The 38 Best Restaurants in Markham, Ontario | Eater

"Uyghurs originated chuan’r, the Chinese equivalent of yakitori and kushiyaki, consisting of morsels of cumin-spiced lamb skewered and roasted over an open flame. It’s since become a popular street item, not just in Xinjiang but all over China and especially in Beijing. Chat Bar claims to be the first restaurant in the GTA to offer it, and the Markham outpost does so in an organically woodsy and inviting space. Think local izakaya but with an emphasis on lamb skewers, including lamb ribs, kidneys, and tripe. There are a number of other proteins, too, including beef heart, chicken skin, pork knuckle, and grilled Fanny Bay oysters with garlic. And fear not vegetarians: There are more than 20 options from which to choose, most notably the meaty-looking grilled cabbage. [$]" - Faiyaz Kara

Google
We visited Chatbar at Unionville as a group of five and had a great time overall. We ordered a variety of dishes including oysters, lamb, eggplant, mushrooms, chives, and other seafood. Everything we tried was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor — definitely a highlight of the experience. The staff were welcoming, polite, and attentive throughout our visit, which added to the positive atmosphere. That said, the dining area could use some improvement. The ventilation wasn’t ideal, and the saloon felt quite hot and a bit outdated in terms of decor. With a little refresh and better air circulation, the experience could easily be a five-star one. Would still recommend it for the food and service.

I had previously tried the North York location of Chatbar and was impressed, so I decided to visit this one — and it did not disappoint. The quality of the food and the service were truly excellent. It was a hot day when we visited, and it felt like the cooling system wasn’t working properly, but honestly, that didn’t take away from the overall experience. The food was just that good. We went with friends and had a great time. I also really like the design and atmosphere of the place — modern and inviting. If you enjoy Chinese BBQ, I definitely recommend giving this spot a try. It’s flavorful, fun, and worth the visit.

Google
First time here for lunch. We came here specifically for the skewers and they didn’t disappoint. We ordered the lamb, chicken, beef and squid. Food was spiced just right. You have the option to modify the levels and we might try that next time Service was excellent and we were well taken care of. Overall we had a nice time.

Google
I have been hearing the hype for a while. it is well deserved. To start off we got the cheesy sweet potato which was tasty and sweet. For skewers, we got lamb, beef, and beef ribs. The beef skewers and ribs were delicious. The lamb could have been better in my opinion. The beef soup was delicious and it was savoury and spicy! The service and atmosphere was great and we were well taken care of.

Google
The food was delicious and well-seasoned, and the service was attentive and friendly. However, the portion sizes were on the smaller side considering the price. It’s easy to end up with a more expensive meal than expected if you're not careful with ordering.

Google
Pretty decent place, funnily enough the skewers were over cooked BUT everything else we had was INCREDIBLE - staff very nice.

Google
Nice cozy atmosphere. The food is cooked on skewers at they have a warming plate at the table. Food tastes good, but is on the salty side and all types of meat are seasoned the same - so not much variety in taste.

Google
Great food, incredible customer service, and a comfortable atmosphere to boot. We ordered a variety of items (some pictures are missing unfortunately because we couldn't wait to dig in!): beef, lamb, pork belly, chicken cartilage and squid tentacle skewers, grilled eel, scallops, half order of the oysters, and grilled mushrooms and eggplant. Our servers, Dana and Alan, were incredibly attentive and helpful. Overall, we had a great time and can't wait to come back to try other things on the menu!

