15 Gluten-Free, Vegan-Friendly Bakeries in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Open in early 2021 next door to its more traditional sister bakery Chaumont, Chaumont Vegan offers the same French-leaning baked goods, minus eggs, butter, and milk. Find vegan granola, French toast, croissants, a no-milk custard pain Suisse, and a gluten-free hazelnut rose cake, all presented in an arresting pastry window propped above a pink-tiled counter. The shop opened another location on Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica; a Westwood location is coming soon." - Nicole Adlman

Choumont Vegan in Beverly Hills is honestly one of my favorite spots! They have the most amazing croissants – all of them are filled with this super unique oat-based cream that tastes incredible. I’ve never had anything like it before! Everything is vegan and so delicious. I love that they do something new every weekend, like a special pastry or drink – it’s always fun to see what they come up with. The place has a lot of space to sit, super chill vibe, and the staff is really friendly too. Their coffee is amazing, and I’m obsessed with all their signature drinks. Definitely worth checking out if you're into good food and coffee!

Google
Their vegan croissants are Definitely delicious the best in LA, and I think they're even better than the regular croissants next door. Pet friendly tables that i like .

Google
Absolutely spectacular. It was hard to say goodbye to the best vegan food I’ve had in quite a while and the great atmosphere. The matcha croissant was heavenly, filled with a thick cream most vegan croissants can’t pull off. The tofu bowl was so so good, I wish I could pull it off on my own.

Google
The food and service here were so good that I had to go 2 days in a row during my brief stay in LA. The owner Laila was exceptionally hospitable. I recommend that everyone tries this, vegan or not. When you go, order the "egg" croissant, you'll thank me later.

Google
Loved everything we tried and the service was exceptional. They have non vegan options as well which is right next door. Loved the concept. We will definitely be going back.

Google
I appreciate how there is a separate space for the vegan part. I had the olive jalapeno and cheese pastry and it was delicious I would recommend this. The lady serving me was very nice however the matcha I had was probably one of the worst matcha i’ve ever had no offence. Perhaps if it was less grainy and less powder was added I would have preferred it more. Other than that i had a great experience and would definitely return to have one of the sweet pastries.

Google
Very nice vegan food. Really recommend the Ube 🥐 croissant. All the dishes were tried, we enjoyed it very much. The vegan shashuka is very well made and tasted awesome, not just filling the tummy. The dishes are all well made and well decorated pleasing the eye as well as the taste buds. Some of the items we wanted to try are not available as it is past 2PM. You may want to order online and pick it up later to avoid disappointment.

Google
Some of the best vegan pastries I've had. Visited and ate in store, the cinnamon wheel and ube croissant. These were perfectly crisp and flaky having been heated a little before eating. I subsequently got some pastries via delivery on Uber Eats and wasn't able to heat in my hotel - taste was still great but texture was a little soft.
google avatar

Mishawn S.

Yelp
The most delicious vegan croissants around- but all the pastries are delicious! A great go to when you need a great box a pastries for parties or meetings . Non- vegan friends will love them as well.

Yelp
Can you guys NOT make your savory options sweet? What gives?! There's agave on the pepperoni one AND the forest roll has savory cheese (not cream like the guava one) and FRUIT?! Why!!! It's so gross and you guys aren't cheap so I'm wasting my money!! I eat vegan stuff all the time and this is just bizarre. Edit: just got off the phone with Bryan a manager. I gave feedback that the pepperoni roll with agave is strange and doesn't make sense. It's like putting agave on a slice of pepperoni pizza. He even said he wouldn't want that on his pizza. He said they do that because "people can't take the "heat" of the pepper jack cheese.." THIS IS THE WEIRDEST THING ITS NOT EVEN SPICY. AT ALL. Like I feel like I'm being gaslit. I know I'm not the only one that thinks this is odd! You guys need to have an option where it can be ordered without it!!!! Savory should just be savory!! I took a photo of the sign but as you can see the guava and quince part is cut off and I didn't read the whole thing cause I figured it was only savory ingredients and I was in a hurry. Just please..

Yelp
Found the ambiance nice and cozy but the food is overpriced (is it due to location?). The croissants I ordered were cold, greasy, and again, overpriced ($11). Service was alright. I would not return here simply for the price and underwhelming pastries. There are many vegan locations here that offer better options with fair prices

Brayan T.

Yelp
Currently obsessed with their pastries! I cannot believe everything is vegan! Lots of great sweet and savory options. I would recommend the almond croissant, guava cream cheese pocket and chocolate croissant! Great location and prices are surprisingly cheap for the area! I cannot get enough
google avatar

Parinita S.

