Le Château de Mirwart (Mirwart, Wallonia) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For sheer picturesque drama, the Château de Mirwart, built on a shelf of rock above the river Lomme, is up there with any of them. It traces its earliest history back well over a thousand years, and in its current incarnation it’s more than a landmark — it’s a boutique-style luxury hotel whose 20 rooms and suites are as contemporary as their surroundings are historic. Many bear traces of the château’s architecture, especially the two-bedroom tower suite, with its stone walls and timbered ceilings. The restaurant is a particular highlight." - Tablet Hotels

My recent visit to Chateau de Mirwart for a wedding left me utterly disappointed. Despite the venue's idyllic setting and the grandeur of the building, the staff failed to meet even the most basic standards of hospitality. It is like they deliberately gathered some of the most unhelpful individuals society could offer, like a dysfunctional version of the Avengers. It felt as if we were a burden to them, just by being there. Asking for basic necessities like extra toilet paper, water, or simply requesting help because we had no hot water was always met with sighs. Responses such as "we don't do that, the cleaning staff does" or "we'll help, but not now" are truly disgraceful, especially considering the price we paid. We had booked the Garden Balcony Suite, expecting luxury service commensurate with the higher price, but even the basics were beyond their capabilities. Initially, the rooms seem charming, but upon closer inspection, several issues emerge. The lack of natural light from the small windows creates a dim and potentially unsafe atmosphere, especially alongside the steep spiral staircase. Getting ready in a dark bathroom is also not ideal as a wedding guest. Additionally, cobwebs and dust are everywhere, the minibar is empty, no card for the roomservice, electrical outlets are inconveniently placed,… The breakfast, which cost an additional 30 euros, was not included in the already steep room price. For that amount, we expected a deluxe breakfast, but it was very basic and the buffet was almost empty at the time we got there. The tables were not set, and they refused to do it on the spot for us, so we were forced to sit outside in the wind. The overall experience was so poor that it seemed like it was their first attempt at hosting breakfast. Nothing was ready despite us having pre-selected a time slot to ensure they had enough time to prepare everything. We found out later that there were à la carte options, but without any explanation or visible menu on the table, we had no way of knowing. Given the cost, the breakfast experience was also extremely disappointing and not worth the money. The list goes on: We were refused lunch service on a Sunday, despite arriving well within the allotted time. This left us hungry and confined to our room, mix-ups during check-in that made the check-out process equally frustrating, and a significant language barrier regardless of the language we spoke,…. Throughout the entire weekend, frustration was our constant companion, courtesy of the hotel's incompetence. Let’s just say, I wouldn't revisit this place and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

A Disappointing Stay Amidst High Hopes We were filled with excitement for our weekend stay at the chateau, but our experience fell drastically short of expectations. Our encounter started on a negative note, where the receptionist was extremely rude during our inquiry about the on-site dining options, to the point of raising his voice and telling us to 'get out.' With two expectant mothers in our group, a lack of basic amenities like hot water further ruined our stay. Our discomfort escalated when we discovered cockroaches in our room—a clear lapse in cleanliness and hygiene. Despite prior communication, our dietary preferences were completely disregarded, which left us scrambling for suitable meal alternatives. This was a far cry from the hospitable and accommodating experience we were anticipating. Unfortunately, based on our awful stay, I find it hard to recommend this chateau for a serene and enjoyable weekend getaway. Extremely Upsetting!!

The perfect Christmas 2022! Amazing experience from the pick up by horse & carriage from the parking (electric charging free of charge). We stayed in the Garden Deluxe Suite with our small doggy. The effort on styling is accurate and fine taste of materials feels warm and authentic. The food by Chef Nick was amazing, vegetarian delight, overall the staff has great sense of hospitality and makes you feel away from home. The pairing wines are just very good, breakfast on point and bar caters everyone. Feel like a prince & princess in this great castle on top of the mountains with amazing views, hiking in the nature is good option to feel grounded. Love from Amsterdam!

I photographed the lovely wedding of Margot & Nicolas here. Renovations were still ongoing, but the location was spectacular already. The building, the rooms, the view - super photogenic. Lots of beautiful colours in fall in the surroundings, too - sneaking out for a bit for some photos is 100% worth it.

As Michelin should say : worth a detour. Extremely tasteful redecorated castle, with care and love up to the standards of today's comfort and fine eye for detail. The château is located in the tranquil settings of the woods of Saint-Hubert. Magnificent food at an reasonable price, absolutely worth a Michelin star. If you're in the neighborhood, you certainly have to go there for lunch or dinner, and it's definitely worth a special journey if you enjoy a luxurious overnight stay. Congratulations to the owners of Château de Mirwart.

Such a great place, a real pleasure to had the chance to stay there. A good dining experience is about more than food and service. People eat with their eyes, so the way a meal looks is just as important as how good it tastes.……So just enjoy it !

This may be a beautiful hotel, but their customer service is 1-star. We had booked some rooms for a night for a business event and called to enquire about additional services. Most of the time, the reception did not pick up. When we eventually spoke to the hotel, they told us they would get back to us but forgot about our request (?!). We called again multiple times and it took days to get a response. In the end, we cancelled out of pure frustration.

Hotel was not able to accommodate us in the junior suite booked despite prior paiement. Suggested us a lower quality room for same price or to leave. Awful behaviour.
