Boston’s Biggest Restaurant News April 2018 | Eater Boston

"One of the Chinatown restaurants that closed, this spot’s departure was part of a broader trend of longtime establishments leaving the neighborhood and shrinking the local dining options." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
How did I only just find this place!! This Chinese restaurant is honestly better than some of the spots in Chinatown. I ordered a bunch of dishes, and every single one of them was delicious — not a single miss. It was truly amazing. The staff were also incredibly friendly and provided excellent service. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back again!

Google
They don’t skimp on meat!! Got the beef chow foon and when it came to the table, we were wondering where the noodles were. Lots of beef on the plate, very yum but a bit flavorless. I added sweet soy sauce to it and chili oil and it made it much better. Their dim sum is about $7 each which seems a bit pricey but it’s worth it when you see the size of each dumpling. Like I said, they don’t skimp! Enjoyed everything we ordered.

Google
Went there for Dim Sum and the restaurant is looking rather run down. There were not many people there. Was expecting a bigger crowd. We got served and seared fast vs how I had remember when I went to the one in Boston Chinatown which had now closed down ☹️ The authenticate plates with their logo is still there remnants of how majestic and grand they were when they had both Boston and Dorchester running! The food quality also had dropped. I felt the Dim Sum was not hot enough and became cold quickly. The taste was not how I remember either. Quality has dropped and the prices has gone up. Overall I have had better Dim Sum in Quincy.

Google
Food was ready as promised and order was correct. Food was very bland. Chicken wings were very dry, and so was the boneless pork. They definitely did not taste fresh. Crab rangoon was the only winning dish. We also got duck sauce, but no soy or mustard. Also no fortune cookies!

Google
Was not disappointed. Great hospitality and wonderful food. Got a chance to speak with the owner and he explained that it is a family owned business that has been around for years. I asked were they also affiliated with the location that use to be located in Downtown Boston, Chinatown. He said yes. I will be definitely returning again!

Google
I ordered honey walnut shrimp and they brought me a plate of shrimp slathered in mayonnaise. It was repulsive, and they refused to give me something else or take it off the bill. The waitress was useless as she was eating dinner herself and couldn't be bothered to check on me at all and left me waiting for the check for 45 mins. Also the place is filthy and needs a good douching. The cobwebs on the drapery looked like a second set of curtains hanging in the windows.

Google
Everything was absolutely disgusting! The lo mein was ice cold. I went in an ordered and was home in 5 minutes! The egg rolls were so greasy and burnt as were the beef teriyaki and tuff! The fried rice tasted burnt and old, egg foo yung was swimming in grease that was supposed to be gravy…No Gravy!!!! I wish this had smellovision taking these photos all I smell is burnt!!!! I would give it a minus 5 stars!!! Do Not Recommend! Never Again!

Google
Food is yummy. Service is kinda rushed. Place could be upgraded. But worth the food.

Yelp
Spent 15 minutes getting the whole family's orders in online, only for the website to crash. Tried again, went through the entire process a second time, and 45 minutes later when we finally went to check out, we were told we're outside of the delivery range. I live 1.1 miles away. I even called to ask for help, and the person on the phone couldn't have been ruder if they tried. I could have literally walked there if I wasn't hosting family. We canceled the order and won't be back. What a joke of an operation.

Yelp
As usual brunch here is amazing. There's so much to eat and it's always hot and delicious. This place is full all the time but it's w

Yelp
I enjoyed a lovely lunch here when visiting the area. On a quest to find hearty, comforting food during a stressful time I happened to come across Chau Chow Restaurant much to my delight. The restaurant was clean (they displayed their "A" rating certificate for cleanliness from the state), the service was attentive, and the food was delicious. It was nice that Dim Sum was offered during the lunch hour and we certainly made some selections from that menu. To begin we were served a lovely hot tea from a pot which which was refilled as quickly as it was out. My dining mates enjoyed their food selections and we enjoyed the traditional meals offered. I would definitely return.