Yelp
I haven't had a chocolate croissant in years!! Thank you so much for veganizing so many varieties of croissants. It was flakey and delicious just like how I remember it. There was only one person working behind the counter but they were very friendly even though they were quite busy. I wish there was one closer to me so I could eat more croissants.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best bakery I've ever been to! Everything is delicious. Their matcha latte is decent but there's better matcha around the area. I really love that they have matcha pastries. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Lola M.

Yelp
Okay, to be honest, I haven't gone to the bakery myself. However, I have eaten a few of their vegan baked goods and they are amazing!!! I had the matcha croissant and the ube croissant which were both incredible considering they're vegan! I think anyone would love them. The lamination of the pastry is beautiful and flaky. The very creamy fillings are not too sweet, just subtle and blends perfectly with the croissant. So crazy good!! I also tasted the almond butter pear tart that was delightful. I'm really looking forward to going for lunch sometime soon. But in the meantime, I must admit I'm pretty excited about this place based on their pastries!!!
google avatar

Carissa B.

Yelp
Amazing!! The pastries here are so delicious, that even my non-vegan family wants to come with me! My favorites are the apricot twist and almond croissant, but everything is great. Beware they do sell out and close early, especially on the weekend. I prefer the Beverly Hills location over the Santa Monica location for it's aesthetic and more central location. Everyone, please continue to support this vegan gem!

Yelp
I ordered ahead of time for an event I was having. Chaumont always had the food ready for pick up and ordering online made things incredibly easy. All of the food we ordered was absolutely delicious and everyone that attended was so excited to see the food from this bakery. The food was absolutely beautiful. I forgot to get pictures of their avocado toast and omelets because they were eaten up so quickly. lol Thank you Chaumont for delicious food and great service!
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
Large assortment of sweet and savory croissants and baked treats. Some of the croissants are stuffed with custard and so good! Service is always friendly and the vibes are so cute! Parking: metered street parking or can park in one of those parking garages and walk

Rick R.

Yelp
Not sure what they do for their vegan croissants but they are amazing. Better than traditional butter ones and so filling. My fav vegan ones are rose, chocolate almond with the crackling on top. Service continues to be top notch. Place is small but they have outside seating. Thank you for vegan options.

Yelp
Chaumont Vegan is just south of Beverly Hills proper offering numerous French vegan pastries. Look at the ingredients of the restaurant--food, drinks, and vibes. It's where a good pastry chef and good dough collide, like comets in the sky. Best bakery in the galaxy, where everything is NEVER not vegan!! I ordered the rose water croissant and to my surprise it had filling...transcendent. A pink filling oozed out that was light and bold in its own way. Soft yet flaky crust. It was wickedly delightful. It reminded me of a beautiful song that I once had memorized or like a museum piece with its unparalleled elegance. You'll want one too and it's all in a picture perfect space! You must get one or three of these and nothing in between. Next time I have my eyes on the jalapeño cheese croissant, blackberry jam pastry, fig pastry, earl gray croissant, and the strawberry croissant. Who am I kidding, I would like to try them all. I would even get the Rose water croissant again. Life is too short to not eat something sexy. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get the croissant and have a great day! We only part to meet again. "To romanticize the world is to make us aware of the magic, mystery, and wonder of the world; it is to educate the senses to see the ordinary as extraordinary." Tips: Street parking

Yelp
Got some breakfast from this vegan version of this popular Beverly Hills bakery. It happens to be located next to the original. Chaumont basically shares these spaces and is the same place pretty much with similar items. Outside it has the same patio. The prices are pretty okay for around here truthfully. A place we wanted to come to for breakfast. It's a small place but surprisingly it wasn't that crowded. This is located close to Beverly and Wilshire. Came in and looked at the stuff in the case. Lots of choices including croissants and muffins. It's about $6 for the Matcha Latte. Thick and full of flavor, good stuff. It's about $16 for the omelets. The Feta Omelet could fool someone for the real thing. It comes with a piece of bread. The omelet has avocados, dill, vegan feta, onions, tomatoes, and za'atar. More filling than it appears. This certainly makes for a hearty morning. Has a lot to choose from. It's open for breakfast and lunch. The menu is totally okay for vegans and vegetarians.

Yelp
The pastries are good, as is the coffee. I went to the regular Chaumont next door and ordered thinking it was vegan, and only realized upon leaving that it's not. I told the cashier in the vegan one this and she didn't really care, which sure whatever! Weird concept to have two different places. Didn't love that. Try harder!

