Château de Rochecotte

"Not far from the Bourgueil vineyards, this elegant château dating back to the Enlightenment is set in sumptuous grounds. In La Verrière with its contemporary decor and huge windows with views onto the greenery, or in the more classical dining area, enjoy fine dining-style cuisine, for instance, a fricassee of smoked eel in a Thai jus with lemongrass and coriander." - Michelin Inspector

It was a special birthday celebration and we decided to splurge and book a luxurious suite on the second floor. It was decorated beautifully and had a nice, separate TV room . Windows opened to exquisite lawns, gardens and views of the area. We enjoyed breakfast and had one very good dinner . The dining room was booked the night we arrived, we had planned to eat in the village, but the restaurant was not checking online reservations. A very helpful young man suggested a farm restaurant down the road and booked a table. We loved it! | The staff here was absolutely delightful. One lady spent a good deal of time on the phone with our rental car company. We had been frustrated with Hertz, but she was able to find the right contact. We met several people who were repeat guests and visited yearly! They knew people by name and obviously loved the quiet elegance and pampering. One thing I loved is that they had a resident cat who popped up in all sorts of places, as well as a sweet dog who greeted us at desk. An unexpected domestic rabbit showed up and was friendly! | I only wish I’d had more than three days. The pool and gardens around it are beautiful, the sprawling grounds invite you to stroll leisurely with nothing but sounds of doves cooing and the perfume of flowers in the breeze. Amazing. Merci, Rochecotte, à bien tôt.

This was disappointing. There was a lot that was great and a lot that wasn’t. For the price you are charged and the online impression it gives, your expectations are high and you expect everything to be great. |My husband and I stayed for 2 nights. On arrival we checked in, were shown to our room but there was no offer of help with our luggage. We had a beautiful room at the front of the main part of the chateau. The room was big and sumptuous and befitting a chateau. Unfortunately the shower door in the bathroom didn’t close so there was a flood each time we had a shower. The vanity mirror was loose and hanging. I reported both on the first night but nothing was done. |There is no bar in this establishment which is extraordinary. If you want a drink then you go to Reception and they see if they can find a member of staff who will bring you a drink. This is ok if there is a) a member of staff on Reception and b) a member of staff who is free to bring you a drink. We found that this is not always the case. |We ate in the restaurant both nights. The food was excellent. The service not so. Again, expectations were high but there were some schoolboy errors with the service - not refreshing wine glasses, removing plates before both people had finished eating, asking us to say precisely how many minutes we wanted to wait between courses … Breakfast was buffet style and the choices were ok. But the members of staff didn’t keep on top of the replenishment of the coffee, orange juice, bacon, eggs, etc etc so we (and others) had to keep asking for what we wanted. |In summary, it’s the staff who let this place down. They are all very nice and polite but they appear not to be very well trained and there doesn’t seem to be anyone senior and in charge about the place. |So, will I return? No. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

Wonderful small hotel in the countryside of Loire Valley. All the rooms are different. Ours was spacious, with a walk in entry area leading to the bathroom and a separate room for the toilet. The bedroom beyond was large, two beds, with windows looking out to the lovely gardens and a fireplace which was unused due to the warm spring weather. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom had every amenity, including bathrobes and slippers. Breakfast was a fabulous buffet including breakfast breads, yogurt, fruit, and eggs. There is a swimming pool on the beautiful grounds, and dinner options as well. A very special hotel with a great staff.

Staying at the Chateau de Rochecotte is such a luxurious experience. It is a bit out of the way of the usual Loire a Velo pathway, but worth a detour because it's such a wonderful place. And if you have a car (we were on bicycles), you could easily go anywhere.|We were warmly greeted on arrival and our room was ready early. The minute we entered the room, we knew we were simply going to relax on the property for the rest of the afternoon and evening. We had an enormous room, beautifully decorated in a traditional (not old-fashioned) style, with a very modern bathroom. We showered and changed in time for a beautiful 2-course lunch which made us look forward to a wonderful dinner. We love the hotel for being so upscale and elegant, but not stuffy at all. The extensive grounds give you lots of room to stroll the gardens and there's a lovely pool as well.

Not having stayed in each chateau in the Loire valley, I can't say its the best, but I would be surprised if there many any better. It's difficult to adequately describe how wonderful this place is, so I've uploaded a number of photos so one can judge for themselves.|First of all, this hotel is very conveniently in the Loire valley. Easy access to the most scenic and popular French attractions. However, the surrounding little communities are lovely and deserve a long look. It is in a very quiet area with lots of trees and nice green hills.|The exquisite building itself is beautifully set in this wooded area. Our room which was front and center on the upper floor with a nice balcony had an incredible view of a 200 year old Cedar of Lebanon. See photo. The usual things such as service, furnishings, bed and other facililties were all top notch.||The hotel restaurant also sets this place apart. I can't say every meal they serve is exceptional, but my was. From starters, main and dessert exceded my expectations.( see photos). We chose to eat in the traditional dining room which was quite elegant. Depending on your tastes, they have different style rooms to chose from.|The staff were of the same quality as you would find in any top notch restaurant around the world. The maître d' ushered us to our requested table at the back corner of the restaurant. The wine sommelier after some discussion recommended a nice red called Joël Taluau St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. See photo of bottle. I don't think they ship this quality of wine to the U.S. It was very nice.||The total ambiance of this place gave me a feel for what previous owners must have felt like living here.

We were traveling from Paris visiting Loire Valley castles. Chateau was our last stop before heading to Normandy. You really feel like a king staying there. The grounds are gorgeous, ground floor rooms feel like walking inside museums but then you can sit in luxiourius arm chairs, beautiful pictures are on every wall. My only comment is that breakfast wasn't worth it. It wasn't bad, but it shouldn't cost 24 euro per person.

A lovely chateau in a beautiful park, with very well appointed public rooms and outside terraces. The restaurant is stylish with views of the park. The food was a bit of a disappointment, the starters were good but the beef main course was not great, the meat was so tough I had to ask for a sharp knife. The vegetables were weird, a raw onion (including roots), a navet as hard as a rock. The Bourgueil wine that we had was drinkable but there are much better local wines to be found. The service was friendly and well intentioned . All in all it was a relaxing lunch just not a great culinary experience.

This is a lovely hotel with fabulous grounds. The pool is nice, but a bit cool. Drinks can be delivered to the pool, but it’s an accident waiting to happen that this is done in glassware, especially as children use the pool and inevitably some are undisciplined.|There is no easy way of ordering drinks to the pool or terrace, except by going to reception or catching the waiter while he is delivering to another customer. He was also a bit grumpy and let the pool door in the perimeter drop behind him each time which somewhat spoilt the tranquility (already marred for us by a particularly unruly child and his socially inconsiderate mother).|Room unquestionably beautiful; food decent but not quite and the level hoped for; except the desserts - the pastry chef is top drawer and deserves singling out for special praise.|Overall, slightly understaffed which affects the service standard, but I’d still stay here again.