Yelp
Authentic atmosphere, mostly Asian people filling the tables. Nothing fancy but they do have steam carts! Most dishes $5.50-6.50. Their website says opens at 9 am. Yelp says 11am. We got there at 10:30. Several tables were full. When I asked for greens, they told me no vegetables until 11:00. We went from there to the zoo. Not too far. Made for a nice day. Right off 93, easy to park.

Yelp
We loved the old Chau Chows in Chinatown when we lived in Boston and decided to give this place in Dorchester a try on a return visit from California where we now live. We were not disappointed -- excellent food, large quantity, fair price and a lovely restaurant, worth the trip! We had Squid with Black bean Sauce and Green Peppers, Spicy Fried Calamari, Szechuan String Beans, and Vegetable Chow Fon -- all delicious. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I've wanted to try Chau Chow in Dorchester for a while. I liked the Boston Chinatown location, but it's gone. Regrettably, the Dorchester location does not live up to the formers heritage. The decor is Volunteer fire hall. The service was friendly and attentive. We did not have Dim Sum, which may be better than what we ordered from the menu. The egg roll(s), General Gau's Chicken (with jalapeño pepper!), scallops with assorted vegetables and scallion pancake were at best average. There's plenty of parking (because no one is there!). It was worth trying if only to know not to return.

Yelp
Growing up, Chau Chow city was the place to be for both Dim Sum and dinner. Great quality food and great customer service. The staff is wonderful. Can't wait for them to reopen so we can have dine in Dim Sum again ... Right here I have a few main dinner dishes that everyone gets. Ginger scallion lobster, house special fried rice, salt and pepper spicy pork chops, Mayo shrimp, marinated jellyfish, and pea pod stem. Great taste and portion is enough to feed 3-4 people. Definitely was able to pack two containers to bring to work for lunch. One for me and one for my wife. Love supporting local businesses during these hard times.

Aden M.

Yelp
So traditional and nice! Love the service and everything. I also like how they give complimentary tea too! I really loved it, everyone was so nice and it was very open and clean. Tysm!!

Sean V.

Yelp
Fairly pricey for the area. Most disappointed that they added a mandatory gratuity (service charge) for our party of 4. When asked if this is standard or why, they just said because "you guys ordered a lot of food". So the penalty for giving them more money is a mandatory gratuity, interesting. Dim sum was standard, fairly greasy and loaded with sodium and MSG. Our group was thirsty for the rest of the day! Better to just drive towards Quincy for the options there.

Kenneth M.

Yelp
The food was fairly average for dim sum. A lot of the food tasted like it's been out for a while, but that's part of having less customers that are eating the food (so the food is stuck in the carts for a while). The service was really good with the manager being super attentive and delegating the dim sum cart ladies to tables for food. It feels different from Chinatown, but it's very standard for a dim sum restaurant. They have a tv playing a nfl game on the Sunday afternoon that I went which was a fun surprise. Parking is fantastic, always great when I don't need to pay for garage parking to great taste in Chinatown.

Yelp
This place used to be the place to go for DimSum and dinner but it's gone downhill and we have not been back her for years besides when we have to attend functions. The food got cold and greasy. The restaurant itself is getting old and needs a facelift and redesign somehow. The service is just like any other Chinese restaurants (in and out) speedy fast

Deverib S.

Yelp
The food is fresh and authentic, and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant is easily accessible without the hassles of city parking, making it a convenient choice for a great dining experience.

Yelp
Chau Chow is located on Morrisey Boulevard in Dorchester, MA. The restaurant has its own parking lot however you can also find parking both in front of the restaurant and on side streets but I would pay attention to street signs designated and resident only. The restaurant serves dim sum in the morning and a Cantonese menu for lunch and dinner. Both are stellar. When I used to work in Dorchester, Chau Chow was one of my favorite lunch destination. Dim Sum on both the weekdays and weekend comes out piping hot. You will get more variety on the weekend however expect a line and crowd. I have to say, their dim sum is one of my favorite outside of Boston's Chinatown. I would rated it in my top three Dim Sum restaurants. Their Cantonese lunch and dinner menu (not the American Chinese menu) is also top notch. I have been to several wedding and family gathering banquets held here and the food have been on par with Chinatown. In addition, I have made a dinner reservation here for 50+ guests for my child's baptism and the management member I spoke with was easy to work with and we were able to negotiate both the price and menu with ease. The night of the banquet, they had our section of the restaurant by the window reserved as requested. Service was smooth. The waitress and waiters replaced the dinner plates continuously throughout the meal and refilled water. Overall, I highly recommend them if you want to host a small banquet for a family and or friends gathering. See my pictures for some of the food recommendations.