Yelp
I returned to Chaumont Vegan on Monday for the first time in a year. I found myself 2 blocks away again at the Rodeo Screening Room. This time, I knew to call in the morning to reserve croissants so I had rosewater and pistachio put aside. They were waiting for me when I walked over just after noon. Customer service was excellent again. Two croissants were $12.50 so a bit pricey. This time , I sampled them earlier so they were not stale yet. I liked the rosewater and would buy it again. I did not care for the pistachio at all. It tasted like soap. I couldn't eat the filling, the flavor was so unpleasant . I'll stick to the almond, chocolate, and rosewater in the future.

Yelp
Chaumont Vegan is a little French bakery located in South Beverly Hills. It's a cute little shop located next door to its non-vegan namesake and counterpart. There is metered parking on the street and tons of walkable shops around. It is only open for breakfast and lunch (6:30am to 3pm). Inside is a small curated selection of goodies. All the desserts here would pair well with coffee or tea which they also sell. They are most famous for their croissants. The strawberry and earl gray croissants looked beautiful. I loved how some of the pastries were presented on grandmillenial china in the display. We ordered an olive pizza and the olive oil cake. The olive pizza was more of a croissant pizza than a regular pizza. It was a light snack and more fluffy than crunchy. It was pretty small for $6 price point but it was the only savory item I found that I could take to-go and I am happy I tried it. The olive oil cake was wonderful! It was super moist which I think is a really important component when it comes to vegan pastry. The frosting was melt in your mouth tasty and had just the right amount of sweetness. It was a very light dessert. It was also quite beautiful to look at with the light green frosting and pretty flower on top. Most importantly, you would never think this was a "vegan" dessert if they didn't tell you. I would definitely order this one again. There is seating inside the restaurant but today was a beautiful summer day and everyone was sitting outside on the sidewalk under the table umbrellas. It's more like Paris that way anyways!
google avatar

Pilar L.

Yelp
Don't get the $17 fruit and yogurt parfait unless you enjoy visibly rotten fruit. The quality has progressively gone down over time and now this is what it is. Shame on you folks. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Yelp
Arrive early; these goodies vanish quicker than a magician's rabbit! And trust me, it's for a reason--they're so delicious, you'd think they're performing magic in the bakery. Even if you're on Team "I don't like vegan food," fear not! These treats taste just like the real deal, giving the non-vegan options next door a run for their money. And guess what? If you're a die-hard butter fan, it's just a hop, skip, and a jump away at Chaumont next door. The team is as friendly as your favorite neighbor, and the place is adorned with more fresh flowers than a botanist's daydream. But let's get real--you're there for the carb-loaded wonders! I went for the jalapeño cheese tart (spoiler: not real cheese), feeling all savory, and oh boy, what a choice! It was more perfect than a cat meme on the internet. Time to indulge in impeccable carbs and make your taste buds do a happy dance!

Yelp
I love vegan pastries & Chaumont Vegan hits the spot every time! The ube croissants are far superior to other ube products I have encountered. The ube filling is so light & not overly sweet & is sooooo good! The strawberry croissant was also extremely good. Service is always friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to my return!

Pam R.

Yelp
Had a medical rep send us croissants from this bakery because we have a vegan staff member and they were amazing! They were delivered in the morning very fresh and not greasy at all. The best flavors were Matcha and Chocolate. Would definitely order from here again.
google avatar

Adrian C.

Yelp
The caramel skinned doll face blue-eyed pressed curl cashier in the black chiffon, was memorable and appreciated for redirecting me to the vegan side of this charming, vintage glass marble lavender spray hypnotic journey into Nirvana! The jalapeño olive cheese tzatziki rose could've used a little more browning in the oven, and the warmer had little or no effect on it, but it was like a portal into another dimension of enlightenment!

Yelp
This review is for Mariana the lady working that morning, she was busy making coffee but very friendly and she helped us to decided about the delicious pastries. good flavors and delicious breakfast. Thank u

Mariela K.

Yelp
Extremely underwhelming. Not recommend. Best vegan spots are definitely not on Beverly Dr.

Yelp
My guilty pleasure and one of the Beverly Hills loves of my life... I love visiting this adorable patisserie when I can on the weekends! It's so beautiful and floral, the workers there are nice, but the PASTRIES. I am obsessed with their danishes, though I love everything I've tried thus far. Inevitably I always walk our with a full box!
google avatar

Ally B.

Yelp
Oh my gosh - the bakery treats, savory to sweet is to die for. The savory croissants, or chocolate croissant is my fave and the jalapeño cheese! Lots that it's vegan and you would have no idea. It's beautiful inside, always clean and not long of a wait either! Close to a lot of street parking typically as well. New coffee was just added to the menu! Try it while it's new and in the works!
google avatar

Michele M.