Yelp
I love Chat Bar! It's a great late-night spot for Chinese BBQ, perfect for a casual hangout or a post-date bite on Main Street Unionville. We ordered the Grilled Sausage, Beef, Pork Belly, Lamb Skewers, and Charcoal Grilled Oysters. The skewers were all solid, better than most places I've tried, and I especially enjoyed their spicy seasoning blend that adds great flavour to the BBQ meats. Surprisingly, the grilled sausage was my favourite, it was juicy with a nice snap and a slightly sweet yet savoury taste. The lamb, however, was a bit too gamy for my liking. The Charcoal Grilled Oysters were tasty but felt a bit overpriced for the portion size, garnished with the usual chilli and garlic sauce you find at most BBQ spots. Service was decent, with food arriving fairly quickly (around 15 minutes) after ordering via QR code. The seating is a little tight and the chairs are on the low side, but still comfortable enough. Getting seated right away in the evening is nearly impossible, so I recommend calling ahead or arriving early to secure a spot. The bar's cozy atmosphere enhanced by the dim lighting, wooden decor, and playful wall doodles adds to the overall experience.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday night. The restaurant was quite empty but it still took a long time to get seated (unfortunately). We were a bit confused of the wait. However, we did end up getting seated - maybe about 20 minutes after arriving. We tried out a bunch of dishes including all the skewers, oysters, scallop, potatoes, and more. Honestly, you're classic Chinese skewer spot. Everything was super tasty and satisfying. The service was attentive. They play fun music and dim the lights at late night! Great spot for friends!

Yelp
I have been meaning to check out this restaurant for a while, so a rainy autumn day seemed like a good time. Really nice cosy interiors and appreciated the hot plates that kept our skewers warm throughout the meal. Great selection of skewers on the menu, including interesting items like chicken heart and gizzards. I'm particularly liked the whole grilled mackerel, as they were super crispy and could be eaten head to tail. We rounded up the meal with a squid fried rice and some cheese corn. A fun place to chat with friends.

Yelp
A place to chillax, a place to chat. The ambiance was pretty nice with wooden furniture. As the evening grew late into the night, the music got louder, and the lights got dimmer. So my friends and I talked louder. The food was tasty. Ordered: 1. Pork belly skewers. It was tender enough but not melt in your mouth tender. But tasty. 2. Lamb skewers. My favorite. 3. Cooked oysters with the spices. Man, those oysters were big. They were totally juicy. 4. Sesame tripe. Wow. Love the sesame flavour on the stripes. 5. Marinaded cucumber. They were great when your tongue got heated from the spices lol. 6. Cabbages. Very tasty chinese style salad. The service was very fast. The server switched to English when he found out that we couldn't speak Chinese. He he spoke, I felt like I was listening to the commentary on a horse race track. It was really funny. But what I appreciated was him asking us for our feedback. Great way to improve the business. I would absolutely go back, especially when it's one of the rare restaurants that opens until 2 am.

Yelp
Mid night hangout place located in Unionville Main St Chinese skewers, nice chilling place Service is great and food is yummy

Yelp
I appreciate that Chat Bar is open so late for a spot in Markham. For skewers, this is a great option that is located on Main Street Unionville where you can walk around the area if you're waiting for a table or after eating if you need to move around after all the skewers. Chat Bar is a great spot for a late night snack and drinks, or for a meal. The interior has a very late night feeling, with tables close together and noise travelling easily even with the music. I have been here more than once and I would definitely return again for the pork intestine skewers!

Yelp
Busy location, great variety of food and so delicious! This Chat Bar is in the heart of Mainstreet Unionville in markham so you can expect it to be super busy. We arrived as a group of four at around 5PM for dinner and were seated quickly. The food variety is amazing and flavours are so good! Things do add up quickly if you want a large variety but I think it's pretty worth it. This restaurant is definitely great for sharing with friends rather than dining yourself. The food we got: Edamame 4/5 - Good. It's a nice change from the large amounts of meat we ordered. Beef Skewer 5/5 - One of my favourites. Juicy, delicious and well seasoned. Lamb Skewer 5/5 - If you like lamb, you must get this. Not too gamey and loaded with flavour. Pork Belly 5/5 - Nice and fatty and great for sharing just a piece or two. Cucumber 5/5 - A must get, since this is almost like a palette cleanser. Lotus Root 5/5 - Nice crunch and so delicious. Cabbage 5/5 - Gotta get those greens in. A little bit oily but so good. Red Sausage 5/5 - This is a must. Always juicy, slightly sweet and seasoned so well. Oysters and Clams 5/5 - Nice change from the large amount of meats you're eating. Great seafood flavour and the oysters were super meaty. Overall I love having skewers with friends since you get to have a large variety and taste everything. This location is definitely busy since it's in such a prime popular location.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Fast service. They only accept Canadian debit cards or Canadian cash. If you want to pay with USD, it will be a one to one conversion rate. You check off what you want to order on a piece of paper. My favorite skewer was the beef. The chives were delicious and flavorful. I loved the added salt seasoning on top. We ordered a lot of different skewers the try. My boyfriend enjoyed the charcoal lamb ribs. The chicken skin skewers were good and crunchy. We chose the skewers to be spicy, there wasn't much of a spice to it. Enoki mushroom, eggplant with garlic sauce, beef and cucumber in chili oil with peanut were all extremely good and super flavorful. The eggplant had a nice charred skin with grill flavor. The chicken wills I could have done without, not the most flavorful inside.

