We were at the Chart house in Cardiff to celebrate my good friend of over 35 years Birthday. Kevin the waiter was fabulous. He was attentive, kind and professional. Best of all was my Prime Rib. The chef cooked it to perfection. Just the way I like it. My friends and I had a wonderful time.

Had friends in town and stopped by for drinks. Food was good. Service was ok forgot to give us steak knives for our steaks and slow on refills for drinks. But all forgiven because the ocean view and this flight of mojitos was amazing. Will go back just for drinks at the bar.

Went here during restaurant week with a friend. I got the stuffed shrimp with crab and the Caesar salad plus sorbet for dessert. The restaurant was packed and you would have to find parking on the side street unless you want valet.

We had a large party with a semi-pre-arranged menu with an open bar. Even with the large party, the service was great. The drinks from premium to well drinks were very good. The lobstertail and steak were great as well. The sunset and views were tremendous.

We have been coming here for over thirty years to celebrate special occasions. We came today to celebrate our 36th anniversary and or server did everything to make it extra special. The sunset was spectacular!

Google
Rude and vulgar staff, outdated chain restaurant pretending to be local fine dining. Crazy prices for the quality. Valet parks customer vehicles illegally in the bike lane of the highway. I have reached out to local and corporate staff and have not heard back from either.

Google
Disappointed in the food this trip. The burger was charred and overcooked. Asked for medium well and it was more than well done with burned edges. Chopped salad wasn’t chopped. Way too much dressing. Mango shrimp and avocado stack was great. Always beautiful view and atmosphere. Service was good.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in SoCal. The staff is exceptional. Location is beautiful and food is exquisite.

Yelp
The food and service was amazing! The salmon was soooo good, and the flavors really stood out. Same with the Key lime pie. You could tell that everything they use is fresh.

Yelp
Chart house has forever been our go to restaurant. How ever, a recent visit concerned us. their delicious chopped salad was a huge disappointment. The dressing had no flavor. the spinach leaves looked shredded not chopped. It had about 4 tiny pieces of bacon and less of egg. My husbands shrimp was a disappointment. We ran into another couple from Carlsbad who said they too were disappointed with their meals. Otherwise, service was great! Cocktails were delicious. Restaur clean and presentable

Yelp
I'm upgrading my previous review to a 4 star. It's still not the stellar place it used to be many years ago but it's made some improvements since my last visit. I went with my friend for dinner. We went to the bar because the restaurant was full and we didn't want to wait for a table. We sat down at a bar table that had just been vacated and it was a good 25 minutes before a person actually cleared the table and gave us menus. They said they were short staffed as it was before sunset when everyone wants to come to enjoy the view, but honestly I think it involved a bit of disorganization. The food was actually good. Not particularly memorable but decent for the locale. I think it's a good place for someone who likes fairly traditional food and wants a view.

Yelp
My husband and I visited Chart House for a Valentine's date the day after Valentine's Day, with reservations made for 5:00 pm (mind you we made this reservations weeks in advance understanding that restaurants are busy during Valentines weekend). We arrived at 4:55 pm, expecting it to be busy, but the restaurant was packed and we were informed by the hostess that they were running behind. We didn't mind the wait too much, but we weren't seated until 5:20 pm at a cramped corner table clearly added for the busy weekend. While our waitress was friendly, the service left much to be desired. She forgot to put in our appetizer order, and when we ordered our main meals and drinks, I asked about the appetizer. She admitted she had forgotten it. By the time the food arrived about 15 minutes later, the appetizer was still missing. I had the herb-crusted salmon, which was cooked perfectly, but my husband had ordered a New York strip with potatoes and shrimp scampi. What he received was a filet, missing the shrimp scampi entirely, and there wasn't even a steak knife for his meal. At this point, after waiting over an hour without food, it became clear no one was going to check on us, so we decided to just eat. Finally, after we were almost done with our dinners, the waitress returned to inform us that the wrong order had been brought to our table. She explained the restaurant had added extra tables for the busy weekend, which had thrown off the staff. She eventually brought the shrimp scampi, but by this point we had already finished our meals. While the food we did get was delicious, the overall experience was disappointing. It's unfortunate that a Landry's restaurant, which usually provides a better standard of service, seemed more focused on cramming in as many people as possible during the busy holiday weekend than providing a quality experience. It was a frustrating and underwhelming night for what should have been a special occasion.

