"This castle dates back to the 1700s, which explains its unusual Italianate style, and only became a hotel in 2017, after three centuries as a private estate. Its setting, just to the north of Aix-en-Provence, endears it to wine lovers, as does the Fonscolombe winery itself, which produces organic reds, whites, and rosés. But the key to its appeal is that it’s quite simply the most luxurious hotel around." - Mark Fedeli

Despite a fantastic restoration, and grounds this is not a properly sophisticated |Relais and Chateau.||We had a fantastic room and stayed 3 nights. Unfortunately 2 out of 3 nights, there was no turn down service at all. In this case, it would have meant, closing shutters and drapes, checking bed and towels. Why wasn't this provided? Our guess would be either: understaffed or missing management.||Same is true of the breakfast. Price- steep. Food-- below average. Service-- totally missing. For example: It took multiple people to get us an Americano coffee and an espresso, with a 20 min. wait for this.||After several assurances, that my gluten free needs would be accommodated, every day (3 for 3) I waited 20-45 min. for a gluten free roll. (I was told last day, sorry they couldn't find it!) (Given rock hard overly toasted bread instead).||Scrambled eggs at the buffet were horrible, and when we asked, they were replaced with a new batch, but really? Where is the supervision? And at this price?||Dinners-- were better. Service was very good, and we complimented the chef and the pastry chef.........Ate there 2 nights, and the third night went to the nearby village of Lourmarin, and dined at Da Ora (Italian) and it was great!||Disappointed that they don't have sufficient staff and good management.

I can not say enough great things about our stay at Chateau de Fonscolombe. The grounds there are beautiful and there is almost no reason to leave the property. ||From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. The first person we met, Laetitia, greeted us warmly and showed us around the grounds. When our room was ready they escorted us to it and the room and the view was just amazing. During our stay Laetitia and Leay gave us great suggestions about what to do and where to go. We had to find a doctor because of a sinus infection. They told us where to go and were very helpful while we were there because we were not at our best. We ate 3 times at Le Temps Suspendu and the food was always exceptional especially the veal chop for two. The buffet breakfast was very good. We don't know if we will ever be back to Provence but if we do we will stay at Chateau de Fonscolombe.

This Château is absolutely stunning. The location is very secluded and makes you feel like you are off the grid and at a retreat. Very quiet and also relaxing when you hear nature all day and night. The staff upon welcoming you are so nice and thoughtful and thorough about all you need to know about this beautiful hidden gem. Upon our arrival We were given the history of the castle and It made our stay even more meaningful. We booked one of the deluxe suites and it was absolutely amazing. The beautiful touches, hand written notes and the stand alone tub made me feel like I was in heaven. During our stay we also dined at the restaurant onsite where we got meet Ben the restaurant and his customer service was excellent. All the bites we ordered tasted fantastic including our drinks. Julie our host was so Nice and wonderful personality. My first Time in France and I’m so lucky to have experienced this place. I can’t wait to Go back and Rome the grounds again for some self reflection and peace.

My family just just completed a wondeful stay at Chateau de Fonscolombe. The chateau is a lovely respite in the Provence countryside. The grounds are serene and well-kept, our room was elegantly simple, and the staff was warm and welcoming - especially towards my two sons (6 and 8).||Not only is the chateau a great place to stay, it is a perfect launching pad for trips to sites in the region. There are so many wonderful places within a 15-60 minute drive from the hotel. We toured Louvmarin, Gordes, and Cassis, shopped in Aix-en-Provence, and made lavender soap at a farm right down the road. The concierge, Camille, was wonderful - she helped us plan activities for each day of our stay.||When you visit here, be sure to say hello to the two resident donkeys - Lemon and Lupio, and find the hidden speakeasy bar, which is under the back terrace.

Absolutely incredible place to stay. Accommodations, staff, food, grounds, amenities, all five stars. I wish I could give them a 4.5 for location, but I have to just ever so slightly ding them because it’s hard to leave the property without a car in order to get to places like Aix and Marseille.

The staff at Château de Fonscolombe helped me surprise propose to my girlfriend and I could not be more grateful. Every detail of this property, from the grounds to the meals, is impeccable and worth a stay. The staff especially is a true delight and made it a perfect visit. We are counting down the days until we can go back!

As a frequent traveller that have experienced impeccable luxury hotel service and hospitality around the globe, we felt the one we have here is not quite there yet with flaws…||Few things could have been improved:|1. We were put in a room on the 1st floor facing guest car parking and to the West which was baking hot at the time of checking in…we asked if there is another room to switch. We waited for an hour or so to be informed that the hotel is full and nothing they can do except putting a fan in our room. Not to mention we have to proactively follow up 3 times to get the response…it is okay to not have a room, but you don’t let your guest to wait that long for such result.||2. Wishing to have a dinner at their restaurant but were told that the booking of outdoor seating area is full and we have to return the table by 9pm, I told the staff we will have a think about it (there is no need to rush, as we can always sit indoor), and the staff’s response was fairly cold and unpleasant….||3. No staff attends to the swimming pool, not enough towel to use and no one cleaning the table and sun beds at the time we went by||4.Ordered their chateaux wine at the room at $40 euros as they don’t have the wine we wanted, ending up charging us the wine we wanted upon checking out…||Those flaws are small but not unimportant, the chateaux is nice, breakfast is good. But for the price we pay for a night ( $360 euros), we would not expect this kind of careless mistakes and level of hospitality, there are certainly improvements required.

The hotel is great and the rooms are really lovely. But: I am only giving 2 stars for the bad dining experience at the hotel’s bistro. 160€ for a dinner, leaving the restaurant hungry. I don’t eat meat, which I understand is still a strange habit for the French, but should it really be so strange for the restaurant of a 5 star hotel? When we got to the bistro for dinner, I asked about vegetarian options. The young and clearly inexperienced waiter didn’t know what to say and stuttered that I could eat a starter and also “there is desert”. Seriously?? As it seemed clear that they weren’t going to make any effort, I went for 2 cold starters, one replacing a main course. I asked for the second starter to be served warm instead of cold, to have at least the resemblance of a dinner. It was a tomato tart so not a weird request to heat it up. This was done only very reluctantly and presented to me as an “exception”. When I shared my feedback leaving the restaurant, we were reminded that we could have gone to the 200€ per person fine dining restaurant next door where they offer a vegetarian option (which we had considered but we weren’t in the mood for a 3h fine dining experience). I felt very bad about this dinner. We paid 160€ (!!!!) - for this price I expect to not leave a restaurant hungry, even as a vegetarian, and at the minimum to be served by experienced staff. I’ve seen a few 5 star hotels and their restaurants and I’ve never eaten so badly. Please tell me, what is so hard about adding a vegetarian option? Or at least have one in the back hand in case a unicorn like me would like to have dinner? I’d have been happy with an improvised plate of pasta or a salad. It can’t be that hard! The second night, my husband went to the restaurant alone (it is the only option unless you want to drive) and I had cookies in the hotel room for dinner. I still can’t believe this really happened. We won’t be back.
