The carryout I ordered from here last night contained a metal screw. As I was eating my food I took a bite and felt something hard. I spit it out and it was a small metal screw. I tried to call and it was past 9 so they were closed. I called today and the gentleman on the phone said the best he could do is remake my food if I brought it back today. He said he cannot even give me a refund. This dangerous and disgusting situation was handled so poorly that I have no choice but to post this review. It is a miracle I didn't bite down or swallow the screw and that is the only positive of this situation. If you value your life, I wouldn't recommend eating from here.

Google
Love stopping here from time to time to grab delicious food. Highly recommend the garlic naan and chicken biryani. Cooked perfectly every time. Chicken is flavorful and juicy, bread always fresh. So good!

Google
Best Indian food ever. My husband and I’s minds were blown. Get the naan!

Google
We went for lunch and ended up to be an awesome decision. My friend had chicken dum Biriyani, which was wow!! It was more closer to Kolkata biriyani than Hyderabadi style. Mild spice and lot of aromas. We also tried the rice with goat curry and it was brilliant as well. The service was too good and prompt. Only downside, while we were waiting for the food, a random guy walked in and started asking for change from all the patrons 😁

Google
Had been in the area and decided to try out this place. Wasn’t too crowded, super friendly and courteous staff, quick ordering without wait. Food looked great and was deliciously delicious! Naan’s not chewy, was thin and properly made. Veg entrees had decent serving. Good place to try out 👍🏼

Google
Got the butter chicken and rice with some naan on the side. The host did not ask me for a spice level, but I overheard her ask the other customers for their spice level. The butter chicken tasted too sweet, but the rice was good. There was a 10 minute wait for the naan. When it came out, it tasted and felt undercooked. Update: I have dined in here multiple times. The food is good, it’s not always consistent, but it’s usually tasty.

Google
Just absolutely fantastic food and wonderful service. We ordered two dishes of the Lamb Vindaloo and one Chicken Curry. They were perfect. I got the medium+ spice and my son got the medium spice. Mine was about as much heat as I could handle and it was perfect. This place is a must go!

Google
Loved the dum goat biryani with all the stuff, especially freshly inhouse fried onion, you don't see much of it anywhere. Also ordered Szechuan noodles.. Spicy and simply yummy. Ended up going there by accident but certainly recommend to try it.

Yelp
This was some of the best Indian food that I've had in a long time. Me and my son went. He ordered the lamb curry and I got the channa masala. We got garlic naan and rice with our dishes. It was so delicious. The woman taking our order at the cash register was kind. The food came out hot and fresh. We highly recommend.

Yelp
Visited by again this week on our way to the DIA. Last week was vegetarian, this week I tried the goat. Tasty! Friendly place. I'm not real literate in the topic of Indian food, and I was guided through the menu based on some of my interests. Don't miss the naan! They also had mango smoothies available which was delicious

Yelp
Excellent! I highly recommend this place for Indian food! I ordered online and picked up in the store! The whole process was very smooth! Friendly staff and the food was highly delicious! I recommend the Butter Chicken and the Gobi 65, but everything I had was delicious! Also make sure to have some naan bread!

Karen G.

Yelp
Nice little spot for lunch. Food is tasty, service was friendly. We shared ago I 65, shrimp vindaloo and garlic naan (for two) and we were both satisfied and delighted with the flavors. Their chai was delicious!

Yelp
Go to spot for indian food! Portions are large, everything is made to order fresh and delicious! Menu has tons of options to choose from. Some of the best chicken tikka masala I've had! Usual dishes: chicken tikka masala, chili chicken, butter chicken, shrimp 65, veggie samosas (especially the mint chutney), dal tadka, and Chana masala. Service is always friendly, usually do pickup but there are a decent amount of spots to sit inside, very clean and free tea! Looking to try the Troy location so I can branch out and try some new dishes at their buffet.

Yelp
The two young ladies working the front and running food were super helpful, but I forget their names. We ordered a chana masala and an aloo gobi there that were done perfectly. I can be a difficult customer as a vegan, but they knew what all could be done without ghee or paneer and let me know the roti could be done vegan and the rice was safe, but I should avoid the naan. We ordered two entrees and both got stuffed and still had leftovers, so the portion sizes are great. Will be returning next time I'm hungry around downtown. Also, nice views from the front window with some great people watching.

Yelp
Walk in to register & order. Had no idea what any of the food was, but i love goat & lamb, so asked the person behind the register what those dishes were. they were explained very well & spice levels 1-5. I tried 2. It was just enough that you tasted the spice. Nose barely running . I'm sure 3 would have runny nose, teary eyes & burning tongue. The food was delicious! Food was brought to the chosen table in topless takeout containers along with paper plates & plasticware. Simply ask for the tops when finished, and you're good to go.

Shay g.

Yelp
Whoever runs this location needs to talk to the other one downtown!!! The food here is 1000x more flavorful and consistent at this location. I cant believe how much better the butter chicken & chicken tikka masala were

ML R.