Yelp
Did not even get to try it. Valet parking back up by 5 cars 15 minutes before our reservation. Guy tells us lot is full and try parking elsewhere, everywhere within a .50 distance is filled. No apology or anything these guys suck. Better parking at third corner

Yelp
We decided to celebrate our anniversary at Chart House, and while there were some highlights, it didn't quite live up to expectations. We started with the SHRIMP COCKTAIL, which was fresh and tasty--definitely a good beginning. For drinks, I ordered the FLEUR D' LIS, and unfortunately, it was way too sweet for my taste and unpalatable, think syrup...My husband had the CHOCOLATE & BOURBON, which he loved, so at least that was a win. For the main course, I went with the CHART YOUR COURSE ($55), which includes a 10 oz. prime rib, Caesar salad, and a mini lava cake. The prime rib was cooked to the right temperature (medium rare), but it lacked flavor and the skin was practically leather. A bit of a letdown for a prime rib. The Caesar salad, which is usually one of my favorites, was off. The greens didn't seem properly washed, and you could taste the grit. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious, but the mini lava cake was by far the highlight of the meal. We also ordered an extra side of creamed spinach, which was just ok. Overall, it was a dissatisfying experience, with the food. Service was great and the view as well. I'd say there's room for improvement, especially for the price. Would I return? Most likely not to this location, unless I'm in the mood for the lava cake and mashed potatoes. We had a complete different experience at the San Antonio, Texas location, which we loved!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere, and delicious food. We made reservations ahead of time. Found a spot not too far from the restaurant and we were seated right away. It was a bit disorganized, they must have been short staffed that night... our waiter took our drink order and then another waiter came up a few minutes later asking us for our drink order again because the other waiter was overwhelmed. We also had questions about the menu and the waiter had to go get another waiter to answer the questions. We still enjoyed the wonderful view and the food and drinks were incredible! I had the Mac Nut Mahi and it was amazing and my husband had the filet mignon that was okay. We also had the delicious Key-lime pie for dessert and it was light and delicious. We'll definitely be back for the food, drinks, and view!

Yelp
Been here once before about a year ago and it was excellent Went there again yesterday with the family to celebrate a very special birthday Our server Kayla was a wonderful guide on the best wines and food selections, she was quick on her feet The view from our booth in her section was immaculate Sunset is the main event for the whole restaurant to watch as the skyline sparkles over the ocean Delicious steak and great company makes a very relaxing and romantic evening

Danii V.

Yelp
We made a reservation for 12:45 We were a little late as the line for valet was not moving for a full 5 minutes When we arrived there was no host I walked up to the desk and a woman told me "the host will help you soon" Although we had a reservation we had to wait 10 more minutes to be seated Ambiance and view were amazing ! It was quiet and rather empty which was nice The view of the ocean is so beautiful Our server was friendly and attentive After ordering our food It was ready within 10-15 minutes which was also nice My mother enjoyed her mojito My daughter enjoyed her Shirley temple and I loved the mimosa Pros My lemon herb salmon was soo delicious ! Well seasoned - WITH the sauce without the sauce the potatoes are bland and salmon is decent but as a whole this dish is EVERYTHING I wanted and more Cons My daughter was excited to have the French toast as is listed on the website menu BUT our server let us know the online menu is NOT updated and they Do Not offer French toast My daughter was disappointed by her "overcooked bacon" My mother was extremely disappointed with her food She ordered the Chart House omelette and described it is "underwhelming" Her shrimp and lobster tasted overcooked with no seasoning but the breakfast potatoes were delicious ! We were sad that no one acknowledged the special occasion/ reason we were dining which was my daughter birthday We noted it on our reservation but the server nor hostess mentioned it So I asked if they offered anything for birthdays Our server mentioned we could receive a mud pie We also ordered the dessert our server recommended which was Volcano cake We had to wait over thirty minutes for our dessert ! Although the food was good and the views were divine Waiting 30 minutes for dessert made us want to ask for the check instead The volcano cake was not worth the wait It was overcooked but presentation was nice Overall I enjoyed this visit I do not believe the service is worth the price you pay or the time you spend waiting But I was happy to find out valet was based on gratuity as opposed to standard $10 + Side Note: ‼The servers need to truly ask about allergies prior to taking orders or recommending dishes ‼ The mud pie given for birthdays included NUTS We did not know until my daughter mentioned her throat itching after eating the pie !! Luckily we carry allergy medicine on us but knowing in advance could've prevented a serious allergic reaction

Yelp
Fantastic food every time. I have no idea why the rating is so low ?? But definitely try it- view is insane. And super good wine

Scott W.

Yelp
Worst food I have had in a while. Calamari was cold, undercooked and cold. Entree was a mess with the piece of sea bass invisible. Sent back for a cheeseburger.

