphere was clean but still so colorful from the dishes to the decor. I'll be showing all my friends this place
google avatar

Susan P.

Yelp
I love pork belly. If you read any of my reviews, you will see pork belly over and over again. If it's on the menu, I'm going to have it. So it was for that reason I was excited to see my favorite protein and as an optional topping for pad see ewe. Crispy pork belly, costs extra but hey, it's crispy pork belly. Except it wasn't. Wasn't crispy. Wasn't butchered well. Instead I got a huge piece of decidedly uncrispy, cold 100% fat. There were other remnants in the pad see ewe of pork belly but without sear, definitely not crispy. When I expressed my concern to the server, I was rewarded with a blank stare and not an offer to take it back and recook, replace the protein or adjust the bill. No attempt to right the situation. I'm hoping this was an off day but I am in no hurry to return.

Yelp
About a week ago I invited grams for a second visit here and took along my hubby and son for lunch. Grams and I ordered the same items we had the last time, catfish sauted with veggies, chicken friend rice, noodles and added the chicken yellow curry, while hubby and son ordered the crab fried rice. I honestly love the crab fried rice. It was delicious and they didn't even skimp the crabs. It had a hefty amount. They also enjoyed the spicy sauteed catfish We shall visit again, perhaps dinner next time.

Yelp
Sooo good!! Have been looking for good Thai food in Houston and I love Charm!! Service was great and food was better than anywhere else I've been so far. A must try if you're in the mood for Thai!! The curry and pad Thai were delicious!!
google avatar

Meagen M.

Yelp
This place is still one of my favorites! Customer service is always amazing! Food is always made fresh to order! I'm still in love with the ambiance of this restaurant since day one! Very relaxed! Very clean! It's also good for groups! Don't forget lunch time they have great specials! A beautiful wine bar! The art is gorgeous along the wall. It tells a story! But the food and the flavors are just everything! This restaurant is in a shared parking lot but parking is great! Will I return? Always lol. Just picked up my to go order, I wish I could of got it in a large to go bowl but it's ok. Food is fresh!

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance ~ Exceptionally delicious and authentic food ~ My favorite restaurant in The Woodlands.
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
Lovely Thai restaurant. I love the decoration and environment. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Our waiter Amy was amazing and very friendly. The restaurant offers lunch specials and Happy Hour. I will definitely be back to try Happy Hour
google avatar

Edward P.

Yelp
When you walk in the place looks like a high end Asian restaurant. The prices do not reflect that though which is good. The food was good. The shrimp & pork dumplings were very pleasing to the palate plus their texture was great because that were perfectly cooked. The service was excellent. She was attentive and helpful. The entire experience was much better than any others I've had before.
google avatar

Ray V.

Yelp
So good... I over ate. Tried to stop, but couldn't. We had the satay for an app, 3 dishes, soup, and everything I tasted was delicious... so good. Great service, nice looking restaurant and clean bathrooms (very important). Can't wait to return to try the rest of the menu.
google avatar

Bettina W.

Yelp
I couldn't believe this restaurant reviews good reviews. The green curry w/ chicken was horrific. I am a foodie, have eaten Asian food everywhere all over the world. I came to this restaurant w/ another Asian friend as well. The brown rice, extra of course, was dry and the entree seemed left over from the next day. Terrible. Never go back.
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Amazing food and enjoyable atmosphere. Great to have good Thai food in The Woodlands.
google avatar

Mel S.

Yelp
It's just okay. Mid priced Chinese. The orange peel chicken didn't taste like orange peel can't describe it it was weird. Egg rolls - hot crispy delicious Vegetable curry was just okay too wasn't piping hot or anything, just blah it was food. I probably won't try this place again because there are a GA-Zillion Chinese or Korean or Thai restaurants around. The rice and egg rolls were the best thing. The service was mediocre also. No big wows here.
google avatar

Janet H.

