Le Château de Riell

This is an absolutely charming hotel!. It feels very old school French but also very friendly and the staff are super keen to please. It's a bit quirky - but like out of a classic 1950s movie. The building itself is a chateau style, probably Victorian. Big rooms. It's not "modern" or "boutique"- something else and with loads of character. Our room had a super comfy super king bed and very glamorous bathroom. Despite being "traditional" it has a very nice little rooftop pool!

We booked Le Château de Riell because their website stated that it had a spa. When we arrived, we were told the spa is not part of the hotel and that it was already fully booked for Saturday. This is misleading and unfair, it should have been clearly stated on the website before booking. A true 5-star hotel that advertises a spa as part of its offering should make every effort to accommodate guests, or at the very least, try to offer compensation. Even something as simple as a late checkout, which we requested , was refused. Even worse, we made a 100 km detour on our way to Barcelona just to stay at this hotel. The reception staff spoke very poor English, which is unacceptable for a property that presents itself as part of an international chain. We stayed only one night and will never return. We also visited the hotel’s restaurant, Oliba. The only positives were the service and the pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing , portions were tiny, and although fish was listed as part of the menu, it was never served. You may receive ten plates, but they are so small that together they wouldn’t even make up a single normal portion. Considering this, the price was extremely high for the quality and quantity offered. We will not be coming back here. Overall, this experience felt like false advertising, poor management, and service far below any 5-star standard.

My husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary by spending a night at Chateau Riell. We had indicated this to the establishment when we made the reservation. We booked one of the rooms in the garden, and unfortunately, our expectations were not met upon arrival. The room was nothing like the pictures, and it was quite disappointing for the price we paid. We asked for a room change, but unfortunately they couldn't offer us one. To compensate us, they were very kind to us for the rest of our stay, giving us little treats and gifts. The best part? The dinner at the Oliba restaurant was spectacular, and the breakfast with a view was unforgettable.||

Visiting Chatreu de Blet has been a great pleasure, what a wonderful place. Over 1000 years old, with the most wonderful people as hosts, who have served us with the most delicious menus worthy of a Michelin Restaurant. Thank you for some wonderful days, thank you for the hospitality, and all the stories about the place. The place can definitely be recommended for a long weekend or more.

If you expect an authentic French castle you might be disappointed. It used to be a nightclub and has some quite unique designs. Not the traditional French castle I expected. There's also no spa at the Chateau, instead you have to go to the hotel next door. Staff is very friendly though and the area is nice.

A magical way to finish six weeks in England, Ireland and France. Two days of pure indulgence - fabulous food, friendly staff who allowed me the opportunity to practise my French, and a wonderful walk to a derelict abbey not too far away - but uphill. We loved it. Not looking forward to returning to a Melbourne winter after this.

Amazing, beautiful hotel in a stunning location. The staff were excellent, with special mention to the breakfast waiting staff, who couldn’t do enough to please. This isn’t a 5 star hotel in the true meaning of 5 star, but it doesn’t matter: it’s simply a wonderful, relaxing place to stay.

Fantastic stay at Chateau de Riell. The service is top notch and the food is really good. Great wine selection and a 5min walk there's a restaurant from the Michelin guide. Rooms are amazing, upgrade to stay in the big house. Our room had a shower which leaked onto the bathroom floor every time we showered. This was solved by bringing new towels every single time we had a shower. Lots of cats around the beautiful castle. If you tip Marcel who's worked here for 22 years well he might give you a tour down the old catacombs which also acted as a nightclub in the -70s. The garden is amazing and everywhere you hear birds chirping, winds blowing through the trees or water pouring from the "bains thermales". There are two pools, one big by the garden and one on the top floor which I think is a little heated and has an beautiful view of the surroundings. The booked a table for us when we arrived in the small restaurant 5 min away, but it was closed. To compensate the owner served us free cocktails. And since it was our honeymoon they had a complementary bottle of champagne in our room upon our arrival. In the evening they close the shutters and ready your bed. At breakfast they have fresh carrot, mint, mango smoothie. Will definitely come here again.