Lynn R.

Yelp
Came for a birthday lunch with our Landry's Select Club birthday reward. Cloudy day but that doesn't dampen the wonderful view. Pods of dolphins cruised by as we dined. We often see them here. And lots of surfers enjoying the swell. We had an outstanding waiter named Devon who took amazing care of us, filling our needs before we even requested things!! One of the most attentive waiters I've ever had!! Big claps to you Devon. Keep up the excellence. Food was a bit disappointing but that seems to be the norm more often than not these days when dining out. Their new signature Bibb and truffle salad with spring veggies and fennel and peas and beets and radishes with honey truffle vinaigrette was very bland tasting. It needed more ingredients besides the lettuce and some crunch. The dressing was very tasteless so I added bleu cheese dressing and that helped. My husbands Cobb salad was good and unnoticed the quantity was much smaller than it used to be. The good old days are definitely gone and this is the new normal. Excellent iced tea. Also, there was no hostess present to quite awhile and the busboy Conner stepped up to seat us. Saw a need and took care of it!

Yelp
After walking the beach, the husband and I decided to eat here because it was literally in our path and on the water. We walk in, and it looks like it would be an upscale experience. We went to the hostess, who puts our name on the list, and immediately tries to sell us on a $25 membership. We declined. We are seated and are greeted by our server, who at first glance seems funny and charming. Very quickly, we realize that's not the case. He makes stat3m2nts about previous customers who didn't tip him. He makes statements about better shifts and some other completely random comments where we felt obligated to give an awkward laugh. We start off ordering - husband orders 1 Oz pour of fancy tequila. We are impressed because the pour is very generous. We later realized they dis in fact, charge us for 2 Oz of this tequila, which was literally a quarter of our entire bill. We order the prefix menu with the addition of the shrimp, avocado, andmangoo appetizer and side of the mushrooms. For the pre fix menu, we got the Ceasars salad and the clam chowder. The server brought the salad and told us the other waitress broke glass in the sou, so they are making new one, we don't mind. We are brought the shrimpthing - it looks amazing and tastes grea, but the user experience wasn't thought through in this dish. It falls apart immediately and is messy to eat. Our waiter brought the clam chowder and then complained that "they" messed up the timing, bringing everything out. We were super confused because he was the one who brought the salad. We are finishing up with the starters when the server comes to the table and starts to pick up the plates, including the one with the clam chowder, which I was actively still eating. Literally had to hand him the spoon that was coming out of my mouth. He told me that there is no rush and I can take my time finishing, which just didn't make sense to me since he was already holding the clam chowder in his hand. Our main come- prime rib for the hubby and the shrimp dish for me. I was going to do the salmon, but the server recommended against it. Shrimp dish was spicy, I can't handle spicy. The meat was excellent. Came with o'jue, which was not necessary in our opinions. I ended up enjoying the meat, and hubby ended up having the shrimp. Now for dessert - the pre fix menu came with mini lava cake. Husband loved it, I was disappointed. Lava cake is one of my favorite desserts. I love getting into it and having the chocolate spill out from the center, dipping each bite into it, collecting ice cream and eating. The problem here was that there was no chocolate spilling out the center. It was just chocolate cake with ice cream on top. Oh, and I ordered tea which never came. The most disappointing part was I was sitting facing the beautiful ocean as the sun was setting but it was going directly in my eye. I asked our server to lower the blinds just a bit. The table next to us asked the same from their server as they were experiencing the same issue. It didn't happen. My husband got up to see if he could lower the blinds but the line was on the opposite side. Luckily, a patron on that side noticed and ended up lowering the blinds. In summary- service is not great. Food is delicious (minus the lava cake). Over priced for what you actually get. We don't plan to come back.

Yelp
we had a great view of the beach! service was outstanding and ambience was terrific! food was amazing and the drinks were excellent. Second year we went for Thanksgiving and we'll be back next year!

Megan S.

Yelp
We came to Chart House for restaurant week and everything was great! Our server was really sweet and answered all of questions and you can't beat the view. They offer a nice happy hour in the bar area that we will definitely be back for. Started with the mussels and artichokes then had the steak and salmon and it was all VERY good. Everything had a lot of flavor.

Dwayne L.

Yelp
This Chart House used to be our go to place for many special occasions but they have lost their way. This restaurant is typical in that it's ambiance draws the crowds, but the food has taken a bit of a decline and, tonight the service was abominable. People at other tables were coming and finishing while we sat and waited. The manager noticed and apologized but offered No gesture of appreciation. It seems like the place has gone down since being taken over by Landry. Corporate profits are more important to them than keeping good will among regulars. We might need to find another go to place for special occasions.