Yelp
Order for first time for delivery. Food was not great and I had to pay extra for rice! The menu on line gives no description of the dish. Ravioli was really heavy and two chicken dishes were heavily breaded. If I knew I would not have ordered. Not for me. And paying for rice really??

Yelp
The food was decent and everything was hot and tasted good. Service was fast. The restaurant definitely needs a makeover and looks like it is falling apart. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and smell horrible.

Yelp
We went there today for MLK Day for dim sum. The place was dead for lunch. Only 2 other tables with customers. While we were eating there was a mouse that ran across the dining room scaring other patrons. When we were done I handed the manager my credit card and she added 3% on top of that. Never seen a restaurant who added 3% to the total if using a credit card. We then decided to leave the tip in cash. Service was OK so I gave them 16% which was $12 cash. After we left while walking out to our cars the manager ran out and asked us to give her more tip. She said give me $15 so my guest gave her another $3. If it was me I would have told her to get lost. We come here once a month and take friends and relatives here when they come to visit. Never again will we ever step foot in this joint. There are other Dim Sum places in Quincy folks. Look them up.

Yelp
The food is okay and service is a hit and miss. I used to come here a lot for banquet and events. Other than that, I wouldn't come here just to eat with family. Food is quickly served. Dim Sum is so so. Good location.

Yelp
This is my absolute FAVORITE dim sum place. I no longer live the area however whenever I am in town visiting, i ALWAYS stop by for dim sum. I like that this location has plenty of parking. Every time i go, the dishes are always nice and hot as the servers are making rounds around the dining area with their carts. I enjoy the flavors of of all of the food as well. When i go, we typically order: - Shrimp Rice Noodles Rolls (love the sweet soy sauce that comes with this) - Har Gow (Dim Sum Shrimp Dumplings) - Siu Mai (Pork and Shrimp dumplings in a yellow wrapper); I always get the ones steamed in the metal container, not the bamboo since the bamboo one is lobster and costs more and i enjoy the shrimp ones -Tripe (cooked in ginger and scallions, the texture is interesting and it is chewy. I think it tastes good but it may be a surprise for someone who hasn't had it before) -Pork buns -Chicken Feet (I love the sauce on these compared to other dim sum locations - this one is actually flavorful) -Crispy Shrimp Cake w/ Taro (i really enjoy the crunchy bits on this dish) -Fried Shrimp Roll (not really sure how else to explain this, but it comes on the cart with the other fried dishes)

Yelp
I'm done done with Chinese food. We were so hungry. It's Christmas and we didn't have many options for restaurants. After carefully weighing our options, we choose Chau Chow for takeout. I got lobster which edible, but short. My daughter unfortunately got boneless ribs and pork fried rice. In a word, it was horrible. The ribs had a funny grayish color and a foul smell. She took one bite and spitted it out. She tried to eat the rice, but after two or three bites, she gave up. I tasted the rice. The worst ever. It was drenched in soy sauce (probably to disguise its staleness). Not only was the food not fresh, it was old and probably unsafe. I wanted to drive back to the restaurant, but she didn't want to go back out. We are so disgusted. What a bitter end to a beautiful day.

