Elephant and Castle’s Best Cafes, Bars, and Snacks | Eater London

"Perhaps the single most vital arch in the area, and besides being a proper Colombian tienda that sells and distributes South American groceries and baked items, Chatica has also branched out as a full-fledged bakery, with highlights including soft cheesy bombs of buñuelos, rings of roscon filled with shockingly pink guayaba pulp, comfortingly bland humitas wrapped in corn husks, huge globes of papa rellenas, and tamales. For early-birds and all-night revellers from Distriandina and Corsica Studios there is calentada, Colombian breakfast made from previous day’s rice and beans, reheated with scrambled egg, steak, chorizo and arepita. Don’t miss their homemade ice creams made with vivid Colombian fruits such as guanabana, lulo and mora." - Jonathan Nunn

It looks OK and has some delicious looking items, but there was very little information about them on display. The person serving behind the counter didn't speak much English, so I couldn't even ask him what the items were. Bought a chicken empanada, which was freshly fried in front of me. It was really crunchy but lacked chicken - and flavour. The guava pastry was good but had too little filling and a lot of air inside. On the plus side, the prices are fairly reasonable.

Colourful and welcoming Mexican shop/cafe beneath one of the train arches of Elephant & Castle station (and close to the tube). Good selection of inexpensive and tasty food, much of which is homemade. I would definitely visit again if I was in the atea and I suspect it is much-used by locals from the steady stream of customers.

Cafe & shop situated under the railway arches very near both Elephant & Castle tube & mainline stations. Visited purely to get some Aji Amarillo paste for a Peruvian recipe. Nice litlle place for pastries , coffee or a small selection of Peruvian/ Colombian grocery items.

Friendly and accommodating staff who listen to feedback (one item was mis priced on the board and ticket but this was quickly remedied ). I particularly enjoyed that you can sit in the cafe area to have snacks/pastries and a coffee without any problems, unlike other establishments in the area. I also like how the Colombian snacks are heated in an oven (eg. Papas rellenas) or freshly deep fried (eg empanadas) so that they are very crispy. Loses one star only because the flat white seemed very milky, more like a latte, but this could be a regional preference.

Loved it! We had empanadas and pan de bono! I can’t wait to go back and try more options! As a vegetarian, I felt I had options, and for my husband who’s a coeliac also had some options.

Lovely shop/cafe. Good, fresh empanadas. The hot chocolate very good with a hint of cinnamon. Ladies at the tills very friendly and nothing is too much for them. Good service with an smile. Managed to get fresh white cheese so worth the visit 😋

Bad and poor customer service, I bought some items and when I got home they were not all in the bag. There are better places around Elephant and Castle. Mal atención al cliente y dependientes bordes.

I wnent to buy something marked £2.50 and then when paying the cashier told me £2.80. I showed the label and said that all were marked £2.50 and the cashier just said it was £2.80. I didn’t buy anything and I think they did something wrong (maybe illegal?) so I won’t buy from them anymore, I was a regular even when the staff are rude. Fortunately there is a great Colombian shop next door.