Yelp
This was our first time to visit this ocean view restaurant and we were not disappointed. Valet parking and arriving at the host stand, the employees were very welcoming. We were seated at our time of the reservation and I do believe this was the best table in the restaurant. Our server was Sierra and she did an outstanding job. She served the bread and delivered the water and provided some time to select. Our drinks, appetizer and entrée. We ordered the torched apple manhattan which is more show then drink, but we enjoyed both. The sablefish and the Ahi along with the crab cake was delicious and very filling. Both were beautifully presented. Very appealing to the eye. It must be noted that they had a large group for a banquet arriving when we ordered. I was extremely impressed that the staff in how they made this a very enjoyable experience!

Jana N.

Yelp
My first visit to Chart House was an excellent choice to celebrate a birthday. It's a nice location right off Coast Highway with excellent views of the ocean and picturesque at sunset. Everything pretty much met my expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed their drink menu which has a lot of unique cocktails and other drink options. In particular we ordered the table side torched Apple Manhattan which was a great presentation and had that perfect smokey apple flavor. For the food menu, there were also many good options making it hard to choose, but heard the Mac nut mahi was a signature dish so ordered that as well as the crab cake and 9 oz filet. Thoughts on the food: the mac nut mahi was tender and the mango salsa topping paired well however felt the sauce was a tad too rich, but overall a good dish. The filet was made just to our liking with seared crispiness on the outside, and the price was decent at $46. But what came out as my favorite was the crab cake - literally all crab and no fillers, crispy on the outside and topped with more crab! The sauce, tomatoes and kernels of corn also went very well with it. To end the meal, we ordered the lava cake which of course was decadent and delicious plus they gifted a small slice of cake for the birthday. Overall a really nice experience and perfect birthday dinner spot. The service staff did a good job of welcoming us and providing great service. I also do appreciate that the manager came to our table to say hello.

Jeff S.

Yelp
What a difference the server makes! I've been dining at the chart House on and off for the past 20 years or so and the food is always very good to excellent. However, the service can vary, as based on some of the negative reviews left for this place on Yelp. Rest assured if you are lucky enough to get a good server, you will love your experience here! The views are uncompromised, the food is delicious, the menu is large and fairly reasonably priced for what it is, haven't tried the drinks but they sure look impressive too. Tonight my server was Wendi, and I have to say she made the entire experience so much better! Even though the restaurant was completely packed, she arrived promptly at my table with a pitcher of water and a warm welcoming smile that instantly made me feel at ease. I ordered my favorite meal here, the chart your coarse prefix meal. Three courses including a cup of soup or delicious Caesar salad, a main course and a mini chocolate lava cake alamode for dessert. All for less than $60. My favorite is the miso salmon, it's delicious the way they prepare it here, very unique preparation for salmon (wrapped in prosciutto and topped with a sweet and savory miso glaze) and the al-dente green beans that it's served with are yummy. Chart House has one of the best Caesar salads I've found anywhere as well. Very few restaurants get Cesar dressing right. Here, Mr A's, and believe it or not Bazille the restaurant at Nordstrom's, have my favorite Caesar dressing. If you come here, ask for Wendi and hopefully you will be just as thrilled as I was tonight!

Julie S.

Yelp
We went there for San Diego restaurant week and I had not been in a decade or so! We will go back as everything was perfection! The views were tremendous! The lobster bisque was delicious, the salmon entrée and other fish that we tried were delectable! I had read a lot of Really average or poor reviews about the Chart house, and I was nervous about bringing our friends there, but it was excellent! It's a perfect date night restaurant or place to celebrate for a special occasion! The bar was also Hopping!! Our waitress gave us service and I wish I could remember her name! She was probably in her 40s with brown hair pulled back into a ponytail! It she really enjoyed her job! We went on a Monday.

Dave C.

Yelp
I was a huge fan of the Chart House in the Bay Area when I was younger. Hadn't been back to one in years. Then we moved to Solana Beach and decided to try this one out. It did not disappoint. Our squid ink pasta with shimp and scallops with ceasar salad was fantastic. And my SO is very picky, especially since she is an incredible chef herself. I'll add that the staff and our host, Kailey (sp?) was an absolute delight. Talk about pressure under fire. The place was packed! Oh, and by the way, the Mercedes Maybach was not ours LOL!

Laura B.

Yelp
Our waiter was outstanding in every way. Devin was friendly, efficient and really took care of us. The ahi nachos are soooo great and of course the view spectacular

Beth T.