Yelp
I used to go to Chau Chow every other Sunday with my parents for Dim Sum for many, many years. The food and service has always been excellent. Even now as an adult, I still go from time to time. These last two times we went though, was extremely disappointing. You order from menus now instead of the carts, which is fine, but 75% of the menu is crossed off. Their service is extremely, extremely slow. There were only 2-3 waitstaff for the entire restaurant; the managers pitched in but this was still not enough. Additionally, when the food arrived, some of it was cold. Lastly, when some items were no longer available after we ordered, no one came to inform us and we just waited. Good thing we spoke up or else we would have been waiting for a lot longer. I unfortunately can no longer recommend this place for Dim Sum based on the food and poor service. Your best bet is to look elsewhere like in Quincy or Chinatown.

Yelp
Good food! Feels like home. Place is very clean and spacious. Server is friendly. Will come again

Yelp
We all know that American Chinese food isn't the best for your health so if you're going to risk a heart attack, the food should at least be spectacular. All of it tasted like Chinese food you bought, put in the fridge for a couple days and then reheated. The spicy calamari was so overdone they were were hard as a rock, the shrimp fried rice was greasy and had that "reheated leftover" taste. The chicken wings tasted like spoiled chicken that they fried the hell out of to hopefully kill off any bacteria. I'm pretty sure fried chicken wings shouldn't have a tang to them. I don't know if the food was terrible because it was slow or what but it's 12 hours later and I still feel the ball of grease in my stomach.

Yelp
Don't normally write review on anybody food and business because everybody got they're own twist and take on... Food is good, after the pandemic they they're up and downs. I love dimsum and I don't mind this place it's pretty good, but that Chinese lady with glasses whos a waiter at our table and also at the front desk we always tip her really good! And she's always ask us for more!? This happen all the time we go! I bet she won't try that ever on American people lol I won't be coming back there... maybe for take out

Yelp
*Updated* New owners I believe @ Chau Chow. Dimsum is good, very convenient location. Beef rice noodle rolls, su mai, and lobster dumplings are the way to go.

Yelp
Take the extra 10 minutes and head over to Quincy or to Chinatown to get your dim sum fix. Do not just settle and tell yourself "it's just dim sum, any good ol' place will do." This place is disappointing and sad. They didn't even have chicken feet and black bean spare ribs until we almost left. No good assortment of fresh bread. The egg tart OOZES of pounds of butter that I couldn't even finish half of one. On a more positive note: the chicken feet, when it did come out, was tasty. It is a large space, good for groups, and there is parking out front. However, given the large range of dim sum restaurants in the Boston area that has a way better selection and significantly nicer ambience, I will not be coming back.

Yelp
Ordered 8 delight fried noodles and roasted pork fried rice. Firstly the order was superfast when i heard the knock i never expected it to be them .secondly both foods were so good tasting i was so impressed i was lost in the taste i forgot to take pictures

Yelp
Really sad I have to give this place that I grew up loving a 1 star. Went there on a Saturday and was kind of shocked to see just 3-4 cars in the lot. Walked in and there was only two other groups. Even my son was shocked at how empty it was. The tables are no longer lined with linen. No more ladies rolling out dim sum carts. We were give a picture menu and nearly half of the items were marked over in white tape because they no longer served them. The basic of all basic dim sum. Really disappointed with how this restaurant has gone so downhill since Covid. That will probably be my last time at Chau Chow. Drive another 20mins to Quincy or Chinatown for better service and food.
google avatar

Cassandra W.

Yelp
I had a great time dining here! The siu mai and har gow portions were crazy big - loved that. They don't have thaaaat much of a selection for dimsum but they have the classics, and hey that's what counts! I was chatting with some of the cart ladies in Cantonese and they're all super nice. Price wasn't bad either - we ordered a lottttt (like 6 plates of shrimp rice rolls and a bunch more!!) and it came out to be $17 per person.