Yelp
The food was well seasoned and came pretty fast. You place the order on the QR code that they provide which is really convenient. The service was attentive and really nice. The decor and vibe is also cozy/cute.

Yelp
Decided to stop by Chat Bar for some early appetizers before heading to dinner. As soon as we walked through the door until we walked out, Jade took care of us! Not only was the service great but so was the food! What we got: Grilled Okra Baked Clams with Garlic Grilled Squid Tentacles Grilled Pork Belly Grilled Beef Everything was cooked and seasoned really well! We enjoyed every bite and can understand why the place can have a long line and we can imagine why people come here late at night enjoying drinks and food!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so cute and have decent skewers! I have gotten it for take out before but it definitely wasn't as good as having it there! There were so many variety to choose from, and we also got some garlic clams which was so flavourful. The service was friendly and fast as well! I would definitely go back again!

Yelp
There are probably better skewer places than Chat Bar, but I don't care, I love this place! The service is always friendly and quick. The food is tasty and fun. And the restaurant is in a cute little house on Main Street Unionville (a nice highlight given the high points in the other categories). Definitely part of the fun of Chat Bar is going with a bunch of your friends, grabbing some drinks, and eating delicious snack-sized dishes. Ironically, I've only done this once. Most of the time I'm visiting with my partner and we just go ham over the 5 or 6 dishes we always order. I know the menu is large and diverse, but why fix something that isn't broken? Our perfect order: Chicken Cartilage Skewers (delicious crispy, chewy cartilage) and Lamb Skewers (classic), Eggplant with Garlic Sauce (split eggplant covered in a mountain of garlic, so good), Cheese Corn (self-explanatory), Braised Pork on Rice (pro tip: mix the cheese corn with it), and Cucumber with Garlic (something green to counteract all the meat you're eating).

Yelp
We got there as all the tables had already filled up (there are very few tables). We were placed on the waitlist and it took about 15-20 mins for a table to leave. They don't take reservations so it is first come first serve. The menu is pretty extensive with all sorts of skewers. We stuck with the pretty classic ones like beef, beef short ribs, squid etc. we also shared a beer (which everyone drinks out of the bottle). The spices and flavour is pretty much the same across with cumin and chili. We enjoy the spices and it went super well with beer. Our absolute favourite is the rice cakes! They were chewy and super well done. The service was good and they checked on us often. Note they only take cash or debit! We were out promptly so that they could serve more customers. It was a good time and we plan to be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Came by for late night eats and tried a bunch of skewers. They no longer serve the skewers with the candle lit plate but rather a couple of communal plates. We really liked the beef rib, salted shrimp, lamb and okra skewers. You can also ask for cumin on the side if you want more flavour. I think it could use more char flavour but the stuff we got was cooked pretty well. Service was polite.

V W.

Yelp
First time dinning inside the restaurant ( we seated outside during summer time). Had to wait a bit but not long. Service was good as they came to check on how we were going and if everything was okay. Order using QR code on phone - was able to choose no spicy , less salt option.

Yelp
I came here once and I'm hooked. I'm a fan. I've always loved skewers and finding one that isn't too fatty, not overcooked and flavoured with the right amount of spice isn't the easiest. However, I think this is a top spot. I've tried the lamb skewers, beef skewers, sausages, cucumbers, beef noodles, cabbage, clams and beef heart and these were all so good and delicious. I highly recommend ordering them. As for the ones that I would pass would be the beef short ribs (too chewy/fatty to eat). The service is friendly for a busy place! The server frequently checked in on us and made sure we were taken care of. I waited 10 minutes for a table at 11 pm and was surprised at how busy it was. This place is located in Unionville and is opened until 2 am making it a great late night snack spot! The place gives the feeling of an old wooden house, and was dimly lit. Overall, if you want a good time with great food, this is the place to be!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food! Flavourful for sure! The service was amazing! The atmosphere and ambiance was just so cozy and cute. Definitely going back!