Yelp
Omg French pastry heaven! My faves are ham and cheese, earl grey, matcha croissants but I've liked everything there. Delicious whether you are vegan or not!
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
Friendly, great service and delicious food. Seating outside in the shade or the sunshine. The owner is French and I love that he's created a vegan and a regular pastry. I'm having the vegan egg and cheese sandwich as well as croissants. I will update you soon by the way, it's not that hard to find parking, which is another plus.

Yelp
By far one of the best vegan pastries I've ever tasted! This place is definitely a hidden gem that so many people need to know about. I found out about this location by searching on Postmates for vegan food. I was hesitant with trying it out because the delivery fee was a little on the higher end even with a Postmates membership. I definitely didn't know what to expect when I made my purchase. I got the ham and cheese croissant and the strawberry jam croissant. I initially wanted the guava croissant but they were out. I'm so glad I ordered what I ordered because the croissants were the absolute best I ever had! The croissants are buttery, flaky and soft. I ordered from Postmates on a Thursday and I drove to the restaurant the next day and on Saturday. That's how good this place is. I'm glad I went to the location because it gave me the opportunity to take photos of all the beautiful and tasty items they sell. I think I will try the charcoal croissant on my next visit (which might be today lol). I never heard of a charcoal croissant! The image might not be too appealing but considering what I've already tried so far I think it just might taste absolutely delicious. I also ordered a matcha latte with coconut milk. I didn't add any sweetener at all. The drink tasted amazing! The location is beautiful! There's no inside seating just outside but the scenery is nice. You're sitting outside in Beverly Hills so that's a plus. The customer service was good also. This is definitely my go to restaurant for all things vegan. I highly recommend this place. It's definitely a hidden gem.
google avatar

Lucy B.

Yelp
Food was delicious! There was nothing I didn't like about my feta omelette and of course I had to try a chocolate croissant. Had an iced chai latte that was so good. My husband went next door and got a regular egg omelette with beef bacon that he raved about. The service was a little slow but the staff was light for a Sat brunch crowd and it was worth the wait. The inside was nice and felt good with some much needed AC still we opted to sit outside. I'd love to get back there if I find myself in Beverly Hills again.
google avatar

Gisselle G.

Yelp
Finger lickin gooddd. My friends and I always order so much from here. They're always switching up their flavors so we're always anticipating what's next. Everything I've tried from here has been amazing. There are tables outside that are great to sit at and enjoy pastries with some coffee.
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
I love this place!! I'm so happy to have so many tasty and beautiful options! It's so impressive! If you haven't been here, you need to!! Every croissant I've had has been delicious! The avocado toast is fabulous as well!!
google avatar

sally f.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I am obsessed with the egg and cheese croissant. Their lattes are yummy too. I've tried a few others, like the ham & cheese and the pain suisse. All really good. It is a bit pricey. The others aren't terribly expensive but the egg & cheese croissant is outrageous. I only buy when I have a discount. And always excited when I do!
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Everything was excellent. Everything was so fresh, the items with fruit were moist without being soggy.
google avatar

Susan O.

Yelp
I am obsessed. I'm literally driving my husband crazy with my almost daily need to jump in the car to get a vegan croissant and vegan feta omelet. This was the first meal I requested after I was released from the hospital and the need will not wane. We are actually moving to Beverly Hills in part because of the croissants. Vegans understand this. Go. Whether vegan or not.
google avatar

Sofya P.

Yelp
The croissants are delicious. Must try! Highly recommend the earl grey one especially.
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
Best vegan bakery ever. Coffee is excellent also. Can't go wrong with anything they sell
google avatar

Molly E.

Yelp
I've never been overly enthused about croissants but I am forever changed I tried the Ube croissant, pistachio croissant, raspberry olive oil cake, blackberry jam pastry, and chocolate vanilla bean pastry. Absolutely everything blew my mind! The chocolate vanilla bean pastry was my favorite, followed by the pistachio croissant but it's honestly hard to rank them because they all were outstanding. The flavors and textures were PERFECTION. They just opened a second location in Santa Monica and I sure hope they continue to open more locations and head to Orange County My only critique is that none of the items are labeled with what it is or the cost. It makes for slower checkout because you can only find out what things are when someone is helping you. I also like to know the prices so I can see how many items I can afford. I wish I could try them all!
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
The fluffiest vegan croissants! The vegan ham and cheese was delicious. I also tried the chocolate croissant. I was surprised by the amount of chocolate that was in the filling. Will return to try more!
google avatar

Gianna S.

