"Set deep in the Catalan Pyrenees, this refined restaurant in a romantic hotel serves flavoursome cuisine inspired by the surrounding countryside and locally picked produce: the local version of chimichurri sauce with mountain herbs exudes aromas of wild dill and burnet flowers. To be enjoyed on the terrace or in front of the picture windows, as you contemplate the snow-capped summit of Mount Canigou in the distance." - Michelin Inspector

It's located in a thermal village, surrounded by beautiful nature and small rural villages. The castle rooms, the garden areas and the restaurant are beautifully arranged. Old great trees and modern sculptures share the garden. Views to the valley and the Canigó mountain. Very quiet at night, the rooms are well isolated. We specially liked the breakfast at the wooden dasha overlooking the forest. Dinner at Oliba restaurant offered a premium experience. Staff were excellent all the way.

There are no complaints about the hotel except for it should be classified at 4*. There is a lack of amenities and srrvices to qualify as a 5*. Also the breakfast doesn't live up to that.|Staff was very friendly, the location is picturesque and the building and rooms beautiful.

The Chateau de Riell was a wonderful experience on our trip to the Pyrenees. Our room was lovely, calming and charming (“Bambou”), the housekeeping staff attentive in a good way, and the views from the room were spectacular. The breakfasts were incredible and I’m picky! Don’t skip the croissant! It’s vacation! (Several kinds of yogurt— sheep’s milk, cow and goat, for instance, incredible baked pastries, fresh fruits, eggs to order, I can’t possibly do it justice but you get the idea). But what really distinguished this hotel from any other we’ve stayed in was the exceptional staff. The manager in particular went out of his way to help us; in fact all of the staff really went above and beyond. (My coffee spill in the morning on my white jacket was addressed by someone saying “We’ll take care of it, you’ll have it back tomorrow”— and they did). We felt that every need was met cheerfully and immediately. The grounds are lovely. After each day of hiking, it was wonderful to return to. We did sign up for the thermal baths in the related hotel— I’d highly recommend that as well, especially on your last day.

Well worth the trip to stay in this amazing hotel. Our two-night stay was magical, and when we think of this trip in the future, we’ll remember listening to the birds and the river while sitting on the terrace as if it were a dream. We sat by the pool, adventured around the area, relaxed in our plush room. It was dreamy and the staff anticipated our every need. Hope to return sooner rather than later!

This was our honeymoon straight after our wedding and it didn’t disappoint! We absolutely loved our room and of course the chateau itself and the surroundings and nature were also stunning. The staff were super friendly, efficient and helpful and we were particularly grateful for Henry coming to collect us from the nearby town when we got stranded without a taxi on the day of our arrival. Both restaurants served really great food and wine and the staff were brilliant there too. Overall, we had an amazing stay and are very glad that we chose this hotel as the place for our honeymoon.

Absolutely incredible experience. Went for my partner's birthday and it was our first time in french pyraneese. Hotel and its staff are truly amazing and accommodating. Great hikes, great food. One of most favourite places we've visited in the world. Special.

Pre-Viking Cruise from Barcelona in late May we rented a car and drove, first to Andorra La Vella and from there to Chateau de Riell. If you have ever dreamed of spending the night in a real French chateau, this is it. The chateau and the grounds are beautiful and immaculate, with a distinct feeling that you are reliving history. The accomodations are splendid. We truly enjoyed the "Chef's Table" dinner experience at the Oliba restaurant. Breakfast was sumptuous. The surrounding area is beautiful - breathtaking, even. We did not avail ourselves of the spa, but we had a wonderful afternoon visit to Villafranche-de-Conflent. We will be back and we highly recommend a visit to the Chateau!!

Yelp
Fantastic stay at Chateau de Riell. The service is top notch and the food is really good. Great wine selection and a 5min walk there's a restaurant from the Michelin guide. Rooms are amazing, upgrade to stay in the big house. Our room had a shower which leaked onto the bathroom floor every time we showered. This was solved by bringing new towels every single time we had a shower. Lots of cats around the beautiful castle. If you tip Marcel who's worked here for 22 years well he might give you a tour down the old catacombs which also acted as a nightclub in the -70s. The garden is amazing and everywhere you hear birds chirping, winds blowing through the trees or water pouring from the "bains thermales". There are two pools, one big by the garden and one on the top floor which I think is a little heated and has an beautiful view of the surroundings. The booked a table for us when we arrived in the small restaurant 5 min away, but it was closed. To compensate the owner served us free cocktails. And since it was our honeymoon they had a complementary bottle of champagne in our room upon our arrival. In the evening they close the shutters and ready your bed. At breakfast they have fresh carrot, mint, mango smoothie. Will definitely come here again.
