"Upstream from Amboise, on the south bank of the Loire, this medieval castle with two massive towers, remodelled during the Renaissance, cannot fail but catch the eye. The edifice peacefully presides over vast formal grounds and staunchly upholds the Loire’s gracious art de vivre. The orangery, part of which is built into the rocky hillside, is the epitome of elegant, and on sunny days it is a treat to sit on the pleasant terrace overlooking the gardens. Chef Arnaud Philippon's cuisine flirts with the zeitgeist: pressed young goat and foie gras, pied bleu mushrooms, wild garlic and mango and cocoa paste; razor clams, white asparagus and Vouvray wine with primrose roots; hot soufflé with Touraine blackcurrants. Delicate craftsmanship, balanced flavours, locally sourced ingredients: the good life at its best." - Michelin Inspector

Château de Pray (Amboise, Pays de la Loire) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"With medieval roots and a 17th-century structure the fairy-tale Château de Pray is rich in atmosphere; 14 rooms and one suite occupy the original building, with four more loft-equipped rooms in the slightly more modern Renaissance Pavilion. The estate itself comprises several acres of Loire Valley parkland, and the surrounding area encompasses any number of castles and wineries. Chef Arnaud Philippon oversees the Michelin-starred restaurant, whose dining room, carved into the stone hillside, is in the style locally referred to as “troglodyte” — trust us when we say it’s quite a bit more elegant than it sounds." - Tablet Hotels

Stayed 4 nights in September. It was wonderful. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of the Loire Valley with many attractions only a short distance away. The chateau was clean, quaint, and the staff was very helpful. Highly recommend experiencing the on-site Michelin chef dinner.

During our family holiday in France, we stopped at Château de Pray — and it turned out to be a truly remarkable experience. Nestled close to the Loire River, the château is a wonderful stopover for both dinner and an overnight stay.|Although the main attraction — its renowned restaurant — happened to be closed on the day of our visit, we enjoyed a delightful petit dîner on the terrace overlooking the park, which was simply magical. The rooms are decorated in authentic château style, spotlessly clean, and equipped with every comfort one could need.|The hotel is very welcoming to children, which made our stay even more enjoyable. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone traveling through the Loire Valley. A wonderful experience — and we will certainly return!

I am writing this review on behalf of my parents, who stayed at this hotel. This was the most disappointing and shocking hotel experience of their lives, and for a so-called 4-star hotel, it is a complete disgrace. No internet — and absolutely no warning beforehand. When my parents asked about it, the staff told them it was their problem to check. Their “solution”? Come back in the middle of the day, at 2pm, to see if there was internet, and then change rooms themselves. Completely unhelpful and utterly unprofessional. Reception does not operate past 11pm, leaving guests completely unsupported in case of an emergency. My mum, concerned about her health, asked for an emergency contact number. The receptionist, Lucy, responded dismissively with “And you have some problems?” and refused to provide any help. My parents were left feeling unsafe and anxious. The staff were not welcoming at all. Every issue was treated as if it were my parents’ problem, not the hotel’s. They were unwilling to assist with basic questions or help resolve problems. The room didn’t even include basic toiletries — no shampoo, no conditioner, no shower gel — only a single bar of soap. For almost/around £300 per night, this is far below any reasonable 4-star standard. The chef wasn’t working that day, so no food was available. How a 4-star hotel can simply shut down its kitchen is beyond comprehension. Additionally, my parents had to carry their own luggage, which is laughable at a hotel claiming 4 stars. I’m from London, and my parents are regular visitors to France. This is the first time they have ever encountered such behaviour. The service, standards, and staff attitude were shocking. Even budget hotels they have stayed in provide far more professionalism, safety, and comfort. Avoid at all costs.

The chateaux is amazing, the staff are very nice. Breakfast is good. The pool was amazing. The bed and room were extremely comfortable and we slept with the window open for a cool breeze all the way till morning.

Decided to stay in a chateau, this looked nice, felt pampered and has a lovely pool. This was a 8 minute taxi from the train station, we did walk to Amboise one day (and taxi back that night). Reception was very helpful, staff lovely, hotel was quiet and clean, breakfast buffet average, rooms beautiful but air conditioning could use a boost. We didn't eat in their restaurant, but lots of options in Amboise, again a 12 euro taxi away or a walk.