Yelp
I just had the worst experience at charm. I ordered my food and it came cold. the manager was extremely rude. My husband Rice was cold. I asked them for his name and they refuse to tell me. Very disrespectful.
google avatar

Joseph F.

Yelp
This is, by far, a restaurant that deserves every single star. My friend and I went on a Sunday night before closing and we were helped by Raven (and another server, but didn't get his name). Customer service was a lowkey art form here, never any hesitation with (spot on) suggestions and impeccably quick service. Drinks: - the Mule was fantastic, it was easy and gave me a tropical vibe for the middle of the winter - the pineapple and pomegranate martini was deadly good, another tropical vibe that just worked so well - I asked for a recommendation and got a secret drink...all I'll say is the base is Thai tea and honestly need not say more Food: - soft rolls (spring / summer-type rolls) had fresh veggies and a delicious take on peanut sauce (they add a bit of chili paste) - Massaman Curry...curries are my go-to and this does not disappoint (if you like white people spicy, go for the mild, otherwise go higher) - pad Thai...I got this to go because I wanted a meal for the next day, it was absolutely phenomenal...again white people spicy should go for mild - friend got fried rice (I can't comment on it because I have celiac and couldn't eat it), but they said nothing but positives - mango sticky rice... yum, maybe a little more rice, but delicious All of the dishes came on dishes or plates that were brought here from Thailand and it add a simple authentic feel to the whole meal.

Yelp
So good! Started with shrimp soft roll (like a Vietnamese spring roll). Really good. I had the basil eggplant dish with veggies. Very good. BUT the star standout for me, was my daughter's meal- kids noodle dish with chicken and veggies. It was huge and so delicious. I kept sneaking bites.

Jasmin S.

Yelp
Very delicious food, and polite employees. Only bad take on this restaurant was for the fresh soft rolls, there was only one shrimp in each roll. Other than that food was so filling with hefty portions!
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
Where to begin? The entire experience was awful. They did not have green curry. (This was maybe an hour into the dinner shift, nowhere near closing.) How does a Thai restaurant not have green curry? Ordered Spicy Garlic edamame as an appetizer. Inedible. The Kha soup was unlike any I've had, and not in a good way. The consistency was similar to an undissolved flour mixture. The chicken pieces looked and tasted like they were well past their expiration date. The white rice was an inedible mush. The server got our order wrong. When we pointed out the error, they acknowledged that it was incorrect (it was correct on the receipt, so that one is on the kitchen staff). We assumed they would return with the correct food, but no, they just ghosted us for the rest of our visit. Will. Not. Be. Back.

Joshlyn R.

Yelp
Service is everything for me. The food does not match the service. It doesn't make sense how their food is outstandingly delicious but their people skills are lack thereof... I haven't ate here in a while because everytime i come for my lunch break, it's always an uncomfortable experience entering and leaving. The servers are always unhappy, there's no greeting "hi my name is john, i'm happy to serve you today. What beverages can i get for you while you look at the menu?" They literally HATE to sit you down at a table and they never give you eye contact so it takes 10-15 minutes just to order and to pay the check. They expect you to tip even though they have the worst service. THE FOOD IS PAID FOR THE TIP IS HOW YOU TREATED ME. If you tip a small amount THEY WILL CONFRONT YOU ABOUT IT.

Chino N.

Yelp
Went to grab lunch with some coworkers and walked in. Immediately greeted by news paper on the wall with a white man on there, if I was alone I would've left but I knew the food was gonna be bad. Food was not good way too sweet for sure, the pad see ew noodles was too tuff and no flavor. That's why I don't eat Asian food outside of china town, 2 stars just because the host was cool.
google avatar

Jonarose V.

Yelp
My only issue is the service time to greet and receive the check. Otherwise, this place is pretty much solid. Bruhhhh, the Tom Kha is life. The coconut, tofu, shrimp, lemon grass. I loved it. Only minor thing it was a bit heavy handed on salt, but it happens, I'm not mad. Spicy edamame wasn't the spicy I was looking for. I was looking for more, maybe add a little chili oil? And the crispy calamari, chillleeeeee she crispy for sure. The experience and aesthetics were dope. Hopefully next time I can give them a full 5.

