Château St. Gerlach (Valkenburg, Limburg) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"At the edge of the Ingendael Nature Preserve, beyond the city center of Maastricht, sits a 15th-century monastery transformed into a Dutch countryside luxury hotel. Portions of Château St. Gerlach’s original farmhouse, convent, and grain lofts are now occupied by 114 guestrooms decorated in a country-chic style, plus residences for larger parties. There’s a Roman-style indoor pool, as well as a small spa with a sauna and turkish bath. Burgemeester Quicx, Coffee & More is the hotel’s modern coffeehouse, while contemporary French classics are served in the exquisite dining room at Les Salons." - Tablet Hotels

What an amazing hotel, absolutely gorgeous location, ideal for a weekend getaway from the hustling city life. Lots of greenery and nice walking paths in nature. Highly recommend the restaurant on site. Clean rooms, incredible staff, especially the head barman at the bar in the evenings. Can't wait to go back.

The location is really wonderful. We enjoyed our stay. However, there were some significant details that were not compatible with the 5* superior experience. ||- our shower was loose, as in the entire shower bar was coming loose. Despite telling the reception about this, it was not fixed. Some days later it came completely off the wall and luckily didn't not hit us on our head. ||- when diming the lights, they were flickering very irritatingly||- we have told the hotel beforehand that this was our honeymoon. We expected a bit more attention for this occasion. We've found a small box of chocolate in our room, but this was it. Nobody from the staff in the hotel, restaurant or spa mentioned it or congratulated us. It all felt very ordinary.||- on top of the very high price, the parking wasn't even included. Even though it's a small fee, it feels quite cheap to ask this additional fee from guests. Especially since there wasn't even valet parking||||We liked our stay, but expected a lot more from 5* Superior. It was more akin to a higher 4* or lower 5* hotel.

This is more then a hotel; it is an experience. ||The hotel is located in a beautiful park, with all around creations of modern artists. The room we had made you really feel inside a castle : spacious, with a lot of antique. It is not a design or top modern hotel, it exudes the serene atmosphere of a castle. ||We liked it a lot and certainly will go back. Located conveniently next to a nature park in a bike-friendly area and golf courts 10 minutes away, it has all you need. ||And a must is diner at Les Salons. It is fabulous.

We spent a lovely short break at Château St. Gerlach, nestled in the scenic Limburg countryside. The estate is beautifully maintained and exudes a sense of history without sacrificing modern comfort. For guests traveling with dogs, it’s close to paradise: the hotel grounds lead directly into the Ingendael nature reserve, offering tranquil walks in a truly idyllic setting.||Our suite was spacious and clean upon arrival, with tasteful décor and a clear sense of place. However, storage space was very limited — just a small wardrobe, which is simply insufficient for more than a night or two. Due to the historic architecture and small windows, the room temperature was uncomfortably high on warmer days. While the suite had a good air conditioning system, it was unfortunately too loud to leave on overnight. In addition, the sound insulation left much to be desired; the room was quite noisy, possibly due to the limitations of the building's original structure, even after a recent renovation.||The culinary offerings were a highlight. Dinner at Les Salons was particularly memorable — refined, flavorful, and relaxed in a way that rivaled Michelin-level experiences. The breakfast buffet, although not extensive, was of high quality. However, our experience on the first morning was disappointing: the hotel was likely fully booked, and it took nearly 50 minutes before any staff approached our table for a drink order. Tables weren’t cleared, and the overall atmosphere was far from what one would expect in a five-star establishment. Fortunately, the situation improved on the following days, and we enjoyed more relaxed and attentive breakfasts.||In general, the staff throughout the hotel was courteous, helpful, and professional. We also appreciated the massages in the beautifully designed wellness area, which offered a great moment of relaxation.||In summary: Château St. Gerlach is a charming historic property with beautiful surroundings and strong culinary and wellness experiences. Some infrastructural weaknesses — especially regarding climate control, noise insulation, and breakfast service under high occupancy — slightly tarnish the overall experience. Still, for a tranquil escape in the Dutch countryside, it remains a special place.

We stayed at this beautiful hotel as part of the Andre Rieu concerts through his travel company.||Wow what a wonderful experience, the hotel is five stars, from the reception rooms to the breakfast room, bar, restaurant and surrounding grounds.||The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The only comment we made was the towels in the bathroom are small but this was not a problem. ||I would highly recommend this hotel. We really would have liked to stay a couple of nights longer.

Chateau St. Gerlach has been tastefully restored. The staff is International and friendly. Big pool (for a hotel). Ample parking. Tasty breakfast. Rustic rooms with modern facilities. Le Salon is a super chic restaurant for casual fine dining. Love the sculpture garden too and the nature walks, although after a rainy day the paths get wet and a bit muddy.

An amazing stay in this historic castle! Already by entering through the main gate by car, I was flashed by this wonderful sculpture park; an open air exhibition full of creative surprises. |The staff at the reception has welcomed us with a lot of explications; they are really caring about their guests.|The interior decoration and all the details in this restored farmhouse let you feel like a princess in a real castle. |To finish the day with dinner in “Les Salons”, that will guide you in a world full of flavours (as I am a vegetarian, I was positively surprised).|I definitely will rebook this stay.

The room was fine. A bit pricy, but well maintained and spacious. The surroundings are beautiful. My room was at the back of the building where the machinery is located. Sleeping with the window open was a no go - way too much noise. My biggest complaint is the breakfast, what costs €30 extra. I had the worst oily egg ever. All the ingredients of the buffet where of a substandard level. I expected more from a hotel of this level. Room for improvement : )

Yelp
Chateau St. Gerlach located just outside of Valkenburg in the Netherlands is absolutely amazing. The grounds are breathtaking beautiful. The have several style rooms within the compound. From 2 story apartments to rooms that make you feel like your in a castle back in the 1400's. The pool at the spa here is very nice and relaxing. They have a running trail that takes you thru a field and Into the woods. Very beautiful and when your deep in the woods on the running trail you will find a bar that looks like Robin Hood and his merry men built. Lol. I could go on and on about this place. Put it on your bucket list cause this place is awesome!!!

Yelp
I absolutely Château St. Gerlach! Whenever I need a break from life and simply want to destress, this is my favorite place to be. The staff here treats me like a VIP. The Château, as well as its surroundings are mesmerizing. I honestly think I would live here year round if I could afford it!!! Wonderful bistro, as well as a bar and chique restaurant are just a few steps away from the spacious, romantic, quiet, beautiful rooms. The swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms are definitely my favorite hangout spots besides the bistro. I recommend you book your massages or facials before you arrive, since they are popular "activities" over here. I can spend three nights in a row here without ever leaving the property and be as happy as.... a princess! Pro tip: Breakfast buffet with a view on the palace gardens. Worth every penny!!