Yelp
The story is no different here than many other large Chinese banquet restaurants: solid Dim Sum offerings, subpar service, mediocre dinner service / wedding food. The experience at these types of places typically fall in the "lesser" category, but when it comes to the price, group friendliness, ease of parking, Chau Chow suddenly becomes a viable option. Folks who might question Chau Chow as a legitimate Cantonese restaurant might have a case since it's really not. If the name didn't already give it away, the Dorchester location (aka Boston's Lil Vietnam) most certainly would have. For the Vietnamese locals, ordering here isn't a problem. Most everything has a Viet-Chinese option and it's more like than likely the management / staff are of Chaujinese decent, as a large number of overseas Chinese speaking Teochew (Chaujinese) reside in Vietnam and SE Asia. Highlights from their Dim Sum aren't high enough to merit much praise. The har gow (shrimp dumplings) are a little thick on the skin and the har cheurng (shrimp rice crepes?) are plentiful, both of which ironically end up being the most edible of the usual cast of Dim Sum characters. Not surprisingly bland are pai gwut (pork ribs?), siu mai, fung tsau (chicken feet / phoenix talons), and any of the meatballs (fish / beef). The BBQ buns tend to be a little on the doughy side, but at least they feature on rare occasions, lai wong baos (egg custard buns?). The wedding spread (10 courses of various seafood / gourmet dishes) is on par with the rest of their Dim Sum, if not a little worse. Salt and pepper squid was dry and greasy, yangzhou fried rice was terribly bland, crispy chicken was oily and tough, and even the steak + gailan was unmemorable. If there is a thumbs up dish throughout the night, it was the ginger scallion lobster. Fragrant, juicy, and falling right off the shell, it was a runaway hit with our table. While the place is huge and has plenty of parking, it's not enough when the food quality is always questionable. Unless I'm having to come here in a group (like the last time), I'd rather settle for much better Viet options in the hood. (#1) ________________ (#1) I'm not insinuating that Viet and Chinese food are interchangeable. I'm simply saying that Vietnamese food in Dorchester is a sure thing.

Yelp
Really great if you want authentic chinese food for a decent price while also supporting small Asian owned businesses. My family has been going to this restaurant since its original location in Chinatown and although I was sad to see them move it's definitely worth the trip to Dorchester! The salt/pepper calamari and walnut shrimp are favorites. They have always been very hospitable for birthdays, graduations, and even my white coat ceremony for dental school. Last night when uber eats messed up my order they followed up with me to make sure I would receive my replacement order. Highly recommend and makes for great leftovers.

Yelp
Just awful!!!! So i moved away to San Francisco (Chinese food porn heaven!!) and back to Boston only to find out that Chau Chow City in Chinatown has closed. This was a place where my family frequented on the occasional weekend for some solid (not spectacular, but SOLID) dim sum on Saturday or Sunday mornings. As I googled online to check out the hours for a refresher- I was disappointed and saddened to find out it was closed due to an expired lease and rent increase. However, I was super excited to discover that they had a second location on Morrissey Blvd. (closer to my home anyway) where I decided to go for my dim sum fixing. Boy was this a HUGE mistake! The space looked run down and not even close to as extravagant as the Chinatown location but whatever... who cares about ambiance when the food is good, right??? - WRONG! The decor/ambiance and the food were subpar. The har gow was too chewy, the xiao long bao meat was dense and flavorless while the dough around it was also chewy and thin -_- The chicken feet and other varieties of dumplings were flavorless, cold and not fresh at all. At this point I was too unimpressed to even bother ordering an egg tart dessert which I ALWAYS leave room for after any dim sum. I was just ready to call it a loss and go home. Too bad that couldn't happen either because the servers waited about 20 mins. before noticing that I finished eating... luckily I didn't come alone and was able to keep a nice convo. going during that wait time. Did I mention that there were about 10-12 staff walking around and only about 15 customers in the entire place? Oh and the space is about 1/3 the size of the Chinatown location... I decided to write this place off. Then... I have no clue how but I somehow allowed some friends to suggest this as a dinner location. Why?! Dear God, why???? Came in here again with an open mind and thought dinner might be better than dim sum... NOPE. Although the food was served quickly... it was just awful. Garlic eggplant was overly sweetened and weird tasting; the pea pod shoots w/ garlic were drowned in oil and wilted; the fried chicken wings were tasteless; the salt&pepper shrimp and Peking raviolis were the only semi-enjoyable dishes. Finally... the seafood in the crispy pan fried house special chow mein was rotten!!!! Actually rotten!!! So that was gross and enough to never return or recommend this place to anyone. On a couple of other notes: - one of the wait staff used the disgustingly unsanitary, run down and super smelly bathroom then walk out WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS!!!! - one wait staff member SNEEZED INTO HIS HAND and continued to arrange utensils and napkins on the surrounding tables. - during our second trip my (vegetarian) friend ordered a plain pan fried lo mein but was given a plain crispy pan fried chow mein. When she gently tried to ask to be exchanged then decided to just eat the chow mein instead of going through the awkward/time consuming effort... the waiter then turned around and started insulting her to the other waiter in Cantonese (in our presence)!!!! So he clearly looked at us and assumed all of us at the table couldn't understand because we aren't Chinese... Look around buddy, it's 2018 and people are far more internationally attuned and Cantonese/Mandarin are the second most useful languages after Spanish!!! Ugh! If you want really great Chinese food.... make the effort to check out any of the following instead: Hei La Moon OR China Pearl (Chinatown; Quincy) - solid dim sum (nothing special but solid) Gourmet Dumplings (Chinatown) - Great dumplings and overall menu Mulan (Cambridge) - Solid dumplings Mary Chung's (Cambridge) - good American- Chinese food and best Suan La Chow Sho I've eaten anywhere in life (not that this dish is common anyway) Lucky's Chinese (Dorchester) - Cheap w/ authentic options and good Chinese bbq Overall... If I could give this place Zero (0) stars I would but Yelp just won't allow it.