Yelp
I mean, the ambiance the location, the wait staff, the decor. All are perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. But the food may have been over presented, by the ambiance itself. Presentation is important, but the taste is where everyone is converted. Although Chart house may have not made a believer out of me, I certainly was not upset about my experience. The food is expensive but also standard pedestrian food slightly elevated by edible flowers. Meaning, the food is okay, worth the view you get certainly, but not clambering to make my next reservation anytime soon.

Helen V.

Yelp
We had a family wedding dinner and cake reception for our daughter and her husband right after the wedding at another location. Chart House provided excellent service and everyone in our party of 8 enjoyed their dinner selection and beverages. The servers were excellent, especially with helping to slice and serve the wedding cake. We are so happy our daughter chose the Chart House for her special occasion!

Claudia D.

Yelp
Very bad experience having dinner at your restaurant celebrating my husband's birthday. I RSVP a week ahead asking for a nice view. First of all your hostess had the wrong date all though I have a text confirmation for 02/01 and our view was facing your parking lot. Your food was mediocre, they brought us the wrong dishes which we sent back twice. I think your restaurant is overrated and overpriced for what you have to offer to your customers. We will never come back.

Jill A.

Yelp
The ambiance gets 5 stars. The snooty hostess we had to beg for a table near the window to share a glass of wine on my mother's 89th birthday gets one star. She gets one because she did eventually cave and give us the best seat in the (empty) house. Unfortunately, she couldn't even look at us as we left and said goodbye. Our server was super sweet and although we only ordered an app of deliciously crispy coconut shrimp she didn't try to rush us away. All in all, it was a beautiful, memorable late afternoon.

Rocky V.

Yelp
1 star for bar service (food was good) Bar tender mixed a martini in a shaker from another drink type which resulted in an awful drink. Sent it back after a couple of ghastly sips but was still charged for it.

Louise B.

Yelp
Still No follow up from The Chart House restaurant re 2 people suffering severe Food poisoning on 12/18. Obviously they just DONT CARE

Vivian M.

Yelp
The service was superb!!! We were group of five, had a reservation at 7pm. Sunset was gorgeous by where we were seated! We ordered the Chart house 3 course, worth the price! I'm always looking forward to their lobster bisque and of course, lava cake! With the main entree, I did the shrimp pasta last night, but can't go wrong with their prime rib and salmon too!

Shelly C.

Yelp
We came here in July for a birthday dinner and we had a great table, service, and meal. The bar was a bit slow, but everything else went well. In September we came back and it was awful! We waited for our table even with a reservation. It took 15 minutes for the waiter to greet us just to tell us we were at a pickup table. Then it took 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive and they were wrong. They put a salt rim on a lemon drop martini. Took another 20 minutes to order and 45 minutes to get our food. Tables around us seemed to be served within reasonable time frames. Although, I don't blame the waiter. This is a management issue. My meal was tasty at least but my husband didn't enjoy his meal. I think this place has a lovely view and a good menu but they need some revisions in their service model. Disappointed to say the least and not sure I will return.

L T.

Yelp
We chose Chart House in Cardiff to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary, but the experience was disappointing. Upon arriving, the hostess never even looked up, which made us feel insignificant from the start. Although we noted it was our anniversary when making the reservation, and it was mentioned again when we were seated, it was never acknowledged during the evening. The interior is dated. If it weren't for the ocean view, it's unlikely the restaurant would've left any impression at all. The timing of our meal was frustrating. There was a significant wait between our salads and main courses, and we noticed other tables receiving their food much faster, and even finishing their meal despite ordering after us. When my filet mignon finally arrived, it was overcooked. To the waiter's credit, he handled this issue well. He offered to have my meal remade and removed the appetizer from our bill, which we appreciated. However, by that point, the experience had already left us feeling disappointed and we didn't want to wait any longer. For a restaurant with such a strong reputation, we had higher expectations for both the service and the food quality. Unfortunately, the evening didn't feel as special as we had hoped for such a meaningful occasion.

Bob T.

Yelp
In a word, atrocious. We really wanted to like this place, and from the start, they ensured we wouldn't. We arrived on time for our reservation. After we checked in at the hostess station, another party of four arrived. A fellow from that party went up to the hostess, said he would like a table for four, and handed her some money. They were seated immediately. We had to wait another 15 minutes while our table was being cleaned despite there being plenty of open spots available. So, while reservations aren't required, some palm grease helps if you don't want to be kept standing around for a while. I ordered the Key West Chilean Sea Bass. I got a piece of fish on a bed of rice with everything swimming in a pool of mostly butter. Then, there was the "run of stomach issues" a few hours later. For over $50, I expected something different. I really need to pay more attention to Yelp reviews before trying places for the first time, and in this case, the last time. I strongly recommend that you don't make the same mistake.