Yelp
Quality & price isn't what it used to be... Came here few nights ago with my family & ordered the classic dishes (lamb/chicken skewers, oyster, scallop, etc.). We enjoyed the oyster & scallops as they were cooked well & served with good portions. The skewers I didn't find as fresh, and most of them were cold/room temperature when it was served. We literally had to try and wait for it to heat up on the plate heated by tea candles... No complaints with their service, the girl who looked after our table was very patient & efficient.
google avatar

Tanveer K.

Yelp
This place is one of the worst places I've ever eaten in my life, I had the lamb skewers and lamb ribs overpriced to the extreme, the place had spider webs it was not clean, and the guy who took our order forgot our order and we were waiting over 45 mins, I'm not sure why they add so much cumin I understand because lamb has a very strong smell to neutralize the smell but all I taste is cumin? Maybe that's what they put but it destroys the taste, overpriced, not a pleasant place to dine in, slow service, not attentive, garbage food, I'm never coming back here
google avatar

Yelp
This place does Chinese BBQ. The BBQ dishes were good, but most of the others weren't. We got a complimentary appetiser of broccoli. It was refreshingly dressed. The staff asked about our spice tolerance - rare for a Chinese place. Beef with soy sauce, cucumber & peanuts was pretty spicy - beyond a pleasant level, though we'd asked for food that was only a bit spicy. Spiciness aside, it was a mala (numbing-spicy) flavour & was so so. It was mostly cucumber & onion. Bbq lamb & Bbq pork belly were both good: tender & tasty. Pork belly was better: thinner so the flavour penetrated better. Bbq eel did not suit the stick format. It was too soft to stay on it. That said it was quite good. Squid fried rice was so so - it didn't have much flavour. It came with kimchi.

Yelp
Amazing food for a midnight snack! Came here on a late Friday night with a few friends and our tummy was satisfied. We ordered a bunch of skewers (lamb, chicken, pulled pork, squid, chicken wing, chicken feet), beef fried rice, veggies (cabbage, eggplant, king oyster mushroom, enoki, corn). The food was nicely seasoned and delicious. Best item on the menu was the king oyster mushroom, eggplant, lamb, squid, pulled pork......actually all of them are rly good. Will be back for some more!!
google avatar

Clire C.

Yelp
The food at Chat Bar always tastes great! I got the beef skewers, chicken skewers, taiwanese sausages, baked shrimp and clams in garlic, squid fried rice and spicy beef noodle soup. The baked shrimp and clams were amazing, they put a generous amount of garlic and the seafood really soaks up the flavour! However, I was disappointed by the squid fried rice. It barely had any squid in it and it was a pretty expensive dish. Overall, not a bad place for skewers and some other small dishes but the prices do add up so make sure you're aware of that when you're ordering! The service here is really good though!
google avatar

Darby C.

Yelp
Went for a scenic walk in Unionville and dropped by this resto bar serving skewers and chinese pub fare. We ordered pork belly, lamb, and beef skewers. The pork belly stole the show crispy juicy and seasoned just right. Make sure you get steam rice or veggies as the skewers might be too salty for some of you. Rating 5/5 Garlic clams had a touch of thai chilis to add a little heat. I found myself drinking the buttery garlic sauce in the container. Must order this again!!! Rating 5/5 Overall great place to hangout with friends or date. Small town vibe in Unionville. Support local! Rating 5/5

Yelp
Came here a while ago during the winter when indoor dining during covid was a thing. Even though it said limited capacity, this place was operating at full capacity with every single table packed and no social distancing inside. It made the experience very unpleasant and I felt rushed the entire night as there was a long queue to get in. In terms of food, we got a little bit of everything and I like how they have the warmer in the middle to keep the skewers warm - beware all of your food comes out at once. However, everything was SO SALTY! They used the same seasoning on every single skewer and thus it made it all salty and they all tasted the same - the only difference then was the texture of each item. I would personally not go back until proper covid measures are put in place.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Overall the food was good. Lamb skewers are done very well. Soft and tender with nice marinated sauce. When seated the service is very good and the food arrives fast. Some of setbacks: The beef ribs were a big miss. There was so little meat on the bone. Service was good when you are seated but we had reservations and had to wait over a hour to be seated. When we were seated we were given such a small table for a group of 7. The food could barely fit on the table. Price is on the higher side. For a male to eat their fill be prepared to pay $60+ for yourself. For big eater like me its more like be prepared to pay $100+.
google avatar