Taryn W.

Yelp
Server did not greet us, waited over 10 minutes with open tables. Server was very rude. Racist!!!!
google avatar

Lee K.

Yelp
Service is very slow due to all the take out orders and not enough production staff to keep up with that and seated in restaurant customers. It takes a long time to receive a menu, and twice as long to get a drink (which I flagged someone down to get that). I played games on my phone to pass the time. Then I still waited an unreasonable length of time. Food is delicious but service sucks. Nice restaurant but some management kinks need to be worked out.
google avatar

Troy W.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Thai food I've had in the area - even better in some ways than Several of my favorite Thai restaurants in Houston. We had roti & curry, spicy Thai basil fried rice with shrimp, Thai basil with crispy pork. I've had better roti but it was good. Fried rice was awesome. Thai Basil was incredible - crispy pork belly cooked to perfection. Next time I want to try the khau soi - I don't see that often at Thai restaurants & waiter said it was very good. Sadly we forgot to take photos but I am so happy to find a really good Thai restaurant in the area.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Fantastic!! Little different with a seat yourself. But the food is awesome!! I think the staff needs the same shirts as a casual dining experience. The service was good. Love love love the food!!!
google avatar

Analiza W.

Yelp
Food is very good. So far the best Thai restaurant I've been in spring. The service was amazing! And loved the ambiance.
google avatar

Desireah R.

Yelp
I met a couple of friends here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was extremely busy so I thought the food must be delicious. Wrong. Service was extremely slow and the food was just okay. Not sure if I would give this place another try
google avatar

Taryn B.

Yelp
I got the panang curry and mango sticky rice and both were amazing. I will definitely be returning in the future.

Nam P.

Yelp
Called for take out. No answer. Arrived and ordered for takeout. Food came promptly but got chicken instead of pork. Called back and still no answer. Probably good for dine in which I've never done but I wouldn't do take out again.
google avatar

Kiran S.

Yelp
A community favorite. Fresh food made to order and at an appropriate spice level. Picked up Pad Prik Khing and Pad Kee Mao for dinner. Set us back $37 including taxes and tip - not cheap for two dishes and no drinks! Food was tasty although some of the meat in the Pad Kee Mao was very tough and chewy. Overall, as expected, tasty, spicy, satisfied Thai food craving!

Bryan M.

Yelp
Delicious Thai in an unassuming location. Wonderful appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Small inside but not to be fooled.
google avatar

Ruby Grace V.

Yelp
First time trying out this place! The best thai place ive had around the area! I havent had good pad thai in a while and this one sets the bar high. My husbands pad see ew was also very good though be added way more spice than I wouldve liked. Definitely making this a regular stop!
google avatar

Indira M.

Yelp
It was our first time coming here. I had the massaman curry with beef. I ordered mine mild and I'm very glad that I did. My husband had the green curry with shrimp and ordered is medium. The medium is very hot. So something between the two is probably the right heat. Our service was really good, she was attentive without being intrusive. The food was delivered in a timely way. They have a full bar and do exotic drinks. Worth trying. We'll be back.

Yelp
Food delicious, service was excellent and the restaurant has good ambiance, clean and inviting. I highly recommend Charm Thai Bistro
google avatar

Sheryl A.

Yelp
I have visited Charm Thai Bistro twice at this location. The waiter/waitresses are attentive and do their best to be expedient. However, my experience is they have limited staff in the dining area. The times I visited, the dining staff were also responsible to facilitate take out orders which seemed to overloaded the staff waiting on tables. The entrees were served as ordered and were fresh and tasty both visits. You could order your own measurement of spice (heat) which was a nice twist! The dining environment was equivalent to a fast food chain rather than a fine dining experience. Overall my experiences were satisfying but felt the service could be much improved by management hiring take out staff.
