The 17 Best Historic Hotels in the World - AFAR

"Housed in a 17th-century former soap factory with castle-like turrets, this French Riviera property blends historic fabric with marine-inspired interiors in turquoise and pearl tones. Perched above the Bay of Cannes, it offers picturesque seaside views and easy access to nearby coastal attractions like St. Paul de Vence and Cannes." - Mary Holland

The 10 Best Luxury Hotels in the French Riviera - AFAR

"Tucked beneath the red rocks of the Massif de l’Estérel in a quiet seaside village, this recently opened château repurposes a 17th-century soap factory and 19th-century castle into an intimate retreat with 34 rooms and 10 suites across three buildings. The design draws on aquatic motifs and playful coastal touches, and facilities include a pool, spas offering Kos Paris and MyBlend by Clarins treatments, a beach club, and a standout restaurant where chef Francesco Fezza highlights creative dishes such as cuttlefish tagliatelle and a Brittany crab plated with Oscietra caviar." - Mary Winston Nicklin

Château de Théoule (Théoule-sur-Mer, French Riviera / Provence) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Built in the 17th century as a soap factory, and then upgraded to a château at the turn of the 20th, this stately edifice stands directly above the port of Théoule sur Mer. Today it’s put to its ultimate use as a smallish luxury hotel, with rooms divided between the original structure and the Art Deco villa next door. A pool and spa establish a resort atmosphere, and among the restaurants is Mareluna, highly regarded for its Asian-inflected Mediterranean flavors." - Tablet Hotels

Our room was very disappointing. We booked a prestige suite with terrace & sea view. We were put in the chateau part of the hotel and our room was right round the side of the building right next to the main road outside the hotel. Firstly, the sea view was partial more of the beach really and you couldn't see it from your window, you had to turn right and sit at the end of the terrace. There was a large window next to that seating area which was the hotel stairwell, this meant that everyone going up and down the stairs could see right onto our terrace. The noise from the road was unbearable, which was made worse by the fact that there was a speed hump right outside our bedroom window, we could hear everything from the busy street, not relaxing at all. There was also a very bright street light right outside our window that shone through all night. I am so sorry to say I couldn't wait to leave, it was so disappointing, we tried to move rooms but there was nothing available with a terrace, which we had purposely booked as we love a terrace to sit on and enjoy the sea view with a coffee or a glass of wine. You had to pay for the beds on the hotel's private beach, but it wasn't private as anyone could come and hire beds for the day. If you are paying that much to stay at the hotel you really shouldn't be having to pay 70 or 80 euros a day for a beach bed especially as the pool area was so small and unattended. Didn't enjoy having to pay the 50 euros a night to park our car at the hotel either.|I have never left a bad review for a hotel before and I have purposefully left doing this review for a few weeks to let myself calm down, but it really was a dreadful room for the exorbitant price [over a £1k a night!] I'm sorry to say that I will never go back to this hotel.

Just returned from the most fabulous 2 night stay at the chateau. I am very fussy usually and was worried after reading other reviews, but everything was wonderful! The hotel is beautifully renovated with stunning views, luxurious spa and great pool area and beach. Yes you have to pay for beach sunloungers, but this was advised before check in and probably not unusual in the south of France. We stayed in a duplex room as we were 2 adults with our 7 year old daughter and the room was perfect for us. Our daughter celebrated her birthday and we really appreciated the kind note, gifts and bottle of excellent champagne waiting for us in the room on arrival. Food was great, breakfast wonderful. Service is very friendly. Special mention to Andrew in the dining room who was so friendly and attentive at breakfast and lunch, Matt and Kevin at reception who provided a very warm welcome at check in, and the female manager at reception (sorry didn’t get her name) who helped us with our restaurant reservations. We unfortunately didn’t get the chance to dine at Mareluna as we thought the evening may be too long for our 7 year old, however we did have the pleasure of meeting Chef Francesco briefly, who was charming. Despite the sunlounger and parking charges I do consider the hotel to be good value for money and definitely feels 5 star. There was a long wait for cocktails one evening but I think the bar was particularly busy that day. The only suggested improvement would be to change the dining chairs on the terrace as they are quite large and makes things a little cramped at breakfast with the tables being located very close together. . However , it’s a special place and we can’t wait to return! Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay at Chateau De Theoule. We had booked 3 rooms in the newer building all different types. The rooms were excellent with a great view of the sea. Staff were cheerful and helpful. We enjoyed the beach club, spa and restaurant during our stay. Dinner at Mareluna was wonderful didn't feel rushed, they catered to the vegetarians in the group very well. Breakfast on the terrace with the view of the water was a great way to start the day. Spa massages were great and the staff were friendly. Concierge was helpful in organizing dinners and transport both before and during the stay. We had trouble to get uber to come to the right entrance at hotel for some strange reason they kept going behind the hotel. It was great 3 days to relax and unwind.

This is a real quality and luxurious experience! The welcome at the gate and the reception is friendly and professional, the whole stuff is helpful and smiling all the time and the massage with Emilie was one of the best in my life: her technique and her presence leaves you very calm still energized. Thank you for the whole team for this unforgettable experience ☺️

My mom, sister and I came here for 3 nights as a second part of our south of France trip. It was a wonderful experience overall. The service was exceptional, the hotel absolutely stunning, and the location was great with a cute town to walk around and nice restaurants to visit close by. I will definitely be back and I recommend this hotel to everyone! The hotel is very accommodating on helping with dinner reservations but we did find they need to be made well in advance so reach out to them ahead of time.

This hotel was perfection. The rooms were thoughtfully designed with high end finishes, the property was well kept and clean, the gardens were magnificent and made the grounds smell so fragrant. The staff were courteous, prompt and extremely helpful. The spa was very nice and the beach club just below the hotel was very close and made for the perfect day in the sun. We will definitely go back someday!

We spent a week at Chateau de Theoule. It is an absolute gem. Most importantly, the staff at the hotel are so helpful and their attention to customer care was faultless. We dined many times at the hotel's beach restaurant, La Plage Blanche. As its name suggests, It's located right on the beach in an idyllic setting. The food and choice of wines were very good. Room service and poolside service were excellent, too. As well as this, the breakfast served by the hotel was exceptional both in terms of choice of breakfast options and, once again, the wonderful service. The beach and hotel pool offer safe, clean environments in which to relax and the village of Theoule itself is within easy walking distance of the hotel. My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Chateau de Theoule and I would highly recommend this hotel for those looking for a special, memorable and very high quality holiday.

The hotel is very nice, by the sea. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast correct, but, one morning with a staple inside granola. You servants at the breakfast were very and polite. Swimming pool without any service at all, during 2 days, towels finished nobody came to replace them. We had a bell by the chair, but was fake...AS boy can in the picture the room was not done at 6.30 pm, even after calling the reception at 3pm|When you pay 1100 euros per day, in a hotel with a private beach it doesn't make any sense to pay 55 euros per person to go to the beach and a beach. This is called scamm. The same for the car park 50 euros a day. |This people don't know how to handle a luxury hotel. Don t go
