Château Big White

Warning, they will place an up-front charge for potential damages on your credit card and it will take days for it to be zeroed out. This is a decidedly customer unfriendly policy that guest should be aware of before booking. ||||Every staff member we dealt with was friendly and tried to be helpful. The bar/restaurant was great, super helpful staff and nice atmosphere. It could benefit from a broader selection of Okanagan wines. ||||The property is dated throughout. I would definitely not call it a "Chateau", more like a lodge. The bedroom in our loft had an old CRT TV in the room, only the living room had a flat screen. ||||The hot tub was decent but not hot enough for our taste, nor for the couple sharing it with us. It was not much better than "warm." ||||Overall impression is that its a good central location and the hotel was probably great in its prime. My son just started at UBCO in Kelowna and this was a trip to get the lay of the land at Big White. However, with the dated interior and other issues, we will probably stay somewhere else next time.

We stayed at the Chateau Big White for a 5 night 4 day ski trip in March 2019. We stayed in Unit 320, which had a mountain view, therefore it was very quiet with little village noise. The unit itself was more spacious than I expected, which was great for the two of us. The kitchen was well equipped and housekeeping kept everything stocked and fresh everyday (coffee, tea, sugar, towels). The housekeeping staff goes above and beyond, making the bed daily and even doing up any dishes that were left in the sink. The location of the hotel is perfect for ski in ski out, better than most in Big White we found. It is also perfectly situated to many amazing restaurants. Out of any ski resort, we have found that Big White has the BEST food! Overall we had a great stay, and would highly recommend the unit and the hotel. Although it is a little dated, we found it comfortable and clean. The murphy bed was a little hard though, but the sectional was very comfy to curl up on after a day on the slopes! We will definitely be back! ||Side note: The hotel is very warm, temperature wise, but we solved that by leaving out window open. No harm for us, but might be coming someone may want to be aware of.

My wife and I took a trip to Big White and decided to stay at the Chateau Big White in mid December 2019. The hotel is conveniently located right beside the Plaza chair lift but you do need to go up a slight hill.||||The room was big enough for the two of us and it had the basics for what we needed. We were there primarily for the skiing but having a few more comforts would have been nice. The room we had did not have a full size fridge so we did have some trouble getting everything we needed stored for our stay. The gas fire place was nice to have but the room was always very warm so we hardly ever turned it on. We found it odd that there were no dressers or drawers to put anything in. Not a big issue, we just lived out of our suitcases. The hotel provided robes which was convenient for when we went to the outdoor hot tub. ||||The hotel provided ski locks that could be used in the hotel ski locker when you store your skis overnight as well as on the mountain during the day. There was also free underground parking.||||Overall we had a great time at the Chateau Big White.

We took a punt on where to stay in Big White. Our daughter is working there but we had to book accommodation before she arrived.|Our punt was very successful!|We booked through Central Reservations which was seemless and very efficient.|Chateau Big White is in the main village and within walking distance of the supermarket, ski school, centre management, ski hire and bars and restaurants. There is also a nice restaurant on the ground floor.|We had a three bedroom apartment that also had a kitchen, lounge room, dining table and two bathrooms.|The drying room is on the first ground floor and very convenient.|I can't fault the accommodation (the bed in the main bedroom was only a double, not a queen).|Central Reservations booked us a taxi to take us to Kelowna and the driver was there five minutes before the scheduled time.|We had a great time and would not hesitate to stay here again.

This place is a bit tatty around the edges but to be honest that is outweighed by all the things that it does get right. ||||My room was a nice end room, which had a comfortable bed and plenty of space to work (I know, on a ski holiday!) and make coffee. There were plenty of good quality toiletries and the room was cleaned to a good standard every day. It was also warm. ||||The hotel is also in a absolutely great position, and is pretty much ski in/ ski out. It's close to some good places to eat, and the restaurant attached to the hotel is quite reasonable. ||||The staff were also great, and eager to help. All my bookings (ski pass etc.) were waiting for me as promised. ||||Just one tip ... the check-in is at the hotel and not in central reservations.

Great location for ski-in ski-out. Poor lighting particularly in the bathroom. Needs to be renovated. Difficult to regulate temperature and hot air rises to bedroom. Hot tub, widely advertised doesn't work and locals say it hasn't worked for years.

Great space for two adults and two teenagers. Some noise at night for sure but not enough to keep me awake after a day of skiing.

The accommodation is ideally located right in the village and is super accessible HOWEVER we had a few complaints I'm afraid (and I have never done this before!) |* The lodge did warn that our room would have some noise issues - we're easy going people and figured with double glazed windows we'd be ok but NO! Be advised, the noise is next level! Our room faced Snow Shoe Sams and it felt like there was a Rave going on in our lounge room - it was horrific! and every night (bar when there was a power cut - blessed relief!) And on staff night (Sunday) it went on until atleast 2am!|* During our stay there was a power outage to the whole village for over 24 hours (a tree had fallen on power lines, so just a natural 'disaster') however there was absolutely NO emergency lighting in Chateau Big White (surely this is illegal?!) The corridors were pitch black - thank heavens for mobile phone torches!|* The Hot Tub was 'temporarily out of service', however according to a couple of people who were long term residents this was permanent! Not good in a ski lodge!|* The Laundry was appalling - you had to buy a $10 card and then load $10 credit onto it - a ridiculous system when you just want to do a quick simple wash before travelling again! Added to this there were only 2 machines, both of which were constantly used by bar/bistro staff for uniform washing!|* There was no Reception operating in the lodge, so really no one to speak to about any worries - just not good enough.|We loved Big White and do realize we chose a cheap accommodation option, but we wont make that mistake again.
