The 17 Best Historic Hotels in the World - AFAR

"Housed in a 17th-century former soap factory with castle-like turrets, this French Riviera property blends historic fabric with marine-inspired interiors in turquoise and pearl tones. Perched above the Bay of Cannes, it offers picturesque seaside views and easy access to nearby coastal attractions like St. Paul de Vence and Cannes." - Mary Holland

The 10 Best Luxury Hotels in the French Riviera - AFAR

"Tucked beneath the red rocks of the Massif de l’Estérel in a quiet seaside village, this recently opened château repurposes a 17th-century soap factory and 19th-century castle into an intimate retreat with 34 rooms and 10 suites across three buildings. The design draws on aquatic motifs and playful coastal touches, and facilities include a pool, spas offering Kos Paris and MyBlend by Clarins treatments, a beach club, and a standout restaurant where chef Francesco Fezza highlights creative dishes such as cuttlefish tagliatelle and a Brittany crab plated with Oscietra caviar." - Mary Winston Nicklin

My mom, sister and I came here for 3 nights as a second part of our south of France trip. It was a wonderful experience overall. The service was exceptional, the hotel absolutely stunning, and the location was great with a cute town to walk around and nice restaurants to visit close by. I will definitely be back and I recommend this hotel to everyone! The hotel is very accommodating on helping with dinner reservations but we did find they need to be made well in advance so reach out to them ahead of time.

Simply Fabulous! We have just returned the most fabulous 2 night stay at the Chateau. I am very fussy usually and was worried after reading other reviews, but everything was wondeful! The hotel is beautifully renovated with stunning views, luxurious spa and great pool and beach. Yes, you have to pay for beach sunloungers but this was advised before check in and probably not unusual in south of France. We stayed in a duplex room as we were 2 adults with our 7 year old daughter and the room was perfect for us. Our daughter celebrated her birthday and we really appreciated the kind note, gifts and bottle of excellent champagne waiting for us in the room on arrival. Food was great, breakfast wonderful. Service is very friendly - special mention to Andrew in the dining room who was so friendly and attentive at breakfast and lunch , Matt & Kevin at Reception who provided a very warm welcome at check-in and the female manager at Reception (sorry didn't get her name) who helped us with restaurant reservations. We unfortunately didn't the chance to dine at Mareluna as we thought the evening may be too long for our 7 year old, however did have the pleasure of meeting Chef Francesco briefly who was charming. Despite the sunlounger and parking charges, I do consider the hotel to be value for money when compared to the other hotels in the region. Its a special place and we can't wait to return!

The hotel is very nice, by the sea. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast correct, but, one morning with a staple inside granola. You servants at the breakfast were very and polite. Swimming pool without any service at all, during 2 days, towels finished nobody came to replace them. We had a bell by the chair, but was fake...AS boy can in the picture the room was not done at 6.30 pm, even after calling the reception at 3pm|When you pay 1100 euros per day, in a hotel with a private beach it doesn't make any sense to pay 55 euros per person to go to the beach and a beach. This is called scamm. The same for the car park 50 euros a day. |This people don't know how to handle a luxury hotel. Don t go

Very nice architecture. The view from the Hotel is not as nice as on the website (i.e. the website doesn't show the public beach on the left and right of the Hotel). Staff was very professional and accommodating. False advertising about the beach: it's advertised as a private beach when in reality you need to pay for the beds even if you are a guest of the hotel. The Manager offered us a day without paying the beds when I flagged the issue. €50 per night for parking sounds extortionate especially when you are paying for a 5* Hotel (much better to park on the road for free). The Hotel only has a 1* Michelin starred restaurant, weird not to have a proper bistro too as in most 5* Hotels. Breakfast was very good and the staff working at the breakfast were top class. The room was also very nice and up to standard.

This hotel was perfection. The rooms were thoughtfully designed with high end finishes, the property was well kept and clean, the gardens were magnificent and made the grounds smell so fragrant. The staff were courteous, prompt and extremely helpful. The spa was very nice and the beach club just below the hotel was very close and made for the perfect day in the sun. We will definitely go back someday!

Just very disappointing and not worth the price we paid for the middle of summer. The price tag was comparable to four seasons and equivalent hotel but the service, specifically, was very disappointing. The good: - beautiful property which is well maintained. - quiet and calm atmosphere - good spa experience - breakfast buffet was good. The bad: - feels like the whole hotel was just really poorly managed. Check in process was not smooth and a lot of details about the hotel were not explained properly. There has not been a single occasion over 3 days stay when our order at the beach club was delivered correctly - incorrect items, order was forgotten, order was delayed for 1 hour etc. Orders at the terrace also took 1 hour + for a salad and was still delivered messed up. We got the impression that a lot of people who worked there were people with very little service experience / kids back in town for the summer. Nothing wrong with that but when you charge such a price the expectation is much higher and that was very disappointing. - you do not get any benefits really from being a hotel guest for booking of restaurants and the beach club. The beach club spots that you have to pay for get filled really quickly. Restaurant, as we found out when we sat down there, is pre-set menu only. It was one of the most disappointing pre-set menus I have ever had. - breakfast is especially poorly managed. The system was first come first serve on one day and the next day we got kicked out of the seat we got because apparently it was given to someone else. The staff did not properly explain or provide alternative seating arrangement until we got visibly upset. - the TV in our room didn’t work for most of our stay. WiFi was spotty. The cleaning was at random times sometimes as late as 4 pm. The mosquitoes made it impossible to stay on the outside patio. - room floors were really cold with no carpet. We didn’t find any way to regulate the AC in the room which was kept quite cold during our stay. Management wasn’t motivated to improve our experience in any way. It was just a lot of “sorry” and expectation that we just have to deal with all of that as is. My advice - save your money and go somewhere else.

We accidentally left behind a bag with valuable items, including a pair of sunglasses, in our room. During the first two weeks, I sent several emails with little to no helpful response. But I didn’t give up. Nearly two months later, they finally replied just to say that nothing had been found. I honestly don’t care if the items didn’t turn up — but really? Two months? Every time I received an email, it was from a different staff member who seemed to know less than the previous one. From the very first day after we checked out, I kept calling and was always told they’d “check with housekeeping” — but I never got a proper follow-up until two months had passed. It’s a shame, because the room itself was stunning. But for the price you pay, you expect a more professional and committed staff.
