"On the crossroads between Dordogne, Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne, Vigiers Castle is a splendid 16C Périgord edifice set in grounds that are home to a vineyard and a well-known golf course. This several hundred-year-old castle houses a restaurant whose walls are graced with frescoes dating from the Renaissance period. Virtuoso chef Didier Casaguana paints from a palette rich in flavours and aromas, directly inspired by the region. This Toulouse boy, who admits to an overriding passion for nature and small-scale producers, also works with noble produce from the land of abundance that is southwest France, which he crafts into surprise menus: line-caught John Dory and mushrooms; fillet of Blonde d’Aquitaine beef with stuffed artichoke and a pressé of oxtail; a dessert that revolves around grand cru dark chocolate from Peru." - Michelin Inspector

"Bordering the golf course and set in lovely grounds planted with trees, this 16C château is so peaceful. The guestrooms exude a classically elegant style. Further, more contemporary rooms are in the annexe – a pretty building reminiscent of a tobacco barn. Refinement and greenery!" - Tablet Hotels

This is an absolutely lovely place to stay. We stayed one night in the chateau which was traditional and spacious and very comfortable. Our second night we stayed in the relais which was a more modern light and airy spacious room. Both were perfect for us and had views across the golf course. The staff are incredible - friendly , helpful and efficient. All were happy to speak to us in English which was very helpful. |We ate in the bistro for main meals - again excellent service and very tasty, well presented food. We had breakfast in both places and the choice and quality of the food was excellent. We would definitely stay again if we are in the area.

Lovely hotel, lovely setting. Good size, clean bedrooms. Our room was on the ground floor with access to a small terrace. As non-smokers, we were surprised to find that somebody had used the ashtray on our terrace. Food in the bistro was good on the first night but the steak was tough on the second night. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was expensive for what we received. I would visit again.

Nice Chateau but no food or bar available.! My Wife and I had been travelling around the west coast for a couple of weeks and decided to travel in land to experience a Chateau and see the local vineyards. We had paid for a "double Deluxe" room in the Château to make the stay more luxurious. Whilst the room was spacious and had nice facilities the two windows were very small and looked out over the rear yards and roofs with AC units. As the Chateau is very remote we booked the Brasseries the first night for dinner. However, our experience was not great. It was very busy and took over 20 minutes to receive any water and wine and when I ordered the "special" it was sold out so I had to select a less favourable choice. The next morning we asked if we could reserve a table in the main Chateau restaurant but it was fully booked ! So we had to eat out that day in Bergerac which is at least 30 minutes drive away. On returning to the Chateau in the evening we would have liked to sit out and enjoy a glass of wine after the drive but the bar is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays ! There are two swimming pools that guests can use. The nearest to the Chateau is at the Spa and guests have to walk down the short entrance road and into a side gate . The pool is nice but there are no tables or drinks/food service at the pool as glass/china are not allowed so I had to walk 300 metres around the road and putting green and into the Brasserie bar to purchase drinks in "paper cups" to take back to the pool. Not exactly the experience we expected for 250 Euro per night ! Certainly not 4 Star service or facilities .

Beautiful place. Our room was huge and had a piano! The bathroom was very large and had amazingly strong shower pressure. The restaurant served delicious food. The staff were very nice. Grounds were lovely if you like golf courses. Only negative thing to say is that we couldn't get the A/C to work.

Probably our 10th visit and we left with a regret that our stay should have been longer. Such a delightful establishment with superb golf provided by 3 challenging 9 hole courses that wrap around the Chateau, superb food, and wonderful staff. We have stayed in both the Chateau and the Relaise accommodation ( by far our favourite ) and have never been disappointed. Having travelled to France, Spain , Portugal and England playing golf this is by far the best venue - we will be back.

We stayed at this sprawling, luxurious 16th century chateau for 1 night as part of a Backroads cycling trip.|The grounds are just stunning and include a golf course (sadly we had no time for golf). Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed, with a French country house decor.|Breakfast was served in a ground floor room and was a generous selection of cereals, fruit, pastries and hot food.|A highlight was the Michelin-starred restaurant where we had an excellent meal.|We throughly enjoyed our stay here.

Beautiful location, hotel, food, golf, bars - everything. It helped that the weather was beautiful. We have stayed here at least 6 times and we just keep coming back! We borrowed an ironing board and iton, and the board was tricky to put up - a small piece was missing, but we managed it. That is the only tiny negative we have, and we are already planning our next trip to the chateau and golf.

We played a weekend of golf at the Chateau. The food ( at the bistro) was excellent as was the service . |The three 9 hole courses we played were excellent, with the greens and fairways in perfect condition. The accommodation was also exceptionally good.

Yelp
Stayed 2 nights in the main chateau building on the second floor. This is a place that old age folks (like myself) can appreciate and forgive the sins of commission by the owners. Upon arrival you feel special while driving up to the old estate. The adjacent golf course fairways are dotted with old derelict stone buildings. There's even a partial portion of the original water moat on the 18th fairway. The views are gorgeous. The old house is rather dated and frowzy around the edges. Some peeling wallpaper in the room. The floor base boards are beat up in places. 1950's era plumbing in the bathroom. Pluses are the super king size bed is remarkably comfortable. The linens are luxurious. The room size is generous. The 4 common rooms on the ground floor are large, historic and rather dramatic, like a movie scene. The personnel are all pleasant, competent, and friendly. We dined at the brasserie twice. Meals were acceptable, barely more. Not fine dining. There is another fine dining restaurant that has 1 Michelin star. That menu was was priced above my budget. The hotel charges 23 euros for breakfast, I also did not partake that. Even though I am a rabid golfer at home in California, I play 3 or 4 days per week, I did not play here. I explored the pro shop. The rental golf clubs are rather dated. I am a left handed player, there was just one set of early 2000's vintage Titleist mismatched club set in the bag with a junior length putter. So even if I wanted to play I would be frustrated with the sub-standard rental equipment. I love this rural area of France. Lots of wide open space. Practically no other cars on the winding country roads. Would I stay at Vigiers again? Probably no.

Yelp
Four stars for the four star hotel at Chateau des Vigiers. My boyfriend and I stayed here one night and played 2 rounds of golf. Unfortunately, although there are 27 holes we only played the same 18 both days because of some competition that was going on in the other (most interesting looking) 9 holes. I wouldn't mention it except that it has happened twice now, and at the prices they charge you should get a reduction because you can't choose the 18 you want to play. The hotel was lovely with underfloor heating in the massive bathroom and shower. They have the golf channel (the french one of course) which was great to watch while on our golf holiday. The breakfast we ate was very french (all the pastries, breads, jams, ham, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, fruits, and an espresso machine.) We had a nice dinner in the bar/restaurant near the pro shop. It was interesting and creative, but nothing all that special for a 3-course meal in France. The bar is really big (like a pub) but the drinks were also pretty expensive. The place definitely try's to portray wealth and class, and it does, but you can find excellent food, drink, and golf for a better price in the region.
