Château de Maintenon

Absolutely stunning picture pretty Chateau. The gardens are amazing and very well tended. The bedding plants were still flowering and the grass even had stripes!! You can get some great photos of the viaduct from the gardens and learn just how big this structure was when it was first built. It was partly restored but abandoned as it was just too expensive. Inside is just as amazing. Some beautiful rooms to see and again information readily available to read on each room in French and English. It seems that the previous owners as and when they had it changed things to make them even more elaborate. We spent a good 2 1/2 hours slowly walking everywhere and taking the sights in. 100% recommend as one of the prettiest Chateau I have visited. Great value too at 8.50E. Wished I had taken a picnic!!

Highly recommended! Our guide was amazing, I am not a history-enthusiast but thanks to our guide, I was attracted to the castle’s history. Our guide presented the garden and each room with unique stories, it was fun but still very educating. She made this a vivid on sequence series. We are a group of about 20 people, with a wide age range and very different levels of interest and knowledge in history. However, her professional yet engaging explanations make everyone full of praise. you just feel sorry if you don’t leave any tips for them after the tour ! ( yes this kind level of greatness!!!)

Château de Maintenon – A Hidden Gem Visiting the Château de Maintenon was a wonderful experience. The château is beautifully preserved, with elegant rooms that reflect its royal past and connection to Madame de Maintenon. The gardens are stunning, with a peaceful view of the grand aqueduct. There are picnic tables and spots by the water where you can enjoy a coffee, tea, or a sandwich—perfect for a relaxing break. Just an hour from Paris, it’s an ideal getaway for history and architecture lovers. Highly recommended!

A very nice surprise this chateau. Quite small in size but very nice to visit and the view over the gardens is so romantic. We enjoyed the stroll to the Roman aqueduct accompanied by the perfume of the blooming linden - such a nice experience ! I highly recommend the visit here ❤️

Perfect for a day trip (we live in Hauts-de-Seine), this charming castle is not too big with a very lovely garden and woods at the back. The massive and magnificent aqueduct was a plus 😍 Highly recommended!

We drove from the Netherlands on holiday to visit this castle, unfortunately we were not allowed in with our two small, very well trained dogs. We would have loved to walk the gardens, it's such a pity the French do not welcome dogs in their culture, yet children are welcome. The place looks very beautiful from the outside.

The chateau is very beautiful as well as the gardens. It is really worth a one day excursion if you are close. Recommended.

Perfect, not crowded at all. Even on an August Saturday. Although, no public transportation in the area so it is a 20min walk from the train station.
