Château l'Hospitalet Wine Resort (Narbonne, Occitanie) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Between Narbonne and the Mediterranean Sea, in a lesser-visited part of the south of France, there’s a natural area full of vineyards and lagoons. It’s here, on an expansive estate with no neighbors in sight, that you’ll find Château l’Hospitalet Wine Resort. A rarity in a region where the land is protected and the vast majority of hotels are located in the city or on the beach, its existence is justified by its historic status. Château l’Hospitalet, once an 11th-century hospital, is now a boutique hotel with a vineyard-framed swimming pool, a spa, a high-end restaurant, a working winery, and scenic grounds to explore, glass in hand." - Tablet Hotels

After doing some research, we drove an hour from our hotel to visit this vineyard and it was totally worth it!! Our hotel tried to make a reservation but didn’t get through, however they accommodated us with ease. We were one of three couples who sat for lunch and we did the 3 course tasting menu but ended up having 5-6 course with the well thought out additions in between courses. This was unexpected but very welcomed. Every dish was immaculate, delicious and led perfectly from one to the next. The staff were super attentive and knowledgable about the wine and food, the wine pairings were spot on and we enjoyed every single one. We were sent off with a menu that the chef had hand written a note on and some cake to take away. This was hands down one of the best meals we have ever had and very reasonably priced for what it was. We would love to have stayed here if we’d found it earlier. Would definitely recommend!

I booked this hotel as a member of the SLH club, without great expectations about either the place or the hotel, since it was an area I had never visited before and didn’t know much about. Once again, at reception there was no mention of my SLH booking, but by now I’ve grown used to it.|The hotel is set in a truly charming location, surrounded by vast vineyards that paint the landscape with vivid and captivating colors. A vineyard so close to the sea is already a spectacle in itself.|After being welcomed—with some difficulty, as the young receptionist struggled with my poor French and I with her limited English—we were shown to our room: small but comfortable, located on the third and top floor of a beautifully renovated farmhouse. The decor was pleasant, and the bathroom had a walk-in shower.|We are in Gérard Bertrand’s world, where wine naturally takes center stage. There is a beautiful wine cellar well worth visiting, both to explore and to taste wines from all of Bertrand’s terroirs.|The resort also offers a swimming pool, though not very large, and tennis courts. Its real gem, however, is the stunning beach club at Narbonne Plage, which rivals those in Pampelonne—with the not-so-minor difference that the bill here is much gentler. The sea is not quite the same, of course, but the beach alone and the setting of the beach club and the restaurant are worth the trip.|Breakfast was good and varied. The resort restaurant, which holds a Michelin Green Star, is run by a mixed team—some still in training, others with a rather picturesque style. The menu is left to the chef’s discretion, and while some dishes were truly surprising in a positive way, others, I would say, less so. At the end, they hand you a parchment with the printed menu and a handwritten dedication so you won’t forget your meal there—a sort of diploma for having dined at that place. Almost as if the exam had been ours, not theirs.|Check-out was quick, and this time handled by someone who understood my poor French without too much trouble.

From the moment we arrived we were greeted with the most pleasant and professional staff ever. This was our first time ever staying g at a winery let alone a wine resort with a private beach club. Upon checking we were greeted with a welcome drink and our room was available in fact not only was it available we were upgraded due to Hilton status. Our room was amazing with a view of the vineyard, courtyard and pool along with the hills. We stayed for two nights. Both night we ate dinner at the beach club which was fantastic! The food as well as the service. We enjoyed the beach as well on our second full day. This same day we had a private tour with the one of the manager’s. Sorry I cannot remember my new friend’s name but he was fantastic. What I do remember. Is that he was brought on board to open the beach club a couple years back. The tour was very informative as well. Now let’s get to the best part the wine tasting. Every wine we tasted was different from the whites to the orange to the red. All Fabulous. ||One question that came up was how did you find out about us. I stated that we searched wine resorts and on the Hilton app I found the resort. Our guide stated that’s amazing as we do not get a lot of Americans at the resort. As much as I want to keep this as my own private secret resort in Narbonne France I just cannot as I would be doing the resort and the world an injustice. I want to also that the Bertrand family for creating this wonderful resort and creating beautiful wines as well. We will definitely be back. ||Again thank you for creating this special place as this now holds a special place in our hearts as well. ||Again

Lovely hotel: the grounds are well maintained, lots of flowers, great pool , the better rooms have a separate swimming pool with a sea view. Dining in Art de Vivre restaurant is a wonderful experience for food lovers. Excellent wine and a free wine tasting for guests. A special wine tour can be booked where you can taste very expensive wines and Alexander who does this tour is very enthusiastic and entertaining. A great stay and I will certainly return.