Yelp
I loved eating here! Upon entry the atmosphere is very rustic with lots of wood decor. There's an instant whiff of cumin as well haha. My friend and I ordered lamb, beef, chicken wing, pig intestine and sausage skewers. I really enjoyed the sausage and would highly recommend it! We ordered the kimchi fried rice which was a great call because it helps provide some substance to your meal (unless of course, you only want to eat skewers)! The only veggie we got was the enoki mushroom which was also very delicious. I'll be coming back to try more of the menu. I would recommend coming here if you enjoy cumin as the food can be quite seasoned with it. It's a great spot for both lunch and dinner.

Yelp
My hubby and I had an impromptu date night on a Monday night and it was quiet because we got there around 415pm. There was one other table with two people. The restaurant is small, cozy and clean. Our server, Susan was amazing. She was friendly and knowledgeable. This was our first visit and she was very helpful explaining the menu to us. We ended up ordering the lamb and beef skewers (4 each), charcoal grilled oysters (each order comes in 6), oxtail with tomato soup (this was our least favourite dish) and the grilled eggplant. Everything tasted amazing. It was flavourful and they had a plate that had two tea candles underneath to keep the skewers warm although the meat was warm when it was served initially. We can't wait to go back and try some more dishes this time with our kids. I would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I've been to this location a few times before - location is in a great place on Main Street Unionville. Parking is plentiful and the restaurant is easy to find. Interior design is kind of like a log house and the music was great. I would describe the whole restaurant as a cozy atmosphere. That being said, you can definitely feel the coziness as the restaurant is smaller and space is a bit tighter. I ordered the clams and the lamb skewers. Lamb skewers were flavourful and tasty. Clams were decent. Be careful of the red peppers if you're sensitive to spice! Of the two dishes I ordered for a late night snack, I would probably reorder lamb skewers in the future over the clams. Service was quite nice. When you enter the restaurant, everyone greets you. Our waiter Jade was attentive and made sure our needs were taken care of. Overall, a good restaurant if you're looking for a cozy atmosphere for late night skewers.

Yelp
What an incredible place. If you've been to Unionville, you'll know that the area has many cute and aesthetic restaurants/cafe's but this one is truly a gem. The restaurant has a very cozy but fancy vibe, dimly lit but there's still enough light to see all of the amazing food served here. The staff were super friendly, greeting every customer, both coming in and leaving. The food was definitely super good and worth the price (which, on that note, wasn't too expensive). We ordered skewers, scallops and a beef noodle soup. The skewers were kind of dry on their own, a dipping sauce definitely would have improved them a lot, and the scallops were very fresh, but I'm not a huge scallop fan so I didn't get to enjoy it fully (but my boyfriend said the texture was really good and chewy, and the seasoning really enhanced the flavour). The beef noodle soup was really flavourful and the beef itself wasn't too tough to chew. Honestly I will be going back soon, there are still so many things I want to try and I truly enjoyed the ambience.
google avatar

Joyce N.

Yelp
Cozy restaurant great food selection. The amount of skewers you get was just right and the oysters was really good. We had ordered two but they only had one set but still yummy. The enoki and eggplant was also very tasty too.

Michael K.

Yelp
Excellent food. The service was slow but the waiters were kind. But. It was too. Damn. Loud. Couldn't hear the people at my table; couldn't hear the wait staff. And when we complained they just agreed and shrugged their shoulders: nothing was done. It was unnerving to eat with the music so loud.