Yelp
Warning-Beware. Valet park at the Chart House Cardiff at your own risk! On October 23rd 2024, I took my family to dinner there. We finished shortly after dark. The valet had parked our car next to the building entrance. Later, at home, I noticed a ten-square inch area of damage to the passenger side of the rear bumper. I brought the car to the Chart House and reported it to the manager, who noted the battered bumper. He instructed me to contact the valet service. He advised me that the valet company (LAZ Parking) they contracted with had insurance to cover incidents like this. Long story short, I have waited seven weeks for them to take care of this. At first, LAZ Parking assured me the damage would be fully covered. However, no reimbursement has been forthcoming. Two body shops and Subaru have told me the bumper was not repairable. It will cost me $1400+ to restore my new Outback. The Chart House says they are not accountable. The valet company says I can't prove their employee caused the damage. Please don't let this happen to you. I understand these things can happen anywhere and they are unfortunate. However, in this instance, I believe both parties have shirked their duty to do their utmost to honor their responsibility to their guests. My vehicle has been at Subaru for three days to do the work and I have been told it will be at least two more days till it is completed. Don't let this happen to your family. Kenneth A. Yelp
Best experience always and ever. We have made it a family tradition to come Thanksgiving and Christmas and it has never disappointed! Wonderful service and fresh good food. We will always be back!

Lim K.

Yelp
It's been a while since I dined here. My friends brought me here to celebrate my birthday a coupe of weeks ago. The food was delicious and the service was great. I was pleasantly surprised that they now serve hot green tea. It made my meals more enjoyable and the tea was one of my favorite brands.

Louie Z.

Yelp
Unfortunately Chart House lived up to their 2.9 star rating. It took 15 minutes to be seated when we showed up on time for our reservation. I requested a window table weeks ago and they didn't honor the request even though there were available tables by the window. When the food arrived my side dish was cold and my wife's steak was overcooked. They brought her a new one 20 mins later after dinner was completed and it was exactly the same....overcooked. They ended up taking it back and removing it from the bill. Unfortunately she didn't have steak tonight. Luckily she ordered a shrimp side dish with potatoes. They were out of the Mud Pie dessert as well. The service was just ok. I am so disappointed I brought my wife here to celebrate her birthday. We have been eating here for years and it has been slowly going downhill. We won't be back.

Adam J.

Yelp
The ambiance was great, sitting next to the ocean and enjoying a glass of wine is wonderful. Unfortunately that was about it, I order a steak that was suppose to be medium rare and came out rare. We had the roasted vegetable side dish which was not good. No seasoning on it at all besides some oregano. I was going to say something to the waitress but unfortunately, she didn't really seem too interested in feedback. As a matter of fact, she didn't really engage with us at all besides taking our order. She didn't even ask us if we enjoyed our meal. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, and maybe she was having a bad day. All in all, I'm disappointed in the overall experience here. There are better options to dine out by the beach in San Diego.

Al G.

Yelp
Well, judging from all these current bad reviews, I'm a very leery to bring a friend to celebrate her special birthday. In addition, the 1-star reviews outnumber the 4&5-star reviews, a bit scary. I see the responses from the manager/customer rep are quite cookie cutter and on occasion, irrelevant. Hmmmm.... Decisions, decisions.

Yelp
Super delicious food. Awesome service that makes you feel like you're their only customer. Beautiful restaurant with a breathtaking view.

Yelp
Dinner with friends at Chart House in Cardiff located on the beach. Easy valet parking and hostess seated us right away at a table next to the window. Water and bread to the table lickety-split. Server offers to open brought in wine and brings glasses to the table. Our friends arrive and we begin with a toast but our non wine drinker orders a beer. Server is tending to way too many tables and 15 minutes pass before beer is brought to table. We toast and decide to order the Kim Chee Calamari to start. It is tasty but looks bigger than it is because they present it on a pile of what looks like white edible straw. For my entree I take the servers recommendation of the crab encrusted sea bass with the dynamite sauce. My wife ordered the grilled mahi with a lemon caper sauce and our friends opted for New York Steak and the savory shrimp pasta which included a salad and the mini lava cake. Food was good and plenty of smiles around the table. Corkage is $25 per bottle and final bill with tax and tip came to $360. Chart House is a great place with outstanding atmosphere and highly recommend it for date night our dinner with good friends.