Yelp
Meh. Samosa (veg) were good, but the sauces were super thin and watery. The lamb dish was incredibly dry and depressingly bland. It took a lot of water to eat it and I never found the seasoning. The naan was decent, but a little hard at the edges. The gulag jamun was super heavy and either hadn't been soaked enough or was too dense for the syrup to penetrate. Once I cut it up and let it soak up the syrup, it was ok - but seriously under seasoned. No cardamom flavor at all. Not actively horrible, but I wouldn't order again.

Emma W.

Yelp
The best Indian in Metro Detroit. I go at least twice a month because it is that good. The staff is fast and very nice. The best food is the chicken korma - creamy, delicious, and the chicken itself is perfectly tender. Can't recommend enough.

Ahmed A.

Yelp
I love their service.. quantity also good ... I love their somossa chat . I used to go there. For biryani and somosa chat
google avatar

Desirae M.

Yelp
Maybe it was what I ordered but the butter chicken tasted like tomato soup with chunks of chicken... the garlic naan tasted like it was frozen.. the only thing I enjoyed were the samosas. My boyfriend ordered the chicken curry, it wasn't terrible however the taste was off, didn't taste like curry. The rice was lacking in spices. Really long wait for mediocre food.. plus we got an orange Fanta that expired months ago.

Yelp
Food is good. Ordered two mild spice dishes, one was very mild, the other was medium+ heat. Although website said open until 10pm, was told "carryout only" at 8:30pm Counter person was unpleasant. Extremely bright dining room.

Melissa J.

Yelp
The food is consistently good, though it always takes them longer than they predict to make orders.

Olivia B.

Yelp
If people order food & eat inside, plleeasssseeee serve the food on a plate. They serve their food in plastic to go containers. Food would've looked and tasted a lot better had it been served on a plater or plate
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Their web site should be BOMB.com my first visit was good it took time to get the order but you can't rush perfection here. The spices were pungent and the aroma was loud and pleasant. My new lunch spot yum
google avatar

Francis D.

Yelp
Original review still holds true but additional details should be included. Wheel chair accessible, service was quick, I would recommend it for great Indian cuisine. Don't let the presentation fool you it is hearty and the chutneys, curries and sauces are what really make the meal.

Dean B.

Yelp
We ordered delivery for here, and while the food ordered was correct and arrived on time, it just wasn't all that good. Considering how impressed I've been with Detroit's culinary options, this was a rare swing and a miss for me in the Detroit culinary scene. The Szechuan noodles tasted watery and flavorless. The noodles seemed to match the spiciness levels we requested, but considering the lack of flavor, it tasted like we were eating spiced soggy noodles. The vegetables mixed in were also substandard. They distinctly tasted like defrosted bagged precut mixed vegetable blends. Depending on the particular vegetable, they were either devoid of flavor entirely or soggy and bitter. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be looking for a different Indian restaurant to satisfy my Indian cuisine needs.
google avatar

Mary W.

Yelp
The butter chicken is by far my new favorite! Paired with the garlic naan and OMG... We even made all 3 of our boys taste it when we got home and shockingly 2 of the 3 picky eaters actually said they would eat it again!
google avatar

Barbara Y.

Yelp
We were driving downtown Saturday evening and drove past this place. We decided we were hungry so we circled around a few blocks to head back to this restaurant. We were happy we did. The Butter Chicken was the best we have ever had. The Palak Paneer was also amazing. We got one side of rice and one side of naan. Great meal and great combination.

Mint C.

Yelp
Had the lamb biryani and garlic bread. They had it ready quickly and the food was delicious. I'd post pics but I ate it before realizing I should have taken some pics lmao

Yelp
I've been here at least 8 times over the past year, and each time I come, I enjoy it, just like the first time! I do the Buffett and literally am always thrilled with how it nourishes and feeds my appetite!!! I get the palak paneer (spinach dish), biryani rice (on the side), butter chicken IS TOP TIER, Chana masala (chickpea dish) and the chicken curry (whole pieces of dums & thighs). Service is always good too: simple and direct: Alam is so helpful and patient. I highly recommend Charminar House because it's consistent, "clean", easily accessible, plenty of free parking, doesn't break the bank, perfect for dining alone, family or groups, and it brings the authentic Indian culture to your plate

Brian T.

Yelp
Butter chicken was outstanding along with the rice and garlic naan. Grand opening saved me 15%. Staff were friendly and accommodating. I'll definitely go back here. The wait was a little long, but they just opened, so it's not a big deal.

Yelp
Very delicious, love the butter chicken bread, Curry Chicken. Very delicious food.. Enjoy

Yelp
Let me preface this review by saying I grew up in the restaurant business. My father was absolutely the best cook I ever knew. I try to eat at a place at least 3 to 4 times before I pass judgment because I understand that things happen. This place is not good. The only consistent thing about this restaurant is it's in consistency. Today the tandoori chicken was cold like it came out of the refrigerator. Indian food is highlighted by a bread called naan. The naan tasted like it was a day old dried out like it had been sitting overnight. I did one of the sauce-based dishes I bit into a piece of chicken that I thought was going to make me throw up. I want you to know that I'm not saying these things just to be vicious my wife and I left full plate of food on the table and went and paid $34 for two lunches. I promise you, you will truly be better served eating somewhere else. This place is absolutely terrible. One star is one star too many.