We booked a 4 night stay, and we were looking forward to a relaxing time to round off a two week trip to France.||Due to my wife's allergies and food intolerances, we had lots of pre-arrival engagement with the hotel to make sure there were no issues. We were booked into the gastronomic restaurant and the beach restaurant with assurances that "there would be no issues.....".||We arrived early and our room wasn't ready, we received a lukewarm "welcome" at best. I asked if my wife could speak to the chef, as we had done in the other hotels we stayed at during our stay. We were shown to the patio area, which was not very clean, and we were offered a glass of wine.||We sat for some time (an hour) with no update. I went back to ask about the chef discussion. He's busy, we were told.... His English isn't great, no problem, my wife speaks fluent French. To help,we've looked at the menu, and here are the elements my wife can eat.Let me speak to him again, we were told. Long story short, we were then told that the chef refused to prepare a meal for my wife. Incredulous, I asked if they could check again. She did, and the response was the same. Where can we eat then? We're fully booked, so you can have room service! Wow.||Let's take a look at our Junior Suite in the Villa Soleilla, golf cart to the room. All I can say is beware of website images. The room was dark , the small terrace was filthy, and the room smelled damp. Sorry, we can't stay in this room. Back to reception in the golf cart.... We have another room we can show you, back into the golf cart, and back up to the room above the one we had seen. It's slightly lighter, with the same filthy terrace, and it stank of dirty drains. The culprit was the shower drain. ||We can't stay here either,so back in the golf cart to reception..... Any other options? No, we're full. Wow!||We asked and got a full refund, and we're fortunate to have found a far superior hotel in Domaine de Verchant near Montpellier who understood the concept of service and actually valued our custom.||Dreadful experience, and it looks from other reviews that our issues were not unique.||Truly style over substance.....BEWARE!

We had a fantastic stay at Hospitalet. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, and the service was absolutely perfect. Breakfast was excellent, most of the food were artisanal made. We were a bit disappointed that L’Art de Vivre, the Michelin-starred restaurant, was closed during our stay — but the beach restaurant more than made up for it. We ate extremely well there and enjoyed the friendly, attentive service. The beach club is excellent, with great service, though the music could be a touch quieter. The pool is pleasant but feels a bit secondary — with such a beautiful beach just steps away, we didn’t really use it. A special thought for the recent fire in the area — we hope everyone is safe. Overall, an excellent experience and we would gladly return.

We stayed at Chateau L'Hospitalet for a few days to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday. It is a beautiful property and we enjoyed the stay but I don't think I would return in August, if ever. There was a heat wave, which was certainly not the hotel's fault, but this isn't a really pleasant place to be during a heat wave and it's not convenient to many other places. We had booked a junior suite and the room was beautiful, but once we got inside, we noticed that the mini split air conditioning unit was making a very loud rattling noise. We called the front desk and they sent someone out to check but told us that all the units sounded like that. They offered that we could check another room, where there was central air conditioning, which was very quiet. It was a larger room and we were happy they allowed us to move. That started things off very well. Then that first afternoon, there were no lounge chairs by the pool. We asked an employee if it was possible to get more and they said they would check but never came back. The next day, we spent a day at the beach club, where the beach is beautiful and the chairs comfortable, but there is no "lunch" menu (with light offerings like salads or sandwiches, and it was difficult) to get cold drinks on the beach.) One reason I would never recommend visiting in August, however, is that the mid-range restaurant, Chez Paule, is closed for dinner, meaning you either need to go to the beach club - 10 minutes away by car or shuttle -- or to the high-end Michelin guide L'Art du Vivre. We were excited to go there, actually, to celebrate my husband's birthday, but we found it overpriced and underwhelming with very snooty service. I will write a separate review on that experience as it was the only time I've ever paid $500 to be corrected by a server on what to do with my cutlery.

Yelp
Beautiful place, great service! It's difficult to express how wonderful our room was. Large private patio overlooking the vineyard and the Mediterranean Sea just beyond that!

Yelp
As I'm sure most of you would have noticed I'm a foodie, however, what you may not know is that I love a tipple too, and as anybody worth their salt knows a good meal is incomplete with his best lady - an accompanying bottle of wine. So as a treat my gorgeous friends took me out to the Château l'Hospitalet for a little wine tasting. Yea me! Fergul; the Irish general manager with the French name (irony) was a delight and took me though the grapes, years, soil, region, seasons and of course bottles of plonk. I was completely rubbish and refused to spit out a drop claiming it was just wrong to waste such good wine. My poor form was completely acceptable and it seemed the team were used to such antic anyway. I was free to wander around the vineyard and the cellar and the whole experience is totally free of charge but of course it's curious to buy so wine, (which you'd be a fool not to) but there is no obligation. On the site there is also a charming hotel, restaurant and bar that offer jazz evening which in 2004 gave birth to an annual Jazz festival. I can not wait to return to sample the food and wine combo in the restaurant that has awarded la Château a place in Le Guide Michelin alone with with a number of other acclamations. The only down side for me is that I only came over with hand luggage so I couldn't buy any wine to bring home. Never mind, that'll learn me! So note to you reader check a bag!!
