I was so lucky that the place we were grabbing a bite to eat was not open during their normal hours. Charm just happened to be down the road and open, so I thought it would be a perfect chance to try a new Thai spot. The inside is super inviting and cozy, and the waitress that greeted us was very friendly. She let us know that the owners were Northern Thai, so they specialized in curries and noddle dishes. My boyfriend loves to order a large spread of items when its a new place so we got the crab Rangoon, crispy wontons, chicken satay, tom ka gai, spicy basil chicken, crispy chicken with massamun curry, blue blossom latte, and chocolate hazelnut latte. Our waitress had to bring two tables together to fit all our food. This meal ended up being one of the best I have had in a while, one of the top thai spots in the valley by far. Breaking the items down:
Crab rangoon-super thin crispy shell, perfectly golden, generous filling. Often, you find places the outer shell can be too hard, but this just crunched and practically melted in your mouth.
Crispy wontons- another perfectly fried dish, and I almost never eat fried food, but they looked so tempting I gave in. It was done so well, I tried every item, even the others that were fried. The wonton filling was juicy, and they placed them on top of cabbage and topped them with this creamy sweet and spicy sauce. It was a different take than I've had before, and I loved it!
Chicken satay- tender meat, not on skewers but pounded flat. The peanut sauce was not as sweet as some spots, but it was still wonderful, and they had a little cucumber salad to go with it.
Tom ka gai- We had ordered this a level three spice, but I would say it did not taste like there was any spice. The flavor was still really delicious, though, more coconut forward than some spots.
Spicy Basil Chicken - I have not had a spicy basil chicken close to being this good in many years. Tender pieces of chicken instead of ground like many places, the sauce had been so wonderfully developed as well. I ordered level 2 spice on it to be safe. I would say it was closer to a 3 or 4. I can handle spices, usually 5 out of 10 or below though, so that was fine.
Crispy chicken with massamun curry - chicken was not to oily at all, but still tender. The curry was so rich and deep in flavor. It was like a warm hug.
Blue Blossom Latte - The color is made with the blue pea flower and has a very delicate flavor with subtle jasmine undertones. It's creamy and perfect to pair with spicy food. They had a large selection of beverages on their menu that you do not normally see at most Thai restaurants. My boyfriends chocolate hazelnut I did not try, but he loved it. It looked very decadent.
The service the whole time was amazingly kind and welcoming, and it matched how special the food was. We can not wait to come back and try some of their noodle dishes, as they make the noodles in-house. It is truly a hidden gem.