David D.

Yelp
Great to see this place open - seems like campus could support a few Indian restaurants (and I'd still love to see a South Indian restaurant serving dosas open). Big menu - lots of dishes you'd expect to see, including some Indo-Chinese. Tried the chicken korma, palak paneer, aloo gobi, pakoras, gobi 65, aloo paratha, and mango lassis. Everything was solid.

Tony C.

Yelp
Awesome Dom Shrimp Biryani tonight! The spicy food was appropriate for such a cold December night. Actually it was too spicy for me but I brought it on myself! ;) The samosa was a much tamer appetizer before the main course. I did not realize this location has only been open eight months. Keep up the good food!
google avatar

Sherry K.

Yelp
We got the curry, tikka masala, butter chicken and vindaloo, plus some naan and kulcha. Everything was well done with varying degrees of heat.

Shiver M.

Yelp
Glad they have arrived, the staff were super friendly and the Gobi Manchurian dish is one of the top I have had in the metro area. Some of the other dishes left me unfulfilled but I have a few recommendations. Lamb Biryani was overdone and the meat was tough. The marinade for the butter chicken dish was overly sweet, so it would benefit from less sugar and more tanginess. The chicken, however, was cooked and tender which I enjoyed. Hope to see the improvements, and looking forward to making this my go to spot for Indian!
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Decent Indian, could use non prison flatware and dishes. It is what it is, but worth it.

Tamilya F.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this spot, I had the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan and it was amazing! My husband wanted shrimp fried rice and the managed to make him a huge portion and he enjoyed it, too! It took a while for the fried rice but that's my only complaint and the only reason I only gave it 4 stars. We will be back. Service was adequate considering our order was a take out.
google avatar

Darryl D.

Yelp
I visited with a friend. The food seems pretty authentic; though, the heat level of my Butter Chicken wasn't very hot at all. I got the 4 of 5. It seemed mild to me. The butter sauce for the butter chicken was colorful, thick and tasty. I really liked the butter garlic naan and the rice. Overall pretty good. It's a little pricey. You have to choose rice or naan with your meal. If you want both, you have to pay extra and extra for a drink as it is not included with the meal. I would visit again, though not regularly because of price.

David N.

Yelp
Got our order wrong twice. Never coming back. Shouldn't be that hard to get a simple meal from the menu. Awful place.

Amirra T.

Yelp
Amazing food, spices and clean food exotic aromas amazing friendly service! I highly recommend this place. You can choose your spice level and they have a huge menu so much to choose from will come back soon

Joe R.

Yelp
Good considering the location. Tasted authentic. But felt one of the dish (veg appetizer - onion pakora) was reheated not fresh. Otherwise ok, I had Choli +Butora., mixed nonveg kabob, and onion pakora.
google avatar

Paul N.

Yelp
Delicious food and very nice people with good customer service I recommend the chicken masala spicy

Jordan J.

Yelp
Huge menu so there's lots to try. I got the butter chicken, garlic naan, and samosas. Really good and flavorful food. Great portion sizes. I got the medium spice level & I think next time I go back I'll get the next spice level up. Ordered takeout & when I picked it up the restaurant was very clean with plenty of seating.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Consistently bad --food is bland or overcooked, orders are always 20 mins later than specified. Over priced.

Malcolm L.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant one day and I would Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great Indian cuisine. great service and amazing food

Jay B.

Yelp
Really tempted to give 5 starts, as the food is fantastic. However, the seating area feels sterile and unwelcoming, which leads me to only do takeout from here (which comes with a lot of single use plastics/styrofoam). My suggestions are to make the seating area more welcoming and to shift toward more sustainable carryout packaging options.

Adam C.

Yelp
Everything is amazing. The chicken tiki masala is my favorite but you can't go wrong with anything you get it.

Tiwanna H.

Yelp
So good! I've been looking for a closer place for Indian food and I found it. Everything was fresh, spicy as I requested and flavorful.

Rob B.

Yelp
A number of issues. Have been waiting to try this restaurant. Disappointment with the ordering process over the phone. Asked what chicken dishes come with white meat. Was told Chicken Curry. Got home it was made with dark meat. Ordered it Mild - got it medium. Girl taking the order seemed distracted. Alo Gobi was good. Received it mild as ordered. Recommendation. Check your order before you leave. At least for the spice level.

Emily H.

Yelp
The food is so delicious and is my favorite indian spot to go to! The samosas are the best I have tried as well as the butter chicken! Overall amazing!!!

Trish P.

Yelp
Some of the most flavorful Indian food that I have had in a long time. I ordered the Vindaloo goat and the paneer tikka mandala. Both had complex flavors and just right amount of spicy heat. I will definitely be back!

Taylor M.

Yelp
Had a great meal (large portions and great price) and the customer service was excellent. The gentleman who took my order made a great recommendation and I'm stuffed!
google avatar

Alivia V.

Yelp
i have been so excited for this restaurant to open because campus has needed an indian restaurant. the food was great, chicken tikka biryani was phenomenal!