Yelp
Food is pretty good. But go after 11am on the weekends for the food because the food is steaming hot after 11. It is very busy so the waiters are running around so don't be shy to flag them down and don't be offended if it seems like they are brushing you off. Just keep trying to flag them down. Parking lot is tiny. There is also a station in the back where they have the clams, snails, and veggies, etc that you can take the white paper and go choose what you want. Timing is crucial depending when you go! Too early - not enough selection and food is not steaming but has parking and waiters have more time. Much later - steaming foods, more selections, you can order from an actual menu (like for fried rice or noodles, etc), not a lot of parking (although i think you can park in the other plaza behind cvs).

Yelp
Dim sum here is pretty uninspiring, just like the decor. I come here monthly because it's near my home, there's parking, and it fits large groups. However I can't patron this place again. Even with the A heath rating from the the city, I discovered the most DISGUSTING thing in the chili oil - a dead, black fly. Lost my appetite and any reason to come here again.

Yelp
First off, what the hell was I thinking? After helping the bride & groom get hitched, hubby and I were starving and had a few hours to kill before the reception dinner. I had a strange craving for french fries and the dim sum sign caught my eye. The place is dark and the staff was unpleasant. Our meat was white and looked as if it had been flash cooked. Inedible is an understatement. Will not be back if in the area.

Yelp
Found Chau Chow while on a business trip to the Boston area (Quincy) and needed a very fast lunch spot. Didn't know it was dim sum but that turned out well as it was fast service. My first impression was that it would be authentic as the decor was spartan and it reminded me of some local places where I had eaten in Hong Kong. The floor was not level, the carpet was old, ... Don't go here for the decor, go for the dim sum. Place was mostly empty at noon, maybe 10 other people. They immediately came out with the dim sum cart and we made express selection sticking mostly with shrimp dumpling items and a lobster dumpling plate (yum) along with a sticky rice bowl. We shared three dim sum items and the rice amongst three people and the bill was about $25. We left very satisfied and we spoke of how we'd like to go back on another Boston area visit. I'd certainly go back.