Yelp
Along the Main Street of the boutique looking Unionville, this is a small and intimate Chinese BBQ place. There is a lovely wooden interior and cramped seating. Chat bar serves Chuan'r, or Chinese skewers. I've never had Chuan'r before but I was blown away by the experience. The menu may look a little overpriced (and some items were) but the portions were generally larger than expected. You could comfortably order 7-8 dishes for two people. When ordering, you can choose the spice level (warning baseline level is moderately spicy) and the food comes quite quickly due to the excellent service. Food tasted amazing, albeit a little oily. There is a niche drink menu available with some unique drinks. Definitely will return and this is a solid place to go with a group of friends.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
The service here from the moment you step in is remarkable. They greet you from when you step in and before you leave. Jade was our server. She was very attendant and came by to refill our water often and check in on us to make sure our food was good and if we wanted to order more. We ordered lamb skewers, pork neck and also clams and scallops. The lamb skewers were the best. The clams and scallops are very spicy. We had to pick the peppers off. We ordered the clams at a different location and it came with vermicelli but this location it doesn't come with it. Overall very good experience. Good vibes and music. And easy parking in the back of the restaurant
google avatar

Elaine L.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my husband one afternoon, unplanned. We were drawn to the patio on the side of the road and were seated almost immediately. We ordered the braised pork on rice, scallops in shell and clams, all of which were absolutely delicious. My only suggestion is if ordering the 2 seafood dishes, best you enjoy garlic because they are garlic-heavy but so incredibly flavourful. Tip: bring a stick or two of gum or breath mints for afterwards. The service was excellent, as a staff came by regularly to remove empty plates and also dispose of our bucket of shells quite often. Note: this place is most well known for their skewers, but because we had skewers for dinner last night we decided to try something different. All in all, a delicious meal on a beautiful patio!

Yelp
Serivce is wonderful, very attentive and caring staff. I know that they have a few locations within GTA, and I've been to the one in China Town area, the decoration and design of the restaurant is great, full of cultural elements, especially the use of cutlery and menu designs. Food is good obviously, very authentic, especially with the spices. A lot of choices for vegetarians too, the eggplant and enoki mushroom are my personal favourite.
google avatar

Yelp
If you love skewers then you have to try Chat Bar. They have so many different types of groomed grilled skewers that you'll have to come multiple times to try them all! The price at Chat Bar is higher than other skewers restaurants that I've been to, but that's understandable and acceptable because I can definitely taste the difference in quality and flavour. The beef, lamb, and pork are really great quality meats and you get the distinct flavour of each. The meat isn't hard or chewy--it's soft and easy to pull off the skewer. We also got the grilled oysters, which were pricy, but so worth it! The garlic seasoning was great and so juicy and flavourful. Chat Bar is a great place to eat if you're looking for a good night out with friends. There's plenty of parking available in the parking lots along Main Street, Unionville.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Chat Bar is a great social environment to simply catch up with your friends. They have many locations all across Toronto to grab a late night snack or to enjoy some skewers with your friends! The seasoning of the meat is AMAZING as it has a little mala spice. Some of the skewers may be tough but the flavours compensated for the texture. Captured in the picture Lamb skewer Beef skewer Pork belly skewer Beef heart artery Pork intestine with green onion Eggplant with garlic sauce Master Han's rice cake

Yelp
I'll have to start off with: it was a great experience! We went to the Unionville location in Markham, the wait for get a seat was basically an hour. The food came quick and was presented well on a slab! they have a HUGE amount of options to try! We tried a couple things - beef skewers, ribs, cucumber garlic salad, garlic grilled eggplant, beef fried rice, garlic shrimp, charred peppers. the beef fried rice wasn't great only because it was so saucy which didn't give us a fried rice texture, and between the two meats we ordered, the beef skewers were GREAT! However the ribs were my favourite. I feel that the rub for both were the same but didn't sit well with beef ribs!! Side note: the best was the cucumber garlic salad it had such a nice kick and was so refreshing! OVERALL, I would def go back, it was a great meal which was healthy and filling at the same time!

Yelp
Great food and service. Will come back again when in town. Just few note that the opening time is not really what it shows. We got there 10 mins after their open ting time. But the staffs were ready for us. We had to sit at the waiting area for another 10-15 mins until they finish setting up all the tables. They only accept cash or Canadian debit cards, which was very inconvenient. Hope they can change that soon to accept credit cards too.