Yelp
best vegan desserts. so delicious i went to thsi place every morning for a week. LOVE the ham and cheese croissant. don't sleep on this place for vegan options. nice staff. nice vibe.
google avatar

Lexi A.

Yelp
Wow wow!! I was blown away by the high quality of their food. I was waiting at the dealer's for a check-up. I ordered the strawberry croissant and the hot chocolate. As a long time vegan, I was not expecting such an incredible hot chocolate and croissant.. The croissant was delivered in a special box, and had a gold leaf on it. Absolutely delicious. There is no way a vegan café in France can outdo Chaumont. Another bonus: The staff on the phone were so kind and polite. Thank you Chaumont.

Mary J.

Yelp
They need more people working. There's no reason 1 person should be serving so many people. Then rude customers are there saying to her "ARE YOU MAKING MY DRINK". I'm not sure why they treat their employees like this. And then they've got croissants that people can touch from the outside. Come on now.
google avatar

Arlene N.

Yelp
Vegan French pastries!?? Yes please! so many wonderful pastries, all vegan, to choose from. I came for a visit when they were about to close ( my fault) so there weren't many options to choose from. It's best to come early to have more options before it's sold out for the day. These were so tasty and I will definitely be coming back earlier in the day next time to try more.
google avatar

Amira S.

Yelp
Best croissants I've ever had. I've tried both the savory and sweet croissants and was wowed across the board. The drinks are also delicious, I had a lavender matcha latte that hit the spot (and I'm not usually big on adding lavender to matcha, but they did it so well!). Employees are friendly and helpful. I appreciate that they have both indoor and outdoor seating, too.
google avatar

Paige M.

Yelp
Wow amazing & gorgeous pastries!! The jalapeño cheese croissant is rockin' (get it toasted!) as well as the rectangular chocolate croissant bar. Those two disappeared in the car & didn't even make it home, hehe yummmmy... I also ordered the matcha croissant (very lovely w the flower on top) and the guava & cheese croissant. I planned to save the two of these for the morning after and shame on me I should have refrigerated them because the next morning they were rotten and kind of smelly. (I was so excited to eat the cute, purple flower but it had completely molded wahhh!) It was my first time there & the woman at the register was very kind, patient and made decent recommendations. I'm not a big cheese and fruit gal & took a big risk with the guava and cheese..I wouldn't recommend it, but that's just me. I would love to give this place another shot, just lesson learned: eat the pastries the day you purchase them! There was construction blocking the main road & I found the last metered parking space, so that was a nice plus :)
google avatar

Jordana J.

Yelp
Wow. The best pastries I have tried in years. They definitely have their crust technique on point! Cream filling was also tasty and the flavor combinations were great. I will say they looked a little sad and dry in person compared to pictures. Also, the cashier just boxed my items when I wanted to eat at the establishment. I felt a little uncomfortable staying after that. Bathrooms were pretty dirty. They had just mopped and the liquid was left in the sink. I drained it before washing my hands so all was good. However, still 5 stars because pastries were that good.Hopefully next time I go I can have a slightly better experience.

Natalie L.

Yelp
The place I miss most after moving out of LA. Amazing vegan pastries for my dairy issues/lactose intolerance.
google avatar

Kara F.

Yelp
I have tried many vegan pastries & thought this place was probably just overhyped because how good could a croissant really be? I can confidently say Chaumont Vegan deserves every bit of praise it gets! I am not exaggerating when I say it is the BEST croissant I have ever had in my life. I came at about 1pm on a Saturday and most of the baked goods were gone, but we grabbed what was left and it did not disappoint! It was actually so good that I went back in and got 3 more plain croissants to go (which saved & tasted great the next day warmed up!) They are buttery, flaky, and overall perfect. My matcha latte was also great! Can't wait to go back & try more!
google avatar

Tracy K.

Yelp
I dined in for the first time last week. Other than ordering their delicious pastries for to go including their specials of the week: Black Sesame Orange, and Cream Cheese Pear, I dined in to eat their vegan egg and cheese croissant. It also came with a salad with dressing on the side. I don't know what cheese they used but it melted so well with the JUSTegg. It tasted so delicious. I savored every bite. If you come after 11:30am like I did, they were already almost out of their special of the week and will mainly have the usuals like plain, almond, and chocolate croissants. I love that their croissants are so flaky and crunchy even until the next day. The service is slow for dine in, but their staff are always great!
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
Super friendly service, beautiful interiors and fresh delicious pastries and croissants! What more could a vegan want?! We landed at 2pm on a Sunday and most things were already sold out - still managed to snag a few goodies. Will be back early morning next time ;)