Yelp
When I heard dim sum all day I was excited. Tuesday @ 1. Horrible. No water, one pot of tea for 4 people. $175 later and hands down worst service I've ever had. F this place feo

Yelp
It was late, we were starving, it was snowing, and Chau Chow was 2 blocks away. It was a match made in heaven... We were the only ones in the entire place except for a lone girl drinking alone waiting for her date to show up. Apparently they have a massive boozy drink "that's a thing." We didn't partake but it looked like a stomach ached waiting to happen. There were 4 of us so we just decided to get "the meal for 6." We were a hungry 4...it was a pre-fixe order so we didn't have to think. They brought us a delicious montage of Chinese apps, sides, and mains. I loved their skewered beef, fried rice, and egg rolls. It was all pretty solid, but nothing spectacular. Some of the more sauce-y dishes tasted like carry out but still hit the spot. There are better options in the area but Chau Chow isn't bad if you're in a pinch.

Yelp
I'm only forced to go here for dim sum if my friends and family wants to dine here. The food itself is really good but the service is terrible! Especially the tofu fa lady with short wavy hair! We ordered 4 tofu fa and she put them in a to go fking container! We asked if we could have it in a bowl to eat here? She rushed over yelling at us in Chinese which we didn't understand. The waitress came over and apologize, we ended up eating in the to go plastic container which took the whole experience away. Another occasion we had dim sum with a party 12, I paid and my brother left the tip in cash at the desk and left as we are all heading out. The waitress took my signed receipt and demands her 18% tip! Wow I mean who the fck does that?! I told her my brother tipped at desk already, she still said 18% tip! Not sure if she understood me but I just walked away. I should've made a scene and talk with the manager.. But I didn't This type of behavior is unacceptable! Oh and on another occasion the same tofu fa lady was pushing dim sum carts around and we got some plates. After she gave us our food and stamped she coughed in our faces without covering her mouth! She then saw my husband's unused napkin laying in front of her and conveniently decides to wipe her fingers on it!!! Me and hubby looked at each other in misbelief! I will never willingly come here EVER!!! Disgusting attitude from cart ladies and waitresses

Yelp
Manager Vincent Lee and Chau Chow get ONE STAR. We dined at Chau Chow for a seafood dinner with friends, who are locals and frequently dine here. All the food was covered in a bland, clear-ish sauce. The freshness of the variety of seafood we ordered didn't shine through the lackluster preparation. What really ruined the day was that we ordered a simple, one-item appetizer plate that our friends often order there. We got SCAMMED. When the appetizer plate came out to our table, it was bigger than expected and a had a few extra items on it - like a small amount of pickled vegetables and some fatty ham slices. No one ended up really eating or enjoying the random extra stuff. Guess what we were charged for the appetizer when the bill came out? $50 dollars! Fifty dollars? $50.00 for the appetizer?! This wasn't including the other seafood dishes we ordered. Well, unbeknownst to us this appetizer was the SAME EXACT appetizer they were serving at the wedding (which was also taking place at the restaurant). About 8 tables for regular customers were placed at the front of the restaurant. So they not only served us the OLD LEFTOVERS/extras from the wedding, but they scammed us out of $50. We nicely asked the server to correct the bill, who then asked the manager. VINCENT LEE, the manager, refused to correct the price to the original appetizer we had ordered. We pleaded, but he didn't budge. He was extremely rude, which made it awkward for our friends who dine there often. Sadly, we paid the bill in full in order to get the heck out of there. I probably should have called the police considering how belligerent he became. Vincent would rather deceive us once than maintain a good relationship with customers who visit often. Chau Chow's food and service are some of the worst I've encountered. Don't go here! They don't deserve your business. There are plenty of other Chinese seafood restaurants to visit in the area.

Yelp
We have been a customer of this restaurant for 40 years since they had been in Boston China town. We will never go back to this restaurant again. Today we went for lunch. The owner (lady) forced us unrespectfully to pay a certain amount of tip. She rudely pressed on the charge slip and force us to change the figure on the slip. My husband let her do it because we wanted to get out quickly.

Yelp
Looked for a quick place to get some dim sum before starting the day. I must say that it was ok. It was not busy at all but then again it was most likely because we Cane just before noon on a Monday morning. So there were. So a lot of carts going around. The food was ok and had a lot of your typical dishes. There wasn't any particular one that stood out as awesome or disappointing so that is what is keeping this review so short. Probably wouldn't come back here again and if we did would probably try a weekend when they are more busy.