Yelp
Skewers on skewers on skewers! The food was great! A great place for a friend/family sharing. We ordered the beef, lamb, chicken, pork belly, intestines along with cheese corn, baked clam with garlic, eggplant, ox tail tomato soup, and braised pork on rice. The skewers had good seasoning with some chili pepper, salt and cumin. The meat skewer orders all come in quantities of 4. The pork belly was a bit difficult to eat because it's connected to 2 skewers but that's understandable because of how it's cut. I would say my favorite skewer was the lamb. The gaminess paired with cumin is a classic and delicious pairing! The clams and oyster were my favorite. Fresh, clean, and umami! I would suggest ordering a combination of meat, seafood and vegetables. The meat is delicious but it can get a bit overwhelming and one dimensional because all the meat is seasoned pretty much the same (chili, cumin, salt). Oxtail tomato soup was a blessing as the tomato broth help cut the richness and oiliness of the meat. Braised pork rice was okay, nothing to special. Service was nice but a bit slow at times where I would sometimes have to ask multiple times for things like cups, water, utensils etc. This isn't the first time I've been here and I see they are improving a lot. Give honest feedback at the end because they always ask how the food was and judging by the improvements of the food they are listening to us. Overall, a great Chinese skewer dining experience! Looking forward to try the other skewers on the menu.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to chill with beer. The food was good, atmosphere was great, but the selection of beer was disappointing.

Yelp
Pretty good Chinese skewers. Service was good and food was served relatively quick. Prices are a bit more pricey compared to other Chinese skewer restaurants.

Yelp
This restaurant claims to be the Chinese version of Izakaya and it serves the purpose. We asked for least spiciest for everything as Cantonese are mostly unaccustomed to handle the hot and numbing tastes of northern & central Chinese cuisine. The skewers & pork belly rice were delicious, but the spicy sour noodles were too hot/spicy to handle and the egg plants were totally soaked with oil, these are reason for the 3 stars. Overall with its location in beautiful Unionville, good service, reasonable price, good ambience and cozy decor, it is an ideal place to enjoy a beer, have a casual chat and dinner with friends. We'll go back to sample other foods on menu in future.

Yelp
Great ambience. I love the small and warmth feeling environment. They have a couple of small windows; I think it will be even more warmth during winter looking out the snow. The service was awesome. The food itself is above average. Overall, a great experience

Yelp
I came here with a girlfriend on a Friday evening. The location was great because it was very central and accessible. Ample parking spots behind the restaurant or you could park on the street. The environment and atmosphere of the restaurant was very lively and casual. Groups of people sitting on stools and chatting over food and drinks. It's definitely a great place for those late night snacks. But as for dinner, eating here could add up easily. There are many different types of meat skewers to choose from ranging between $6-9. The skewers were served onto a tabletop stone grill to keep them from turning cold. They also offer grilled seafood, soupy dishes, rice dishes and grilled veggies. The meat skewers were good, flavourful, full of spices. I wouldn't recommend the grilled lamb chops and rice cake skewers because they were chewy and tough. Grilled scallops were tasty. Soupy dishes were wonderful during colder months. At the end of the night, each of us spent $30 without any drinks.

Yelp
Out of all other chat bar locations this one is my favourite. It is located in the lovely main st unionville surrounded by great local businesses. Down side is the tight space it's always packed and almost guaranteed a wait time regardless of reservations or not. Caters to spicy and non spicy eaters. The garlic clams and oysters are a must order! The service is quite good they are pretty quick with addressing your orders and double checking orders to avoid any missed selections. I highly recommend trying this location! Happy skewers :)

Yelp
Been here a few times now, getting takeaway and also dining in. On my most recent visit the service was not amazing, but not too much of a surprise in this day and age (seemed understaffed). The pork belly and lamb skewers are to DIE for and reminds me of the skewers you can find in asian night markets! Seasoned with a blend of cumin, five spice, and pepper, it's super tasty but the downside is that its sprinkled on pretty much everything on the menu! Even the plate of mushrooms I ordered. Although tasty individually, having everything on the table seasoned identically was a bit strange to me. The small heated plate they offer when dining in is supposed to keep your skewers warm, however if you're dining outside, don't expect your food to stay hot for long. That said, don't heaitate if you're craving some skewers.