Yelp
Chart House was such a huge disappointment! I made a reservation for a table of 5 for 7:30pm Saturday. The valet was very much congested (there is no regular parking; complimentary valet only). When we checked in, we learned that the restaurant was backed up, so we sat at a high top in the bar area and patiently waited. We didn't mind the wait, because it had been a few weeks since we had seen each other. 30 minutes later someone finally came to take our drinks order just as another person came to lead us to our table, so we were asked to delay ordering the drinks. We were seated at a cozy table in the corner next to the window. This would have been a beautiful view, but it was already dark out so we couldn't see much. The view was beautiful when we arrived at the restaurant, but it was pitched black when we were seated at our table. We did see waves crash against the shore but that was about it. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated and had an upscale vibe to it. We were seated for a good 10 minutes before our waitress came and realized there were no water glasses at our table. 5 minutes later the empty glasses arrived at our table. We waited another 5 minutes before the glasses were filled with water. Another 5 minutes passed before we got our menus. Another 5 minutes before we got some complimentary bread and whipped butter. About 10 minutes later our waitress took our drinks and food order. We came for San Diego's Restaurant's Week, and all 5 of us ordered from this menu. Here's what we ordered from the Restaurant Week menu at $60 each: 1st person: Roasted Shrimp, Surf N Turf, Cheesecake, and an extra hot chocolate lava cake for $12 2nd person: Salmon Belly Stack, Surf N Turf, and Chocolate Silk Tart 3rd person: Salmon Belly Stack, Mahi, and Chef's Homemade Ice Cream 4th person: Beef Carpaccio, Portuguese Stew, and Chocolate Silk Tart 5th person (me): Salmon Belly Stack, Surf N Turf, and Cheesecake 3 of us got our drinks in decent time, the 4th came 15 minutes later, and the last one came about 10 minutes after that. Our drinks were primarily ice. It was so watered down that we barely tasted any alcohol. The roasted shrimp came out about 15 minutes after the order was placed, so my friend who ordered it got to enjoy her appetizer while the rest of us watched. We learned that she actually got an extra order that was prepared for another table by mistake (the ticket for our table was still in queue). We had run out of bread and asked for more since our food was nowhere within sight. The waitress said OK to the bread request, but forgot about it. 20 minutes later the rest of us finally got our appetizers and the bread came 5 minutes after that. The salmon belly stack was good. I liked how the pickled veggies complemented the creaminess of the salmon belly. I scrapped off every last piece from my plate because I didn't know how long it would take to get my entrée! Our entrees arrived about 30 minutes later, which wasn't bad at all. The quality; however, was a disappointment. The steak was overcooked and cold! Also, I noticed my cut was slightly larger than my 2 friends, but it was half of theirs in thickness. One end of it was ¼" in thickness while the other end was 1/2" thick. I got a bad cut that should not have been served! Because my steak was thin, it was "well done" and even though I had asked for "medium." If they ran out of good cuts, then they should've removed Surf N Turf from the menu. I would have gladly ordered the Mahi or Portuguese Stew. The waitress offered to take the steaks back to heat them up, but we were like, "and what, get over cooked steaks an hour later?" Mine was already cold and dry. She offered to replace my steak, but I didn't want to wait indefinitely. It had been well over 2 hours, close to 3 hours from the time we arrived. The steak, grilled shrimp, and garlic mashed potatoes were good in flavor, but because they were cold, my friends and I did not enjoy it. Mine was the worst, because I got the reject cut! The waitress comped us for the extra dessert we ordered, which was only $12. She should have at least offer to remove the watered-down drinks from our tab! The chocolate lava cake was good. The cheesecake was average. The chocolate silk tart tasted like chalk! It was dry and horrible! The dessert should be renamed to "chocolate chalk." Overall, the 5 of us spent well over $500 total for a meal that was mediocre at best. The food would not have been bad if it had been delivered to our table while still hot. The service was terrible from the start and got progressively worse. We made the most out of our evening, but I would never recommend this restaurant. It's such a shame that a high-end chain restaurant failed to execute. They did a really poor job planning for San Diego Restaurant Week. Except for the quality time with my friends, this was an experience I would like to forget.

Yelp
No outdoor seating and not pet friendly. The host seemed disgruntled that we even asked.