Yelp
Dim sum here is pretty terrible. Most of their dishes lack in flavor and aren't fresh at all. I would not recommend anyone coming here.

Yelp
Came here because I was in area and craving dim sum but didn't want to trek to Chinatown or Quincy so decided to give here a chance. The place has it's own private parking lot which is convenient as well and was greeted by presumably the owners and seated immediately. The place was about half filled at 11am on a Saturday which is a rare sight at a dim sum restaurant. Since it wasn't terribly busy, the carts came to our table right away! I got hot tea, all the condiments and all the food I wanted within 5 minutes of sitting down. My table wanted a really light breakfast so we got the shu mai, har gow, chicken feet, and beef rice noodle. Everything was decent, but it didn't seem too fresh probably because it's not as hectic as other places so food doesn't circulate as fast. However, it was portioned well with some of the bigger shu mai I've seen! I was really pleased with the service here. There hosts were really nice, acknowledging us as we came in and left. The cart aunties are very prompt with all their carts and a couple of them came to my table asking if they could bring me congee or tofu soup. With so many dim sum places in Chinatown and Quincy, this place probably flies under the radar and I think it's very underrated. I think this place is good for a large group because it's not crowded at all so it can be easily accommodated without knocking elbows with another table. Overall, decent dim sum brunch that was very convenient with good service.

Yelp
Now that I currently live in Kennsaw, GA; this is the first and last restaurant I visit every time I travel to MA to see my mother. My family and I love coming here for dinner or dim sum. We usually stick to the same items when it comes to dinner. We love the pea pod stems sauteed in garlic, clams in a black bean sauce, the fried rice that has everything in it (can't remember the name off the top of my head), fried whole flounder with a ginger soy sauce, and spicy crispy squid. When it comes to the dim sum we try everything. My mom just loves the chicken feet. Just seeing them gross me out but my mom is old school and grew up eating it. Some of the times that we love to get are the pork and shrimp shu mai, shrimp dumplings, rice noodles with shrimp, sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf packages, shrimp crab claws, tripe with ginger, and egg tarts. The one downfall that I've noticed is that the clams in black bean sauce is not the same as the one that comes out during lunch or dinner. I think it is diluted in flavored since they're done in batches. The down side of this place is that during the prime eating hours, you have to fight for parking. Although there is a ton of parking for neighboring businesses, your car can be towed if parked in their area.

Yelp
THE best Lo Mein in the entire city. Sizzling Filet of beef in black pepper sauce could not be any more tender. Chau Chow is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city. The food is consistently amazing. Been going there since it was a small hole in the wall in Chinatown and for years at the current location. When I get Chinese other places it's never as good except for one place in the suburbs.

Yelp
Been coming here since it opened and it's always been dine. The last time I was there it was empty and carts were scarce. Won't be surprised if it closes.

Yelp
I ordered Jumbo Oyster $6 dollars per oyster and when I brought home, only half of them are right. They gave me Jumbo Oyster, but only the shell is right, they replace the meat inside with 2 small oyster meats. I called them back, they told me because the meat of the Jumbo Oyster is small, therefore they replace it with 2 smaller oyster meat. It is ridiculously wrong. How could a big business ethically do something shameful like this. This is my first time in my entire life writing a review because it makes no sense at all. I love their Dim Sum, but after this experience, I do not know what happen behind the kitchen, behind the scene. Minh order Oyster Lon $6 mot con. Chow chow dua Oyster Lon, nhung chi co cai Vo, cai ruot la cua 2 con oyster nho. Lam an that duc.

Yelp
Their foods used to be good but it went down hill in the last couple of years. My family went here for dim sum on new year day and the foods was horrible. They served us cold foods, dirty utensils, and warm tea. Terrible, terrible services. The ladies who push the food cartons around the restaurant constantly bumping into one another at my table. It ridiculous! With so many dim sum restaurants in Dorchester and Quincy now. We don't think we be coming back here ever again.
