Le Château de Dissay (Dissay, Nouvelle Aquitaine) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"French château hotels don’t get much more picturesque than Château de Dissay, The Originals Collection, which was built by the bishop of Poitiers in the 15th century. It’s surrounded by 15 acres of gardens and parkland, and in its current incarnation contains 33 luxurious rooms and suites, all of which are set within the original château, and combine a historically correct authenticity with just a touch of contemporary interior design. The restaurant crafts a new modern French menu every fortnight from impeccably sourced local produce; the château’s old billiards room now serves as the hotel’s cocktail bar." - Tablet Hotels

We didn’t stay at the hotel or visit the Spa but ate in the restaurant which I have done before. The lunch menu was very odd and neither main courses sounded very appealing and indeed were not appealing when they arrived. Mine was some kind of croquette supposedly of pork but could have been anything. The pea puree accompaniment was OK. The desert was ok but the startes not up to much either

Newly settled in the region, my wife and I were looking for a romantic and exotic place, without the children, to spend an exceptional moment of love. When we arrived in Dissay, time seemed to stand still once we passed through the gates of the Château de Dissay, transporting us from the 21st century to the 15th century. However, make no mistake, the establishment has preserved the charm of the 15th century while offering rooms with refined decoration, elegantly combining the charm of the old with modernity. Upon our arrival, we were warmly and professionally welcomed by Carole, the Cinderella of the place.|Upon waking, after spending a night in a five-star-worthy bed, what a delight it was to discover a breathtaking view of the splendid property. A true haven of peace that reflects the refinement of our hosts. The whole experience shows that beauty is not where you expect it to be, but that this place has the gift of surprising and seducing us simultaneously.|The gourmet restaurant, for its part, deserves praise. We thank the chef as well as the warm and professional teams for their attentiveness. The cuisine, of great finesse, offers a menu and dishes worthy of a starred establishment. The dishes highlight homemade products, offering unique aromas and instinctive inspirations evoking flavors from elsewhere. I particularly recommend the desserts, not only for their exquisite taste but also for their presentation, worthy of a masterpiece painting.|And if you are as lucky as we were, you will meet the owner of the place, a man who, although he does not have a title, certainly has the demeanor of a prince and a king.|Our congratulations to our hosts.|Natacha and Laurent HOUGUENADE.

We had an unforgettable Christmas holiday at Château de Dissay. Perfectly located near Poitiers and just 10 minutes from Futuroscope, the château offers spacious rooms with comfortable beds. The staff was outstanding—warm, attentive, and truly kid-friendly, with a flexible children’s menu and great attention to detail for all guests. The pool and spa were fantastic, and the massages were top-notch—a perfect way to relax for the whole family. The food was exceptional, with two dining options: a Michelin-worthy gastronomic menu with an excellent wine list and a bistro menu offering equally delicious dishes. Highly recommended for a relaxing and luxurious family getaway!

The le Château de Dissay Poitiers is an epic castle hotel that is set in extensive grounds. The room is quite large and stately, though dated. The views from the window onto the grounds and dry moat is fantastic. The public rooms of the hotel are superb and the large internal courtyard is excellent. The hotel is close to Poitiers making for a great out of town stay, All in all, an interesting chateau hotel well worth a stay.

A Disastrous Celebration at Chateau Dissay My recent experience at Chateau Dissay was nothing short of disastrous. We had booked the venue for a special celebration, confirming our reservation by phone a week prior. Yet, upon arrival, the staff couldn't locate our booking. This was an incredibly disappointing start to the evening. Things went from bad to worse when we were seated in the restaurant. We had to place our food order twice, and then, to our surprise, the canapés arrived without any offer of an aperitif. This is a basic upselling technique in hospitality that seemed to be completely overlooked. The service continued to be abysmal. I ordered a bottle of wine, only to have the food arrive first. Fifteen minutes later, the waiter informed me that the wine was out of stock. This happened not just once, but three times with three different wine selections. Each time, we waited 15 minutes before being told the wine was unavailable. Finally, the waiter brought a completely different wine, far more expensive than our original choice. After an hour of waiting, with no wine and only the starter on the table, we decided to leave. We were incredibly disappointed and upset. I understand that wine can sometimes be out of stock, but three bottles in a single week suggests a serious lack of stock management. As an F&B manager in a 5-star hotel myself, I expect a certain level of quality and attention to detail, especially at the price point Chateau Dissay commands. To make matters worse, we were left scrambling to find an alternative place to eat at almost 9:00 PM. This was completely unacceptable. Overall, Chateau Dissay failed to deliver a basic level of service and left us with a ruined celebration. I would strongly advise against dining at this establishment.

I can only speak of my experience at the spa. I booked a massage and an admission to the facilities, which include a beautiful pool, a sauna, and a steam bath. The massage was outstanding and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The place itself, a gorgeous, renovated 15th-century castle, is absolutely dreamy.

We stayed here as a stop over on our return journey to the UK. The chateau and location is absolutely stunning. Welcome extremely good and staff very helpful. We had a panoramic room which was very spacious and had lots of original features. However, there were no hand towels, only bath towels and very limited lighting. There was a light over the door, two small reading lamps for the bed and a small downlight over the sink in the bathroom. Access to the room was interesting via a spiral staircase! Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, well cooked and well presented wth a good wine selection. Service was attentive without being overbearing.||Breakfast was a bit disappointing. It was clear from the room that only two rooms were occupied as only two tables were laid. Service was excellent but the coffee was a bit disappointing, there was no milk for cereal (although we didn't want any), no water in the boiler for cooking boiled eggs and only one type of jam (albeit lots of it!). There was a good selection of breads ham and cheese though along with a choice of fruit juices.

Poor room - hadn’t been cleaned properly. There wasn’t even a shower head. The restaurant was closed as there was a wedding taking place. Spa €30 per person per day. My husband and I took a walk through the chateaux with our 2 year old son to figure out where we could go (not outside either as the wedding reception and pics were happening) only to be confronted by the aggressive owner. He threw all of the room keys at us and told us to look in every hotel bedroom seeing as we were so nosy. I told him we wouldn’t be spoken to like that and wouldn’t be staying. I demanded a refund and refused to move from the reception desk until I was given my money back. He was so aggressive with me (in front of my baby) and ended up squaring up to me, nose to nose in the courtyard in front of all of the wedding guests. This man is dangerous. I felt physically threatened. It was ridiculous.