Yelp
Awesome Resturant! Food was outstanding and service even better. Our waiter Jared was friendly, knowledgeable on the menu & drinks, and just overall enhanced our experience. Would definitely recommend and come back! Happy hour prices are awesome and the view is not too shabby! Haha just kidding, it's awesome! Best dinner experience we've had in a while! Highly recommend the Chart your Course, the miso glazed salmon was perfect. The herb roasted chicken was also a slam dunk. The house merlot is highly recommended, as well as the lemon lavender bubbles non alcoholic drink! Thank you Jared & Chart House!

Yelp
Our favorite in Cardiff or North County. Always what you would expect, so hard to do. Consistent great food here for over 40 years. Very few if any do this. Nothing in this area comes close to CH, that deserves top awards for this many years. We are restaurateurs, and we acknowledge Chart-house is kicking and waking all restaurants to be like them. Consistent hospitality with great food. All should pay attention. Five plus - plus stars!!! Geo the Bar /Manager , is one of the best we have come across. He is exceptional.

Yelp
Got a gift card so we went to try it out for dinner. We had a reservation, however had to wait 15 minutes to be seated and the lobby felt crowded with people waiting on their reservations. Nice bar space to wait in though. My halibut dish was really good and i was impressed with all the flavors and quality of fish. My boyfriend had the prime rib which he said was just okay. The highlight of the night was the lava cake dessert. It was incredible I see myself coming back for some drinks and the nice view or just some dessert but probably not a regular spot for dinner based on wait time

Yelp
Arrived for a friend's bday dinner too late to enjoy the view, which, judging from other Yelpers' photos, would almost certainly have bumped this review up another star! Food was solid and plentiful but unremarkable at this upscale price point, and I was surprised by the rather lackluster plating of our entrees. Service was slooow, but luckily our party wasn't in a hurry. Birthday boy's wish notwithstanding, I'd probably only return of my own accord for appetizers and/or drinks in time for sunset - thank goodness for happy hour!

Yelp
What a disappointment. Having made an early dinner reservation over a month ago, we were looking forward to a nice dinner with a great view of the ocean. We were meeting another couple who had arrived just before we did, and they were seated in what I can only call the attic!! It was literally a cramped walkway in the ceiling of the restaurant with only a view of the sides of the ceiling unless you peered over the catwalk to see the other diners who were lucky enough to have been seated in the main restaurant with proper service, sir conditioning, and a view. Oh yes, I forgot to mention how hot it was in the attic. Management was clearly aware of this issue since there was a roaring, oscillating fan positioned right behind our table--right next to the massive tub where the servers dumped their dirty dishes, which was also where the kiosk was located where the servers would ring up their orders and complain about their stations--all of this, mind you, was within reaching distance. Since we were meeting other people for dinner, we didn't want to make a scene, so we just suffered in silence. Our server just made things worse. We had to ask for water refills, clean silverware, items were removed, like my knife, and never replaced, while dirty dishes piled up on our table through desert. A few fish entrees were offered grilled, sautéed, poached or blackened. My daughter, who has food allergies, ordered the halibut--grilled. We had asked the waitress numerous questions about this meal, and never was there any mention of any kind of sauce. However when the food arrived, the halibut was drenched in a thick butter sauce. My daughter, in order to not make a scene in front of our guests, scraped it off and attempted to eat around it. Unacceptable! We arrived at this restaurant at 5:30, and we did not get the check until almost 8:30! THREE hours for a simple dinner for a party of 6. Horrific! On top of that, the rest of the food was disgusting as well. So appalling. This description does not do it justice for how bad every single element of our dining experience was.

Yelp
One star for the view...it's really the only reason worth coming. OH, the tables have a soft cushion under the white table covers, so the glasses kept falling over-luckily mine was empty, but the table across from mine had two glasses fall over. The service was pretty good (so a star for our server). Unfortunately, the food wasn't good at all. The Prime Rib had ZERO flavor. The mashed potatoes tasted old or like they've been sitting in a warmer for way too long. The Cesar salad was okay, though. Oh, but the VIEW: It's BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Yelp
So I actually went to this place that honestly I had been there before. But I didn't have that great of an experience the last few times. It was my wife's birthday, made a reservation. It was a little bit of a rough start because there is travis at 6ish in the afternoon in that area. Plus I had my two girls that were tired and being a little rowdy. But once we got our table and some food everything was better. We ordered some food. Had a appetizer the bigger prime rib steak we ordered some asparagus and some food for the kids. Everything was nice. I do have to say that we did have a few glasses of wine and some draft beer. The sizes of the pores are really small. Other than that everything was great. Just want to say one last thing. Our server was Beatrice and she did a really really nice. Professional job was very pleasant and was surprised to hear that she's actually a bartender instead of a server. She did really well . We'll probably go back in July for my birthday. Looking forward to it!