We loved this gorgeous property, and especially appreciated the pool in the afternoons. The family room in the chateau was perfect for 2 adults and 2 tweens, who felt like princesses in their own little room. But. My husband hit his head multiple times in the little door to the kids room!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Château de Pray, a peaceful and charming 800-year-old manor house just on the outskirts of Amboise, in the heart of the Loire Valley. The property beautifully maintains the character and authentic furnishings of the original manor while offering modern comforts.||||The grounds are lovely, with terraced gardens that lead down to a secluded swimming pool—we didn’t have time to enjoy it, but it looked like a perfect spot to relax. Our breakfast was full and delicious, served in a beautiful dining room with views over the gardens.||||Although we didn’t have the opportunity to dine at the on-site Michelin-starred restaurant, it’s a wonderful option for guests looking for a gourmet experience.||||The staff were exceptionally kind and attentive, even going out of their way to initiate the return of an iPad I had accidentally left behind.||||Château de Pray offers a welcome retreat from the bustle of nearby Amboise while still being just a short drive away. A lovely and tranquil place to stay in the Loire Valley.||||

We stayed in this hotel , two couples. We also ate in the amazing restaurant. The hotel is very good, rooms are comfy, only problems, no elevetor and the lack of a small fridge in the room. The restaurant I have no words, an experience to die for. Highly recommend

Yelp
We've been traveling in France for 35 days, and this is the best French restaurant yet. From the ambiance, service and food. Top notch. I had the Veal and my wife had the fish of of the day , which was Sea Bass. Not only were they delicious, they were artistically presented. Every detail of service was meticulously done. From changing out the serving ware to appointed glassware for our wine. The desserts were fantastic too. If you're into this kind of dining, it's the best we've had. We have another week to go, so we might have another chance to beat this experience out

Yelp
Probably the fanciest restaurant in Amboise. We made reservations for 9 PM which was too late to have the full tasting menu, bummer. So we decided for a smaller set menu. The food was good but the flavors were not exceptional. Considering the limited options in Amboise, I don't think you can go wrong by dining here. The service is great. Most speak English and it is definitely full service. It is a bit pricy but it is expected for this type of food and level of service. Make reservations.

Yelp
This meal changed my life. It embodied everything about French cuisine that I had read prior to my arrival. The grounds are small but beautiful. A short drive from Amboise along the Loire River Valley brought us to the historic and amazingly kept grounds. We entered the Chateau and enjoyed the tapestries during our short wait. We had reservations but arrived somewhat early. We all had a cocktail prior to the meal and my Martini Rouge was simple yet perfectly crafted. The temperature of the cocktail was accurate and the ingredients hand selected. We started with a complimentary Carmelized Tomato, Duck and Salmon pastry. It was heavenly. We then shared an appetizer sampler and began our journey. For entrees, we had Duck, Pigeon and Beef. We finished the meal with a Soufle and Pear Cake. From start to finish, the staff completely owned the experience. My recommendation is that you subject yourself to their every preference. They dictated the pace of the meal (3 1/2 hours), every bottle of wine, entree, dessert and the ambience.

Yelp
Made a reservation on La Fourchette for 13h30. La Fourchette has a policy that if you arrive within a 15 minute window your table will remain reserved. We arrived at 13h38 and the chef wanted to leave early, so the refused us the menu we had reserved and made us order only a main a la carte, full price. After complaining, the manager said he would remove something from our bill, when we paid nothing was removed. When we asked his staff they said the item that would have been removed was a tea at the end which we didn't take. The food is good, but in terms of hospitality this is far from being a Michelin star restaurant. I hope this improves.

Yelp
Beautiful setup in the heart of Loire valley. the bedroom was big, comfy. We had dinner at the restaurant, it was a bit disappointing, especially for the price. The food was good, however for that amount (around 220 EUR for 2), we were expecting better. The special was available only till 9pm I think, and we had a reservation for 9:15pm, so we couldn't order it. That participated to the disappointment, too.
